This podcast has a very special meaning to me and I share my very recent & personal breast cancer diagnosis in the intro. The timing of my interview with Irmi and my subsequent diagnosis make this discussion about our health wealth, early diagnostics, bioligical vs. chronological age & more so, so much more raw and critical. I implore everyone reading and listening to continue to inform yourself on how you can advocate for your own health. I am here to be a cheerleader as well as perhaps an inspiration for early diagnostics. Ultimately, it is my goal to help spread the power of metabolic health so we never actually get cancer or other insidious diseases!
Dr. Irmi Huber has more than 25 years experience as a serial entrepreneur and is co-founder of NEOTES, a longevity driven start-up that is translating cutting edge science for the benefit of those who want to extend their health span! Neotes seeks to enable people to live longer and better or even reverse their biological age using data-based personalized longevity recommendations. In addition to diagnostics, they provide access to medical professionals as well as supplements that are designed to support your individual needs. (no one size fits all solution here!)
What are the 12 Hallmarks of Aging?
Dr. Irmi and I discuss her journey to the longevity start-up world, many different sliding door moments, her personal journey caring for and losing her partner to colon cancer and how she is motivated to help put all of us in the drivers seat of our own longevity.
Before you go to down any longevity enhancing road, it is quite important to check where you and your body are at first. This will avoid spending money on supplements and treatments that may not be necessary. NEOTES has the same philosophy. Diagnostics are a key pillar for optimising your health. (I have learned this quite poetically myself)

Laura Spaulding's story of poverty, discrimination by top military officers for being gay, struggling to feed herself to going into the police force and then starting her own crime scene clean-up is something that Hollywood would make a movie out of.
Her Youtube channel, Crime Scene Cleaning, has over 50 million views. She has the fastest growing crime scene clean-up franchise in the US. She started her business with a home equity loan, because banks would not loan her money for her crime scene clean-up business. Today, that business is worth over $25 million.

Today's guest, Nikita Michelsen, founder and CEO of Pearlita, is set to positively disrupt the trash cans of the ocean- OYSTERS!
Hear how Nikita set out, less than 1 year ago, to launch a cell-based oyster company to solve the problem of the pending collapse of the world's oyster reef's. As much as 85% of the world's oyster reef's have disappeard in the last 200 years!
As a young founder, Nikita tells us how her upbringing in Sweden & Danish roots prompted her to create a product that honored the culture of her childhood while simultaneously protecting this key part of our oceans. She also tells us how they quickly pivoted to create a "plant based" oyster line as a short-term product win as well as to learn more about what customers are looking for. They have had rave reviews in blind taste tests and also created a "biodegradable" oyster shell to go with their vegan oysters!
Did you know?
In just about an hour, you will be inspired and informed on how important it is to keep our ocean temperatures down and to champion innovators such as Nikita and Pearlita!

If you consider your health to be part of your wealth or your "wellth," this is the podcast for you.
Dr. Mike Belkowski, founder of Biolight, discusses the "insane" benefits of red light therapy. It really is not an overstatement! Once you start to understand how important light is to our body's natural circadian rhythm, it starts to make a lot of sense. In fact, I was quite suspicious when I read, years ago, how important sleep is to fat loss. I thought that sounded ridiculous.
However, scientific research after scientific research continues to point to the importance of maintaining a healthy circadian rhythm. There are a series of important events, like domino's in our body. When we forsake one or more of these, the system gets off balance.
Mike trained as a physical therapist and made an early pivot when he went into a private, cash based business. He found that the major insurance companies would not pay for some of the alternative therapies he was using and were really effective; such as dry needling. He did not want to be beholden to an "old" school medical ideology.
I make it my mission to seek out and interview these types of revolutionaries, game changers and disruptors.
It is of paramount importance to me that you are given the most up-to-date data on anything that will improve the quality and length of your life.
Some of the topics we cover include:
This was both a fun and informative podcast that I really think will pay "dividends" to you and your health.
Biolight has an entire page on its website dedicated to red light therapy research on key areas of the body. Check it out here
Mike also has his own podcast, The Red Light Report, where he goes into detail on everything red light and our health! Also a must listen!
The bottom line is that red light therapy is a pretty inexpensive (when you amortize the years of use and the reduction in health issues), convenient and non-invasive way to take charge of your own health and healing.
At the end of the day, our health is our issue. We should do all we can to make sure this one body is treated well and it will in turn, treat us well.
#holisticwealth is the way to live!

Hello Shot Callers and everyone else listening.
Today's podcast is actually a Solocast! I take you on a slightly "random walk" from relaying some science around NOT always having a plan B, meandering into Stoic & Epicurean philosophy; unravelling the quote that nations start STOIC and die EPICUREAN(with context of course), continue on with the backstory of Nick Hanauer and his pitchfork/middle out economics theory; strongly advocating for a thriving middle class and END on my passionate new private membership: THE WEALTH PACK!
This is only 30 minutes long and will give you both a nice historical brief on topics that are of VITAL importance to those nations-especially America- who value democracy and economic prosperity. This isn't rhetoric, this is economics.
Any thriving, successful nation since the beginning has had one critical element; A STRONG MIDDLE CLASS! Ignore this at your peril.
How many extra haircuts can a billionaire get? How many more meals can a billionaire eat? How many refridgerators are billionaires buying?
Quote from Nick Hanauer, "The US made plutocrats, not the other way around. A thriving middle class is the source of prosperity in capitalistic economies NOT a consequence of it."
Nick's Ted Talk can be found here.

Will Durant quote
Thank you for listening to this podcast. It is my singular goal to exponentially increase female financial wealth and thus improve the well-being of the planet. I WANT MORE FEMALE PLUTOCRATS! (around the world)
Plutocrat: a person whose power derives from their wealth.
What is the Wealth Pack and why should you join?
The Wealth Pack wants women to thrive in all aspects of their life and recognizes that we can't focus on all the big buckets of life in a vacuum.
Strong mental health is necessary to tackle the other issues of your life. Strong financial health helps you to stick to your values and live your dreams. Strong physical help allows you to participate in an active life. Strong planetary health means we all thrive!
I am building a platform & community that will help you thrive; It is a dynamic source for financial literacy & news as well as a support system for redefining and building wealth; inclusive of mental, physical and planetary well-being. Mind, body, wallet and planet are the top priorities.
My goal is to reach 50,000 women in the next year. It is radical and it is achievable. I believe that what I am building will be revolutionary for women but also for the world. I believe we can find a more harmonious middle way. But, we need more women PLUTOCRATS!
We need you to not just build wealth but to utilize your existing wealth in a way that will actually ensure our legacy is able to be enjoyed by our loved ones.

John Belizaire, CEO Soluna Computing; Disrupting Crypto Mining with Clean Energy Power!
John and the Soluna team are creating green data centers that enable crypto currency's energy consumption to be a feature and NOT a bug!
John recently spoke on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to try to help legislators understand just how disruptive & important their clean energy, small footprint data centers can be.
John had this to say;
"The reality is that if we execute well, computing can be a catalyst for growth in clean energy — a crucial component to meeting our goals of pollution reduction AND rural job creation. And you in this room have the ability to shape policies that can encourage more sustainable cryptocurrency, deter bad actors and redefine our thinking regarding what grid infrastructure should look like."
In our podcast, John explains his varied and profitable entrepreneurial background, how he has worked with a core team throughout much of his career and the very compelling economics behind creating "additionality" for the clean energy operators by putting these data centers on sight!
Reducing curtailment, the lost clean energy that the grid cannot absorb, is a total game changer.
$144 billion Private Equity and Venture Capital dollars has gone into the renewable energy sector in the first 5 months of 2022. That is up from $48 billion in the same period of 2021.
Savvy Shot Caller listeners will understand how this will have a serious impact on the investment landscape for investors.
It is my goal to scale global financial equality by giving you insight into the mega investment trends of the future.
Despite the volatile stock and cryptocurrency markets, there is tremendous long term opportunity in both economies for patient and well diversified investors.
Bonus: Soluna Computing is a wholly owned subsidiary of Soluna Holdings. Soluna is traded on the NASDAW under the symbol SLNH.

Hey Shot Callers, get ready for a fun and fiesty episode with Dancoise Köchler, founder of Expat Ladies Zürich and me, your Shot Caller host!
What is sexy, sexy time? Well, it is a bit of a mash up between two women who met in Zürich over 10 years ago when both were practising their entrepreneurial chops at a trade fair- Dancoise with her Cake Lady brand and me with my Prêt á Party e-commerce business.
In 2020, I invited Dancoise to come on the podcast to talk about race, divorce with small children, financial confidence and her self-love journey.
Fast forward to May 2022 and we have just as great a connection; discussing hot topics like Roe v. Wade, owning your power, being unafraid to go for it as entrepreneurs, preventing financial vulnerability and a whole lot of sass and excitement about the fast growing sextech and "love making" creator economies!
Depending upon the age of your children, you may want to listen to this with earpods or a headset:)
There is nothing inappropriate; just two women talking about real, sexual topics that empower.
If you love this episode and would like to hear more from this dynamic duo in the future, please reach out; rate the podcast, leave a review or check us out on all the social media links!

So take care of the energy you emit as well as what you let in around you.
At the end, Stefan gives us a real life example of how he uses energy to move a very heavy key!

