Sloth isn’t just about laziness—it’s about avoiding what truly matters. In Proverbs, the “sluggard” isn’t someone who can’t act, but someone who won’t—choosing comfort and distraction over responsibility and faithfulness. Whether it’s physical apathy or spiritual drift, sloth slowly numbs our hunger for God and His kingdom. The cure isn’t to try harder but to love deeper—because genuine love for God and others always leads us to meaningful, faithful action.

Pride is the king of all sins because it dethrones God and puts self on the throne. It blinds us to our need for grace and leads us to say, “I don’t need God.” But Jesus shows us another way—He stepped down from glory, took the cross in humility, and offers us freedom when we lay down our pride.

Lust is like a fire — it starts small but can quickly consume everything in its path. God designed sex as an act of self-giving love within the covenant of marriage, not as a pursuit of self-gratification. Lust promises pleasure but leaves the soul empty, damaging relationships, faith, and our sense of purpose. The good news is that through Christ, our minds can be renewed, our past redeemed, and our desires reshaped for His glory

This Sunday at HCC, we continue our Seven Deadly Sins series by looking at Envy — the Green-Eyed Monster. Envy begins with comparison, grows through insecurity, and ends by stealing our joy, but gratitude breaks its grip. Join us as we learn how to recognize envy in our hearts, find contentment in Christ, and celebrate the blessings God has already given us.

This Sunday, we begin our new series on The Seven Deadly Sins by focusing on anger—a God-given emotion that often turns destructive when fueled by pride, selfishness, or misplaced love. Scripture reminds us that while righteous anger seeks restoration, sinful anger stems from over-loving the wrong things—our comfort, control, or reputation—more than God. True freedom from anger begins with love: loving God first and allowing His Spirit to shape our responses with patience, gentleness, and forgiveness.

As we conclude our series The Rise and Fall of a Hero by looking at Samson’s final moments. Betrayed, blinded, and enslaved, Samson faced the painful consequences of his sin—but in his brokenness, he turned back to God. With repentance came restoration, and in his last act, God used him mightily once more. Samson’s story reminds us that even in failure, God’s grace meets us with the power to redeem and restore.

Samson had God-given strength, but his downfall came when he treated sin like a game and forgot the Source of his power. How often do we do the same—pushing boundaries, thinking we’re invincible, only to find ourselves trapped? Samson’s story reminds us that pride leads to a fall, but God’s grace can bring restoration. If you are feeling stuck, experiencing a slump, or feeling far from God we invite you to oin us this week.

Samson’s life is a striking paradox—strong before men, yet weak before temptation; anointed by God, yet often compromised by sin. His story mirrors our own, reminding us that gifts without holiness lead to ruin but also pointing us to Jesus, who was victorious in weakness and holy in every way. As we learn from Samson’s failures, we are called to lay aside sin and pursue holiness, not in our own strength, but through the power of Christ who redeems and sustains us.

Samson appeared to be a hero, but his story reveals a man marked by weakness, pride, and failure. Yet God still worked through him to accomplish His purposes. The reminder for us is clear: God does not require perfection to use us—He works through imperfect people by the power of His Spirit. Jesus is the true Hero, and our role is to trust and follow Him.

This Sunday we launch our new series, Samson: The Rise and Fall of a Hero. Samson’s story reminds us that even when God’s people drift, He is still at work—raising up leaders, working in unexpected ways, and showing that He alone is the true hero. As we begin looking at the life of Samson, our prayer is that the Spirit of God would stir in us to live faithfully, courageously, and fully surrendered to His Kingdom purposes.

Anger itself isn’t sinful—it’s what we do with it that makes the difference. Jesus got angry, but His anger was righteous—it cleared the way for healing, worship, and restoration. The question for us is: will we let Him flip the tables in our hearts so our anger points people back to God instead of pushing them away?

We all deal with worry and anxiety at some level—sometimes it’s about money, work, family, or even big projects. The truth is, most of what we stress about never actually happens, yet it still weighs us down. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6 not to let worry steal our peace but to trust that our Heavenly Father already knows what we need. Instead of being paralyzed by anxiety, let’s keep seeking God’s Kingdom first and trust Him to take care of the rest.

Life can knock the wind out of you, and mental health struggles are more common than we think. In Luke 7, we see Jesus notice a grieving widow, feel deep compassion, and step right into her pain, even crossing social and religious boundaries to bring hope. The same Jesus who saw her sees you today—right in your anxiety, sadness, or struggles—and He’s not afraid to meet you in the mess. You’re not alone, you’re loved, and His mercies are new every morning.

