Teach For Uzbekistan (Teach for All) is getting ready to send the trained Fellows of the 2025 cohort to various schools to bring newness after the extensive training in the Summer Institute 2025, taking place from July 2025 to August 2025. Global Schools Program is part of the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). This initiative supports teachers in integrating the SDGs into school education. Parveen Kumar (currently in Uzbekistan) is a mentor, and that is how Learning Radio is part of this cohort of wonderful Advocates and Mentors. In the 2025 Cohort, there are around 350 advocates from 90 countries.

What is CULTURE? > It is what we do, how we think, we dress and we cook. It can also be something we design, paint or construct. Some can say that culture is something made by our beliefs, religion and language.
So, we understand that Culture is actually all that we know, as mentioned in the above lines about 'What is Culture?'.
This module helps us to learn Cross-Cultural Communication Skills.
When a Head of the Country, a CEO or even a smart tourist goes to another country, the first thing that is done is to know about the culture of that country. Imagine, to say " I am Parveen" I point to my nose to point towards me; Americans will point towards their chest to say the same. Listening is most rightly considered a forgotten art. With the advent of technology and learning advancements, we have set ourselves away from this required skill. There are occasions that make us realise that we have been mistaken in ignoring Listening as a part of our Communication.
- Relational/People-oriented listeners are concerned about the needs and feelings of others and may get distracted from a specific task or the content of a message in order to address feelings.
- Analytic/Action-oriented listeners prefer well-organized, precise, and accurate information. They can become frustrated if they perceive communication to be unorganized or inconsistent, or a speaker to be “long-winded.”
- Critical/Content-oriented listeners are analytic and enjoy processing complex messages. They like in-depth information and like to learn about multiple sides of a topic or hear multiple perspectives on an issue. Their thoroughness can be difficult to manage if there are time constraints.
- Task/Time-oriented listeners are concerned with completing tasks and achieving goals. They do not like information perceived as irrelevant and like to stick to a timeline. They may cut people off and make quick decisions (taking shortcuts or cutting corners) when they think they have enough information.

Listening is most rightly considered a forgotten art. With the advent of technology and learning advancements, we have set ourselves away from this required skill. There are occasions that make us realise that we have been mistaken in ignoring Listening as a part of our Communication.
Listening is Hearing with Comprehension. Without understanding the retention will remain useless. We know this. However, we do not utilise this. We do not pay attention to the efforts done by a communicator and as a communicator, we do not make efforts to make our message comprehensible.
We have people around us and we listen to a great deal of language. A variety of texts and speeches reach us from all sides. Apart from humans, we have print and electronic mediums to facilitate the journey of language to us. There are scripts, sounds, accents, stress and intonation patterns, connotations intentions and intuitions in the communication we do through ‘Listening’.
Listening has been defined as the "thoughtful attention one pays to what is heard". It explains much of what Listening should be. We hear sounds and make meaning out of them and curate a response, quick or delayed, but for sure we respond. If the sounds don't mean anything or we don't see them as part of the 'interaction' we ignore them, and refuse to react, even though we hear the sounds. Listening is the Primary Skill that makes us sensible humans. It is not wrong to say that We have turned civilised because we can give 'thoughtful attention' to what was said by the thinkers and changemakers.

This Episode of feedback from IFS Batch 2023-24 takes us to 100 episodes on this Learning Radio Podcast Channel. More than half of these are by IFS Amity Tashkent. We shall start with the New IFS Batch as well - SOON as they are there as well!
The Journeys are always worth remembering and learning from! I recall the landing on 16 September 2022 and reaching the Amity Tashkent campus. I also remember the selection interview/interaction when I committed to delivering innovative ways of teaching-learning. Podcasting and Blogging were mentioned as the primary things I would use at Tashkent for teaching English

The Lost Child is the story of a small child who gets lost in a fair or an exhibition. He had gone with his parents to the fair but loses them when he gets fascinated by looking at a roundabout swing. The story highlights the bond of love and affection that the child shares with his parents. Before losing them, he had been demanding different things like sweets, balloons, flowers, swings, etc. Once he loses them, he is picked up by a stranger. The stranger tries to silence the child by offering him all these things that he had demanded from his parents, but the child does not want them anymore. He wants his parents first.

The main character, Matilde Loisel, Matilde is unhappy with her life, due to her social and financial status. She believes that she is in the wrong place and wishes for more. She fantasizes the world of wealthy people and her longing for high society life haunts her all the time. Unlike his wife, Monsieur Loisel doesn’t daydream. The night at the ball turns out to be the best night of her life. Even though that night turns her life upside down for the next ten years, she believes she is in the right place. Yet, she only looks like those people without being one of them. After losing the necklace, she decides to withhold the information about the loss from its owner. This lie then becomes the main reason for her problems. Matilde who tried so hard to appear wealthy and respected lost her good looks completely when reality hit her. By the end of the story, she meets Madame Forestier, who had lent her the necklace. From the conversation, she learns that the diamonds were fake.