Cindy Stibbard, CEO of Divorce Redefined, is a professionally guided divorce and career transition coach; advocating for a BETTER divorce and BRIGHTER new future. |Podcast sponsored by Pause Well Aging| Cindy, like many successful entrepreneurs, started her business out of a void. Having struggled through her divorce on many different levels, Cindy decided to start a business that could help with pre-, during and post-divorce support, for the benefit of the entire family. Cindy discusses the four key segments where divorce will impact you; financially, legally, socially and emotionally. She also emphasizes that she is not pro-divorce but rather an advocate for healthy relationships. She helps people get "unstuck" when she recognizes behaviours that are not serving her clients.
From The Shot Caller and The Wealth Alchemist perspectives, one of the biggest areas of vulnerabilities that shows up time and time again is the financial piece.
She knows this piece well because it happened to her. It is an important part of our discussion; helping woman to be less vulnerable in marriage often means educating them on financial and investment topics.
Cindy works with mostly women, but men are approximately 25% of her client base and she hopes that continues to increase. While divorce is not gender specific, nor is Cindy's professional support, it is very common for her to find women who are the most vulnerable. 90% of her female clients come to her without any bank account in their own name!
Gray Divorce is on the rise. While studies show that the average age of divorce in the US is 30, the rate of people divorcing over 50 has doubled since 1990. (A report by Business Insider found)
Additionally, the LA Times did an article that said divorce over 50 is truly financially devestating, especially for women, whose standard of living drops on average by 45%. For men, it is a drop of around 21% after divorce over 50.
Clearly, helping people to navigate these potential landmines and ideally avoid them, especially for women, is a smart thing to do.
I believe this podcast will resonate for a wide range of people. Ultimately, both Cindy and I want to see more women empowered and in less vulnerable positions.
Our podcast sponsor, Pause Well-Aging, is specifically addressing the big challenges women face during peri-menopause and menopause from a skincare perspective. From their Collagen Boosting Moisturizer-I am a raving fan, to their fascia stimulating tool and their Cooling Mist spray for HOT FLASHES, Rochelle and team are making sure women in their 50's have skincare suited to their skin!
Share this podcast with anyone you think could really benefit.
Cindy is also kicking off a special series with VoiceAmerica called- “Divorce ReDefined: Changing the Experience of Divorce”
On March 16th, yours truly, The Wealth Alchemist-Shannon Sagawe, will be a guest!

Nikolina Lauc- CEO of GlycanAge, a precision health company that has the only biological age test that accurately measures your unique response to lifestyle change, explains to us the 30+ years of glycan research that has helped them develop their unique blood test. | This episode is brought to you by Pause Well Aging, a well-aging company that is more than just skincare. It’s a movement affirming that beauty gets better with age. |
This father and daughter duo are unlocking the human glycome for preventative health and longevity. Nikolina, however, did not become an entrepreneur with Glycanage. Nikolina has ONLY been an entrepreneur, starting as a teenager.
Coming from a family of academics, she was hindered by dyslexia. Reading Richard Branson's biography was a breakthrough moment when she realised there was more than one way to be successful in life. Hearing Sir Richard's story of both struggle but passion was a huge influence in her decision to walk her own "entrepreneurial" path.
Her father, Prof. sc.D Gordan Lauc, is a molecular scientist and on the forefront of advanced glycan science.
Glycans play a vital role in keeping us healthy but are also involved in most major diseases. As we age, the balance of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory glycans in our body changes. She explains how glycans have a large influence on your unique biology and are regulated almost equally by our genes on one side and environment and lifestyle choices on the other.
Nikolina has become a major advocate for educating women on the impact of peri-menopause as it is during this time that women see the greatest increase in biological age- up to 9 years. She discusses the current, unsatisfactory healthcare support for women in both peri-menopause and menopause. Nikolina explains the misleading HRT study that created a huge controversy around breast cancer risk.
We also hear about her personal $250k investment into the firm, their venture capital fundraising efforts and the fact that GlycanAge is already at break-even financially!
If you want a sneak peak into how glycans inform what diseases you may be at risk for, 7-10 years ahead of time, this is a podcast for you. If you want to learn, with more precision, what your personal disease risks may be, take one of their at-home blood tests.
At the end of the podcast, I actually do a finger prick GlycanAge blood test live! Listen to the end to see how well I do.

What happens when you cross a cat rescuing microbiologist with another cat rescuing MBA student? You get a passionate and purposeful team who has set out remove animals from factory farming and the pet food supply chain by creating cultivated mouse meat! BOOM, we have Because Animals! That is what we call SHOT CALLERS!
Shannon Falconer and co-founder Josh Errett bonded at a Toronto cat rescue organization and realized they had the skills and passion to help take animals out of the pet food industry supply chain.
Shannon, having completed her post-doctoral fellow in microbiology and immunology at Stanford, realized she had the scientific knowledge to create cultivated meat for the pet food industry. It would be the first step in removing animals from our pet food supply chain.
Because Animals has already launched their first non-cell based pet products; probiotics and treats for cats and dogs. In 2021, they also successfully raised over $3 million in venture capital from big name firms Draper Associates, Orkla, SOSVC and many more.
Their first limited edition cultivated "Mouse Meat Cat Cookie" is set to launch in 2022. In early 2022 they will launch their A round of venture capital fundraising to expand their test facility for larger production capability. From a health perspective, it makes a ton of sense to give cats a "native" diet, instead of the left-overs from an awful chemical process from animals they would NEVER normally eat in the wild.
So many of you listening to this podcast will have a precious pet at home. You will want the very best for your fur baby. But how many of you know the origin of the pet food you are feeding Snoopy and Garfield?
The answer is that most of us, including me, are oblivious. Not only does Shannon Falconer explain to us what "fallen animals" are in the entire food supply chain, but also how awful the condition of meat is in these "rendering" facilities.
Shannon enlightens us some of the challenges behind "feeding" the cells they are growing. The common ingredient used is called "fetal bovine serum." This was obviously NOT a solution for them. These protein "media" are also very expensive. This was one of the first hurdles they needed to overcome. As a chemical biologist, she relied on her training to find a better, more ethical solution. They have made great progress, but it is a process that will continuously be refined and improved.
As a business, Because Animals intends to be very price competitive with the premium and ultra-premium segment of the pet food industry. She tells us, by the way, that these two segments are the only current "growth" markets in the pet food industry. This is a comforting statistic as consumers, ie. pet parents, are becoming more discerning about what they feed their dogs and cats.

Henrik Lund, CEO of Naturli- tells us how Naturli is not just a plant-based food producer; they are a MOVEMENT, that also happens to produce and sell plant-based food products.
Naturli was founded in 1988 and for quite a few years, their products were only to be found in the specialty allergy section in a remote corner of Danish grocery stores. The Dragsbeak firm, a Danish firm around since the 1920's, saw an opportunity to expand their product range with Naturli and invested in the company. Eventually they bought them out and developed a great partnership.
Henrik regales us with several stories on creativity, innovation and building community as accelerants to their success story.
They created the first private Naturli "chillers" in the grocery stores in Denmark to showcase their plant-based milk products- "creating envy" amongst the other grocery chains who were not yet carrying the "Naturli chillers" in their stores.
Naturli embraced the plant-based community to get feedback on what was the most important future products they wanted.
Naturli and Henrik have taken a positive, humorous and often ingenious approach to building their brand and staying ahead of the pack. Naturli is now a fast growing "global" firm, with a firm fan following in the UK, especially at Sainsbury's, in Coop Switzerland, recently in the Ukraine, Scandinavia of course, Europe, Australia via Woolworth's and now the US!
Naturli has teamed up with other plant based food makers such as OATLY to fight the non-sensical proposed EU Legislation to restrict plant based food companies from using terms such as "creamy," "veggie burger," "butter and cheese substitute," and more.
Given the HUGE impact that animal farming has on climate change, the preaching from the EU to slow the warming of the plane, this was a massive hypocrisy by the EU, showing their spinelessness to the EU Dairy lobby, that fortunately failed.
This podcast is a great "case study" for anyone out there looking to build a consumer food company, understand inclusive leadership and embrace change. Henrik is so positive, reflective and a great inspiration for how to connect with consumers in a meaningful way. Follow Henrik and Naturli via their FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM pages. Please also ask your local grocery store to carry their products, if they don't already! They are fantastic.

Dr. Nichola Conlon, a leader in longevity science since 2014, is a passionate advocate for education in longevity science. As CEO and Co-Founder of Nuchido Laboratories, She wants to help YOU be YOU for longer!
Why is Nuchido different from many other supplement companies? They are "systems pharmacologists" who approach the the body’s many challenges with multi-targeted solutions that address the underlying biological complexity that is required for optimal cellular health. They translate scientific advancements into simple and effective products for broad consumer use.
Nichola tells her story as a young researcher finding many different molecules that she believed could be very effective in increasing longevity and "health span." However, many of these molecules were patented for drug use and would not generate the kind of financial returns that most drug companies require. Dr. Conlon decided to start her own company, starting with the powerhouse molecule, NAD+.
Why NAD+? NAD+ is a critical coenzyme found in every cell in our body, and it’s involved in hundreds of metabolic processes. It plays a significant role in turning nutrients into energy in our body AND is a key player in our metabolism. Unfortunately, it is estimated that your NAD+ levels halve every 20 years- from birth! By the time you are elderly, you most likely have only a small amount of NAD+ working for you in your system. Thus, it is such a huge problem and one she wanted to create a science first, effective supplement to help the body increase NAD+.
Nichola explains how this is not a straight forward process and that many companies out there are just trying to "load" more into our system; which Nichola and Nuchido believe to be an "ineffective" solution. The Nuchido team works on the "recycling pathway" that the body uses very effectively. The problem is not the "raw materials" but the "recycling pathway."
For those of you who want to understand how the body has evolved and uses NAD+ in our system, this is a fantastic podcast. Nicola explains the process so that everyone can understand.
You will walk away with more motivation and clarity on where to spend your time and money on slowing the aging process and most importantly increasing our HEALTHSPAN!
Dr. Conlon and I discuss the other important ways to upgrade your health and live longer; intermittent fasting, eating whole foods and exercising. You can NOT supplement your way out of a bad diet.
Lastly, we spend some time hearing how having a higher level of NAD+ as a woman in or around menopause is proving to be a great way to minimize many of the symptoms women suffer from; lack of sleep and brain fog to name a few. October is both Breast Cancer and Menopause Awareness Month. According to Dr. Lisa Mosconi, over 850 million women all around the world, have just entered or are about to enter menopause.
Nichola has had many female customers report back a significant drop in some of the worst menopause symptoms. She has been so intrigued that they are starting a study on this topic alone, so that they can back up these experiences with scientific results.
Nuchido is offering all the Shot Caller listeners a 10% discount off their purchase of the TIME+ supplement! Use code TWA10 (The Wealth Alchemist) at https://nuchido.com/pages/nad-supplements
Nichola is passionate about bringing their longevity science to everyone and not just those in the biohacking world. Please share this podcast with anyone you think might be suffering from a lack of energy, menopause symptoms or someone who is fascinated by science! I believe you will be doing them a great service.

