The graphic novel is an insanely versatile form that incorporates image, voice, and storytelling. It seems kind of unprecedented, as a form of literature, for that reason. There have been some really interesting critics who have written about the form - I'm thinking right now of Harvey Pekar and Bob Levin - and these critics have helped us think about the difference between the critic and scholar, as well as stereotypes about each (which Pekar and Levin seem interested in their own ways of fighting).
