The Irish Potato Famine was one of the greatest events of mass starvation in the Modern age. Not only did over 1 million people die as a result of starvation, but Irelands population was irrevocably changed with nearly 25% of the population dying, or emigrating to other countries. England showcased their colonial might, and refused to help the Irish, a people that they would have been happier without.