As a new school year begins, we're marking Back to School Sunday by turning our focus to what matters most. In 1 Timothy 1:5, the Apostle Paul reminds us that the aim of our charge is love—rooted in a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. Whether you're a student, educator, administrator, parent, or simply entering a new season of life, this is an opportunity to reset spiritually as we step into the year ahead with purpose and clarity.

Our culture doesn’t do hard things very well. Whether it’s relationships, careers, school, or even church—we’re trained to chase comfort and quit when things get tough. But following Jesus was never meant to be easy—it’s meant to be worth it. In Jude, we’re reminded: expect opposition, stay connected to Jesus, show mercy, and give all the glory to God.

God is both gracious and holy, and while He calls us His own, He also calls us to live in a way that reflects Him. There are voices out there twisting the truth and pushing a self-centered gospel—don’t be fooled. Jesus is coming back, not just as Savior, but as Judge and King.

"Truth isn’t changing—people are just getting louder about twisting it. Jude reminds us to know who we are (loved, called, and kept by Jesus), recognize false teaching when it creeps in, and stay anchored in the gospel. This 'woke' culture wants grace without surrender, but Jesus calls us to something deeper: truth, holiness, and purpose."

"Ever been told to ‘just follow your heart’? Yeah… how’d that work out? In our last Trustworthy Saying, Paul reminds us in Titus 3:3–8 that our hearts used to lead us into a mess—but God stepped in with mercy, grace, and renewal. Now we get to live like that grace actually made a difference—by doing good, not to earn love, but because we’ve already been loved."

As we celebrate the freedom we have in our country, we are reminded that Christ has also set us free. However, our freedom is not to be used for ourselves but to serve others and build the body of Christ. This means that while we are independent, it is crucial for us to be interdependent on one another!

What was your best day? A wedding? A big win? Holding a new baby? It's easy to feel close to God on days like that—but what about the hard ones? Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 2 to remember Jesus, risen from the dead—because for those in Christ, every day is Easter. Even in suffering, regret, or doubt, God’s grace covers you. He’s not just faithful on your good days—He’s faithful every day.

This summer at HCC, we're diving into "Trustworthy Sayings" — real talk from Paul that hits hard. Today we kicked it off with the powerful reminder: Jesus came to save sinners… not the cleaned-up version of you, but the real, messy you. Paul went from Christian killer to church planter, and his story shows us that no one is too far gone. Jesus meets us right where we are — with grace that overflows.

We’re called to more! In a world full of influencers, God is looking for people who influence others toward Jesus — not for a platform, but to serve. Detours aren’t just delays—they’re part of God’s design. In Genesis 37, we see that even when life gets messy (and it will), God is still working. Sometimes things get worse before they get better, but trust that He’s preparing you for what’s next.

We all feel that tug-of-war inside—part of us wants to do what's right, and another part just wants whatever feels good in the moment. Galatians 5 shows us that life led by our own desires only leaves us empty, but when we let God lead us through His Spirit, He produces real change in us. This isn’t about trying harder to be good—it’s about walking with the One who makes us new. The more we follow Him, the more freedom, peace, and purpose we’ll find.

Today, we dedicate our new space to the Lord—not just the building, but all that will happen within it. Like Solomon’s temple, we’re praying that God fills this house with His presence and uses it to bring hope, healing, and transformation. It’s not about bricks and mortar; it’s about hearts fully surrendered to Him. May this be a place where lives are changed and Jesus is always the focus.

As we celebrate our first Sunday in our new building, we give thanks to God for bringing us here. While the space is exciting, the real church is the people, and we’re all about a relationship with Jesus — not just rules or rituals. Jesus calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to show that love by how we treat others. Real love for God is loyal, lived out daily, and transforms every part of our lives.

We say we “hate” traffic or brussel sprouts—but the world’s hate goes much deeper, especially when it comes to Jesus. In a moment full of politics, pressure, and a fired-up crowd, He was mocked, beaten, and sentenced... even though He was innocent. But here’s the thing: Jesus was never out of control. He willingly endured it all to bring us forgiveness, hope, and new life.

Following Jesus isn’t easy—it’s exhausting, heartbreaking, and often feels unfair. In the Garden of Gethsemane, the disciples fell asleep, Judas betrayed, and soldiers seized Jesus, yet through it all, He remained in control. The world relies on force, but Jesus offers grace—even to those who betray Him. As we walk this journey, may we remember that Jesus doesn’t just forgive our sins; He gives us new hearts to live in His mercy.

