About Jon Carder:

Jon Carder is a serial entrepreneur. He built four start-ups over the last 23 years, including successful 3 exits. Jon has raised ~$100M in venture capital and hired hundreds of employees.

That entrepreneurial lifestyle eventually took its toll and he started having challenges with low energy, brain fog, and trouble sleeping. These problems prevented Jon from consistently showing up as his best self. After talking to friends, he realized that these issues were actually pretty common.

Jon learned that through lab work he could identify the root cause of some of the problems and improve them, but that wasn’t going to happen with his conventional doctor. After a lot of searching he eventually found a functional medicine doctor, who was able to identify, through expensive blood work, that Jon had nutrient deficiencies and high toxin levels.

So, Jon adjusted his supplements, nutrition and lifestyle accordingly. And, within a month, he was feeling the best he had felt in years. This inspired Jon to start Vessel and use new technology to empower people to track and improve their wellness from home.

About Bobby Matson:

Bobby Matson is the CEO and founder of Payitoff, a venture-backed team automating every aspect of student loan repayment for fintechs and workplace providers.

A few years ago, Payitoff's founder, Bobby, and his wife were weighed down by crushing six-figure student debt, unsure if they’d ever be able to start a family or own a home.

Bobby spent nights and weekends codifying student loan regulations and building an algorithm to help his family navigate their personal student debt crisis. This technology, which in time became the core to Payitoff’s algorithm, helped him gain what every borrower seeks: a course of action for his student loan management that without a doubt would get the the best possible financial outcome for his family. Amidst the confusion and complexity of the student loan system, Bobby was able to turn chaos into certainty thanks to this algorithm. With that freedom, Bobby and his wife were empowered to start a family and move forward with their lives. (They currently have an adorable 3-year-old daughter!)

Of course, Bobby quickly realized his struggle wasn’t unique. 43 million other borrowers could benefit from the technology he developed in order to overcome the overwhelming complexity of student loan debt.

He founded Payitoff in 2018, and we’ve since built a suite of innovative tools to revolutionize student loan management, from the unique perspective of having experienced the struggle firsthand.

About Somi Arian:

Somi Arian began her journey with a passion for making science and technology more inclusive. In 2018 Somi released her multi-award-winning documentary, "The Millennial Disruption", featuring industry leaders from The Economist, Marie Claire, Bentley, JLR, and Gary Vaynerchuk, to name a few. The documentary was followed by Somi's book on the future of work, “Career Fear (and how to beat it), where she observed the severe lack of women in leadership in Business and Technology. So, she set out to do something about this.

Somi launched FemPeak as a Think Tank for Women in Business and Technology in August 2020. With her "I have a Dream" video on LinkedIn. The Think Tank consisted of four big virtual conferences with thousands of attendees and close to a hundred panellists including the Managing Director of Marie Claire, CEO of Bentley Motors, and thought leaders from Google, Microsoft and Morgan Stanley. We wanted to know why women were absent in the top tier of business and Technology.

About Ben Marcoux:

Hi, my name’s Ben, and I’m an ad-aholic. I’m a jazz saxophone player turned freelance media buyer, copywriter, and strategist.

I officially hung my shingle in 2015. And since then I’ve spent thousands of hours studying history’s (and today’s) most lucrative ads.

My copywriting’s grossed multiple 7-or 8 figures of revenue (who really knows). And I’ve profitably managed $10,000,000+ of ad spend for my own businesses and for clients, generating over 250,000 leads and hundreds of millions of dollars in sales across many verticals.

My “day job” is making business owners big bucks by creating simple scalable advertising systems, writing direct response sales copy, driving targeted traffic to high integrity offers, and using data, analytics, and relentless follow-up to maximize the ROI of these funnels.

Now I help other B2B experts effortlessly close premium clients by using “The FAME-WORK” to package their expertise into a Money Making Signature System and position themselves as the go-to authority in their market.

