What is worth more than everything else we possess?
In this final message of the Kingdom Growth series, Jesus points us to the incomparable value of the kingdom of heaven. Through the parables of the hidden treasure and the pearl of great price, we learn that life with Christ is the greatest treasure anyone can receive. More importantly, the Gospel reveals that Christ first sought us, redeemed us, and made us His treasured possession.

How does God's kingdom grow?
In this sermon from the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower, revealing that the growth of God's kingdom depends not on human effort but on the power of His living Word. We begin the new series Kingdom Growth by exploring how God's kingdom grows through the quiet yet powerful work of His Word.
In Matthew 11, Jesus invites weary and burdened people to find rest in Him. In a world marked by stress, uncertainty, and endless demands, Christ offers something deeper than temporary relief. He offers forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and the peace that comes from His gracious presence.
This sermon explores how God's kingdom advances not through human effort or worldly power, but through the gentle and saving work of Christ. His yoke is easy and His burden is light because He bears our burdens and carries us by grace.

What does Jesus mean when He says that following Him may bring division, sacrifice, and hardship?
In this sermon for the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost, we explore Christ's challenging words in Matthew 10 and discover that true discipleship is not built on comfort or popularity but on trusting the One who gave His life for us. While following Jesus may come at a cost, His promises never fail. Those who belong to Him are known, loved, and will never lose the reward He has prepared for His people.

Jesus looked upon the crowds and saw people who were weary, burdened, and wandering like sheep without a shepherd. Moved by compassion, He called and sent His disciples into the harvest field with His authority and His message of mercy.
In this sermon for the Third Sunday after Pentecost, we explore how Christ continues to send His Church into the world today. The mission is not built on power, status, or human strength, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Why would Jesus choose a tax collector to be one of His disciples?
In Matthew 9 : 9–13, Jesus calls Matthew away from his old life and into fellowship with Him not because Matthew was righteous, but because he was a sinner in need of mercy. The religious leaders could not understand why Jesus would eat with tax collectors and sinners, but Christ reveals the heart of God: "I desire mercy, and not sacrifice."
In this sermon for the Second Sunday after Pentecost, we explore how God's grace reaches those who know their need for forgiveness. The Gospel is not for the strong, the successful, or the self-sufficient. It is for sinners who need a Savior.
Through the promise fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we hear once again that God justifies the ungodly, welcomes the outcast, and restores the broken through His mercy.

What does it mean to belong to the Triune God?
On Holy Trinity Sunday, we hear how the Father creates, the Son redeems, and the Holy Spirit sanctifies. From the opening words of Genesis to Jesus' command to baptize all nations in Matthew 28, Scripture reveals the one true God working for our salvation.

Theme: Put On the New Self
We turn to Colossians 3:1–11 and Luke 12: 13–21 to hear a call to transformation. More than just a nice idea, an invitation to live out our new identity in Christ.
Jesus warns against the trap of storing up treasures on earth, reminding us that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions. Paul echoes this call to deeper living, urging believers to “put off the old self” and to “put on the new,” shaped not by greed, anger, or falsehood, but by godly character and truth.
In Christ, our lives are hidden with God. We are raised into something greater into a life of grace, humility, and purpose.

The Apostle Paul expresses deep joy in the Philippians, not simply for their kindness, but for their partnership in the Gospel. The Greek word for this is koinonia, fellowship that goes beyond friendship. It is a mutual participation in God’s mission, a unity formed by grace, and a calling to maturity as the Body of Christ.
As we grow together through truth spoken in love, lives lived in service, and prayers lifted in unity we become rooted not only in Christ, but also in one another.

In Ephesians 2: 11–22, we see how Christ has broken down dividing walls and made peace possible not just with God, but with each other.
Christian community is not always easy. It involves humility, forgiveness, and patience. But through the Spirit, we are being shaped into something far greater. For our fellowship reflects our fellowship with God.

