Do you love getting your nails done? Is it your form of self-care? Do you secretly keep a list of looks that you plan on getting before you show up to the nail shop? If you answered yes for any of these questions, this episode is for you! In today's episode, Courtney is joined by Reiauh of VNB Nail Bar. Reiauh is a entrepreneur living in California. She created VNB Bar which is a vegan and FDA approved nail polish. Courtney and Reiauh discussed how to maintain a poppin' nail game without the risk of all of the nasty chemicals. Reiauh's Bio: Reiauh spent her life surrounded by art while growing up in the music industry. Her father was a multi-platinum song writer. She’s originally from Pasadena, CA and spent the majority of her life growing up in Chicago, IL. At a young age Reiauh became infatuated with the nail industry. She was the young 12 year-old who couldn’t stand having her nails not done, and she always knew she was an artist. After graduating college, Reiauh began traveling the world. Her heart was set on finding an amazing city in which to launch her nail bar. She spent some time in Rome and fell in love with its beauty, and was then inspired to create her vegan nail polish line named “October in Italy.” She sold her nail polish in cities across the nation, including Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Houston. After moving back to the golden state she began pitching in shark tank investment panels and found an amazing community of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and angel investors. She has a patent pending for nail salons, and is making Los Angeles the home of the soon-to-be Vendetta Nail Bar. In December 2019 Reiauh introduced a gel nail polish line to VNB Nails named “After Fall.” She is excited for what’s to come to the Vendetta Nail Bar brand.

This session was inspired by the book and movie, The Hate U Give. The main character, Starr discusses the pressures of being "Williamson Starr" and "Star 2.0." which showcases the pressures of blacks to assimilate and adapt to their environment so they are not stereotyped and seen in a negative light. Although this is a minor theme in the scheme of the major focus of this story, Starr's experiences, internal and external pressures are common place for black people in America. The host, Courtney Brookins, dives into the message behind the message and discusses the reality centered around this conversation.

This session was inspired by the criticisms and demeaning of women's stories that have been circulating around the media. Even in a time of widespread ideas and evolutionary thinking, women are still working to accept their voices, their stories and to fight to be heard. The host dives into the implications about silencing women and criticizing their story sharing. She also advocates for the voices of women of color who are often minimized, devalued and stereotyped through a longstanding historical context. In short, she advocates for women to find their voice, share their story and own their truth.
