Life throws you curve balls compelling you to adapt, pivot, make changes and navigate your way through the transitions you face. Miriam, that’s me!! Well there’s been quite a few seasons in my life and quite some transitions. Today I share some of these. 🎧💥Be Inspired...Be Encouraged💥🎧 I am a mother of 5 adult children. Yes, they survived my mothering and made it through!! Quite honestly there were times I wondered if they or I would make it. The transition into motherhood was a fulfilling journey for me but also one I had to make many adaptations in. Flexibility became my second name and nature, but I didn’t find it easy. I LOOOVE to be comfortable. To be certain. To make a plan and see it come to fruition. I couldn’t tell you how many plans were tossed out the window and I had to find a way to navigate my way through the change one way or another. Some went okay others had me totally falling apart and got very messy. Then there has been the transition out of motherhood into life with adult children. That’s been a huge transition for me too after 30 years of being the influencer in these lives to becoming an observer as they move on into their season of adulthood. Right now, I’m sensing a new transition in my life. What it means for me is I’m going to take a break for a few weeks or months (however long it takes) from producing The Beautiful YOU Podcast☺️ I’ll definitely be back though because this is my heart and passion to share the stories of women who have faced their life challenges, pains and disappointments and transitioned from the grub in the cocoon to the beautiful butterfly flying free. These stories inspire me, and I know others too who have shared their gratitude for the inspiration they receive from them. Broken, trapped and left for dead Azelene escapes a violent relationship. An Indigenous woman, Petrina Neufeld’s health issues started spiralling around forty years of age and deteriorating health was what she expected would be her lot in life would be too. Hear her story and how she has found hope and health on her journey. 🎧💥💥🎧 Life expectancy for an indigenous person is often shorter by 20 years. Petrina’s health issues at 40 led her to believe it would be her lot in life too. However, the life she was living was so compromised that she cried out for answers, to the heavens, to anywhere that would listen. Petrina was living on high doses of medication with side effects that added to her poor health. A friend gifted her a natural, medication free path to try. She likens her transformation to being born again, literally!! Susan discovers a well-kept secret after the death of her husband. Cancer survivor - at 38 years of age Stefanie Crockett was diagnosed with breast cancer. A four year old son and both their futures to fight for she found a way to overcome. 🎧💥💥🎧 Facing a battle for her life with stage 3 breast cancer, Stefanie finds a way through her battle. Stefanie is a fitness gym owner and instructor. Lack of exercise was not the reason. She is a nutritionist and ate what she thought was healthy and well. There was no breast cancer in her family line so she wanted to find out WHY had this disease struck her. Her search has resulted in her being in remission for 5 years now. And she has built courses and instructs people in how to maintain optimal health both online and offline. Her clients are ditching their medications for diabetes, heart issues and other health problems. The journey of addiction with a loved one takes surrounding yourself with people going through a similar thing to you. 🎧💥Be Inspired...Be Encouraged💥🎧 My Beautiful YOU guest this week is Kaz Harrison. Kaz lives in Whyalla, a mining town in South Australia. She found herself sitting on her red couch, in her shop encouraging and supporting women who came into her shop whose children were struggling with drug addiction. She had a secret though. Her daughter was also a drug addict, but she was so embarrassed she didn’t tell them at the time. When her own health started to suffer badly from stress and anxiety, she visited her doctor who gave her the number of a mental health nurse. Reaching out to the nurse was a catalyst for transformational change not just for Kaz but since then, for many families on the same journey with a loved one’s addiction. The support group RIPPLES was formed and along came the women she had listened to and encouraged on her red couch. They were all surprised to find they had a common need and the support group has blossomed and grown since its inception a few years ago. From experience Kaz has found that reaching out to someone who is going through the same thing as you will offers you support, advice and information to help on a journey with a loved one’s addiction. Her sister could no longer look after her youngest son, seven years of age at the time. Government agencies approached the family to say Ashton would be put into foster care if there was no one in the family willing to care for him. The decision was made by Rhea to adopt Ashton and she became his legal guardian. Such a remarkable and selfless decision to make at 27 years of age!! Ashton’s life had been far from normal. The dysfunction he had been living under had taken its toll on him in many ways, especially emotionally. Coming out of that environment into a stable, supportive place took some time for him to adjust to. Rhea had moved into her new home she had just built and both Rhea and the home took some battering!! Situations such as Ashton’s are becoming more prevalent with grand-parents, aunties, uncles and siblings having to care for children and family members that are unable to manage and cope with the care themselves. Her farm and family ‘s love of music influenced her as a child and becoming a musician, singer/song writer evolved from these influences. Earlier in 2019, Delilah won the Best Group award at the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival and was nominated for a WAM award. A great honour and achievement for this little ole farm gal! She was well rewarded for the years of uncertainty about what she should do with herself and her gift of music. Finding her way through the confusion she felt about her purpose and future she is now pursuing her music and has produced two Eps and a music video; one with her country band “Delilah Rose and the Gunslingers” and the other with her alt-folk trio called “The Holy Smoke”. She is dreaming of her next project for 2020 and beyond! Becoming a mother of a cute little boy didn’t stop her pursuing the call she felt within to her music. She is expecting her second child later this year. Delilah Rose has found music to be a way to process some of the pain and grief in life and after losing her father suddenly, wrote a very touching rendition of her journey back to her family farm knowing her father wouldn’t be there. By hiding herself emotionally, she was saved from the physical abuse. However, shutting down her emotions resulted in a physical condition, Rheumatoid Arthritis at eleven years of age. Her body was expressing what she couldn’t voice. Out of desperation from the side effects of the drugs she was taking she sought out alternative healing and therapies to help. Elissa came out of this time of therapy connecting with these unexpressed emotions. Emotions that she had been hiding away from for so long, started to be released and as a result the pain and swelling from her arthritis began to heal. Elissa’s story is a powerful one of how “Finding Another Way” to release unexpressed emotions has transformed her life. Living in a remote goldfields town in Western Australia she began lessons using the Suzuki Piano Method. Her love for the piano grew and continued even when she didn’t have a teacher living in her town. For two years she continued teaching herself and travelling to Perth, a 600 km road trip for “occasional” lessons. This commitment and love contributed to her family deciding to move to Perth so she could continue learning piano. This decision was well rewarded with Naomi going to University and studying a Bachelor of Music. She completed her Masters of Piano Performance a few years later with a study stint in New York and then Argentina. However, what is very special is how she decided as a 16 year-old to start teaching piano and earned an income from her talent. Naomi’s story of how she stepped out of her comfort zone and took on the challenges of developing her skills as a teacher as well as a musician is inspiring and will encourage you if there’s a gift or talent in you that could be monetized!! Pain and crippling spasms plagued her for twenty years. In a shopping centre car park early in 2019, her young daughter pleaded with passers by to "Please help my mother". Toni knew it was time to DO something. And DO something she has. She has found a new life. She says she has found FREEDOM to be healthy and live a normal life as a mother and wife to her beautiful family as a result of loosing weight. She has been loosing as much as 10-15kg a month. Nothing as significant as Toni's achievement is easy but her determination and focus has paid off in spades.