About Antonia Gavrihel:

Born to an entertainment family — her father a comedian and actor, her mother a big band singer — Antonia was placed in front of a camera at an early age. She loved acting yet dreamed of being a writer. Words, along with the visuals and stories they form, became her passion.

Back to One was created when she was raising a young son, building a career, and managing the everyday hurdles of life. After settling her son to sleep after work, she would write into the late hours of the night--- for an entire year. Then began the twenty-five-year search for a publishing house to bring the novel to readers everywhere. The first summer of Covid-19 provided that serendipitous event.

Away from writing and occasionally acting, she is a law professor and an enrolled agent/master tax advisor.

Her second novel in the Back to One series continuing Cate and Kyle’s adventures will be released next October 2022.

About the Guest:

Mike Williams is the Founder of BuildLab, a digital development and automation studio. Mike has founded two event ticketing companies, MJ Seats and SharpSeat. MJ Seats was listed in the Inc. 5000list of fastest-growing US companies in 2017 and 2018, finding itself in the top 1000 both years.

His success with MJ Seats was due in part to automating processes and developing custom technology that created a competitive edge in an otherwise commoditized industry. Upon realizing the powerful leverage that technology can provide a growing business, he became focused on his latest company, BuildLab, a company dedicated to delivering automation, application, and web development services with or without code.

After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Finance and Computer Information Systems, Mike landed a solid job but always felt the urge to have more skin in the game. He founded his first company with two college friends.

Currently, at BuildLab, Mike uses tools like Integromat, Zapier, Airtable, HubSpot, Firebase, and many more to help automate and scale companies. His clients range from local businesses to billion dollar companies.

Mike is a productivity snob and is constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency for both internal and client processes. He considers time the ultimate resource.

71: In What Sales Leaders Get Wrong, Chris Beall, CEO of ConnectAndSell, joins host William Glass to discuss the common misconceptions in the sales profession. Chris shares the Tragedy of the Crossroads that has plagued the sales profession for centuries. He explains how to sell and the importance of executives as salespeople in business to business sales. We discuss the intersection of humans and machines and how best to enable each to do what they do best.

Chris Beall

For most of the past 30 years, Chris Beall has participated in software startups as a founder or at a very early stage of development. His focus has consistently been on creating and taking to market simple products that can be used successfully the first time they are touched, without having to take a course or read a manual.

His belief is that the most powerful part of any software system is the human being that we inappropriately call a “user,” and that the value key in software is to let the computer do what it does well — go fast without getting bored — in order to free up human potential.

Toward that end, Chris has been involved with Requisite Technology, GXS, Epiance, Qlip Media, Aptara, Cadis, Sun Microsystems, and Unisyn. He is currently CEO of ConnectAndSell, Inc., based in Silicon Valley.

About Axel Meierhoefer:

Chander is wide-open about both his successes and failures. There are some doozies from terrible losses on international shipments to nefarious hackers.

Chander Arora is the Founder & CEO of Red Eye Louie’s a liquor brand with a number of unique spirits in its arsenal. Chander is an international expert in the spirits industry with 20+ years of experience. Chander started the company in 2011 by helping his daughter, Nina Arora, with her college project by creating the company's first product Vodquila (a crafted blend of Vodka and Tequila.) Chander turned his daughter's college assignment into an international spirits business. With his knowledge of chemistry, he is able to create all the formulas and recipes for each blend.

Prior to starting Red Eye Louie’s, Chander came to the US from India while on business where he met the love of his life. As a self-starter and determined to make the American dream a reality he began buying and selling businesses that ranged from laundromats, convenience stores, real estate, and even truck stops.

NOTE: For full transparency, it just so happens that Red Eye Louie’s recently opened up an equity crowdfunding round. I did purchase a small number of shares in Red Eye Louie’s but regardless I’ve been wanting to tell the Red Eye Louie's story for a while now.