The cross is at the center because it's always about Jesus. From the Old Testament to the Last Supper, everything points to Him. Jesus took the old Passover tradition and gave it new meaning—showing us that through His sacrifice, we have a new covenant, freedom from sin, and the hope of eternity with Him. Communion isn’t just a ritual; it’s a gift that reminds us of His love, strengthens our faith, and comforts us in every season of life.

Have you ever wished you had more authority? Ever wanted to be king of the world so you could just do things as you see fit? Idle talk—we all do it! But how often do we fill our time with surface-level conversations while avoiding what truly matters? This week, we’re talking about how idle talk can keep us from deeper, more meaningful discussions—especially when it comes to faith in our homes. In our For the Kingdom campaign, we are covenanting with God to see his work move forward. In the Bible, covenants are relational, initiated by God and requiring obedience. From Noah to the New Covenant through Jesus, these covenants highlight God's desire for a relationship with us. Paul used the Macedonian Christians' covenant of generosity as an example of giving oneself fully to God, then giving joyfully, strategically, and sacrificially to His work.

Handling conflict can be tough, but Philippians 4 shows us how to approach it with a Christlike mindset! Paul encourages unity without demanding uniformity—it's okay to disagree, but we should still seek harmony for the Kingdom's sake. Pray, assume the best, and let joy and gratitude shape your perspective, even in tough moments. Let's focus on the big picture: moving the Kingdom of God forward.

Jesus doesn't mince words when discussing the Old Testament law. He shows us that its focus is on the condition of the heart. When our hearts are aligned with Jesus and our emotions are regulated, murder is not a concern. However, unchecked anger and prolonged rage can lead to harmful outcomes. Jesus clarifies that he didn't come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill them. He emphasizes the importance of following God's commands and teaching others to do the same, stating that righteousness exceeding that of the scribes and Pharisees is necessary for entering the kingdom of heaven. Jesus has established a better covenant, one where God's teachings are written on the hearts of His people and forgiveness is offered for sins. The point is that while the law was good, Jesus brings something better. Ultimately, true righteousness surpasses human efforts and comes from Jesus, not our own works.

One of the things about being a Christian is you carry the name of Christ with you wherever you go and whatever you do. Therefore, it becomes imperative that we live our lives in a way that honors Christ in everything that we say, think, and do knowing that that we are part of the family of God.

Every household has rules. Most of them are probably unwritten rules and imply certain expectations of the members of the household. Jesus makes it clear that this applies to His House (the Church) as well. With the freedom that He gives us, comes a certain level of responsibility to care for his house and the members of his house.

Harvesting is that glorious time when we get to lead someone through a prayer of forgiveness and salvation. We sometimes think of this as the definition of evangelism. It’s not the complete definition however. Just as Jesus told his disciples they were to reap where they did not sow, evangelism requires sowers as much as reapers, gardeners and harvesters.

We love the movie It's a Wonderful Life because we can so easily relate to George Bailey. He is a good guy who never fully attained his dreams as a young man. He wonders if his life really has any value and gets to a glimpse of what the world would be like without him. Ultimately, we see the real thing that gives life value is the spiritual healing we all need. Even good guys like George Bailey have a spiritual problem that only Jesus can fix.

Christmas in our world has become such a trap: the focus is on gifts, family time, and vacations rather than on Jesus. When we focus on these lesser things, they cause stress and anxiety but moreover are a set up for disappointment. Jesus is the gift that brings freedom, joy and peace for all people.

We, like Ralphie, like new things. Maybe for us it’s not a BB gun, but a new car or the next apple product. Jesus tells us the things of this world will always become old, and in him we find what is eternally new. We often look at Generosity with a selfish outlook: how will giving this (time, treasure, talent) affect me? We must shift that outlook to: how will giving this benefit God's Kingdom? How will this make someone else's day? When we do this, our attitude changes and God always provides more than what we need so we can keep on giving.

Whether it's being cut off in traffic or being cut off in life, sudden changes are hard. When our plans don't go the way we wanted we can get discouraged. In a culture that puts everything at our fingertips it is easy to get used to being in control and tempting to believe we really are. As Christians we have to remember who is in control. We have to know the difference between being self-controlled and being controlling. And we must learn the power of full faith in God.

In the Christian life, we can fall into the trap of thinking that once we accept Christ, God will sprinkle fairy dust on us and we will be overflowing with joy and never have any troubles in life. Today we continue the series called "Be and Behold". There is a great deal of confusion as to what qualifies one to be a “real man.” Even more puzzling is how to be a "godly man". The answer is not found in trying harder or doing better but in genuine relationship with Jesus. This moment was not shorted for the podcast and we encourage you to participate in asking the Lord that same question.
