Bob Dylan is the most important artist of the 20th century, and he also belongs in the company of Sigmund Freud, Harold Bloom, Franz Kafka, Paul Celan, and Gershom Scholem as a Jewish artist who helps us understand the Shoah through the non-conceptual nature of his music and its commitments to feeling more than thought. In this podcast we talk about Dylan's contribution to American and Jewish culture, primarily through performance, which is a form or oral Torah, and which I think is the main thing he leaves behind, a kind of ungraspable ephemerality, like the nature of melody.