"There is a term sometimes used called 'toxic positivity.' For sure our thoughts have power and ultimately we want to see the glass as 'half-full,' but absolutely, not at the expense of suppressing emotion." Sylvia Beasley-Suffolk, Founder Shine True
In this very special episode, Sylvia explains the very significant impact our thoughts have on every aspect of our life. Our thoughts can of course serve us or make us miserable.
Sylvia uses my Oktoberfest story, where I unravelled over not finding my dirndl hours before the event and how that brought up surprisingly strong emotions for me around not feeling confident and comfortable in my own body.
She explains the concept of the energy body and its components; mental, emotional & physical body. It holds our subconscious beliefs as well as our suppressed emotions. So many of our core beliefs, learned in childhood, we may not even be aware of.
Beyond explaining why we live in these vicious circles, she gives us the tools to break-out of this unhealthy cycle and get back into the emotional "driver's seat," to live a more balanced and happier life.
Humans are absolutely wired to AVOID pain and seek pleasure. We are far more driven by "loss aversion" than the prospect of gain. These "dinosaur" brain reactions can inform how we both see and react to our environment. Sylvia explains what an "amygdala hijack" is and how to recognize when this is happening.
Science continues to uncover just how connected our physical health is to our emotional state. Not addressing our emotional pain can be at our personal physical peril. There can be no "wealthy warriors" without both physical and mental well-being. Health is an unremovable piece of living a wealthy life. For this reason, I have asked Sylvia to do this podcast along with a lovely meditation at the end.
Her meditation is to help get you "grounded" and return to a more balanced state of mind.
I truly hope you bookmark this podcast and come back to it whenever you are feeling untethered or ungrounded.
Let Sylvia know if this podcast resonated and helped you.

"Humans almost never enter a period of resource deprivation. That's what led to fasting because this creates Autophagy, which cleans our cells. We need to go back to our evolutionary processes and realize that our technology has gone far beyond our body in recognizing our new environment. We need to intentionally invoke Autophagy. Whether that be through Spermidine supplementation or fasting to clean out that dead toxic matter to extend our health and lifespan." Daniel Dietz, CEO Longevity Labs, Inc.
Daniel Dietz, CEO of Longevity Labs US and SpermidineLife+ tells us the fascinating story of how Dr. Frank Madeo from the University of Graz discovered Spermidine's role in turning on "Autophagy" in our cells. He shares with us how Dr. Gerald Sitte and Herbert Pock then worked with Dr. Madeo to license and develop SpermidineLife+ supplementations, ALWAYS as a "science first" company. The Headquarters for SpermidineLife is in Graz, Austria.
This podcast will get you up to speed on what Autophagy is, why it is important in living a long AND healthy life and the various ways to support this mechanism via intermittent fasting and the breakthrough peptide supplement SpermidineLife+ that his company manufactures.
Daniel also gives us insight to the US regulatory environment around supplements and how consumers can be a bit more savvy in understanding what to look out for in the wild world of supplements. We get into the topics of #ketosis, #biohacking, #cellularscience, #bioavailability and more.
This podcast is for all you budding #biohackers out there who want to "upgrade" and "renew" your cells to live your BEST and longest LIFE!

In Part 2 of the Screen Schooled Podcast, Joe Clement and Matt Miles , two veteran teachers from the Washington DC area, do a deeper dive with Alex and I on how the over exposure to gaming and especially social media is contributing to the teen mental health crisis.
"Learned Helplessness" and a prolific lack of resilience among the teenagers they teach is a big theme in this episode. Joe and Matt give examples of how parents are overly controlling their students schedules, tests, homework and complaining about grades. This trend to prevent any "failure" in our children means a lack of accountability and resilience later in life that may come back to bite, hard.
Joe and Matt discuss the trend for boys to be more addicted to gaming and girls to be more addicted to social media. In their book they sight a tripling of teen death by suicide from 2007-2017, coinciding with the invention of the smart phone. Other problems like anxiety and depression are also massively on the rise.
If we know, and science has demonstrated, social media is toxic, why aren't we as parents, teachers and as communities doing more to help them? This is a big question that requires big, sweeping contribution from our entire society, including the tech firms and the educators who are embracing technology in a way that does not actually serve their students.
As educators, Matt and Joe are often subjected to school administrators who think they should not be left behind in the school "tech" proliferation trend. They don't use digital devices as as A TOOL, but rather as proof that they are modern and up-to-date with trends. Students of all ages are now overdosed with screens and digital devices, much to their detriment, Joe and Matt argue. Grab a copy of Screen Schooled to inform yourself on both the problems and the solutions for raising well adjusted and balanced adults.
If you have children, you will be doing your entire family an important act by listening to what these two veteran teachers have to say. We are in the midst of teen mental health epidemic and avoiding the worst outcomes for our children should be our top priority.

Avoiding "Financial Learned Helplessness" with the Revolut Card and App!
The Wealth Alchemist, me, is a HUGE fan of the new REVOLUT JUNIOR Card! (link to referral code) They have features like; tasks and goals that align pocket money, school accomplishments, good behaviour, etc. to earning some extra money. Both parents can transfer money via their Revolut accounts. Your child can have limited access to only their account to see their account balance. I particularly love the feature that sends me a text whenever one of my boys is using their card. It helps me to have "teachable" moments if I see spending patterns that might be unhealthy. (lot's of $1 to $2 Itunes purchases that actually add up to a lot of money!)

Joe Clement and Matt Miles are two veteran teachers from the Washington DC area who could no longer stand by and watch the systematic "dumbing down" of the students they were teaching.
As the proliferation of digital devices increased, both at home and in schools, they saw direct correlations to cognitive decline, lack of critical thinking, short attention spans, apathy, addictive behaviour, fragile sense of identity, anxiety and depression explode.
Their book, Screen Schooled, was published as a wake up call to parents and school administrators. According to Matt and Joe, "Rather than becoming better problem solvers, kids look to Google to answer their questions for them. Rather than deepening students’ intellectual curiosity, educational technology is too often cumbersome and distracting, causing needless frustration and greatly extending homework time. Rather than becoming the great equalizer, electronic devices are widening the achievement gap."
Joe and Matt want to empower parents with this "wake-up" call to engage with educators on the proliferation of digital devices and screens in every day education as well as to take a long, hard look at the amount of time your children are spending on devices in a purely "passive, entertainment" mode.

Early pandemic, March 2020, Martica Wakeman found herself without a job and a bit shaken by this experience. She quickly reacted to her circumstances by networking extensively to find like-minded people and job opportunities, as well as throwing herself into social work, something she has a long history of. Working at a local soup kitchen in San Fransisco was a great way to give back but also recognize that her problems were fairly insignificant to many others around her.
Martica was introduced to Miles Pepper, inventor and entrepreneur who co-founded Final Straw in 2017. Miles had already started designing a concept for Sanikind and the two of them immediately saw an opportunity to work together to create a meaningful and impactful company to address single use hand sanitizer. Thus Sanikind was born, in the middle of a pandemic.
Miles' experience with Final Straw meant he had experience with a very successful Kickstarter campaign as well as manufacturing contacts for recycled plastic pellets. Miles and Final Straw had raised $2 million for his collapsable straw. This meant they could get up and running with fundraising and production design quite quickly.
By August 2021, they had raised $317,736 from Kickstarter contributions and were able to launch their first product by November of 2020! That is no easy feat in the middle of global lockdowns due to a rampant pandemic. Passion and Action mobilized!
Hear how valuable the Kickstarter community was to their product design and development, how no product is truly "sustainable," but you can be a "responsible" business.
We discuss her entrepreneurial inspirations; Swell Water Bottle and Blueland! Two amazing companies with two inspiring entrepreneurs; giving consumers a chance to make positive environmental choices.
I also have a moan about how unbelievably unresponsible and unsustainable my former favourite company Bath & Body Works is. When I delved into their recycling program, I was woefully disappointed and truthfully sick to my stomach. How many of these 1oz. mini hand sanitzers get thrown away a day? They have 1600 stores in the US. My god, the scale of virgin, non recyclable plastic that this company is contributing to makes me super angry. Here is a look into a report on their grade as a company from a CSR perspective. (Corporate Social Responsibility) https://bettergoods.org/bath-body-works/
Martica discusses the concept of "good debt" vs. "bad debt," and how getting her MBA and Masters in Sustainability were excellent examples of important investments she made in herself.
She highlights how critical the state of our oceans are and what we do matters. Sanikind has recently started to start collaborating with corporates as well as other eco-conscious influencers such as Echobabe Monica Richards.

Grace Glass & James Mount created the Natural Paint Co. with an uncompromising purpose to integrate sustainability, nature and quality into their paints. Starting with a 20,000 NZD loan they have been growing 50% yoy and were profitable in their first year.
The Natural Paint Co., based in New Zealand, is part of the wave of disruption hitting old, pollutive and unreflective industries. Their paints come from plants, are VOC free and for every 1 sqm of area you paint or oil with their products, Natural Paint Co saves 1 sqm of Amazonian rainforest through a rainforest trust. This means for every 10-litre pail you buy, you will be directly saving around 8 car parking spaces of precious forest from deforestation.
Grace was a practicing nurse and James had been working in the paint industry. Together, these two millennials decided to build a company with quality, beauty and nature at the core of it all.
One look at their Instagram page and you will see just how beautiful their colours and washes are. They have created a community who share pictures of all their products put to good use; wooden toys, luxury AirBNB homes, interior and exterior oils, inspiring home design and more. Is is worth noting that they offer a 25 year paint performance guarantee, the paint is washable and has exceptional coverage rates! They have sythnesized the choice down to 100 colours, to avoid decision paralysis.
Hear how they bootstrapped their way to profitability, used crowd funding to raise capital, product awareness and build a tribe of fans! We hear about two innovative financial companies; the Snowball Effect & Sharesies as well.
Grace and James are fans of self-love in the entrepreneur's journey, love personal development books and floating, support each other and are simply a great example of how two people can really make a difference.