Imagine trying to be a good Lutheran pastor when you’ve never read the Book of Concord, or even Luther’s Small Catechism. Or trying to explain to a five-year-old child who Jesus is – without any Bible storybooks.
For Lutheran churches around the world, these situations are reality.They don’t have the basic books, so vital to understanding the Lutheran faith, because no one has translated them into their languages. LHF translates the books that help people understand God's word.

For when we hear what God has to say, God has reversed what we expect. This scandalous reversal of expectation, our sense of justice, and even our hopes is a central piece of the New Testament. Whoever wants to be first must be last, and servant of all (Mark 9:35). There goes our ideas of greatness and worth. Stopped at the gate of God’s kingdom Some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last (Luke 13:30). At the end of the day it is Jesus, who is first and last (Revelation 1:17), who has done it all; he has worked for the wages of both first and last, and calls our labors to cease.

Three times in this Gospel reading, Jesus says, “Do not be afraid.” But we don’t like talking about the one time he thinks we should be afraid. Fearing the one who can destroy body and soul. “The Right Kind of Fear” The FEAR of God’s wrath over our sins is ALWAYS meant to point us to Jesus, our Lord who can destroy and give us a way out. For you know where you stand before the one who does have the power that Jesus says we should fear. He promises love, forgiveness, and life.

We continue our series and Bible Study reminding ourselves that God cares for the whole person. That we have a Biblical foundation for who we are as a whole person.
Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.”
We hear Jesus’ announcement that the kingdom of heaven is near. The phrase “kingdom of heaven,” which we find frequently in Matthew’s Gospel, does not refer to a place called “heaven,” where God’s people will go after death. It refers to the rule of heaven, that is, of God, being brought to bear in this present world.
The Old Testament makes it clear that God intended to bring justice, peace, healing, and liberation to this present world. The question simply was, how, when, and through whom? And, as Jesus began his ministry, the disciples began to realize he was the promised one through whom this would take place.

Notice even though He made everything out of just the power of His voice, God chooses to form out of the ground humans. After making people, God invites them to reflect Himself. To be fruitful and to multiply Both in the power of creation and in his mission and purpose for creation. Hear this same identity echoed in Jesus’ words, of who you are as His disciples.

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” - Acts 1:6
Throughout Easter, we have been reminded of what the resurrection means for our life here and now. We hear how the lives of the first followers and Jesus had their lives shaped and changed. The news of the resurrection broke what was expected, to break from what they expected and to hold onto who God is.
After the resurrection, the disciple expected that now would be the moment. Now would be when the prayers would be answered, the Kingdom of Israel restored, thy kingdom come.
Jesus’ answer, will you bring the kingdom now? Was ... no, but you will.
How many times do we look at the state of things around us and say someone needs to fix it…
You have received the news of the risen Lord. With that, God has placed on you the call to be His witnesses. God’s plan is you will bring His kingdom the solution the world needs.

For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ Acts 17:28
On the night before the crucifixion, with the tensions high, Jesus prayed. He prayed for those who would remain so that they would know they are never really without him. Paul speaking with people unfamiliar with the Gospel or even the Old Testament shares Jesus. Here he speaks of a familiar indwelling. That God, who took on flesh, God who died, God who rose from the tomb, is our faith, he also is our present life. He is the freedom that we have now and the essence of our being. Life in Christ is the essence of who you are. This is the air you breathe.

It is on him that appeared imperfect but was the perfection of God that you are called to be living stones. What is your life being built into for the kingdom of God?

For the Lord is there for us reaching out, in the midst of our doubts and fears, and in the midst of our sins and failings. You, not your family or friends are called to trust and believe our crucified and risen Lord and Savior when he comes to us and says: “Peace be with you.” While we might all come to faith in different walks, he comes to us and says, “Do not doubt, but believe.”

Finally! At long last! We made it! Easter Sunday has arrived, and we gather this morning to sing the praises of Him who was crucified and now bursts forth from death’s grave! As the children of Israel wandered through the wilderness for forty years, they held fast to the hope that the land flowing with milk and honey was waiting for them. As we have journeyed through the season of Lent over the last forty days, we have anticipated the joy that we share together this Easter Day. We have also learned to look ahead, all the way to the promised treasure of life everlasting in heavenly glory. Today’s feasting with our risen Savior gives us a preview of what awaits us in eternal life. And on that glorious coming day, we know what we will say: Finally! At long last! We made it!