49: In Empowering the Gift of Giving, host William Glass sits down with Kelly Keurzoneff, founder of Givelist. Kelly discusses the importance of social impact and how we can better support our fellow humans especially in times of need. She discusses the challenges of being a solo-founder (the loneliness) and how to continue to build your business without a co-founder. In addition, Kelly shares the founding story of Givelist and how consumers today care more about the social impact the companies they support have on the world.

There were some differences between mine and Kelly's volume that we’ve adjusted as best we can in post-production. For the best experience, we recommend watching this episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/qeSikTC04b0.

About Kelly Keurzoneff

Kelly Keurzoneff is the founder of Givelist® and the owner of a marketing consulting business. She grew up in Indiana, went to college in North Carolina, then spent 10 years in Los Angeles learning everything marketing and advertising. In Los Angeles, Kelly worked for media and tech companies, two of which were startups. It was her time at Hulu, though, that was most formative and inspiring, and which she credits for launching her more serious interest in entrepreneurial endeavors.

Kelly is a first-time founder looking to encourage giving, foster kindness, and build social capital by creating a tool that makes gift-giving a fun and frictionless experience.

Givelist® is a universal wish list, an all-purpose online gift registry, allowing users to connect & contribute to one another’s lives simply & easily. It also provides a vehicle for more direct and transparent giving of items to those in need or non-profit organizations. Great for both consumers and retailers, it has the added benefit of reducing waste and returns, which otherwise accounts for billions of dollars in unusable/unsellable goods.More at https://www.givelist.com

48: Competing When There's Nothing to Lose, host William Glass sits down with Tom Libelt, founder of Smart Brand Marketing. Tom dives into the concept of building an antifragile business that not only survives during uncertain times but thrives. He also gets into the benefits of being lazy and spending more time thinking versus spending all of your time hustling. One example of that approach is him sitting down on the podcast today. In addition, Tom opens up about the power of niches and how finding a small group of motivated customers is one of the best ways to build a business.

The notion of building an antifragile business comes from Nassim Taleb a famous writer who specialized in risk analysis.

About Tom Libelt

Tom Libelt learned from a young age how to sell and negotiate business by getting haggled by Russian vendors. His family moved from Poland to the US to escape communism, and his parents took any job they could to survive. Seeing all this as a young man motivated him to never want a job and keep moving forward as an entrepreneur, publisher, salesman, and one of the top Polish hip hop artists.

Tom spends most of his time in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He runs Smart Brand Marketing and We Market Online Courses. He has helped published around 5000 Kindle books, built a successful SEO & online course marketing business, partnered with a Muay Thai champion, owned a coffee shop, a retail store, a record label, created a documentary, and released two albums with five hits on top ten Polish radio. All of it was bootstrapped and done with zero outside funding.

46: The Art of Productive Screen Time, host William Glass sits down with Laura Page-Hamelin & Graeme McKay, co-founders of Artebula. Together they discuss the power of creativity and how promoting creative children lead to future innovators. From there we explore the challenges facing parents and children with the current content platforms and how Artebula is focused on promoting productive screen time by combining technology, art, and science.

You’ll also learn the challenges and benefits of going from solopreneur to teampreneur and how to effectively work as a team across multiple continents.

Laura Page-Hamelin is a passionate businesswoman and entrepreneur. Laura worked in the corporate world as a marketer but felt most comfortable being an entrepreneur. When her fourth child was born with a rare auto-immune disorder she decided to stay home permanently and to fund this choice she used her digital marketing talents to found a successful, boutique digital marketing agency, Social Jibber Jabber. In 2018, Laura identified a pain point in the children’s art and education market and with a five thousand dollar government grant began the foundations for what would later become Artebula Inc.

Graeme McKay is the technology lead at Artebula and brings significant experience in both healthcare informatics and finance product design and development. Graeme has worked with innovative start-up companies including eFilm and Radimetrics, as well as industry leaders Bayer Healthcare and JP Morgan Chase. Graeme holds a Bachelor's degree in Applied Computing from the University of Strathclyde as well as being a certified Scrum Product Owner.