Isabel Aagaard tells us how they were inspired to create products that had massive and positive environmental impact via the Last Object. Learn how this group of Millennial Danish designers took their love of creating beautifully designed products into the world of sustainability. Isabel and I discuss the delicate balance of motherhood and entrepreneurship as well as how they ingeniously used Kickstarter to validate their products.
Isabel's mom is the founder of the massively successful global company Troll Beads. We discuss how her mom was a great source of inspiration as well as a guiding light for knowing how to keep relevance with consumers throughout decades not just days! Troll Beads grew with their customer base both in time as well as in geography. Founded in 1976, they are still going strong, although a smaller company, still very successful and beloved around the world.
The Kickstarter campaign that launched them; attracting 30,000 backers for their first product "The Last Swab!" Isabel explains how they used Kickstarter for product feedback and to establish a great community of supporters.
At 30 years old, Isabel is a great example of how all of us can make a difference. They were profitable after year one and continue to develop innovative products that truly have that 10x environmental impact they set out to accomplish. Check out their products and think about gifting them to friends for birthdays and other holiday celebrations!

I am publishing this podcast on my 50th Birthday! Why? Because I love this planet, I love innovators and I love people who fight to make this world a better place for those who don't have a voice.
Brianne West, Founder and CEO of Ethique, is a heavy-weight, world-class, environmental warrior; forcing the consumer goods industry to either significantly improve their business practices around product waste and toxicity or become a cautionary tale as the next generation finds cures to their established environmental hangover.
Let me tell you about Ethique! Ethique is revolutionising the cosmetics industry by removing the excess water used in the packaging and creating beauty bars that are cruelty free, palm oil free, do not cause harm to your body, sustainably produced and biodegradable!
Thus, they are:
In this episode, Brianne gives us a bit of background on her Ethique journey, insight into her crowdfunding experiences and how many of her early investors now have the ability to pay off the mortgages on their homes and gives us insight into the tricky world of sustainable innovation. 75% of Ethique's investors were female!!!!
She is straightforward and a realist. She recognises that being overly idealistic excludes too many options for incremental improvements.
Brianne has a passion for animals, the oceans and our planet. She is a true leader and change maker. The next generation of young sustainably driven scientists will haver her as a model and we will all be the better for it!
As a consumer, you will both LOVE her products as well as feel all warm and gooey inside because you have bought a product that does NOT contribute to our environmental hangover and they are awesome cosmetics! I finally got my hands on two shampoo bars, one conditioner and one face conditioner! I am in LOVE! They do NOT strip my thin, 50 year old hair:) They lather beautifully!

In our second episode with Dr. Elizabeth Yurth, double board certified in physical medicine & rehabilitation and Anti-aging/regenerative medicine, she gives the Shot Caller listeners a deeper dive into the world of peptides.
Her core methodology is to Replace, Restore & Regenerate. She highly recommends that people start their health journey with a blood test that includes looking at hormone levels. She then helps clients to "replace" what might be missing or imbalanced at a mineral and hormonal level. She moves on to "restoring" the body to a more balanced existence- looking at circadian cycles of sleep and light as well as intermittent fasting to encourage Autophagy. From there, she goes into "regeneration" mode with peptide therapies!
She explains the various use cases for peptides such as Ipamorelin, BPC, TA1, Epigallocatechin, Interleuken 1 and the powerhouse peptide Spermidine! If you want a simple yet very effective overview of some of the most useful peptides for injury and longevity- this is a podcast for you!
She also has a great hack on alkalinity by using Alkaseltzer Gold to hack your PH balance!
If you are an athlete- professional or amateur- she has some sage advice when dealing with injuries to prevent future and almost certain arthritis.
Dr. Yurth has just launched the BLI Academy to help you take charge of your health and longevity. A multi-layer resource center to optimize your body for ultimate performance! They have free membership until July- so hurry on over to check it out.
This podcast is sponsored by SpermidineLife+ US. *SpermidineLife+ is a wholly owned subsidiary of Longevity Labs, based in Graz, Austria. Their supplements are now available in both Europe at SpermidineLife+ and the US. It is important to note that their supplement is the ONLY one to have been in clinical trials. They are a science first company. They do NOT use synthetic extraction methods. Instead, they use a very special, natural water extraction method from extremely high quality wheat germ. They go to great lengths to make sure the wheat germ does NOT have glyphosate, that awful ingredient found in round-up.
I have been taking SpermidineLife+ for one month now and can definitively say that my eyelashes have grown and become darker and my nails have also become stronger. It normally takes about 2 months to make a material difference, so I am happy for what I have seen so far. I have also put my 76 year old mother-in-law on them!

In this first episode with Dr. Elizabeth Yurth, who is double board certified in physical medicine & rehabilitation and Anti-aging/regenerative medicine, gives the Shot Caller listeners a masterclass in how we do NOT need to accept aging gracefully.
Dr. Yurth started her career as an orthopaedic doctor and was an early adopter of functional medicine. In 2006, Dr. Yurth embarked on an entrepreneurial journey by co-founding the Boulder Longevity Institute. She is renowned for her “patient first mentality” and commitment to “empowering the patient’s role in their health.”
Dr. Yurth was selected as one of the 25 mastermind physician fellows in SSRP (Seeds Scientific Research and Performance) which allows her to stay abreast and teach others in the emerging field of cellular medicine. Dr. Yurth has consulted for numerous sports teams including the San Francisco 49ers and the Stanford University women's basketball and soccer teams.
In episode 1, Dr. Yurth encapsulates the topic of increasing longevity into bite size and digestible-pun intended- information.
You will walk away with an understanding of “what to fix first” and avoid decision “paralysis” that many of us face when standing in front of what may seem like a huge undertaking. She explains the evolution of medicine: from Traditional medicine, to functional medicine to now cellular medicine. She explains zombie cells, autophagy, oxidative stress, why progesterone is so important-especially for women and how the traditional birth control pill may be causing us much more hormonal stress than we realize.
I have the extra pleasure of having my daughter Sophia join us in this podcast as she is about to become a pre-med student in Switzerland. She is also fascinated with bio-medicine.
In Episode 2, we do a deeper dive into the world of peptides.

After graduating from Harvard (JFK School of Government and the business school)Diane went into investment banking. She began her banking career over 25 years ago. A fortuitous trip to the UK and falling in love meant she decided to build a life there. Her interest in making sure bank legal documents "reflected" the intent of the transaction. This led her to get a law degree with Kings College in London. She has been a transactional, legal banking lawyer since then.
Diane became a single mother as she continued to build her career-which was no small feat. She eventually relocated to Zürich with Credit Suisse and continued to thrive. A variety of changes at the bank and her approaching a "certain age" meant that she was faced with some very challenging career decisions at a point in her life when she should have been reaping the rewards of years of hard work.
In this podcast, Diane shows us her tenacity, her vulnerability and her willingness to invest in herself by learning new subjects and skills in the midst of one of the most difficult times in her life. We get an insight into trying to survive those "banking reorganizations," the importance of not tethering all of your personal self-worth to your career status and how being open to learning as an adult can bring wonderful, exciting new opportunities!
After leaving Credit Suisse and figuring out her next career move, Diane pursued the topic of "social responsibility" with absolute gusto. She rallied a wide variety of top alumni groups in Zürich to work together to host events around the most pressing social issues we are facing. This had the side benefit of massively increasing her network and exposure to a plethora of fast growing businesses. Thanks in part, to her enrolling in the Oxford University Blockchain course Diane has since gone on to nab the CEO position of a social media start-up with blockchain technology, Vitae.
This podcast is for anyone who has had a door shut "on them" and needs to hear how this could instead be a door shut "for you!" This podcast is about inspiration in the darkest of times. Investing in yourself and knowing your worth- holistically- is what we should all be doing. Topics like age discrimination in the workplace need to also be addressed.
As we age longer and better- the definition of 'mature' needs to also change. Corporations need to look at their diversity and inclusion from a "multigenerational" perspective as well as the other metrics; sex, race, etc. Interestingly, the fastest growing segment of entrepreneurs in Australia is the over 55 segment!
Please let us know if this podcast moved and inspired you!

Green Queen is now the largest eco-wellness impact media platform in Asia-winning awards on the way.
In Part 2 of our 2 part interview, Sonalie and I dig deeper into their mission at Green Queen.
Sonalie does not believe we can solve our climate problems with technology alone. She does not think we should leave our future in the hands of "tech, finance or industry titans!"
Sonalie also makes a very strong point regarding the need for governments to get onboard with more regulation on climate change, less or even zero subsidies for the meat and fishing industries and to stop placing all the responsibility on the consumer!
We discuss some of the biggest points illustrated in Seaspiracy and how many of the topics in this documentary, they have been writing about for over 10 years.

A fascinating discussion with Maximon founder Tobias Reichmuth on the topic of longevity, the hallmarks of ageing, supplements that actually help to slow the ageing process, creating a Longevity Valley in Switzerland and much more!
Thomas is definitely someone who can see trends and the opportunities behind them. in 2009, Tobias founded Susi Partners, a private fund manager investing in sustainable energy infrastructure to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns for our clients and their beneficiaries while contributing meaningfully to global carbon neutrality. This was not the "hot" sector at the time.
With Maximon, Tobias and team will build companies along the longevity value-chain; from enablers such as science-based supplements, genetical improvements, and personalized treatments, to necessities such as life-long learning, healthspan-insurances for centennials, to sustainable asset management solutions replacing today’s pensions and co-living for active and healthy seniors. Blanka Campbell is an energetic, positive and motivated certified nutritionist who focuses on teaching women how to balance their hormones with food, get their digestion, sleep and energy under control in order to FLOW through their days with ease.
Blanka strongly advocated getting the hormones under control to avoid experiencing peri-menopause too early.
Blanka spends a lot of time helping people get their digestion under control. She tackles those "awkward" discussions to help clients who suffer from bloating, excessive gas, diarrhoea, constipation, binge eating, weight gain, or stubborn belly fat.
Blanka also talks to us about the role INSULIN plays in our body and cycles. She ANALYZES at all of her clients BLOOD RESULTS. She then can help guide them on what food they personally need to help their hormonal and insulin balance. She explains to me some of the controversy over soy that I have been wondering about. She also explains how to eat foods rich in phytoestrogens for women whose blood work shows lower estrogen.
We also hear how too much estrogen during menopause has been linked to increased chances of cancer, especially Breast Cancer! There is also strong scientific evidence that is pointing to dementia beginning around the time women are beginning menopause-possibly due to these massive hormonal changes. Shockingly, 2/3 of ALL Alzheimer's patients are women!
This episode is my International Women's Day gift to all of my listeners. I strongly BELIEVE a WEALTHY life includes living a healthy life!