The lady moved from one house to another, but she could not find a single house where no one had lost a child, husband, parents, or friend.Then she came to know that death is common to all and is the ultimate truth.

He is an environmental consultant and freelance author. He has written more than 300 articles in journals, magazines and newspapers, and 22 books. He is the author of travel books like The Global Casino, Surviving Extremes, Extremes along the Silk Road, Atlas of Countries that do not Exist, etc. He popularises geography, environmental science and travel through his writing, public speaking and as a television presenter. He has filmed a series of television programmes for Channel 4 and National Geographic Channel.The Silk Road is a terrestrial trade route connecting the East and the West. It hasbeen used since the ancient times by European traders who came in search of Asian silk and other goods. Nick Middleton takes us along this Silk Road and hence the extract has been titled “Silk Road”.

The lesson "Reach for the Top", Talks in detail about the success stories of two women from different walks of life. Part one talks about Santosh Yadav, a mountaineer, who is the first Indian woman to scale Mount Everest twice. Her story inspires all young girls to chase their dreams. Hailing from a village with conservative ideas, which did not believe in education for girls, Santosh was rebellious enough to get herself educated. She went to college and stayed away from her house, which was a brave thing to do on those days. She found her passion later in life but developed her skills and went on to become the best.
This shows that one can discover their passion at any point in life, but they just need enough determination to pursue it. If one has the right kind of skills, then no one can stop them from becoming a pro.
This is very similar to the case of Maria Sharapova, a Russian tennis player. Her life teaches that no matter what other people say or treat you like, the answer should be one's own success. She struggled from a very young age with no attention from her parents and harsh treatment from other pupils. But she clearly focussed on the vision and proved herself.

The lesson "The Beggar" was written by Anton Chekhov. The story opens with a beggar named Lushkoff was begging alms to an advocate named Sergei. The beggar said that he was a school teacher who had lost his job by a conspiracy of his colleagues. While seeing the beggar's appearance, Sergei remembered that he had seen him previously at Savodiya street, claiming that he was a student who was expelled from school. Sergei became angry after hearing his lies and told him that he would call the cop. Then Lushkoff admitted that he had told the lies, and he was a member of a Russian choir and was expelled out due to his drunkenness. After hearing the truth, Sergei asked him whether he would like to chop wood for him. Then Lushkoff accepted the offer and went along with Sergei. Sergei asked his cook Olga to make the beggar chop wood. The beggar was unable to chop the wood because of the overconsumption of vodka. After some time, Olga informed Sergei that he had chopped all the wood. Lushkoff was paid after his job. Later, Sergei decided to shift his house. He asked Lushkoff to help him in packing the furniture. After that, he offered him some work in his friend's company. Two years later, Sergei met Lushkoff outside the theatre. Sergei felt happy on seeing his changes. Lushkoff said that he was changed because of the kind words and good deeds of the cook Olga.
“Madam Rides the Bus” is about a brave eight-year-old who had a strong desire and along with it, the courage to fulfil it. She liked gazing at the hustle and bustle of the street and her favourite part was the sight of a bus arriving and departing. Thus, she developed a deep desire to travel by bus. For that, she needed all sorts of information about the bus journey, collect the bus fare and then plan it so that she could be back at home before her mother woke up from her afternoon nap. Thus, the story brings us the recounts of how innocently but responsibly she fulfilled her deepest desire and her experiences on the bus ride. How an incident makes her realize the reality of death.Vallikannan is the pseudonym of R. S. The poet makes the reader aware of the fact that trees are being ignored and have been pushed out of priority. The poem highlights the fact that trees are living things. He equates trees with humans to convey that trees should not be cut because destroying trees is just like killing a human being. A tree does not die merely by cutting because it regrows from where it is cut. If it has to be destroyed, then it has to be uprooted.

English Language proficiency: Parts of Speech in English Grammar
Language comes before Grammar!
Grammar is an attempt to describe a language. Hence, the language stands supreme and we as subordinates depend on the grammar of the language to access its virtues and mysticism. To Master the English Language, we need to understand how it works and what makes it work.
Don't live under the impression that you have understood Parts of Speech and no longer need a look back to the concept. Mastering them means mastering the language; that is tough to declare!
As each language has its own alphabet, it also has its own grammar. For English, all the words we see are divided into nine classes or categories. These classes are called Parts of Speech. The dictionaries we use always mention the category of the word and tell us if a word is used in multiple categories of the Parts of Speech.
Knowing the grammar of a language will not enable fluency in your speaking or writing, but it helps. Knowing the functions of the elements of language (i.e. words) helps us in their appropriate and accurate use.
This preamble is necessary so as to make us read the definitions and explanations as a new thing; devoid of the stereotyping that happened to us at schools.
