We continue with Az Yashir, winding down last few pesukim. תְּבִאֵ֗מוֹ וְתִטָּעֵ֙מוֹ֙ בְּהַ֣ר נַחֲלָֽתְךָ֔ / You shall bring them and you shall plant them on the mountain of your heritage (the mountain of the Bet Hamikdash). מָכ֧וֹן לְשִׁבְתְּךָ֛ פָּעַ֖לְתָּ ה׳ / You created a foundation for Your dwelling place. מִקְּדָ֕שׁ אֲדֹנָ֖י כּוֹנְנ֥וּ יָדֶֽיך׃ /the Bet Hamikdash that Your hands established. So Hashem made Bet Hamikdash down here, which corresponds to the Bet Hamikdash in Shamayim. So what they were saying is that we're not just going to be brought into the land, but planted in the land. Furthermore, that God made a Bet Hamikdash down here to correspond to the Bet Hamikdash upstairs. That means when you walked into the Bet Hamikdash, you felt that the spot of connection. When you were in the Bet Hamikdash, you felt that this world was only temporary. You felt a connection to the next world. That's why the Mishna (Masechet Avot) says that when the heretics stopped believing in the next world, a Beracha in Bet Hamikdash was slightly tweaked to include the words, “ Min HaOlam V’Ad HaOlam/ from this world to the next world. ” Because the job of the Bet Hamikdash was that when they walked in, they felt that they were in the embassy of God. They felt the spirituality that corresponds to the Bet Hamikdash above. Why was this something they sang at the splitting of the sea? One explanation is, as we said previously (when we discussed Zeh Eli VAnvehu ), that the Jewish people wanted to keep this connection. But furthermore, Rav Wolbe explains that the main point of Az Yashir is that the Jewish people realized that (in his words) Ruchaniut is a Metziut/spirituality is a reality. That's a nice rhyme. Spirituality is a reality. People tend to think that spirituality is some metaphysical, heebie-jeebie intangible. But Rav Wolbe says that compared to spirituality, physicality is less real. Spirituality is real . Spirituality lasts forever. A table and chairs are not as real as an angel is. We just can’t see it. At the splitting of the sea, they saw, /נשפץ ברוחך You blew with the breath of You nostrils, they saw God's spirit split the sea. God's spirit took down the enemy. That's why they sang this. A Jewish person's job on this world is to realize that Ruchaniut is a reality. God’s spirituality is the only thing that really lasts. Rav Wolbe once said that when we look at a table, we say, “ Wow, a table is solid. ” But what is the table made out of? It's made out of atoms. What are the atoms made out of? Electrons, protons, neurons. And they're all in an orbit around the gaseous space that's in the middle. So everything is really gas. Gas is spiritual. So everything, really deep down, is a spiritual creation. And although we look at spirituality as some fleeting, intangible reality, it's the most real. And when we walked into the Bet Hamikdash, we had that sense of how real it is to be connected to Ruchaniut . And that, as we said,is our job on earth. We are here in a Prosdor/corridor . We're in a temporary existence in this world, trying to get to the next world. The next world is the real world. That's the world that we don't see. That's the world that we don't sense with our bodies. It's the world where the soul alone is going to enjoy. It's something that we can't fathom in this world, but it’s something that the Jewish people experienced at Keriat Yam Suf and it’s something that they experience when they walked in the Bet Hamikdash. They realized that the Bet Hamikdash down here is connected to the Bet Hamikdash above. This world is a Prosdor/ corridor t o get to the main banquet hall, which is the next world and the future. That's important in our overall outlook on life. This world, as real and as solid as it looks, is really a temporary, transient world. The real everlasting world is the world to come. This is something that we speak about, every single day, in our Az Yashir prayers. Have a wonderful day.
