Due to weight restrictions we needed to get some beers drunk! So here are 3 new entries to the ranking of lagers.
Interview from the BrewAsia Media Booth with Germaine Clerx, International Sales Manager for Blefa. We talked about how they produce 1.7m kegs a year, which are sold in every country from A-Z. They're accredited to 4 ISO Standards and have industry leading welding technology. Germaine also kept us plied with Pilsner throughout the 2 days for which we are eternally grateful.
Interview from the BrewAsia Media Booth with Leon & Liz, Co-owners & brewers from Tenggara Brewing Co in Indonesia. They are home brewers, turned contract brewers who after a lengthy 2 year process were finally able to produce their first beers in February 2024. This is a really good chat that covers the difficulties of brewing in Indonesia as well as the close community they've found themselves among.
Interview from the BrewAsia Media Booth with Paul Jones, Co-founder of Cloudwater Brew Co in Manchester, UK. This was a really thoughtful wide ranging conversation that delved into the depths of the industry. If you've only got time for one of these interviews I would make it this one. Paul was one of the key note speakers at BrewAsia & we were privileged to have him join us.
Interview from the BrewAsia Media Booth with George Wade, Co-Founder & COO of Zevero. We discussed their Carbon Management solutions, how it helps the brewing industry & the planet as well as talking about how employees get to work can impact your carbon footprint. If that sounds dry, don't worry it isn't! It's a really good chat with an engaging guest who is passionate about what he does.

In this interview we discuss the range of fruit purees offered by Les Vergers Boiron, their application in brewing & collaborations with Singaporean brewers.
Bret is going to be in Melbourne next week at La Sirene to launch a collaboration brew. Details can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/eustralis.food/p/DAf2z36tMB6/?img_index=1

BrewAsia Day 1 - 3 interviews, lots of beers, lots of chat, lots of promise for tomorrow.
Interview from the BrewAsia Media Booth with Stanley Boots, Chairman of 7 Bridges Brewing in Vietnam. We discussed 7 Bridges' Zero Waste efforts, upcoming rebrand & embracing the chaos of alternative revenue streams.
Interview from the BrewAsia Media Booth with Don Viteri, now CEO of Rooster Beer from Vietnam. Don joins us to discuss his new role, what Rooster has beer up to since we last spoke & discusses the latest season of The Bear - amongst other things.
Interview from the BrewAsia Media Booth with Will Julius, Managing Director of Lion Brewery Co in Singapore. It’s a really enjoyable conversation where we discuss everything from brewing in and exporting to multiple countries as well as the possibility of a Durian beer.
Welcome back to the Beer O'Clock podcast & for once it hasn't been a long time between drinks! If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! This episode we interrupt regular (or is that irregular...) programing to bring you an interview with Charles Guerrier of Brew Asia. Brew Asia is celebrating their 10th Anniversary in Singapore in October this year & Beer O'Clock Australia will once again be on the ground. If you would like to join us, you can still register for the conference and find out all the details at: https://www.brew-asia.com/

Welcome back to the Beer O'Clock podcast, it's been a long, long time between drinks! It feels like every month I'm apologizing for how hectic it's been around here - but maybe that is just the new normal... With any luck this is the first of a few episodes that we get out roughly a month or so apart.
If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar. This episode we cover, in true Beer O'Clock fashion, plenty of (very, very) outdated news, add two lagers to our master list & crack a cellar offering.

For a multitude of reasons it got delayed until we managed to catchup over Zoom this week. In this chat we cover a wide range of topics from sustainability & recycling, staff injuries, Bright's evolving position in the market through 15 years of operation, COVID's impact on the business & so much more. I hope those of you who have been able to get to Melbourne have enjoyed the triumphant return of Good Beer Week. We've got a special interview for you today with one of the country's up and coming breweries, that many of you outside the Gold Coast will never have heard of; Madocke. Special thanks to Dylan for conducting this interview in my absence & to Annelies for giving up some of her evening to have a chat.
Her story (& husband Jimmy's) from Belgium to one of the most unusual breweries you've seen to a soon to open brewery & taproom in Ashmore is one of the most unique in an industry where stories often seem to be cut from the same cloth. With the opening of their new facility I think people beyond the Gold Coast will soon be hearing a log more about these fantastic people making wonderful beer!

