Roger Ebert posits that Robert Bresson’s Pickpocket is an adaptation of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, though in all honesty if that were the intention the stakes here are low enough that it feels like a parody. I present a half-cooked Marxist interpretation (which I let simmer a bit more for the post at the main site). And Pat gets hung up about the clear sexual deviancy aspects. All in all it’s a lively conversation on the best film where the main character thinks he’s so much better than everyone that he deserves to steal their stuff.
