The lifestyle podcast for women disrupting the norm by chilling in their truth and gracefully inspiring others to do the same.
As a certified coach who works with successful women to disrupt the norm by trusting what they want for their life, it's always been super important for me to show case women doing just this.
We all deserve to be seen. To be heard. To be understood. And to know we aren’t alone when what we want for our life may seem too big or too different or too weird.
The more we all share our journey the more we open up space for others to do the same.
“I started writing down ‘Why am i doing this?’. The first week was better sleep and then I noticed over time there were more reasons than I realized. As you start to go through the journey you start to uncover more reasons of the why which gives you more empowerment to continue for however long you want to go”
After being sober curious since 2019, Michael got serious about his curiosity last November setting a 6 month goal of sobriety. As a regular drinker on the weekends, date night or social events he had tried previous stints of not drinking but felt ready to take on a larger mission after realizing that even after one drink things felt off the next day.
Raised in a non-drinking household where it wasn’t talked about Michael got to college and not knowing how to handle his drink which led to excessive drinking as a young adult. He then drank like a “normal” adult but realized that even after one beer or glass of whisky, his sleep would be off.
We talk about the power of data to not only look at how alcohol affects your body but also in identifying your drinking triggers and staying connected to why you quit in the first place. He shares the shocking statistic of his resting heart rate dropping 17% after quitting drinking and although that may not all be due to a direct correlation of booze, the better sleep, lower stress and increased activity that comes from not drinking certainly helped.
He talks about as the CEO of a high growth company, how being sober is his growth edge when leading his company and supports him in standing out from the others. And also how speaking on this topic on such a public platform like LinkedIn and with this team he has received so much support.
While better health and professional growth is important, the most significant impact is on his parenting. As a late in life father he has found he is more present with his kiddos knowing that the day to day moments he used to rush through, like bed time, are now so much more special. And his kids are showing up differently too.

“It still feels like a miracle to me. How I was able to do something I never thought I could do. It’s so important to connect back to moments like that when facing something difficult.”
Justin Wolf started New Brew, a euphoric seltzer, about a year ago after leaving alcohol behind in October 2021. Despite looking like a well-adjusted human with a successful career and marriage, Justin was hiding a dirty little secret (or so he thought). An ultimatum and the healing power of psychedelic drugs led him to find freedom from alcohol and create his own sober•ish journey. After years of traditional treatment from therapy to pharmaceuticals it was when he developed his own tool kit of support that he was able to truly step into his version of sobriety.
He shares about the importance of finding your baseline without any substance, including coffee, to know what it feels like to just operate as you and the power of showing yourself “I’m okay when I have nothing in my system.”
We discuss how just because people don’t want to drink alcohol doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t want to partake in an altering activity, it’s just the booze that is destructive for them. We talk about how important it is for young kids to know what alcohol really does to your body and mind as so much development is going on during the times that kids are taught alcohol is cool.
This is such an important conversation as we are in a time where there are so many healing modalities outside of what we have traditionally thought of. I am so grateful for people like Justin and his team who are disrupting the booze industry and I could not be more in their corner. Check out New Brew at www.drinknewbrew.com.

JUSTIN WOLF, CEO & CO-FOUNDER OF NEW BREW
Justin Wolf started New Brew after being frustrated by all the non-alc and "functional beverage" options that didn't live up to their claims. While traveling in Mexico, he experienced the transformative benefits of Kava Root and Kratom Leaf, and set out with his two brothers to create a RTD beverage for California Sober and health conscious individuals like him. Before starting New Brew, Justin spent five years leading Global Partnerships at Google and launched Drip Drop, an electrolyte powder hydration supplement that is now sold at pharmacies across the US. Throughout his career, Justin has been an early investor and advisor in the psychedelic medicine space. Now, along with his two brothers, Justin is on a mission to give consumers better alternatives to alcohol, and educate people about the transformative benefits of plants.www.drinknewbrew.com

Stacey - Safety, Wasted Energy and the Stories we tell ourself
“I had to work through the fear. What does it look like? It only looks like what I want it to look like. It doesn't have to mean anything and I didnt have to explain it. It looks like I honor myself.”
Stacey was never a big drinker as she always felt unsafe around those who were inebriated and never wanted to find herself in an unsafe place. She started to slowly drink more. It became a habit that didn't totally disrupt her life but she found herself spending more energy on it than she wanted. After spending time with me Stacey truly stepped into conscious drinking over habitual actions. Through her journey she has uncovered all sorts of goodies that she shares in today’s episode.
How it was the impact after the drink that always caught up to her. The feeling of being bloated and puffy and then the thoughts that would spiral from there into more and more negative thoughts completely distracting her from the love she was meant to receive.
How when her adult kids jokingly called her a “party mom”, she was totally caught off guard as she did everything she could to NOT be perceived that way.How she realized she was wanting to drink to fit in but the more she stepped into trusting herself she knows she can't be left out because she is complete with herself. About Stacey As an empowerment coach, Stacey firmly believes that true power emanates from within. The journey is about discovering the strength, resilience, and skills that will propel you to thrive in your professional adventure. She became certified so she could share this life-changing work with other women and let them know there's another way! A way where you listen to that voice inside, your intuition and trust, that is guiding you. Crushing your goals and desires from a life of calm and ease!

