It's been a minute since "Your Forever DJ" came through with another mix but I have to say in more than one way this summer and music has been Basic. Typically, there's some flavor, some spices, some juices, and herbs, to add love to the summer rhythm but servings have been bland. Plain like a pizza with no toppings, music has been boring. Dry and stale, light and pale, all summer I've been searching for something to soothe my palate.. So, this mix is my effort to add a sprinkle, a spark, or a slight jolt to your taste buds. A snack until I can cook up a meal that will satisfy your appetite as well as mine. Until then, try your best to enjoy this Basic ... With No Seasoning dish. Or Not!!! LOL!!

For those of you who don't know, Monet Tejada is a character Mary J. Blige plays on the show GHOST, created and executive produced by rapper and Hip Hop mogul 50 Cent. Mary's character is a strong drug queen pin whose hardcore and ruthless in her journey to gain and maintain power in the drug game.
Mary J. Blige the singer/songstress is not that much different from the character she plays on GHOST. Mary's music is strong, soulful, inspirational and moving. Mary has always had a way of connecting with her audience in the way that feels as if she is going through the exact same struggles as her fans. What make Mary such an incredible artist is her vulnerability and her transparency. Mary wasn't just your average superstar ... she showed us she is human. Her story of pain and struggle resonated with the people and she became a queen because of her honesty in her songs. Real recognize real. Mary has the gift of blending R&B & Hip Hop perfectly grabbing the attention of both male and female fans. Her hardcore and creative approach in her music led to her ability to play characters like Monet Tejada with ease.
Mary J Blige is a gift to music and Hip Hop as a culture, Therefore, I salute her with a mix of some of her dopest remixes old and new. Respect to the Queen of Hip Hop and Soul ... Ms. Mary J. Blige aka Monet Tejada.

HIP HOP is so multifaceted that it has a number of sub -genres and one of my favorite sub-genres was the BACKPACK RAPPER. Producers & artist known for carrying classic vinyls in a book bag on their way back from the record shop. Keeping the records they selected low key so no one steals the samples they were about to chop up and create the beat they were going to lookup. Meanwhile, MC's were creating the perfect meal plan of lyricism to serve over those prime beats. So this one goes out to you lovers of BACKPACK RAP.
