This is the first episode in a series of ten, designed to provide simple quick tips for new comedians to appear more professional.
As a comedy show producer and entertainment booker I watch a lot of performers of all skill levels and experience. One of the first things I look for when a performer takes the stage and approaches the microphone is to see what they do with the microphone stand. Do they use? Do they stash it away? Or neither?
If the performer takes the microphone out of the stand and doesn’t stash the stand away, then that often times is an indication that the comedian is an amateur.

Richy Leis has been producing and performing in comedy shows for 18 years. Richy is the Creative Director for Comic Cure producing shows in the Los Angeles area with some of the best names in comedy such as Dana Carvey (SNL), Craig Robinson (The Office), Whitney Cummings (Chelsea Lately), David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy) and many more. His résumé includes booking 50 comedy shows per week with 12,000 talent spots per year for one of the biggest comedy clubs in the Los Angeles area.
As seen on MTV, VH1, TMZ and more, Richy has worked with some of the biggest names in the business such as Dana Carvey (SNL), Jeff Garlin (The Goldbergs), Kate Walsh (ER), Mary Lynn Rajskub (24), David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy), & Craig Robinson (The Office). Richy has created a unique style of comedy that allows each performance to be wonderfully memorable.
