Too often we fall to the illusion that our modern trappings put us beyond the reach of catastrophe... 

Because we're so caught up in modern trappings, we miss seeing how closely our times resemble those of the past.

There are some signs that dread awaits in 2014. Or, at the very least, more extreme government measures to mask the reality of how unstable things really are.

A couple examples before the show that bear some analysis;

Was Presidnet Obama's "symbolic" sign-up a boost for Obamacare? Or just a splash of white-wash on an Obamacare system that looks more and more like something only fitting for a Potemkin village?

And right through Christmas Eve, retailers reported sluggish sales compared to last year. More sluggishness to come in 2014?
