We're now in the 8th pasuk of Zichronot, a pasuk in Yehezkiel 16,60 וְזָכַרְתִּ֨י אֲנִ֧י אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֛י אוֹתָ֖ךְ בִּימֵ֣י נְעוּרָ֑יִךְ וַהֲקִימוֹתִ֥י לָ֖ךְ בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם׃ / I'll remember the covenant that I had with you in the days of your youth. And therefore, I will set up for you an everlasting covenant. What exactly are these two covenants ? The Radak explains that the days of our youth refers to the deal of Har Sinai . We made a deal with God and although we didn't really keep our side of the deal, God is going to reenact it in the future, in an everlasting Brit . The Malbim on this pasuk says that this everlasting Brit refers to a Brit in Yirmiyah 31,30: " Behold, there are days coming when I will make a deal with the Jewish people, a Brit Hadasha/new deal. Not like the deal that I made with your forefathers, when I took them out of Egypt, and they broke that deal. In this one, says Hashem , "The Torah will enter their being, And I'll write it on their hearts , and I will be a God and they will be My nation. And no longer will we have to teach people Torah. No one will have to say, "Know God," because everyone will know Me. That is the final covenant , where the words of the Torah will enter our hearts. Malbim says, due to the exiles and the difficulties we went through and the wonders that we're going to see, it's going to cause the Torah to be etched in our hearts. What does that mean? The Yetzer Hara will no longer control us, because we will no longer have any doubts about Hashem's supervision over us and His constant cleaving to us. We don't realize how connected to us God is. But once we have the Torah in our hearts and realize how close God is, there will be no place for sin at all. That's the deal of the future that we're hoping for. So we're asking God to remember the deal of the past and the deal of the future. The Sefer Pachad Yitzhak on Purim topic 7, says that the Torah is going to be the same Torah. Nothing change except the parchment. The parchment of the Torah now is cow skin. In the future, the Torah's parchment is going to be our heart itself. This future, says the Ramban, is referred to in Devarim 30,6, where Hashem says, God will circumcise your heart. And it refers to this future covenant that Yirmiyah mentions. That's the circumcision of our heart. And as we've mentioned many a time, א ת ל בבך ו את ל בב Your heart and the heart of your children spells אלול / Elul . During the month of Elul, our rabbis tell us there is a certain level (not the full level of the future, but a certain level) of the circumcision of our hearts. Which means that during the month of Elul, the words of Torah become etched in our hearts. What prevents the words of Torah entering our hearts is that we need a milah . We have an Orlat Hal ev/a foreskin on our heart that blocks the words of Torah from entering our hearts. This is what we call Timtum Halev . The clogging of the heart. And the Gemara in Masechet Shona 39a says תנא דבי רבי ישמעאל עבירה מטמטמת לבו של אדם שנאמר ולא תטמאו בהם ונטמתם בם אל תקרי ונטמאתם אלא ונטמטם / Where the Torah says, Do not contaminate yourselves with them, we should not read it as " contaminated," but rather, " you will become clogged ." On this, the Tanna Devei R. Yishmael says that sins cause our hearts to be clogged. What does that mean? It's like spiritually clogged arteries. Rashi says אוטמת וסותמת מכל חכמה: / It seals and it clogs from all wisdom. That means wisdom does not enter our hearts and this is caused by the foreskin of our hearts. But in the future, God is going to say, I'm going to do a BritMilah/ I'm going to remove the foreskin, and the words of Torah will enter your heart. The reason we sin is because the words of Torah are not in our hearts. That's why we broke the deal. God gave us the Torah, but it was on the parchment, not on our hearts. The Ramchal, in his sefer Derech Etz Chaim, writes that knowledge of truth strengthens our Nishama and distances us from the Yetzer Hara for sure. There is nothing that weakens the soul in front of the Yetzer more than a lack of knowledge. And he says, If the knowledge would be wide and would be on a person's heart, they would never sin . The Yetzer Hara wouldn't be close to them or control them, just like it does not control angels. The problem is that the wisdom doesn't enter us. This is the Brit Olam that we're waiting for; when God will take the Torah of Har Sinai from the parchment and put it in our hearts.