The Old Rugged Cross

The altar is stripped and the paraments are gone, the wood of many altars, lecterns, and pulpits are fully exposed. Wood reminds you what took place on the tree of the cross, where your Lord once died. Jesus’ cross brings peace, forgiveness, and salvation. By it, the lives of Christians are rescued, sweetened, and lightened. For your reflection here are familiar words of “The Old Rugged Cross” penned by American composer George Bennard in 1912:
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown.

The pilgrims packed Jerusalem during the Feast of Passover, waving palm branches and singing praises to the donkey-riding King who came to save. Not knowing exactly how or even when He would declare His victory over His foes, the multitudes celebrated and were “altogether joyful” (Deuteronomy 16:15). We can have the same joy and gladness in our hearts today as Jesus comes to us through the promised treasures of His Word. Because we have received the full story of His saving actions for us, we are blessed to know that by His death and resurrection that week of Passover, our humble King has delivered us from our enemies—Satan, sin, and death. Let us together be “altogether joyful” in Jesus!

When Jesus describes Himself in John 6 as the bread of life, we know that He highlights for us His mission of salvation. As our bread of life, Jesus comes to forgive us, renew us, and lead us toward a meaningful life in relationship with Him. Let us taste and experience that life together this day as the Holy Spirit calls us to walk with Jesus and be satisfied by His presence among us.

“Let there be light,” God said (Genesis 1:3). And there was light. Through the promised treasure of His Word, God keeps speaking to us. And because He does, there is light. Light from above! Light never-ending! Light that enlightens our way to life everlasting! Jesus Christ is this “light of the world” (John 8:12), the light no darkness can overcome. By His Word and Spirit, this light breaks through again today, enters our lives, and enables us to shine brightly for Him.

As we start off this Lenten walk remember that Jesus died on Calvary’s cross to immunize us completely from sin’s power and eternal death. God is not distant from you but very near. He comes to deliver you and preserve you amid all your troubles. He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34).

Lent begins with ashes. After Job endured ashes and crosses of suffering, God graciously delivered him out of them. Jesus Christ washes and raises you out of every suffering, trial, and sin with renewed purpose, hope, and joy. All of these were nailed to the cross with our Lord Jesus Christ. St. Paul says, “He (God) made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). In the righteousness of Christ, you are clothed anew to serve Him each day. Jesus raises you from ashes to life. As He did Job, even when faced with the ashes of life and suffering, He fills you with renewed purpose, hope, and joy as you live each day as a baptized child in Christ.

As we celebrate Transfiguration, our eyes are called not to see something wonderful, but that in the wonder, what God is saying. God is at work. His message is straightforward. The message we don't want to hear. That message is this, listen to Jesus. You can trust His plan over your plan. You can lean on him. You can trust him. You can put your life in his hands. For His plan is the answer of God

Which do you choose? This is the decision God places before his people. Do you want life based on Christ or death based on anything else?
See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I am commanding you today, by loving the LORD your God, walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees, and ordinances, then you shall live and become numerous, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. (Deuteronomy 30:15–16)
Reading this passage from the comfort of our pews, armchairs, or kitchen tables, it’s easy to imagine that this is an easy decision… Life… Who would choose death? Yet this question is set before you not when you are in worship, or devotion, but every day… which do you choose once the comfort is gone?

We have been hearing who God's servant has called us to be. Now God’s servant is seen in suffering. Yet here the servant is in triumph. For here we see the light of God’s revelation. Should we really be surprised that it would happen this way? Are you surprised the servant would suffer for our salvation and die for our forgiveness? Are you then surprised that to serve as you have been serving can be a call to be like Him?

