Mike and Trey talk about the Trump administration's reversal of an Obama-era guidance to colleges and universities on the use of race in admissions and a lawsuit challenging the inclusion of a citizenship question in the 2020 Census.
Mike and Jay discuss the recent spate of public shaming of Trump administration officials. Harley Davidson’s announcement that it will be moving some production overseas as a result of E.U. retaliation for President Trump’s tariffs, and some news on climate science which has Jay hopeful and Mike skeptical.
Mike and Jay talk about the life and death of conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer, conservative columnist George Will’s advice to not vote Republican in 2018, whether the United States should follow Canada’s lead and legalize marijuana, Jay’s up close and personal encounter with Facebook’s attempt to help clean up political advertising, and Chris Pratt’s surprising MTV Movie Awards acceptance speech.
Trey and Ken start the bonus episode by finishing their conversation on free trade. Ken finishes his thoughts on how trade with poorer countries it might actually depress wages over the long haul. Trey and Ken also propose a thought experiment for considering the digital economy as compared to manufacturing.
Then The Guys turn their attention to San Francisco's new female African American mayor and ask what might be the causes and long term impact of a spike in women running for office. This leads to some longer term thoughts concerning the general election.
Finally Ken and Trey discover that while Trey likes to run hundreds of miles a year,Ken prefers his exercise sitting down with a good book on the back porch. They then banter about warranties before discussing Michael’s weightlifting. They both sincerely hope Michael skips this bonus episode as they simply had too much fun this week!
Mike and Jay talk about the weird Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl celebration at the White House, why Mike wouldn’t even shake President Trump’s hand (and no, it’s not because he doesn’t know where that hand has been … though that’s maybe not a bad reason either), the weird things that happened to U.S. diplomats in Cuba that are now happening to U.S. diplomats in China, and EPA head Scott Pruitt’s venality.
Mike and Jay talk about the Roseanne Barr / Samantha Bee controversy, if there's a double standard for conservatives, and Illinois' ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and whether ERA will (or should) become part of the Constitution. Mike also discusses a sort of culinary science project he recently conducted in his garage, which went far better than he expected.
Mike and Jay's take on the Obamas' production deal with Netflix and the NFL's new National Anthem policy.
