Marty's story begins in an orthodox, conservative Jewish family in Nebraska. Immersed in traditional Jewish practices from a young age, Marty grappled with questions about sin and forgiveness that remained unanswered within his faith community. His life took a tragic turn when he lost his first wife in a plane crash, a moment that challenged his understanding of God's presence in suffering. His spiritual journey took a surprising turn upon meeting his second wife, whose distinct approach to life and faith led Marty to explore the New Testament, transforming his understanding of forgiveness and redemption through Isaiah 53's prophecy of Jesus as the Messiah.
Together, Patty and Marty's stories intertwine to reveal the profound ways in which the word of God has illuminated their paths from darkness to His marvelous light. Ever since he was in grade school, Jon has been a part of highly competitive, elite athletics, traveling across the country for tournaments and events. He spent two years on one of the best AAU basketball programs in Northern California (Lakeshow), while lettering and serving as captain as a three-sport athlete (football, basketball & track & field) in high school. He helped lead both his basketball and football teams to multiple league titles, two section championship game appearances while receiving all-league selections before taking his football career to the NCAA Division II level at Azusa Pacific University.

On this episode we welcome our dear friends from the Women’s Hope podcast Dr. Shelbi Cullen and Kimberly Cummings.
Dr. Shelbi Cullen currently teaches as an Assistant Professor for the School of Biblical Studies Department at The Master's University. She completed her biblical counseling training from the Institute of Biblical Counseling and Discipleship, the Master's University, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She has also been a member of The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) since 2005. She currently serves at Grace Community Church in Sunland, CA where she has the privilege of teaching women in Women's Ministries, and serving as part of the Biblical Counseling Ministry team. Shelbi is married to her husband Sean and they have 4 grown children.
Kimberly is a born and bred Texan who loves calling Southern California her home. She is the wife of 34 years to her beloved David, and a mom of two beautiful children, and two treasured in-loves.Kimberly finds great delight ministering alongside her husband as a pastor's wife at Lake Hills Community Church in Castaic, CA. The Lord has also given Kimberly a deep desire to proclaim Christ and His Word to women through discipleship. She has had the privilege over the past 25 years of being involved in various women's ministries through teaching Bible studies, leading mission trip teams, as well as teaching women worldwide. She has also been a certified counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors since 2009.

Mark grew up in Russia until 1990, when his family immigrated to Los Angeles and joined Grace Community Church. Having grown up at Grace, it was natural for him to prepare for ministry at The Master's Seminary, where he earned his M.Div. and Th.M. degrees. In 2017, Mark earned his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh. Mark joined the church staff in 2007 and currently serves as Pastor of Administration and as a staff elder in Crossroads, where he leads the Foundation Bible study.

Soraya Pozos was born in Monterey Park California, her mom was from Nicaragua, but most of her family was raised in California. She was not raised in a christian family, but her family’s religious background was non-practicing catholics. Soraya got saved towards the middle of her journey at a pentecostal church or like she said “in retrospect I wasn’t saved, I ended up leaving the pentecostal church because my friend pointed out the error in our theology, I studied and prayed and was compelled to look further into the error. Once I read scriptures and the book “Strange fire” along with prayer, the Lord in His providence led me to grace.”

Erminia Castaneda was born in a small town called Rockford in Illinois. Both of her parents are from Guadalajara Mexico. Although she was born in Illinois, She moved for a time to live in Mexico. She then moved back to Rockford to finish high school. Later on, she moved to Los Angeles to attend college as a fashion designer. She graduated From Brooks College in Long beach California with a degree in fashion design. Erminia says: “At this time the Lord has me here in Los Angeles for the great commission.” Matthew 28:19.

My life without Christ By Alex Torres Once before I was lost indifferent to God and blind to the wonders that God had done through His Son. I was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León Mexico. In a family where my parents did not know the Lord. I am the older brother of my parents’ three children. My parents, in their limited knowledge, instilled in me to study in the Catholic catechism at the age of 10. I was serving and I was also involved in the theater plays of the church. I had never read the Bible but my interest in biblical stories was very great. When I was 13 years old, I started a life of disobedience to my parents and my authorities. I was nothing applied in the Elementary School and in Junior High School. I had three attempts to enter the High School and all three attempts I failed. My circle of friends was many of disorder, drugs and pleasures. Everything was in decline when I was 15 years old and at the age of 18, I became rampant and became so inconsiderate with my family that it reached a point where I used cocaine and whole bottles of whiskey. Until one day in high school playing American football, God made my life change. In my sin I did not understand that God was already working with me. Now I understand that God had mercy on me by using a young man from the team to begin explaining the 4 spiritual laws (a superficial gospel). God intervenes in my life The moment God began his good work in me, I remember that the young man named Gerardo Alvarado was so insistent, trying to invite me to his church. After three months I told him that I would attend, just so he would not be bothering me anymore. The moment I went to his Church, God broke my heart because something was different from the Catholic Church. The music and the people who were in that place were different and everything changed completely. My understanding of a "Church" had a radical change. Now, what I am explaining is essentially what happened back then.
My convictions clung to what I had understood at the time (a Pentecostal, charismatic, Interdenominational Church). From my 18 years to my 20 years I was completely involved in that church. My life of sin had changed in part. I no longer had my previous friends and the practices I had before were no longer to my liking. But God had not changed my heart yet. I was someone who had known about Christianity and knew how different it was from Catholicism, but I had not yet been converted by the glorious Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. New life in Christ One day, at 20 years of age, someone showed me the “Shocking Youth Message” by Paul Washer on video. After serving the youth pastor and attending retreats and events of Christian artists, after all that it was that in that Paul Washer sermon, God confronted me and made me see that I was a false believer. I never had such a big conviction of sin and I never understood the holiness of God and what His Son did for me on the cross. He received the wrath of God in my place and gave me His salvation by grace and justification only by faith in Him. After that day everything was different. God granted me repentance and faith in the Gospel. My longing to know more about the truth of the Gospel was insatiable and now everything I had learned in Christianity I saw that it was false and superficial in its great majority. My greatest desire was for me to have a local Church where they could preach Christ and the glory of God. In other words: humiliate the sinners, exalt the Savior and proclaim His more glory. I tried to find local biblical Churches and found nothing. A few weeks later God saved a young brother (Mario Castro) who also through Paul Washer came to know the true Gospel. Together we left our churches. He was in a Methodist church and I was in an Interdenominational. God led us out of our churches, and we met for a few months in a small bookstore where we had studies of the Gospel and we tried to pray for biblical churches in Monterrey.

It was the Lord's inexplicable kindness to spare my life over and over again, allowing me to live through the violence of my sin, because I never deserved another moment. Now I just want every soul to know that HIS hand is not so short that it cannot save you nor HIS ear so dull that it cannot hear your cries no matter how deep the hell you are living in.
It was truly the goodness of GOD that led me to repentance, but surely the fear of HIM that helped seal the deal.”
