We go with Emily to the coast of County Kerry, where a lonely fisherman, Dick Fitzgerald, finds a young and beautiful Merrow washed up on the beach, and resolves to marry her. Muireann, for that is her name, plots her escape as soon as she is carried across the threshold of Dick's cottage, and after some years and two children, she gets her chance.

Stephen takes us within walking distance of the museum to the area formerly known as Oxmantown, but which is now Stoneybatter, a very cool neighbourhood in Dublin. It was once the haunt of the notorious thief Scauld'brother, who used every chance he could to laugh at the police and the people he stole from - especially by pretending to be hanged - before hiding his loot in the tunnels underneath Dublin City.

We hear tales of illegal Mass and how the cemetery got its name, its popularity amongst resurrection men or bodysnatchers, and how the restoration of Friar's Bush was placed in the hands of 17 year old volunteers from the city.

She is best known as the narrator of the medieval Irish poem "The Lament of the Hag of Beara", in which she bitterly laments the passing of her youth and her decrepit old age. Emily brings us on a museum field trip to the Cave of Cats in Rathcroghan, County Roscommon, which was believed to be a gateway to the Otherworld in ancient Ireland. (So naturally we paid a visit.) Emily tells the story of Bricriu's Feast, featuring stars of the Ulster Cycle including Queen Medb, Cuchulainn, and a pot-stirring dinner party host who asks the Red Branch Knights present who is the greatest hero at the table. Given the size of the male egos at the feast, it takes a while to sort out.

It is now the headquarters of the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Irish health service. Dr Steevens himself was an eminent physician, and his sister Grizelda... Well, she had a rather unfortunate nickname around the city - The Pig-Faced Woman of Dublin. Emily tells us her story.

One of Deirdre's favourite places in Dublin is the Hellfire Club - an getaway for young men in the Hellfire Club secret society in the 18th century to gamble, drink, and celebrate Lucifer, nestled in the Dublin Mountains.
