Baron von Steuben was a Prussian Baron who came to the US to help train the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
He was smart. He was brave. He was charismatic.  He was so instrumental in helping the Continental Army win the Revolutionary War that there's a statue of him in Lafayette Square in Washington, DC. He was also openly gay in the 1700s.