Shira has a background that would make Lara Croft and Tony Stark jealous! Shira is an alumna of the Israeli 8200 Elite Technology Unit of the Intelligence, a Harvard BA (with Chinese) and an MBA from St. Gallen University in Switzerland.
Shira brings a decade of business activity in leading global corporations including Teva Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Israel (NASDAQ: TEVA) and Bank Julius Baer & Co. in Zurich (SIX: BAER).
In this podcast, we hear about how growing up in Israel under some tense security environments shaped her path. She is a major advocate for women joining the military as a way to boost confidence, skill development, networking and as a major career differentiator.
Shira tells us how losing her Swiss banking job was gone after a re-organization at the end of her maternity leave was both hugely disappointing but also the catalyst for starting Cyverse.
Shira's background in cyber intelligence and her access to best-in-breed Israeli tech companies gives her an edge that others could only dream about. Not only does she have over 100 European multinationals as clients in cybersecurity defense, she also launched Cyverse Capital to be an equity investor in these companies as well. A simply brilliant business combination.
Shira is a HUGE advocate for women in the military, but argues she is still absolutely dedicated to peace.
She tells us of her passion for a charity called "Seeds of Peace" that tries to bring children and teenagers together from often opposing backgrounds to become leaders that drive change and understanding for each other.
Lastly, Shira believes strongly in the value of mentoring young people, especially girls who want to pursue a career in cyber security.

Luzius tells us about his new venture; Swiss based AKTIONARIAT. On February 1st, 12:01 am, AKTIONARIAT became the first firm in Switzerland to tokenize their shares; 100,000 in total!
Those who listened to the podcast back in September 2020 with Luzius, he told us he was helping to write the Swiss legislation that would allow the tokenization of shares for small and medium enterprises. True to his word, they have done it.
The new “Swiss Federal Act on the Adaptation of Federal Law to Developments in Distributed Ledger Technology” allows companies to develop a framework that links financial and real assets ownership to a DLT-based asset token.
Luzius does a great job of explaining the "use cases" for some of these new technologies.
In addition, Luzius and I discuss the Robinhood/Gamestop/Reddit Wall Street Bets Saga that gripped the world last year.
He also kindly explains what has been behind the recent Bitcoin price explosion, what a Dogecoin is and enlightens me on CryptoKitties as well!

Monica Talbert, her sister and her mom seemed to have blasted onto the plant based seafood scene from out of nowhere last year. In reality, this triumphant trio from Virginia had in fact been running a very successful Crab Shack, Restaurant and supplying a variety of grocery store chains with their amazing seafood recipes for over 10 years!
As the Van Cleve Seafood Company began to grow rapidly, they needed to source seafood beyond the Chesapeake Bay. Monica, who was in charge of the business and operations, made a trip to Indonesia to look at new suppliers. It quickly became apparent that the seafood industry and their global supply chain, were hiding some pretty unhealthy and sometimes inhumane practices. It was on this trip that a seed was planted in Monica to see if she could be an agent of positive change.
Meanwhile Monica's mom, Shelly Van Cleve, had been busy doing what she does best; creating "mind blowing" seafood recipes. This time, she had created a plant based crab-cake that they were having fun with and fooling some of their customers with taste tests. At the last minute, they threw it into a new product line called Wild, Skinny, Clean and the next day, they were inundated with calls from around the world. That was the moment, they realized this was how they could be a positive force for change.
The Plant Based Seafood Co was born in May of 2020, their first product was ready in August 2020. By September they had won a Spirit of Innovation "Most Innovative" new product. They followed this up by winning Peta's Libby award for the best "vegan based meat!" To top off 2020, their "Mind Blown Coconut Shrimp" was featured on Tab & Chance's UBER popular Instagram channel!
I LOVE this interview and their story! I believe there is something in here for everyone! Please consider sharing with your teen children as this is the sort of story that will also inspire them as they head out into this big world!
Those of you listening from the US will be able to order their Mind BLOWN plant based products now. Those of us in Europe and beyond will have to wait a bit longer! But, Shannon and the Shot Caller Podcast will do all we can to help get their products to the European continent!

MOGU makes science sexy, luxurious and sustainable! This is a must listen for anyone interested in mycelium, fungi, architecture and advanced sustainable material science!
MOGU, founded in 2014, sits at the intersection of luxurious, interior design and the cutting edge of sustainable, micro intelligence! Utilizing their proprietary disruptive process, MOGU produces materials by growing selected strains of mycelium on pre-engineered substrates sourced from agro-industrial residues. (Coffee grounds, rice straw, corn crops, discarded seaweed and clam shells!)
This allows them to create a material from raw materials that would normally be discarded without any economic value. By using these industrial residues, they create an additional "economic" benefit for their entire value chain and offer a beautiful, sustainable, luxurious product to the consumer.
MOGU's first two commercial products are acoustic panels and industrial flooring.
Gianluca Belotti, head of innovation at MOGU, sits down to walk us through their story and their focus on continued innovation into new markets. Gianluca oversees, PURA, the bio-fabrication unit within MOGU, where they apply their fungal fermentation process to fashion and food innovations!
Gianluca gives us some insight into one of their most disruptive projects, FUNGAR, the worlds first "smart fungal" living architecture building. In collaboration with UWE Bristol academics with partners from Denmark (Centre for Information Technology and Architecture), and the Netherlands (Utrecht University)
Using a novel bio-electric system developed by scientists, living fungi grown inside the building's framework structure will act as a sensor detecting changes in light, pollutants and temperature, and computers will analyse the information. When particular changes are recognised, the system will have the potential to respond adaptively by controlling connected devices such as lights and heaters.
MOGU has had funding support from the EU, as well as some private, strategic investors. They are in discussions with new investors to help support them as they scale up existing products as well to commercialize their new disruptive fashion and food products.

In this "Veganuary" themed podcast we have the pleasure to hear from Alexandra Clark to talk to us about the food regulation governing innovation in the new “novel” & “cultivated meat & dairy” economies.
Alexandra is a vegan consultant who spent more than a decade in the EU capital of Brussels, initially working for the Vice President of the European Parliament, helping drive the agenda to reduce animal product production and consumption in the EU.
In 2009, she initiated and organised one of the parliament’s largest ever hearings, Less Meat = Less Heat, exploring the link between animal agriculture and global warming, with keynote speaker Sir Paul McCartney!
Covering a wide range of policy areas, her work included leading the Brussels lobby to increase EU public investment in alternative proteins R&I securing the ‘promotion of plant-based menus’ as a mandatory criteria in the EU’s Green Public Procurement criteria for food and catering; and successfully removing ‘higher animal welfare and environmental standards than the legal minimum’ from the blacklist of banned practices in the Unfair Trading Practices regulation. (I had to read that about three times before I understood it-then I was quite shocked that increasing animal welfare standards was a “banned practice?)
She helps us understand the rather large hypocrisy of the recent EU vote in October 2020 that voted for stricter rules on labelling of dairy substitutes. It would forbid them from using terms such as "milk-like" or "cheese-like" for plant-based products that contain no dairy components. This follows on an earlier EU ban from 2017 that forbid terms like "Soy Milk" and "vegan cheese." Given the massive climate impact from dairy, Oatly waded in on this, calling the decision ‘wacko’ and an ‘incomprehensible’ direction to take ‘in the middle of a climate crisis’.
We discuss the EU Farm policy and all the billions that go to subsidise industrial farming. A New York Times investigation conducted in nine countries for much of 2019, uncovered a "subsidy system that is deliberately opaque, grossly undermines the European Union’s environmental goals and is warped by corruption and self-dealing."
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/03/world/europe/eu-farm-subsidy-hungary.html#:~:text=The%20European%20Union%20spends%20%2465%20billion%20a%20year%20subsidizing%20agriculture.
Alexandra expresses the importance of reducing the chance for another pandemic, following upon the devastation of Covid-19. We discuss the riveting Hope Through History podcast by Jon Meacham. The 1918 Influenza episode is particularly relevant to this discussion and a wonderfully educational intro for children and young adults on the topic.
We discuss Gregg's vegan sausage roll and how it fueled a profit boom for them. Alexandra is also encouraged by KFC's partnership with a lab grown meat company in Russia.
This podcast offers a great insight into both the challenges and opportunities of shifting the EU (and global) diets towards a plant-based menu.

Yesterday I recorded my last podcast for 2020- a tribute to all the people behind the scenes who have supported, encouraged, championed and provided me invaluable feedback on my journey to create a financially empowered and purpose driven tribe via the Shot Caller Podcast. This was my way to thank them and hear how they were challenged as well as prospered in the year 2020. They also tell me what podcasts most resonated with them!
Wishing you all a safe final "slide" into 2021. This was a weird, sometimes tragic sometimes uplifting and always fluid year! It will take time to do the "post game" analysis as far as I am concerned.
However, I am an eternal optimist and the world has never needed optimism more than today. See you in 2021 where we will continue to build a brighter, better, financially confident and purposeful world-where everyone has a seat at the table!

Fengru tells us about her passion for cheese and how her search for high quality dairy led to an awakening about poor farming conditions; poor animal hygiene, cows pumped with hormones, contaminated water and more. This all leads to poor quality milk and thus poor quality cheese. Her journey took her to Indonesia, Thailand and even to Vermont to learn her cheese making trade. In the end, she realized that if she could not source high quality milk, she could not continue her cheese making passion, thus starting her on the path of sustainable, clean lab-grown milk and the beginning of Turtle Tree Labs!

