Jamilah is a Philadelphia-based educator and children’s book author with a Masters in Education. A curriculum writer and former English teacher, she has educated children and teens in traditional and alternative learning settings for 15 years. As an inaugural AMAL fellow with the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative (MuslimARC), she developed foundational curricular frameworks for youth and adult anti-racist programming. Her picture books and short stories, which feature young Black and Muslim protagonists, have been recognized as the best in children’s literature by Time Magazine, Read Across America, and NPR. These works include Mommy’s Khimar, Once Upon an Eid (anthology contributor), and Your Name is a Song, as well as soon-to-be-released books: Abdul’s Story and Hold Them Close.

How does the work we do in our day to day work impact others today and for generations to come? Join the conversation with Asma Bibi CEO of Hijabi Pop. Asma Bibi found her passion for fashion at a young age. While Asma was growing up in Philadelphia, a city largely populated with American Muslims, her parents operated a clothing business and her mother taught her the basics of garment making. From there Asma taught herself more advanced skills aided by online tutorials and YouTube. Asma’s motivation for designing a fashion line stemmed from the gap she noticed in the fashion market for modern and modest clothing that appealed to young Muslim women. In 2017, Asma launched her brand Hijabi Pop with the mission of creating modest yet trendy outfits for millennial Muslim females. In 2018, the designer showed her collection at the Fall 2018 Hijab Fest, the CLF Conference in Atlanta, and New York Fashion Week. In the future, Asma’s mission is to take her modest-wear line mainstream as a modest luxury brand. She takes pride in her determination and identity as an African-American Muslim woman.

We sit down this week to talk to Lina Mohammed who’s passions for activism and the justice system have grown exponentially in the last two years. Her focus is on mainstream media and its generally prejudiced portrayal of minority groups such as African-Americans, women, and Muslims. Her goal is to deconstruct stereotypes of Muslims through interfaith work with Christians and Jews. It is important for folks to raise their voices and amplify others’.
Lina interned at MPAC, Arab American Association, ACCESS, and CAIR to realize her goal and create interfaith programs by bringing in Faith leaders from all 3 abrahamic faiths. Last year Lina attended her first ever Guild of America banquet and spoke about the importance of learning from each other and creating safe spaces. She is currently working on a project about Muslim women in America and her senior thesis examines strategies to combat gender-based violence in refugee communities.
Lina aspires to become an actress to portray Muslim women in a more positive light, contrary to stereotypes and pre-conceived notions. She also aims to establish a mobile platform to report ethically on issues affecting marginalized individuals and communities.

In this weeks Episode our guest Yasmin Elhady talks to us about how giving charity paid her way into Law School, the Joy of Motherhood and the scary transition into meaningful and fulfilling work. Yasmin Elhady is the daughter of Libyan and Egyptian immigrants, otherwise known as a North African Unicorn. She was born in Egypt and came to the United States at age 4, growing up in the deep South. Yasmin is an attorney, comedian, philanthropist, and relationship expert. She’s basically confused, or multi-talented—you choose. She received her undergraduate degrees from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in Neuroscience and Middle Eastern Studies. After completing a graduate fellowship at the American University in Cairo focusing on Arabic, she attended law school at the UCLA School of Law. There, Yasmin was the President of her law class, as well as President of the Muslim Law Students Association.
She wrote onto the UCLA Law Review where she was a Comments Editor, and also served as the Chief Articles Editor for the UCLA Journal of Islamic & Near Eastern Law. Upon graduation, Yasmin was selected for the U.S. Department of Justice's Attorney General's Honors Program. She later attended Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School, was named a John L. Weinberg '47 Mid-Career Fellow in Public & International Affairs, and served as her Public Policy class's student government representative. She then returned to federal service & is currently an attorney. She’s also the Chairwoman of the Board if PennyAppealUSA—a charity focused on ending cyclical poverty domestically & internationally.
Her roles as mother, daughter, wife, and sister help inform her perspective and relate to other people's joy and pain with humor. Her alter ego is "Yasguru," a hyper active relationship advisor with silly videos on Instagram & YouTube and a “#MarryMondays” relationship series.

Kashmir is featured in the award-winning documentary film ‘We Are Poets’, where she performed outside the White House at ‘Brave New Voices’- the world’s most prestigious poetry slam competition.
Since then, Kashmir has published her most recent book ‘Nafsi: Jihad Upon my Self’, in which she addresses some of the greatest misconceptions about Islam, through poetry and prose. Dr. Shaakira Abdul Razzaq is the epitome of a go-getter. Born and raised Muslim in America, Dr. Shaakira was personally faced with the challenge of being a single mother, just two months after her high school graduation. Her ambition and courage propelled her to become a Family Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, from Rutgers University.
Due to her own experiences and trials with teenage pregnancy, this 27-year-old is strongly passionate about implementing her empowering sex education program adapted uniquely for Muslim youth with Quran and Sunnah (Islamic beliefs and values).

Boshia Raejean was born on October 31st in the year 1990. He mother Valerie always involved her in extracurricular activities computer science, art , basketball, dance,beauty pageants, musical training acting, and modeling. Boshia has always been active in life as a creative and artist since the age of 3. Growing up Boshia was raised christian and went to christian and catholic schools at the age of 7 and up. She began her music career at the age of 17. Boshia started to feel a void, needing to be filled at the age of 18.She was not satisfied with just her wants, that were self centered. Later in life Boshia slowly backed away from the music scene completely focusing on her spirituality and life's purpose. Saniyyah has been published in Astound Magazine, Institute Magazine and Elegant Magazine. Therefore, she loves telling stories by styling creative photo shoots. Saniyyah, is very versatile in the styles she can put together whether it is for a lifestyle shoot, editorial, characters for a film, a music video, performance or red carpet.