Isaiah 50
As we pause to reflect on God’s revelation you might notice that this song sounds familiar. Usually, this servant song of Isaiah is heard on Palm Sunday. The people of Israel fail miserably as they fall short of the LORD’s expectations for His servant. Therefore, the LORD sends another Servant. One who would experience suffering, shame, and disgrace, then help and rescue. As Christ was obedient unto death, even death on a tree, so the LORD raised Him up and exalted Him to His right hand. This is more than news for Holy Week and Good Friday. This is what God has said His servant would be. What do you expect as his people?

Behold God's Servant
Isaiah 49
Isaiah 49:7b
Kings shall see and arise;
princes, and they shall prostrate themselves;
because of the LORD, who is faithful,
the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”
The servant of the Lord is described in the second song as the one who will bring back God’s people. In verses 5 and 6 we hear the “restoration” language. In some Bibles, you might find it translated as “bring back”. The theme of restoration is more powerful than what we might first hear. For the language of restoration cannot be separated from the language of resurrection. Today we reflect on the Epiphany of what it means to be restored to the land, restored to the proper relationship with God restored in a bodily resurrection.

Isaiah 42
Today start our time hearing God's Word from the prophet Isaiah. For the next few weeks, we will be gathering God’s descriptions of a servant. A servant who is just and compassionate, who does not like the nations but according to the will of God. This servant would give Himself as a sacrifice, and who God will exalt. These sections of Isaiah have been given the name "Servant Songs".
Isaiah 42:1
Behold my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
Who is this servant of the Lord? The one that we hear will open the eye of those blinded. To release the captives. and not be like the nations. As we celebrate Epiphany, rejoice in Christ for the nations. The question of God's servant in this first song bubbles up. We ask the question who is God's servant and what does God ask of those who serve?

First Sunday After Christmas
Circumcision and the Name of Jesus

The Lord Is Salvation
Today we have a triple event. New Years, 1 Sunday of Christmas, and the feast of the CIRCUMCISION AND NAME OF JESUS. The last is one we often don’t think about anymore. Often today, names are given at birth, scripture tells us that our Lord was named and Circumcised at the end of 8 days… the name given by the angel. A name meaning "The Lord is Salvation".
For the OT people of God, circumcision was all about becoming an heir of the promise God made to Abraham. This ritual brought the child into the covenant promise God had made to Abraham. Circumcision was also a representation of sin being removed. It offered forgiveness, and God's righteousness, along with membership in the family of God. The promise was that Abraham's descendants through faith would be many nations. God's everlasting covenant with Abraham was that he would bring a Savior into the world.
Jesus had come into the world to bear the sin of the world. In his circumcision and later, in his Baptism, Jesus took our place under the law. He fulfilled what we break. He took our place willingly and substituted himself. Jesus didn’t partially fulfill the law, as his name says “God delivered us” or "the Lord is Salvation".
Colossians 2:11-12 “In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.”

God has Restored Righteousness
The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.’ ”
While the images might have changed, the message of what it means to have God with us sounds out loud and clear. He has come to restore that which was broken. To bring peace and justice where there was violence and disorder. When God comes and is with us, nothing can stop him. We hear today that God promises prosperity and joy to those who have hope in him. Even out of a dead stump, God finds a way to bring his righteousness.

What happens when we go before God? Isaiah and the Psalmist depict the great joy of what being before God will mean. Yet we are seemingly surprised when that peace comes. The peace that he promised seems to be lacking. When God comes, he promises something new. A new relationship with God and each other. Peace dwells with us.

The first practice is how we give glory to God. it might seem simple but we are called to abide in His word. Abiding does not always seem glorious. However, when we abide in Christ and his word we are called to live that He is the justifier. We give glory when we surrender to him.

As we finish 2nd Timothy we hear Paul say that God was with him. According to most sources, these words that we read and hear are the last Paul wrote.
With Paul near the end of his ministry, we hear him finding strength in God, who has been with him. Along with that, we hear words of connections with others and what others do for us. We end our time hearing Paul’s words to Timothy and to the church with the call to be there for each other. Just as God is there with you.

Remember what you have learned
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it - 2 Timothy 3:14.
What is the greatest thing that Timothy learned, that we all could learn? Paul reminds us that God’s message is the greatest treasure we have. At the same time, he calls Timothy to remember who taught it to him.
We have many rhythms of life that remind us of what to do. As we celebrate Christian education and families we look at the call to be in the word of God and the calling to hear that it is profitable for all believers. Just like Timothy we need to remember what we have learned and who taught it to us.

