There is a clear distinction between the types of mobile applications that can be developed. On one hand is the Native App which is built solely for a single device, available on a specific app store (either Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store), and leverages the device features to optimize functionality. The other side of the coin is a Web App that isn’t really an app, but a website that runs by a browser and has an “install” button to bookmark a page to the home screen.
Pertaining to business needs, these extreme solutions had their own limitations in serving the companies to achieve their missions. While one is restricted in its device compatibility, the other cannot utilize the in-built device features to operate. Thus, the concept of an intermediary hybrid or cross-platform app has been developed to combine the benefits of the two and help businesses reach greater audiences.