45: Developing the Perfect Product: How to Build a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), host William Glass sits down with Ned Lomigora, Serial Tech Entrepreneur & Founder of Cape Ann Tech to discuss the illustrious MVP. In today’s episode, Ned walks us through how to develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), the common pitfalls, and why it is so crucial when developing a new product. We spend the last 20 minutes really diving deep into personal finance and some of the challenges with income inequality that face both individuals and the American Democracy.

Ned Lomigora is a serial entrepreneur who discovered his love for startups while developing Auto ID RFID technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His work there had a direct correlation with the creation of RFID technology that was later adopted by Electronic Product Code as a global standard.

After a stint at several software companies, in increasing levels of responsibility, Ned co-founded his first startup in the computational biotech space with generous funding from the company he was working for at the time. After a successful exit, Ned took on a co-founder and CEO role of another startup in the publishing industry. After a successful exit out of that venture, Ned was asked to run a company in the biotech equipment space.

After several years in that role, Ned felt a strong pull back to his software roots, and so he started his current company, Cape Ann Tech. The impetus that started Cape Ann Tech was Ned’s frustration with the overly transactional nature of outsourced software development services business. Cape Ann Tech provides exceptional quality software, with a mission to develop long term partnerships with all its clients. Cape Ann Tech clients range from Fortune 500 companies to startups.

In episode 19 of the Silicon Alley Podcast, Nine Figure Exit to Living Your Best Life features William Moore Founder of Doorstep Delivery, Moore Momentum, and Rollins Rentals. Will discusses how being a misfit as a kid led him to develop an entrepreneurial mindset which led him to start a successful student rental business out of college. During the mid-2000s real estate boom, Will quit a lucrative sales job to start Doorstep Delivery. Ultimately the company sold for $330 Million in 2019.

Now, Will is taking all of the lessons he learned over the past 25+ years into his new business Moore Momentum. A book and app that focuses on helping people live their best lives. There are 5 cores that Will discusses as being the key to living your best life - mindset, career & finances, relationships, physical health, and emotional health & giving back.

Will's Official Bio:

Will Moore graduated with honors from Rollins College. Soon after he created Rollins Rentals with another fellow alumnus - Jay Gaiser - focused on providing quality off-campus college-friendly homes to students from his alma mater.

Next came Doorstep Delivery, a restaurant delivery service comparable to Grub Hub or Door Dash. DD quickly became the largest RDS in the South East with 19 branches.

Whether it's real estate, restaurant delivery, or one of the other ventures he's helped pioneer, Will has always had an uncanny knack for capitalizing on trends before they happen. And his newest venture is no exception. He is tapping into the current momentum of the up-and-coming generation finally realizing that there’s no shame in wanting to be their best selves.

But this isn’t as much a business venture as it is a movement. His purpose: Help others become the best version of THEMselves so they can pay it forward to help the world become the best version of ITself.

As a successful business entrepreneur, Will has discovered that a person's career & finances are just 1/5th of the equation. REAL HAPPINESS involves "firing on all cylinders" in the FIVE CORE areas of your life.

About the Book - It's Poker, Not Chess - https://amzn.to/3bof97h

Have you ever heard business being compared to a game of chess? If you're a leader in any sector, you know business today feels more like a chaotic game of poker--one where you can't see all the cards and you're sure some opponents have an ace up their sleeve.

This book shows you how to use Scrum to create a winning hand from the cards you've been dealt. From a Scrum strategist and educator with years of experience across a variety of sectors, you'll learn how to complete more work in less time while delivering better value to clients. By assembling the right team, creating the right ecosystem, learning to avoid the clutches of Frankenscrum, working with a Backlog and Sprints, and by using the rest of the Scrum Framework, you may just find yourself playing a whole new game at your business--one that helps you respond to a quickly changing business landscape and poises you to win.