Wild Geese
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rainare moving across the landscape,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting--
over and over announcing your place in the family of things.

Having launched her banking career in the Credit Suisse career start program, she went on to become a top fund manager with GAM-Global Asset Management. As co-fund manager of the GAM Absolute Return European Fund she helped grow the assets to $3 Billion! Ready for her next adventure, she decided she did not want to wait for another promotion from GAM and instead founded SwissRex AG with Reto Stiffler, which does fundamental research of crypto tokens and launched their Crypto Fund. They subsequently launched Crypto Consulting AG as a way to monetize their knowledge on "tokenomics" and create cash flow that would get them through the next 3 years while they built a track record with their fund.
Their strategy is to look at the 100 biggest tokens from the over 5,000 that exist today-most of which are very ILLIQUID. They believe very few will become big. They look for hidden gems. They apply a liquidity filter and in the end their universe is about 50 tokens. From there they add a valuation model. She discusses this is further detail on the podcast.
They think the next BITCOIN move up will be driven by a few key factors; distrust in central banks, negative interest rates, inflation as well as the "halvings." (See the podcast with Luzius Meisser to learn more about what Bitcoin Halvings are.)

Drs. Sandhya Sriram and Ka Yi Ling are the first scientists to ever isolate the stem cells of shrimp. They asked "why we need to raise an animal for several years, feed it with food that could be fed to humans, slaughter it and then only eat a small fraction of the animal? Why can't we just grow the meat we want to eat in an ethical, cleaner more sustainable way?" As cutting edge scientists and women on a mission, this is exactly what they have set out to do.
The US Shrimp market is approximately $500 million per annum. Shrimp is the single largest consumed seafood in America, followed by Salmon.
Take the US number and multiply it by 20 to get the size of the shrimp market in China alone- $10 billion!
"Many fisheries around the world throw away more fish than they keep—some of the biggest offenders are shrimp fisheries. In the worst cases, for every pound of shrimp caught, up to six pounds of other species are discarded and this incidental catch of unwanted or unsellable species, known as "bycatch," doesn't just include fish—turtles, seabirds and other animals also suffer." She takes mothers through her proprietary approach to equip them to handle challenges, nurture self-love and organize their personal and professional lives. She helps them rediscover their self-worth, so they can foster healthy relationships!
It was during Nadera's second pregnancy, many years after having her first child when she was fairly young, that she realized something was not quite right. She felt constant pain and could not get the medical community to take her seriously. The immense pain and discomfort led her to feel "guilt and shame" for not enjoying her pregnancy. This led down a path towards a sort of depression. We discuss this journey and how she used her own personal experience as "confidence fuel" to reach out to other mothers who may also have felt isolated, scared and not beautiful during their transition to motherhood.
After rediscovering herself and understanding how change can facilitate growth, she decided to found her own coaching school called "Sassy Momz!" She wants to help other women find their inner goddess and live bold, sexy and free! Nadera and her Sassy Momz network are great examples of what Shot Caller and our echosystem stand for. Episode 2 of 2:
In the second part of this podcast, we hear more about how Seven dealt with the dark hole of depression, investments in their health being one of the most important things they could do for themselves and emerging with renewed vigor of liberation from a former life that did not serve them any longer.
Seven tells us how they set themselves an annual challenge to do something terrifying. One of those challenges was taking a stand up comedy course, culminating with performing at the famed Comedy Store in Los Angeles. This led to some serendipity in being introduced by another performer to River Gallo, an intersex filmmaker and actor. River and Seven found a common bond and are both advocates of increasing the opportunities in Hollywood for intersex people. Seven has become an executive producer on River's short film Ponyboi.
‘Ponyboi’ is the world’s first narrative film to be created by and starring out intersex artist in cinema history. The film was run at 40 film festivals, including Tribeca Film Festival and won Grand Jury Prize of Best Short Film. it was named by Forbes as "One of 5 short films not to be missed."
Seven also helped to get Stephen Fry and ultimately Emma Thompson on board as producers of the short film! If you are interested to hear more about their fundraising efforts to get the short film turned into a feature film, contact Seven at sevengrahamsolutions@gmail.com
Seven is currently writing their memoirs. You can get a teaser by reading "The Alchemy of Authenticity: Turning Your Shit Into Gold."
Seven spends a tremendous amount of time as an activist, supporting the intersex community and advocating against performing surgeries on young, intersex children. Seven highly recommends watching the Netflix documentary film "American Circumcision." As a society, Seven wants people to think long and hard about why we are circumcising these young, baby boys.
Please share with others you think this will resonate with and let us know if you really liked this podcast. We love to hear from our listeners!
Episode 1 of 2:
Seven is a British intersex activist, comedian, filmmaker and playwright, and drug addiction counsellor.
Born as “Sarah” in 1969, she would come to learn at the age of 24 that she was actually born an Intersex person; both female and male body parts. Sarah’s discomfort with her identity started early and would only be truly understood at the discovering of her intersex status. Neither she nor her parents were told the truth. Instead, Sir John professor Dewhurst, president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists told Sarah’s family she had ovarian cancer and secretly removed the internal testes. A practice that he and his team continued advocating; deciding the gender of intersex children without any input from the child nor the parents. An enormous breach of decency, trust and ethics, in the name of medical research. These “experts” believed nurture was stronger than nature-to devastating results for those they played god over.
Sarah was then forced to have bi-annual check-ups, again being told the entire time it was cancer related. This intimate, regular invasion contributed to Sarah becoming vulnerable to sexual predators, shame and drug abuse. This information caused an explosion of identity and belonging, but ultimately led to a journey of awakening, albeit a difficult one.
Through many trials and tribulations, in c. 2017, Seven was born. Seven prefers the pronoun “they” and has truly curated a life of authenticity and advocacy that is awe-inspiring!
Seven has advised the UK Government on its addiction policy as well as counselled Mitch Winehouse, which was documented in his story "My Daughter Amy." Seven has written two plays on the Intersex topic and continues to advocate for Intersex equality, especially in the creative world of Hollywood. Seven is currently an executive Producer, along with Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson on an exciting short film called "Ponyboi," hopefully soon to be a full length feature film. It stars River Gallo, a brilliant, talented intersex actor & writer.
There is so much depth, awareness and passion in Seven that comes through in this podcast. Please enjoy this wonderful story.

Welcome to another Shot Caller Podcast where we bring you the most inspirational, innovative and ground breaking change makers we can find.
Anne-Flore Marxer embodies everything a Shot Caller could embody; adventurous, brave, passionate, curious, fierce and willing to speak up when she sees an injustice.
In this podcast, Anne-Flore tells us how her World Class Snowboarding career took off. We learn about one big American female influence, Tara Dakides, who was one of the only women doing amazing snowboarding tricks at the time. She explains how she decided to tackle the many inequalities within her sport including lack of sponsorship, being told she could not participate in certain runs because it was too dangerous for a woman and having to perform on bad runs at the end of the day, after the men. These inequalities led her to parlay her early activism onto a bigger stage by creating, writing and producing the award winning short-film, A Land Shaped By Women.
Feeling fatigued by doing an entire tour as the female, snowboarding "leftovers" of the 2017 Verbier Free Ride Tour (which she won)*,* Anne-Flore asked her good friend Aline Bock to go to Iceland for some positive, female energy. The day after the tour Anne-Flore and Aline set off for a 10 day Icelandic adventure. She had read about the gender equality progress in Iceland and wanted to see for herself. They met with many inspiring, Icelandic women and by the end of the trip an idea was "hatched" to take Aline's van and spend a winter riding the waves and mountains of Iceland to really understanding how they had achieved such success on gender equality. A Land Shaped by Women is a beautifully filmed and executed inspiring adventure. The two top athletes travel on waves and mountains exploring the land and the women that reshaped the politics and prosperity of Iceland. Anne-Flore and Aline Bock show us, via their amazing sports prowess; surfing, snowboarding, skiing and paddle boarding their way around Iceland, just how equal they are to any adventurous man out there. All the while, creating an awareness of a better way for society to live in balance.

Your next Shot Caller story is told by Elisabeth Dewey, co-founder of Organic Mondays, a plastic free period company that delivers your organic, bespoke box of feminine products on a monthly basis. They are a modern and ethical brand. The subscription comes as little as Euro 15.50 a month and can be cancelled at any time! They ship around the world!
The Inspiration:
Elisabeth and her co-founder Nancy are revolutionising both the sustainability & convenience of the products we, as women, will use on average 10-11,000 times in our lifetimes.
The Inspiration came upon hearing from a midwife the shocking amount of plastic in these products. A business idea was born and Mondays was launched.
The Funding:
Elisabeth and Nancy understood from the beginning that they wanted to create real brand and that would require a proper amount of funding. They went to Kickstart, a crowdfunding group in Zürich to get pitch for funding. Elisabeth's banking background helped her to have the understanding of how to pitch this product to a male dominated VC world in terms they would understand by Highlighting the massive size of the market and how unsustainable it currently is. Focusing on the the large sales opportunity and not the potential pitfalls was a critical part of their fundraising success.
The Planet & Sustainability
The typical menstrual pad women use, takes 450 years to compost! Organic Mondays uses organic cotton with a Mater-Bi® barrier backsheet, which is 100% biodegradable. If their products were littered in the street, they would take only 6-9 months to compost. Their goal is to help women who want to make a small step towards sustainability and using natural products on and in their bodies, with convenience and price competitiveness!
The Organic Mondays Mission
Organic Mondays is part of the 1% For The Planet effort where they donate 1% of REVENUES, not profit, to environmental and social causes. They are a tremendous example of how businesses, even start-ups, can thrive with both purpose and profit!

