As you can tell, this message is about faith - trust, dependence upon God. God’s Word has a lot to say about faith. It speaks of: 1)Great faith and little faith, and of some who had no faith. 2)Healing faith and saving faith, and faith “as the grain of a mustard seed.” 3)The righteousness of faith and sanctifying faith, and the obedience of faith. 4)It talks about strong faith and weak faith. I could go on, but this morning I want to share some thoughts about a mother’s faith. And II Corinthians 5:7 reminds us, “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) . . . ” Hebrews 11:23 tells us that it was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him 3 months, “not fearing the king’s commandment.” Recall what has happened in Exodus 1. Exodus 1:8: “Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.” This king was, apparently, quite paranoid because he said in vv. 9-11: “And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: (10) Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. (11) Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.” The Israelites were simply dwelling in the place they had been given in Egypt, and God was blessing them. In fact vv. 12-14 tell us: “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. (13) And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour: (14) And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage . . . " Finally, the king gave an edict - vs. 22: “And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.” This is simple genocide, for without males there would be no continuation of the Israelites. This is what Satan has attempted and even attempts today. This brings us to the faith of a child’s mother, the faith of Moses’ mother, Jochebed. Hebrews 11:23 says, “By faith Moses . . . was hid three months of his parents . . . ” It was because of the faith in God of Amram and Jochebed that Moses’ life was spared (“they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.”) but there were some challenges to Jochebed’s faith.