Dylan, myself & a few like minded individuals are doing a 24 hour video game stream over the 1st & 2nd of May to raise money for Berry Street, a charity that does wonderful work with Australia's young & vulnerable. We would love for you to join us on the day over at https://www.twitch.tv/totallyrealrobot & to donate to a great cause at https://www.mycause.com.au/page/249300/peak-performance-2021. Thanks for the indulgence guys, I really hope you've enjoyed the episode.
This episode is very much a classic Beer O'Clock Australia Podcast; it's late, it's long, there's minor technical difficulties (hopefully not too noticeable) & it's pretty good (if we do say so ourselves!). There's a whole heap of very outdated news, we discuss the Hottest 100 results & talk about some new beers & breweries we've visited, what a joy being able to do that again! Due to being a bit time poor we remotely add just one lager to our Ranking of Lagers segment. Hope you enjoy!

This episode is very much a classic Beer O'Clock Australia Podcast; it's late, it's long & it's pretty good (if we do say so ourselves!). There's a whole heap of outdated news that we get our teeth stuck into, we talk about finally being able to get back to beer events as well as some of the great new beers available last month. Finally we finish off by clearing some beers out of my fridge that have been there since early-March, by adding 3 beers to our Ranking of Lagers & also cracking a cellar beer. Hope you enjoy!

Melbourne is back in COVID-19 lockdown & so is the Beer O'Clock Australia Podcast. Hopefully the podcast brings you more joy than lockdown... Hope everyone out there is coping with the constantly evolving situation we all find ourselves in. We've got a bumper episode for you all this week!
If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar.
This month there was a heap of news to get through, highlighted (lowlighted?) by the recent mainstream coverage of Blackhearts & Sparrows decision to stop stopping Colonial Brewing beers because of the connotations of the name. We feature our first ever interview on the podcast, with Dan Taranto from The Otter's Promise talking about the impact of COVID-19 on his business. We also managed to slot a Ukrainian lager into the Ranking of Lagers as well as discussing Range Brewing at length. Hope you all enjoy!

Welcome to another episode of the Beer O'Clock Australia podcast. It's our first podcast that we've done remotely, so apologies if there are a few teething issues- although Dylan's done a really good job of editing as usual & we're happy with the results. We'll fine tune the process over the next couple of episodes while we keep trying to bring you content whilst still confined to our respective houses.

This month we covered the latest COVID-19 beer related news as well as some news from before the world changed irrevocably. We discussed our work trip to the Gold Coast, which involved a lot of beers after the actual work got done, talked about some local new beers & added a new beer to our Ranking of Macro Lagers. We finish off with a Cellar segment with a twist, as we obviously couldn't be in the same room to share a beer.

What a difference a month makes! We recorded this episode in late February when the novel coronavirus COVID-19 was just starting to enter the consciousness. This month we reverted to form. We covered the news (pre COVID-19), we discussed a couple of cracking new Victorian beer releases as well as our impending trip to the Gold Coast (which will be covered on the next episode). We added 3 more beers to our ranking of lagers, it's quite long this month after some debates were entered, as well as our Desert Island 6-pack reappearing in the form of beers released in 2019. As usual we finish of with a bottle from my cellar. Hope you enjoy the episode!

There we have it guys, hopefully you enjoyed our analysis of the Hottest 100 beers of 2019. As discussed in the podcast it's a poll that gets unfairly derided from certain sections of the craft beer community. I think it has plenty of merit, as it provides a good snapshot of what people outside the tiny inner bubble are enjoying.

The new venture I was being very vague about in my post a few days ago was Beer O'Clock Australia's first foray into a new medium; audio. Dylan & I are going to give this podcast a go for a while and see how it goes. It's going to give us the opportunity to discuss beer in a way that the blog doesn't really allow us to.
We're going to rotate some segments in and out, especially early on while we get into the swing of things - so if there is anything you love or hate, please let us know! The idea at the moment is that the podcast will be monthly, and we'll try and keep that pretty regular - at least more so than I've kept the blog up to date recently... Basically every month we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar.
This month we also discuss the hottest new style in craft beer; the Brut IPA. We also speak about a bright green licorice flavoured Gose from Red Button Brew in Moscow & discuss which Pilsner's we would each take in a bottomless mixed 6-pack to a desert island. The show is embedded below & hopefully we'll have it up on a few more podcast sites in the near future.
