Cryptocurrency is not recognized as legal tender in Uganda; isn't though? Let's talk about it.
On Tuesday, October 1,2019 the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of Uganda issued a statement informing the public that;
1.) The government of Uganda does not recognize any cryptocurrency as legal tender in Uganda.
2.) Now you  are probably thinking EL Salvador recognizes bitcoin as legal tender doesn’t that mean that technically speaking to Uganda that  bitcoin qualifies as a foreign currency?
3.) What is a legal tender?
4.) The Notice proceeds to state that the government of Uganda has not licensed any organization in Uganda to sell crypto- currencies or to facilitate the trade in crypto-currencies and so these organizations are not regulated by the government or any of its agencies.
5.) Regardless of the above, crypto currency trading platforms like  Binance Uganda, chippercash,  YellowCard and many other trading platforms   are operating in Uganda.  How is this possible?
6.) As such, unlike other owners of financial assets who are protected by Government regulation, holders of crypto-currencies in Uganda do not enjoy any consumer protection should they lose the value assigned to their holdings of crypto-currencies, or should organization facilitating the use, holding or trading of crypto-currencies fail for whatever reason to deliver the services or value they have promised.
In conclusion. In conclusion, the public is advised to appraise themselves of the risks associated with cyber-currencies, and exercise caution before they make transactions involving such products but the government hasn’t made it illegal to operate a cryptocurrency firm in Uganda. Infact MP pointed out that Kwame Rugunda, the son of Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, is CEO of CryptoSavannah, a cryptocurrency advisory firm. Needless to some Mps criticize the govt on pyramid schemes and crypto currency

From around January 2021, I, like 3.40 other million social media users in Uganda have not been able to access our Facebook accounts directly without a Virtual Private Networks Facebook is still blocked in Uganda. Lets talk about it with @UGAMAN.
link to the blog is available here https://kevejoanne.wordpress.com/2021...
Important points discussed in this conversation.
1.From your online activity, you have been a keen ambassador determined to have conversations on the specific data of the number of Facebook users that have been affected by the blockage. Why is this so?
Kindly help us understand the class of individuals that you think were economically affected by the Facebook blockage? (Explain with examples)
Do you categorize digital marketing as E-business?
Facebook isn’t the only social media platform that digital marketers can use to market their business. Why are you still hung on to Facebook?
If you were making a plea to the relevant government officials on unblocking Facebook, what would your plea look like when being weighted against the so-called protection of national security.
Why is that only individuals and civil society organizations are the ones spear handing the drive to urge the government to unblock Facebook, aren’t companies affected by this blockage as well?
How would you encourage an individual to participate in the plea to urge the government to unblock Facebook?
Ham Vs DTB; the judgment in summary
Between February 2011 and August 2018, Ham KIggundu was offered loans by DTB Kenya which he was wanted to use for the construction of commercial properties.
DTB Kenya contacted its counterpart in Uganda (DTB Uganda) to collect loan facilities from the Ham. DTB-Uganda insists that it acted only as an agent of DTB-Kenya and did not conduct business in Uganda.
Ham then dragged DTB Kenya and Uganda to court in the case Ham Enterprises limited and 2 others V Diamond Trust Bank (Uganda) Limited and Another (Miscellaneous Application No.654 of 2020) [2020] UGCOMMC 32 (7 0ctober 2020) in which he wanted court to declare that the banks demand for the loans which were advanced to him by DTB-Kenya, is illegal and unenforceable on the grounds that the Kenyan bank had no license to carry out financial business in Uganda.
In this podcast, I summarize for you the court's holding on the critical arguments.
In regard to the DTB Uganda and DTB Kenya's statement of Défense, do they concede to Ham's submissions that they acted illegally by conducting financial institution business without a license thus violating the Financial institution Act of 2004 as amended.
In regards to the legality of the appointment of DTB Uganda to act as an agent of DTB Kenya?

The concept of social media political campaigns isn't something far fetched. In fact in 2016 Amama Mbabazi announced his presidential bid via his youtube channel followed by a question and answer session live on social media. Why then, is the opposition in Uganda strongly challenging the 2021-2020 recommendation to use social media for political campaigns? How practical is this recommendation in relation to the functionality of Uganda’s legal frame work and system especially in regards to online surveillance, protection of online freedom of expressions and protection of privacy and personal data on social media.
