The rail union is calling the ban slapped on Te Huia an "unjustified reaction". The Hamilton to Auckland train service has been banned from the Auckland metro area, because of two incidents of running red light signals. Waka Kotahi says the train must be fitted with the European Train Control system before it can be allowed back into the suburban passenger network. Kiwirail says it would take up to two years to design, install and test the system. Rail and Maritime Transport Union General Secretary Todd Valster spoke to Susana Leiátaua.