Fashion Bulimia "We don't need any more clothes! If we stopped making clothes today, we would have enough clothes to dress the planet for the next 50 years!" Dana Thomas- Fashionopolis
From modelling in Rome and Paris to becoming a Washington Post Journalist, advocating for less "fast fashion" and a more conscious consumer. Dana Thomas' first job was as a model for local department stores, making $75.00 an hour in the late 1970's. She saved her money up to put herself through college so she could become a journalist. Her dream was to become a political reporter for the Washington Post!
She did get her foot in the door at the Washington Post where she had the good fortune to work for and with some journalistic legends! (David Remnick, Michael Spector, Gwen Ifill)
The Antagonists and The Protagonists The bad guys are anyone who bases their business on "fast fashion" and "volume" in her opinion.
We produce 100 billion fashion items a year but only sell 80 billion. It is much cheaper to make 100 and sell 80, knowing full well that 20 billion will get destroyed. It is cheaper and more profitable on ONE kind of balance sheet. However in the bigger picture, one which takes into account all the different impacts it IS NOT cheaper. The Kering Group and Price Waterhouse have created an "environmental profit and loss" statement to reflect the TRUE cost of the fashion we produce.
The Fashion Innovators Stella McCartney is a trailblazer in this space. She is a lifelong vegetarian and super supporter of PETA. She set-out to create a brand that designed and produced "animal free" clothes. Recently, she has launched a biodegradable Tennis dress that I personally can't wait to get my hands on.
There is a long queue of new and exciting entrants into the alternative leather space that we discuss. Modern Meadow, Ananas-Anam (pineapple fibre) and those using mushrooms or mycelium to grow the material. Colorifix is the first company to use biological processes to produce, deposit and fix pigments onto textiles. Dana also talks about a very cool new company called TIPA, making compostable & flexible packaging!
She gives me a little lesson in 3-D printing and how we will all eventually be printing our clothes after receiving a "link" from the company we bought the item from!
People, this IS the FUTURE!
Sprinkle of Marxism While still a capitalist, Dana somewhat jokingly but also with some sincerity, advocates for a "sprinkle" of Marxism to bring us back to balance. Capitalism and Globalization have been unbridled and unchecked for 30 years. When they get into problems, they are happy to ask for government hand-outs and it creates a very unhealthy cycle.
Dana tells us that "you do not need an MBA to realize that Zero-Waste is better business!" We discuss John Wood's recent book Purpose Incorporated which advocates the growth potential for businesses that align purpose with profits!
What responsibility do the consumers have in the fast fashion world? We need to educate the consumer and they need to be part of the solution. Understanding the vulnerabilities of those people in the emerging economies living and working in terrible conditions who are making our clothes is a good start. We can also put pressure on the brands to honour their commitments, pursue transparent supply chains and relentlessly search for environmental solutions that don't damage the planet.
70%+ of the people employed by the fashion industry are women, most of which are very poor. When women are marginalised in any economy, that economy suffers economically.

Dancoise Koechler is a strong black woman, but she will be damned if you try to give her any label that she has not already given herself. In fact labels are superfluous to her. We wade into the uses of both the "N" and "C" words. While this podcast was filmed nearly at the time of George Floyd's killing and we did not specifically address his murder, we do discuss the broader topic of how she see's the world as a black & American woman.
We hear about the beginning of The Cake Lady in Switzerland and how she ultimately had to make a big decision about her marriage so she could pursue true abundance and inner self-love.
She also explains a bit about how she had to get very "real" with money and first, unravel her unhealthy "relationship" with money. She gives several good book recommendations. I believe this segment alone will resonate with a lot of women!
We conclude with a very strong message from Dancoise on falling MADLY in LOVE with YOURSELF. That may sound like a big, soft, fluffy marshmallow idea, but I happen to agree! You can also follow Dancoise on her new platform, ROAR, The Sound of My Own Voice.

My podcast editor in Kenya, told me this was his favourite episode by far. I love to hear from men as well as women, that they are moved by the people we have on The Shot Caller Podcast. It is our aim to have a very diverse group of guests tell diverse stories because we are a very diverse world. How boring if we were all the same.
Dancoise and I had a great time taping this episode and have committed to a PART II and beyond! Thank you Sophie for suggesting Dancoise!
Please share this episode far and wide. I believe by truly talking and hearing what the black community has to say on the challenges and opportunities of creating true equality will make us so much stronger. If you love this episode as much as Nixon in Kenya, please tell us. We want to hear how you are inspired by our guests. Please also reach out to them!

John Wood (founder of A Room to Read) and his wife Amy Powell (co-founder of Toasst Wines) inspire us with their story of -#Operation Mask Lift- bringing KN95 masks to those most in need "None of us can do everything but all of us can do something!" It all started with an email from a friend in Oregon! When Amy heard that a doctor friend could only get 1 KN95 mask every 2 weeks to protect himself from Covid-19 as a paediatrician, she was incensed. She expressed her frustration to her husband John Wood- who has a history of righting the education wrongs of this world--and together they sought out to source and ship masks to the neediest hospitals in the US, UK and Canada.
In the last month, they have delivered, all via volunteers, over 250,000 masks to front line workers.
Shut Down Your Social Media & Help Those On The Frontline The question for us, as John and Amy see it, is how can we help the maximum amount of people in the shortest amount of time? Doctors, Nurses, Fire Departments, EMT's, Janitors in hospitals and more are sacrificing their lives. John and Amy's message is clear, "Go do something to help those on the frontline."
Plant and Cell based Meat Both John and Amy are actively involved in this space and we discuss a new movement called A Billion Veg out of Singapore. They have built a global community that catalyzes millions of people and businesses to do what’s right for their body, the animals and the planet. (minute 36) Amy describes them as If Yelp and Instagram had a vegan baby! John is also a big fan of a product called Happy Nuggets by OmniMeat, another very fast growing, plant based meat company, giving consumers healthier as well as tastier options.
Economic Devastation Amy points out that working and studying from home presents huge challenges to poorer communities without access to broadband or home computers/I-Pads. There aren't any quick fixes, but highlighting these challenges along with insisting that local and regional governments work to connect poorer neighbourhoods would be a good start.
History will Judge us Ultimately, John and Amy believe that "history will judge us and decide if we were worthy of the mantel of leadership." We all can truly make a difference, one mask at a time and one book at a time!

Claire Smith (@beyondinvest) is the founder of Beyond Investing, Beyond Animal, Beyond Bags and the recently launched US Vegan Climate Index and the US Vegan Climate ETF (Ticker: VEGN). Claire is a veteran in both banking and sustainable and impact investing. She founded 100 Women in Finance in Geneva in 2007 and oversaw its growth in Switzerland through till 2014, as a member of the London Board. You can also follow Claire on LinkedIn.
In today's episode, Claire and I dive right into the connection between the inhumane exploitation of animals and the twin global crises of Covid-19 and Climate Change. Claire advocates for a more holistic response to these problems and mapping the cause and effect of our current behaviour to our health and welfare in perhaps a much more direct way.
We debate and discuss the pros and cons of China's draconian response to issues such as Covid-19. However, Claire is quick to point out that no country can absolve themselves of guilt from inhumane treatment of animals as bad as China with their wet markets. We discuss the co-morbidity of COVID-19 and the chronic diseases associated with eating meat and animal products; heart disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and obesity. She references Dr. Michael Greger and his NY Times Bestseller How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease. Dr. Greger points out the 15 leading causes of death and how a plant based diet may help prevent, treat or reverse EVERY SINGLE ONE. Covid-19 shortens the time it could take to die from these diseases from someday in the future to in a few weeks! The Netflix documentary GAME CHANGERS is discussed as well.
Claire gives us a passionate explanation of why they launched the US Vegan Climate Index and the US Vegan Climate ETF (VEGN). Claire explains the role of an Index is and how it is compiled to help investors who want to avoid investing in the exploitation of animals. She tells you which industries she DOES NOT have in the index. Claire explains how they screen stocks on both animal exploitation and environmental criteria. As Mark Carney said in the above quote, the bigger risk to your portfolio is owning companies who are NOT moving towards lower carbon-emissions. Furthermore, 13,000 animals "spared" per $1 million of VEGAN invested in for one year!

“HeiQ Fresh, In one day of 6 hours of daylight in a normal standardized room, destroy up to 98% of the formaldehydes, thereby cleaning the air of toxic components, making them into fresh air components.”
https://heiq.com/2019/12/04/new-technology-in-the-heiq-fresh-range-turns-curtains-into-air-purifiers/
Your next Shot Caller story, told by Carlo Centonze, CEO HeiQ Group in Switzerland (www.heiq.com), will enlighten you on their truly cutting edge, innovative and AFFORDABLE textiles that fight air pollution and fight viruses like the CoronaVirus, but also partnering with companies like Speedo to create elite swimwear; all the while, reducing waste and pollution in the apparel production supply chain!
Carlo and his Co-founder Dr. Murray Height, created HeiQ in 2005 after a HIKE in the Swiss Alps where after a few days of intensive hike’s were told by their partners to keep a BIG distance due to the smell that wafted their way. Both Carlo and Dr. Height were graduates of ETH, one of the most prestigious science, technology, engineering and math schools in the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETH_Zurich
With a very strong ethos around sustainability, HeiQ, under the leadership of Carlo and Dr. Height, has become a global leader in textile innovation creating some of the most effective, durable and high-performance textile technologies in the market today.
In 2019, HeiQ was awarded the 2019 Swiss Environmental Award for HeiQ Clean Tech because of their solution to reduce environmental footprint of polyester dyeing by 30-40% in terms of saving 30-50% water, energy and CO2 emissions. But most importantly, reducing the cost to the manufacturers, creating an AFFORDABLE GREEN TECHNOLOGY!
In a world of fast fashion, rising global temperatures, strained clean water resources and seriously unhealthy pollution levels, the fashion industry is ripe for this type of innovative solution. The clothing and textile industry has an ecological footprint which is far from sustainable. In 2017, the industry emits 1.7 billion tonnes of CO2 annually, is responsible for extensive water use and pollution, and produces 2.1 billion tonnes of waste annually. (source: WWF, Changing Fashion, The clothing and textile industry at the brink of radical transformation, 2017) https://www.wwf.ch/sites/default/files/doc-2017-09/2017-09-WWF-Report-Changing_fashion_2017_EN.pdf
Carlo and I also discuss the gender balance or lack-there-of in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) as well as how the numbers currently break down at ETH. The last 12 hires at HeiQ have been women, but he makes it clear that their mission is to hire the best. But, he says, “That means we hire the best!” (gender not a factor)
We talk about the many “near deaths” disruptive, new technologies go through, including HeiQ. Carlo also emphasizes how important it is to have good timing in addition to a cutting edge product or solution. https://www.amazon.com/Loonshots-Nurture-Diseases-Transform-Industries/dp/1250185963
Lastly and with unbelievable great timing, he announces their newest innovation, Viroblock NPJ03 antiviral textile technology which was tested effectively against the Coronavirus!
“HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 is a unique combination of vesicle and silver technologies designed to inhibit the growth and persistence of bacteria and viruses. The HeiQ vesicle technology targets lipid-enveloped viruses (such as coronavirus) providing rapid virus deactivation, while the HeiQ silver technology inhibits the replication of both bacteria and viruses. HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 can be applied to a wide spectrum of textile surfaces including face masks, air filters, medical gowns, curtains, drapes, and more.
Besides testing on human coronavirus (229E), HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 also demonstrated dramatically improved reduction of virus infectivity against Influenza types H1N1, H5N1, H7N9, and also Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). For more information about Coronavirus, visit the CDC website. To learn more about HeiQ Viroblock, email us at info@heiq.com.”
I am truly thrilled to be able to highlight stories like Carlos and Heiq’s, both from an innovation as well as a potential future investment perspective. While they are not currently a publicly traded company, we hope to see them in the not-so-distant future enter the public markets.
Please share far and wide as the world needs to hear this story as well as be inspired to continue to carry the torch of innovators developing both profitable and purposeful companies! https://www.amazon.com/Purpose-Incorporated-Turning-Competitive-Advantage/dp/0692999639