Paul knows that life is not always going to be easy. in fact, the Christian life is going to be just the opposite. He calls us to share in the suffering of Jesus. However, in Christ's suffering, we find the strength to keep going. Jesus is central to your life. He is central to the church’s life and he is central to the life to come. We need to view our life and how we see the world around us through this.

Part 4- Not Ashamed but Holding Fast
Paul knows what is about to unfold. Difficult times are in store not just for him but for Timothy. Why is he able to endure hardship and trials and suffering for the Lord? How can he endure them without shame? Without any sense that the Lord has let him down?
Often, we see setbacks as a sense that the Lord has not got His eye upon you. When times are tough, either God has failed or we have failed in our mission. Who wants to struggle? We shy away from difficulties at all.
As we move to 2nd timothy we hear Paul prepare Timothy for his death. What does Paul call his son in the faith to listen to? Do not be ashamed of your difficulties but have confidence in Jesus Christ.

Part 1- Your identity is found in Christ
Today we start our time going through 1st and 2nd Timothy. We start by asking a fundamental question for our being as a church and as people of God. Who are you?
Who are you? Are you your sin, Are you your job your hobbies, etc.
Or are you found in the one who saved you from those things?
The Apostle Paul declares his identity separates who he was, that he was a blasphemer and a violent persecutor of Christians. Yet, by God’s grace, he was not only forgiven but appointed to preach the Gospel. The awareness of his sin kept Paul humble and filled with gratitude to God. As we start our time in Paul's letter to Timothy we hear of a grace that transformed who we are.

Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple
We like God’s free invitation of the gospel. He has provided everything at His expense and He invites sinners to come to His great dinner. You cannot bring anything nor do anything to deserve an invitation. God provides it all by His free grace. While He has done it all, we close off this series with the cost of following Christ. For we hear the call to take up our cross and follow Him.
Salvation is absolutely free, following Christ though has a cost. You can't be a superficial Christian.

What do you value?
Luke 14:11 (ESV)
"For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.”
Who do you value? We can look at this seating honor system and be confused or feel lost. The idea of people belonging to the lower cast does not seem to work in today's modern democratic society. Almost every church says all are welcomed and says they are welcoming of others. Yet at the same time, we still have our own ways of having people we don’t want to deal with. People that we look down upon. Even if we say we don’t we end up just ignoring them when they are around us.
Jesus said Don't give dinner to your friends or family and rich neighbors. Rather invite people you wouldn’t associate with. When we realize that he did it for us, we see there is no reason we can't do it as his people.

Jesus is not here for peace

Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division
WHAT!!!! Jesus' own words about his mission fly in the face of what many think of him. With all of the divisiveness present in society these days, it seems like the last thing we need is a gospel text that seemingly encourages more division.
Jesus is passionate about what His ministry means and what is at stake. We should be too. We see Jesus declare that following Him means Judgment, Death and Division. For he does bring peace, but not at the cost of the Gospel.

Worry, Possessions, and Giving

28 But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!
Today we start off our series of hearing Jesus proclaim hard lessons with one that we often turn to for comfort. However, it is never as easy to do as it is to say. We can relate to the end of the passage above, O you of little faith.
We love the comfort that Luke 12 brings of a God that comforts us. A God that knows our needs and is there for us like the flowers and the birds. Notice however, the danger that is here, the sin that we don’t talk about. Worry.

We often are so focused on the meaningless that we miss what is truly important. Sometimes we need to pause, reflect and remember what we are saying when we say that God is our all in all. For when life is centered in God we find His blessings and meanings in life.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh, I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known,
Paul, in proclaiming the all-sufficient gospel of Jesus' death and resurrection declares that he rejoices in filling up what is lacking in Christ. What! this is one of those double-take lines of the Gospel. However, when we relook at this, we see Paul's meaning. For Paul to proclaim that Christ has done it all, but what is missing, for you to hear, for you to believe and for you to tell.

