How childhood trauma can affect mental and physical health into adulthood
"But not all hope is lost. Research strongly suggests that humans have an innate capacity to adapt and positively transform, even after traumatic and stressful events. Most importantly, positive, supportive and healthful activities can contribute to positive well-being among adult survivors of childhood adversity. Change has to start with ourselves first, so we can provide children with the safety, support, love, and protection they need."

Sexual and Emotional Abuse Scar the Brain in Specific Ways
"But that doesn’t mean that recovery is impossible. Most abuse survivors do not develop symptoms, in fact, and research shows increasingly that the brain can change dramatically when provided with the right type of support and emotional nourishment."

Today we explore just one of many studies conducted by people like Anthony M. Grant, Tasha Eurich, Tim Wilson, and Emily Pronin, which points to the fact that introspection is not the act of tapping into our deepest selves, rather it is a fabrication, a grand lie constructed by our brains in order to keep the story (it previously created) of "who we are" consistent.

Tune in to see what you can do instead of engaging in traditional introspection and asking "Why?".

If you are like me, you have been exposed to the idea that self-reflection (ie. introspection) allows us to better understand ourselves and therefore, better control our emotions and manage our behaviors.

Ever been told you need to "vent" your feelings? That it is unhealthy to bottle up your emotions?

Tune into today's episode for another segment of what we should have learned in school: -venting emotions doesn't release angry feelings -the idea of bottling up emotions and needing to release them only sustains feelings of anger and sadness -even crying isn't always therapeutic

Basically, the whole notion of catharsis is mostly crapola: ie. not real, not true. Learn what processes you can put your attention on instead.

Tune in for inspiring life story of one of the founders of this podcast series, originally recorded in October.

Kelly was a person who once described himself as "living life dead." He grappled with many of the problems us humans face such as: divorce, addiction, fear and anxiety, regret, and self-doubt.

Nonetheless, during the last couple years of his life, Kelly experienced a psychological freedom many folks never do. He honored his creative gifts for making music and plunging into the own to run his own business centered around music and technology. He listened to others deeply and without a personal agenda. He came to understand love and life in a completely new way, truly finding inner peace. This potential is on offer for every human being on the planet and is the reason why I will continue the message of practical hope found in these podcast episodes.

Kelly was the definition of courage and human potential. He never lost that kid-like zest for life that so many of us do. He showed his enthusiasm for the people, music, and projects he supported and loved -- and he showed his support fearlessly.

His life and passing has changed my life forever. In this way, the "student" truly became the "teacher."

I encourage you to learn more about Kelly and his music. We interviewed him on this show on the "What To Do When A Loved One is Addicted" shows. You can google Kelly Monsrud and find him on YouTube and Soundcloud, with Blue Dream one of his original musical works.

With love,

Amy Leo

Perfectionism. Comparison. Fear of Rejection and Criticism. Money Worries. Overwhelm.

Join us for a two part episode that explores these 5 common blocks and problems that most creative people are up against...and the one solution.

This is a podcast unlike any other, because it involves you. We invite you today to start your own experiential journey towards more freedom, happiness, and peace of mind, with your art and your life in general.

It is so important for us here at Revive Your Sanity that we aren’t just creating another space for how-to’s and opinions, but rather a place to reflect. A space to zoom out your perspective to focus not on your personal troubles, dreams, to-do’s, and aspirations, but to start reflecting on how the human experience unfolds. What is the system behind the scenes of being human and how the mind is working.

It seems that there are hundreds of psychological theories and personal development techniques. Though some may be helpful, they can’t all be true. That’s because they fall into personal thinking. They often aim to look at behavior in the world and modify it, without exploring the simplest, more neutral and universal root cause of all feelings and behaviors (and I am not talking about ‘triggers’).

To get in the best psychological shape of your life, head on over to www.amyleo.com to see what awesome resources we have cookin to jumpstart your journey to happiness and more peace of mind.

Join Amy Leo from amyleo.com as she speaks with Stella Stathi who converses with us as an eating and body image psychology mentor.

Stella stories how that first step toward improving the relationship we have to our body is sometimes the biggest.

Tune in as they invite you further into the possiblities that await your very own internal discovery toward the truths you believe about yourself so that you can move just a little closer toward taking one step to improve your mindset, your body image, and reconnect to your soul.

You can learn more about Stella at www.bodyprema.com!

Notes and resources from Stella... Stress activates the sympathetic nervous system which causes our blood to flow to our limbs in preparation for fight or flight. Therefore there is not enough blood flow in the stomach for proper digestion to take place. When we think negative, stressful thoughts like 'I shouldn't be eating this'', ''It's bad for me'', ''How many calories am I consuming now?'', or any other guilt-infused, self-judgmental thoughts we then create a 'high alert' situation in the body. This literally interferes with our digestion and our body's capacity to make best use of the food. Unconsciously this creates the same outcome we feared so much and desperately wanted to avoid in the first place.

Here is a couple of good articles on that, also referencing relevant studies: http://www.abetterwaytohealth.com/how-your-thoughts-affect-your-digestion/#foot_text_130_3 http://www.dantest.com/dtr_ans_overview.htm