This Shot Caller story, told by Nicola Foulston, CEO of Rosenblatt Solicitors in London, will give you a birds eye view into the life of a true business disruptor!
Do you think you are too young to disrupt a male dominated industry? Do you think you are too old to disrupt a male dominated industry? Nicola will prove you wrong on BOTH accounts.
Nicola inherited Brands Hatch race track, a beloved British motor racing circuit in Kent, England, at the age of 19 when her father died suddenly. She saw an opportunity to transform this "old boys" sporting event, focused on the experience for the racer into a smashingly successful hospitality business, focused on the experience of the consumer! One of the biggest hurdles she experienced at this time had more to do with her age than with her sex. She sold Brands Hatch 7 years later in 1997 for GBP 120m/ $150m! This huge turnaround story earned her the Veuve Clicquot Businesswoman of the Year, which she received in 1997 as CEO of Brands Hatch Leisure Group. To date, she is the youngest woman ever to have received this honor.
Nicola explains the importance of asking questions and how valuable it was to her to have John Moulton, a top British venture capitalist as her mentor.
After listing Brands Hatch and netting a few pretty pennies, Nicola retired to Switzerland to start a family. She organically ended up running a family office where she made strategic, private investments. Her first two investments happened to be founded by women. Nicola admits that having a young family and trying to run a corporation was not possible for her. She saw her opportunity to start her family after selling her business and feels that was absolutely the right decision for her.
In 2016, Nicola was enticed out of retirement by Ian Rosenblatt, the lawyer she appointed at the age of 19, early on in her Brands Hatch days. He knew if anyone could disrupt and reinvent the legal profession, it was Nicola Foulston! She used her formula of pairing the business back to nuts and bolts and understanding how it made money. It took her less than two years to do what she did with Brands Hatch, list the law firm on the London AIM stock exchange, raising GBP 43m/ $56m. Her goal, to self-fund their Litigation business, which is a very niche and profitable part of law. Rosenblatt was only the 4th Law firm to list in the UK. Nicky is unapologetically commercial and their firm has a net operating margin of 35%, which is exceptional. With their litigation fund, they can help the David's take on the Goliath's.
We talk about promoter vs. prevention questions in the venture capital fundraising world. Women get asked prevention questions and men the promoter questions.
We cover the urgent need to promote businesses finding solutions to the climate crisis and so much more. There is a link to the David Attenborough documentary trailer on Youtube.
This is one hour packed full of inspiration, insight, motivation and wisdom from a very successful and impressive woman. Please share with your network to keep the goodness moving.

Your next Shot Caller story is told by Judy Sindecuse, CEO of Capital Innovators, a top rated venture capital and accelerator fund in St. Louis, Missouri.
Judy founded Bride & Groom magazine out of necessity and created a very successful formula for investing in future businesses. Today, Judy is a top quartile rated female venture capitalist who has raised over $300 million in venture funds. Unfortunately, Judy is still the only female asset manager in St. Louis, Missouri.
Judy’s first foray into entrepreneurship came on the heels of her experience as Missouri’s Miss Teen 1982 when she started expanding the Missouri Miss Teen into local/city franchises.
She was then recruited by the engineering Dean of SMU to join their mechanical engineering school. She credits him with being ahead of his time, recruiting young women to the program. Disappointingly, by graduation, there were only 2 women left in the program having initially a 50% boy/girl ratio.
Judy went to Harvard Law School after graduating from SMU, with a view towards being a prosecutor. It was during her legal career she had her first career pivot and founded Bride and Groom Magazine.
Judy is a fantastic inspiration for any young or mature women who may have pursued a competitive career path only to find that it isn’t as fulfilling as they thought it would be.
Judy talks about her love of math and hilariously tells us she is not the type of person to “blow off a penny” when balancing her checkbook!
We discuss the importance of hearing that you can do “whatever you want” as a young girl. If you are told you can, you never stop to think you can’t! We both credit our mothers with instilling this seed in our impressionable, young minds.
She also tells a great story about how the smartest people she knows are never embarrassed to ask a question when they don't understand something.
One of the challenges that Judy encounters as a top rated venture capitalist is getting more women involved on the investing side. It is a trend she really hopes to change.
If you enjoy this podcast, reach out to Judy and tell her. Please also share with as many friends, sisters, mothers, daughters as possible to inspire them to be audacious and pursue their dreams.

Your next Story Is told by Dr. Christine Chow on the importance of role models for women in the workplace, her private investments in “impact” driven start-ups, social-responsible investing, the need for AI ethics and Donald Rumsfeld!
Christine has a distinguished professional background in shareholder engagement for responsible investing which means you get a quick master lesson on some critical points when investing for sustainability and impact. Her PhD thesis on this topic was short-listed for a United Nations award in Sweden for industry relevance and academic excellence.
Christine is a Member of the Court of Governors for the London School of Economics, an ICGN Board member, Director, Hermes Investment Management. She was recently named as one of the Top 30 Women in the City by Brummell Magazine in 2019. http://www.brummellmagazine.co.uk/people/inspirational-women-city-leaders/
In her private life, she is a dedicated dressage rider and competitor, which she only took up after the birth of her son!
What We Discuss We dive into a variety of topics, including what it was like to be an Asian woman climbing the corporate ladder in the UK and she shares some disturbing anecdotes. She tells a fantastic story about how her mom, her first role model, gave her the “space to settle into me!”
Furthermore, Christine tells us about three private "impact driven" investments in start-ups she has made which will give you real world examples to learn from. (The link to the healthcare company is below). Furthermore, She gives strategies on how we can invest both for good AND profit. We vote everyday with what we choose to spend our money on.
Wrap it up with AI and BIG DATA Christine explains what AI really means and how “data” is used and scrubbed for AI applications. This is great insight into understanding where your personal information might be “vulnerable.” She uses Donald Rumsfeld’s famous quote; “Known Known’s,” “Known Unknown’s, “ and “Unknown, Unknown’s," illustrating the potential pitfalls of your data being used by devices such as Fitbit, Facebook and the popular DNA companies.
Grab your note pad and a quiet place to enjoy the lessons from Dr. Christine Chow. She will further your goal to be more financially savvy with your investments.

This interview with Gigi is juxtaposed with the interview I did previously with her mother Shelly. Both women are entrepreneurs but were born into two dramatically different environments, yet each faced their own set of challenges and opportunities. Gigi, as a Gen Y'er, not a Millennial, has interesting insight into being in this generation "gap" and graduating from college directly into a historically devastating global recession.
She tells me about her deeply uncomfortable experiences as a young woman visiting India, having been raised in the UK. She felt like a second class citizen based on her gender while spending time in her ancestral homeland.
She is highly educated, ready and willing to take risks with her feet firmly on the ground, but admits to feeling caught between Generation Y, the slick and authenticity driven Millennials and the fast growing super tech savvy Gen Z'ers.
Shelly tells us how she was married off as a young girl in India to a young boy from London. How she went from timid and meek to strong and confident while fighting for custody of her son in both India and the UK. She enlightens us in a very positive way about her journey as an entrepreneur, starting with GBP 250 and turning that into GBP 60k in a few short months. She has another "iteration" when she decides to attend the Cordon Bleu cooking school at the age of 50 and run two restaurants based in Delhi, while she is based in London!
As the mother of a 28 year old daughter who has also decided to become an entrepreneur, she talks about the importance of female rights in India as part of a bigger cultural and economic solution for that country to be able to truly thrive into the next millennial.
I spoke to Bodil about her path starting as a young girl from Jutland, Denmark, beginning her career as a reporter in a farming community, recreating herself as a criminal reporter and eventually becoming Denmark's most legendary Royal reporter, giving an infamous interview with Prince Henrik of Denmark that caused quite a stir at the time.
In her role as the Danish Royal Reporter, she covered all the major royal events, christenings, birthdays, weddings and funerals and traveled the globe on the heels of the royal family.
Some of the highlights of her career were meeting Nelson Mandela, George H.W. Bush and Desmond Tutu. She was also in attendance at Princess Diana's funeral, which we discuss.
Bodil tells us what it was like to be a female trailblazer in the 1950's and 60's in Denmark. We hear how she ingeniously bought her first home and the subsequent one's, something very rare for women in those days. We also discuss the "me too" movement and how she was taught as a young girl by her parents that a "no, was always a no!"