Leviticus 19
‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy." Leviticus 19:2
In the New Testament, Leviticus 19 is the most cited. Jesus and the apostles keep returning to this chapter to call the church, the new Israel, to hear its identity. That as God has given you a new identity. Out of this, flows who you now are. For just as the people of God in the Old Testament, you have been given a task to be different, for the sake of letting others know who God is.

God's comfort to the Destressed
Isaiah 66:10-14
You might know what it is like to be bone tired. Not just tired or exhausted but feeling it in your bones. God's people are also familiar with this feeling. As we turn to the end of Isaiah God gives his final say. His final announcements of both judgment but also comfort.
For his people who are weary and bone tired, God promises comfort and peace. He promises that he will
be there to comfort his children and that one day we will rejoice with Jerusalem. For one day God's peace will come like a river.

1st Kings 19 picks up with a prophet on the run from the world. A prophet who is tired and drained. Yet also a prophet who is missing the mission. In response, God calls his prophet to see what
Now we are not in the same shoes as Elijah and might not get an audience before God in the same way. However, we too can have our lives, our worries and our fears blind us to God's plans and his callings.
Today we see a prophet before God while missing what God is doing as He asks "what are you doing here Elijah?"

Second Sunday After Pentecost
Found by those who did not seek
Isaiah 65:1-9
I have been ready to give an answer to those who did not make prayer to me; I have been offering myself to those who were not searching for me; I said, Here am I, here am I, to a nation which gave no respect to my name.
Last week we looked at the joy of knowing God. How wonderful it is that the one true God is known. As we turn to the book of Isaiah. If we know the God who does wonderous things how do we react in the face of trouble. We look to the mystery of how God reacts to all the people who do not know him. God saying he has made himself known he has shown himself plainly. Isaiah 65:1-9 brings us a promise of a God who seeks after those who did not know him.

I in Love with Jesus or ______?
The First Commandment reminds us that God is to be first. Yet, every one of us struggles
with this. We end up putting other things before God, the never-ending struggle with idolatry.
Scripture is clear, nothing – no matter how good – is to come before God. He is our focus and our hope.
Living in America, there are many things that we are blessed with and love about our lives. Loving is not the problem. The key question is, “What do we love most.” The challenge is not to love, but to be ready to hold softly the love that we have in favor of the greater call to love God above all things.
The Holy Spirit is what enables us to love as God calls us to. Are you ready to love as God calls you to?

Reopening Christianity week 4
It can be so easy to know what is wrong with the world. To sit back and point out what shouldn't be done.
However, is that who we are called to be? Are we supposed to be known for all the things we hate? Is that what our faith is based on? When it comes down to it, we all struggle with living out our faith, with being God's people.
As we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord, we should ask ourselves how we are known? Today we are called to remember that Jesus is still with us, and He calls us to represent him. How are we doing and what are his people known for? Maybe we need to change what we do.

David stepped up to fight a giant when everyone else was simply trying not to be conquered by the giant. We are reminded how we can be brave in how we live for Christ! We are called to not be defensive but to be an agent of God’s hope for others.

God's people have been changed by God to be His light to the nations. We are called to consider not what has happened in your past but the past is not our priority. What is “truth”?
Oh boy, that is a big question. We live in a world that wants you to think that truth is based on interpretation. Your faith how you live your faith who you follow…all a matter of interpretation and not objective truth.
“Your word is truth,” Jesus said in John 17:17.
Easter reminds us that we apprehend that truth through faith, through Spirit-wrought trust in God’s promises. Matthew 28:17 gives a great example of this distinction. “When they saw Him [the resurrected Jesus], they worshipped Him; but some doubted.” There He was, objective truth, but the truth was received only through faith.
He is risen! You are invited to live in the truth of the empty tomb.

