Judy Roberson chats to Cape Town singer/songwriter, Mel Malisch, on the SA & Indie Music Zone.
Mel Malisch, a local Kommetjie singer songwriter, has just broken into the live original music scene in the Valley and beyond and is settling in to her new happy space. She has already been spotted and hosted by the respected Barleycorn Music Club, as well as False Bay Folk and her popularity is growing by the minute.
Café Roux have been quick to book her for September, based on the word-of- mouth from her first performances and the content of her songs. And she will be back there in October for a special fundraiser for Masiphumele.
Although her song-writing originates from loss and grief, the songs are foot-tapping, infectious melodies about life, love and gratitude!
She has recently released three singles through streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube, with two more on the way.
Her hope is to produce an album.
Trained in classical piano but performing on her acoustic guitar, her music can be described as modern-folk with an element of storytelling.
Her lyrics offer fresh insights, and there is something personal about her song writing that resonates, for those who listen.
