Episode 65 takes you around the league with a special look at each of the upcoming series, plus a special guest to help put a bow on some of the action from the first round. What knowledge helps Zack sleep at night? Does Tucson stand a chance at beating Coachella Valley (spoilers: they don’t)? The answers to all that and more this week.

First, the crew looks at the news recap of the week, which saw the Minnesota Wild announce that they will not renew the contracts of head coach Tim Army and assistant coaches Nate DiCasmirro and Nolan Yonkman. The announcement happened shortly after Iowa’s loss to the Rockford IceHogs in the first round of the postseason. After that, we take a spin around the rest of the league for a comprehensive look at the other series taking place. The crew recaps the action from the North, Central, and Pacific while previewing the series coming later in the second round. It’ll get you set for action in the second round as the series shift to a best-of-five. The previews include important questions to be answered when the puck drops about each team if they plan to contend for the Calder Cup.

Here lies the death of eight once-great AHL teams. Teams that came into the league with poise, dignity and a will to win…unless you’re San Diego, of course. Zack Power, Andrew Rinaldi, and Corey Swartzare your pall bearers in this sad, unfortunate and, at times, gory ride in describing the deaths of the eight.

Death, taxes, and Grand Rapids with no hope for the 2022-23 regular season. Yes, they didn’t look good to start but look on the bright side; they’re now taking resumes. Apply within.

Lizz Childjoins the podcast to give her thoughts on the Pacific Division and recaps the season for San Jose, who was tied for the final playoff spot at the end of the season.

Finally, to save on burial costs, Zack and Andrew host the funeral for the 2023-24 Chicago Wolves, with early predictions for the upcoming season.

Welcome to episode 61 of Field Pass Hockey’s American Hockey League podcast, the Holy GrAHL, where your hosts Zack Power, Corey Swartz, andAndrew Rinaldi break down the last week of March and early April. This week’s episode is no joke as although the hosts are a man down without Deana Weinheimer, there’s no shortage of hot takes starting with which defunct AHL team the crew would bring back.

The show segues into the latest news and recapping the Elite Prospects Player of the Week with the nod going to Belleville Senators goaltender Leevi Meriläinen, who earned a shutout in his first AHL game and was given a recall to the Ottawa Senators in short order.

Next up, get your controllers and whatever friendships you want to have ruined as Corey compares the Atlantic Division race to that of a game of Mario Kart. The Atlantic is more of a Rainbow Road than what you might expect, with several teams hitting banana peels and the latest blue shell upsetting the leaders of the pack, but each team is one good item box away from taking it all back.

It’s a North Division roundtable discussion as the crew breaks down the race and which club could make a surprise push to make the dance. The Laval Rocket are hot and both the Cleveland Monsters and the Belleville Senators have been not, with concerns about the leaders in Toronto despite being the first team to clinch their division.

After that, it’s time to get the party started in the Central Division as Andrew is taking you on a tour of the house party in the midwest, as he introduces you to the hosts, the VIPs, and even those who aren’t handling their liquor so well over the long party that is the AHL schedule.

Speaking of complete tours, Zack is up next with the good, the bad, and the ugly in the Pacific Division as the guys lament what could have been with a traditional playoff format as the discussion piece. Who’s a sleeper pick to make some damage in the postseason, and whose goose is cooked going into the postseason? All will be revealed.

Finally, the guys give their picks for games to watch out for and what action you can sample for no extra charge, and Corey wraps up the episode with the bonus round that sees some obscure Hershey Bears trivia. Who will emerge the victor? It comes down to the wire to cap off the episode.

Episode 46 of Field Pass Hockey’s The Holy GrAHL has Corey Swartz, Jeremy Paul, Deana Weinheimer, andZack Power bringing you the latest from inside the AHL.

First, starting with breaking news regarding a member of the New Jersey Devils organization allegedly involved with sexual assault. For more information on this developing case, please check out this article from TSN that we reference in the show.

Please note that there is talk mentioning alleged sexual assault from 9:40-14:02.

At the bottom of this post, we have included a few resources for victims in the United States and Canada.

Next, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have proved themselves to be on a roll, with a franchise record of goals in two consecutive games.

Ready for some Atlantic Division talk? Flyers Knitty Gritty writer and co-host of the American Beauties podcast, Samantha Wismer, joins us, along with FPH Charlotte Checkers writer Zachary Martin. In the first The Holy GrAHL Divisional Roundtable, wisdom on spoilers, playoff contenders, and team analysis brings a lively debate among the group.

And is something brewing for a Utica/North Division coo? Jeremy looks at the North Division and tells us who we should look out for if the standings change.

There’s a bird at the top and bottom of the standings in the Pacific Division. One had points in eight of their last 10, and the other has yet to win in eight straight games. The hosts look at a poor start for one California team.

Don’t be so blue! Zack has the bonus round… Just don’t tell him about the start time of his question for the hosts in this week’s episode.

There are only a few weeks left of hockey in 2022, and this week Andrew Rinaldi, Corey Swartz, Jeremy Paul, Deana Weinheimer, andZack Power bring you the latest from inside the American Hockey League.

Oh, Captian, My Captian. The Eagles have lost their captain in this week’s breaking news segment. Where will Jason Megna end up after over three seasons with the Eagles?

Also making headlines this week, a repeat offender has found his way into the AHL’s suspension book following a crosscheck that sent one Barracuda into the boards.

Zack Fisch joins us this week as one of our special guests. The Chocolate Town Broadcaster opened the wrapper on a memorable call that went viral and gives us a taste of the Hershey Bears this season.

Also, is that Mark Letestu? The former NHL veteran turned AHL Assistant Coach joins the podcast talking about the Cleveland Monsters and the journey to getting behind the bench.

Hartford, Bakersfield, and Chicago have begun to look like the tortuous in the Race for the Holy GrAHL. The crew breaks down a rough start to the season as teams approach the 25% mark of the season.

From poor performances to a hot streak, this week, Deana has the controls for the Bonus Round. Things went to an extra session, but has a repeat guess claimed the title?

It’s a new month, with a fresh look into this week in the American Hockey League. Join your hosts, Andrew Rinaldi, Jeremy Paul, Deana Weinheimer, andZack Power, as they break down this week in the AHL across four divisions.

Have you ever thought your team had a bad injury bug? Well, step aside for the Belleville Seantors! 11 injured players last weekend against the Rocket. We kick things off with a look into the Senators’ missing pieces.

It’s a bit sweet and definitely salty with a debate on power play vs. penalty kill. The hosts break down their takes in the swipe left or swipe right segment on exactly what piece of the special teams’ pie is more important.

Joining the podcast this week is Jalen Smereck. The Detroit-born defenseman tells us about growing the sport of hockey and gets one of the hosts to rewind the clock to a memory of his youth. If you are interested in donating to his non-profit or helping his mission in helping to spread hockey to the youth of Detroit, you can reach out to him on social media:

Later, Jeremy brings us an interesting stat about the North Division’s top team. Are things as hot as they would be if the shoe was on the other foot?

And don’t look now, but Cleveland is about to start a crucial series against the Rochester Americans following a decisive win over the Toronto Marlies. Are they able to pull it off without top-line players?

From Americans to Canadians, Zack has the controls on the bonus round…or does he? Hope you brought your Canadian hockey encyclopedias to this week’s show!