The question for tonight” Do you live as if God is Dead?
In Life Together Dietrich Bonhoeffer tells how we relate to the Biblical story: We are torn out of our own existence and set down in the midst of the reality of when God was on earth. There God dealt with us, and there He still deals with us, our needs and our sins, in judgment and grace.
It is not that God is the spectator of our present life, howsoever important that is; but rather that we are the reverent listeners and participants in God’s action in the sacred story, the history of the Christ on earth. And only in so far as we are there, is God with us today also. (Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together [San Francisco: Harper, 1954], 53-54)

Faith is more than knowing what Jesus did. Faith believes it is for you.
The hope is to bring the listener into the story of the Son of Man coming to serve us, quoting passages of John 13 Washing the disciples’ feet is a sign that we are cleansed by Jesus’ service to us (His coming, His passion, His death, His resurrection and going to the Father for us, and His Spirit through Word and sacrament).
Maundy Thursday helps us find ourselves, as a community served by Jesus. Here we find that we are to in turn serve others.

How do you see Jesus this day? Is this a day of celebration? Or is this your King coming to you in your time of need? We have been looking at what Bonhoeffer has been saying about the Christian life, Does Palm Sunday reflect how you live your life?
From a reflection on Bonhoeffer’s Life:
Bonhoeffer looked to Jesus’ life when he made his decision to return to Germany and stay beyond the point of no return. The way he put it was, if he stayed safely in New York throughout the war and then returned to Germany, he wouldn’t have anything to offer to his companions in the Confessing Church who had suffered through the war. Anything he tried to offer them, as he put it, would be “cheap grace.” It would be hollow comfort from someone who had abandoned them in their time of greatest need. Bonhoeffer looked at how Jesus went all in to save his friends, and he decided that he wanted to be able to offer that kind of “costly grace.”

Anchored in Christ
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy." - 1 Peter 1:8.
This might be easy to say when life is good.
But, when difficult times come what keeps you going?
Sadly when trials and temptations come, many turn away from God and his promises. We feel alone with no ground to stand on. However, we have a God who knows what it means to feel completely alone. He has gone through the abyss and is there for us even when we want to cry out with Jesus, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

As Christians, we live out the story of faith in Christ. One of confession, forgiveness, and a promise. Our Life Together as a congregation is living in this story amidst all the stories clamoring for attention in contemporary America.
“Among earnest Christians in the Church today there is a growing desire to meet together with other Christians in the rest periods of their work for common life under the Word. Communal life is again being recognized by Christians today as the grace that it is, as the extraordinary, the ‘roses and lilies’ of the Christian life. Christianity means community through Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together [New York: HarperOne, 1978], 21).

Life in God
The world’s attitude, says that you and I are whatever we make ourselves to be, or that we are whatever we have been made to be by forces that influence us.
There is a general distrust of authority all around. We are told to trust ourselves over the “authorities of the world”. “Life’s better in my hands.”
As we celebrate the Transfiguration of our Lord, we start a time seeing that who Jesus is who he has called us to be. We see and hear from heaven that Life is better not when we listen to others or to ourselves but when we listen to God. He calls us to see and hear His Son. The church as more than an earthly institution. Our “Life Together” is the repentant Body of Christ coming together again and again to hear the stories of the Father’s dependable care for us.

We often can be so focused on what we can't do that we miss what is right there in front of us. The call to show the kingdom though what we can. As we look at Jesus' teaching of the sermon on the Mount, we hear our Lord calling you to show His love as He has shown it.

Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Scripture tells us to love the Lord our God with all our hearts and do not trust in our own understanding. Jeremiah shows us this great blessing of trusting the Lord. For God alone does great things. He greatly blesses and shows His goodness to all those who trust in Him. When we see the calling to place our trust in God we hear that God is the one who will cause us to be fruitful.

The season of Epiphany is all about revealing the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. As we learn about the gift of who Jesus is, God taking on human flesh and becoming fully man, we are asked to consider what it means to our hearts and minds. For we are called before the throne of our Lord where we see what kind of God we have.

Fourth Sunday After Epiphany
Last week we heard the crowd tried to force him to the cliff, they couldn't throw him over. Jesus just walked away, through the crowd, and out of town. This week we see Jesus continue going. Demons could not stop him, confusion cant and we cant. He has a purpose that is not always in line with our plans. When faced with a Lord that has a focused task we are called to follow Him on His mission.

