Portly is missing!  He is only a little chap and has been missing for some days.  Has he drowned?  Is he lost?  Or has some other terrible thing happened to him?  Ratty and Mole are determined to find him and search up and down the riverbank throughout the night.  And then, in the distance, as dawn is breaking, a piper sounds.  What could it mean?