Second Sunday After Epiphany
Jesus Seen In Miracles
Readings:
Is. 62:1–5
1 Cor. 12:1–11
John 2:1–11
We find ourselves now at a celebration. The scene for Jesus' first miracle. However, admits the crowd rejoicing what is seen and unseen is startling. For Jesus does the unexpected and most go unaware.
Where are you focusing now? What is drawing your focus?
God’s word in the midst of a feast says it is not what we expect but what is unexpected. For just like the wine the best is yet to come, Jesus. Lingering on the outskirts of and performing unseen wonders there is something greater. He is someone who goes unseen by many, who works in the background, who takes what is at hand and turns it into something beautiful.
For those who see Jesus has revealed his glory. Today we see what he points us to that He is God’s last, best gift.

In His Father's House
God reveals Himself… sometimes in unexpected ways
The text today does not focus on what Jesus was doing instead we find Mary and Joseph looking for him. They are worried, concerned and the text shows them clueless. Jesus’s first words in Luke are dealing with a misunderstanding. And instead of answering His mother, Jesus brings more questions to the table. We see the call to see Jesus not as we expect him but through his words and actions. His ways are not our ways.

It has loomed over the past few months. Everything has pointed to Christmas. Schools, schedules, families, decorations, budgets, calendars, churches.
But that’s over… now that the letdown has set in and the reality is hitting what comes next. In the post-Christmas comas, Simeon directs us to see what it all was for. With Simeon, and with the church we are dismissed by God in peace for peace to be in service in a world that will oppose us because it opposed Him

In recent years we joined together with a Christmas hymn setting the tone for our service. This year we rejoice at the birth of our savior with what some consider the oldest Christmas carol, "Jesus Light of All the Nations" By Hilary of Poitiers.
As we celebrate this day, God has given us a wonderful revelation a shining gift. A gift to that even hidden in rags is the light of the world.

‘Jesus, devoted redeemer of all nations, has shone forth,
Let the whole family of the faithful celebrate the stories
The shining star, gleaming in the heavens, makes him known at his birth
and, going before, has led the Magi to his cradle

Philippians 1
Prepared By the Lord
God Himself is making His church ready. Ready for service and ready to be the church for, “the day of Jesus Christ”. All three of the texts point to this idea. The reading from Philippians reminds us that God is still at work in you. As we prepare for our Lord, we are being prepared to celebrate him. He is also preparing us “to be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ”

Waiting For Your Lord
Luke 21 reminds us that the Lord is still doing something new. He is still at work and soon will return.
The Day of Judgment is not the focus, but the focus is on the Son of Man. It is the personal return of your Lord. Join us as we join together awaiting the One who is expected. For our faith is about Jesus, the one who will come with our redemption is drawing near, His word will not pass away.

Thanksgiving is a special moment to reflect on God’s abundant grace that He pours out in our lives through so many ways. Food, clothing, shelter, family, friends, freedom, forgiveness and the list goes on.
As we give thanks we are encouraging people to bring donations for local food banks to this worship service. Joining us from outside of the area? There are still plenty of ways we can think of the needs of others as we give thanks for what God has given to us.

Be Alert! Stay Awake!
Do you lose sleep because of your faith? Is that what Jesus is saying? Jesus has both a warning and a promise in calling you to stay awake.
All that Christ won for you, all that he has done for you, is delivered to you in the words of the gospel. Jesus’ words are active and effective. They do what they say and they give you what they promise. So we are called to stay awake in our faith because of what and who we know. Don't sleep on this!Readings for the day

Why are you here?
Why bother with the church at all?
The number of people attending worship keeps going down and what becomes striking is what drives people to gather in worship. What you value and motivates you to come or what pushes you away can completely miss the point. Today we look at Hebrews 10 and hear why it matters. For Jesus has drawn near to God. Through His sacrifice you have been cleansed and as we gather we receive what has been accomplished by our Lord. Join us as we gather to be strengthened in the confession.
Why do we bother, because despite our reasonings this is where God draws near to us.