“I'm really thankful for my mind, my body, my heart, my intuition. my gut. They came in and supported me in this decision. “You are okay without this. In fact, you're better,” I feel it in my bones. I’m just done with alcohol.”
Tommy started his sober•ish journey with a one month trial in November and loved it. LIke most of us his alcohol intake had upticked during COVID and he joined his wife to explore what a sober trial could feel like. He by no means felt it was a problem but knew there was something there. After a sober November he experimented with the ish into December which was key in him deciding that alcohol no longer serves the man he wants to be especially as someone who values their intuition, sleep and impact on the world.
We talk about the full body thank you he has received knowing he is putting himself first and is no longer making things more difficult for himselfThe power of the math not mathing when the drink is costing you more than it's giving you and how at some point it's looking clearly at the data and making the decision.
The power of AF options and how as someone who couldn't drink alcoholic beer, finding AF beers has been so much fun but even he believes that may be off the books in the future.

“Alcohol robs you of your opportunity to cultivate your power from your own courage. When you are courageous sober you learn that you can trust yourself to do bigger and scarier things. And other things you thought were scary become less so and your edges continue to grow.”
This one is a spicy episode people so be ready. I met Whitney at a retreat where she led a session called … wait for it… Transcendent Orgasms. To say we were all terrified would be an understatement ( stay tuned till end when I share my story).
Whitney fell into accidental sobriety almost 10 years ago when she became pregnant with her son. Having her first drink at 19 and never really loving the taste, but loving how it made her less inhibited, she made the choice to not introduce alcohol to her life.
We talk about the permission slip (or an excuse) alcohol gives us to be fully expressed in a world that wants to tell us exactly how women should behave.
How it's not sober sex we are scared of but sober vulnerability and how we must create safety in our bodies and courage in our souls and cannot do that authentically if alcohol plays a role.
How you give your sexual power and expression and radiance to the care of a substance that really belongs to you and the exponential growth that comes when you take that power back.
I am obsessed and a tad uncomfortable with this conversation which means it must be spoken about.

“I said to this interventionist, ‘Look. If you take away my drinking. It's not going to stop the fact I'm a single mom or that I have this jerk of an ex-husband or that I work this crazy corporate job and that I’m barely making ends meet.’ He smiled and said, ‘No but it will change you.’”
Margy recently celebrated 19 years of sobriety on February 7th but it was just a little over four months ago when she made this a public statement.
She took her first sip at 8, disgusted with the flavor and burn but intrigued by the warmth. Her drinking was “normal” through adolescent and young adulthood but took a turn after her divorce. She was head of PTA, single soccer mom of two with a corporate job and never missed any events but also never missed a detour to the liquor store. Making it all look normal on the outside didn’t trick her family as her brother hosted a family intervention that set her sobriety on track.
Why 19 years of sobriety before being more public? At 10 years sober she shared her story on stage and was told by several influential people that she shouldn’t share that piece of her because she would be judged. She quit speaking her truth until now when her passion for creating inclusive spaces outweighs fear of judgment.
She shares the way she justified her alcohol use for years including that wine tasting was an art and part of a nice dinner to it wasn't a drunk driving accident that ended with the jaws of life but bad weather.
The power of having someone believe in you even when you don't and how seeing people doing what you don't think you can is such an inspiration. We talk about the need to create sober inclusive spaces at all events and making events less alcohol forward (even drinkers are on board with this) and how sober inclusive doesn't mean no booze but not just events focused around booze.
She shares her term Sober Wingman, those who drink but are your 100% cheerleader and support system, and what a key role they play in the sober inclusivity movement.
About Margy

“There was something more for me and it was going to take a choice to get to that point. I’m here for more. This isn’t me.”
A daughter of a workaholic and alcoholic, it made perfect sense Lauren would turn into both. After never being taught how to deal with emotion, anything that wasn’t a high was bad which led to her chasing the high with alcohol, drugs and work. After a divine moment on NYE 2018 that either came from her mother who passed away or her higher self, she knew it was time to make a change. It took multiple attempts on her own, negotiations and more before she went to rehab and has been sober since.
Now sober for almost 4.5 years Lauren is unrecognizable from years ago and now works with women on their own health journeys.
We talk about how much energy it takes to keep up with life while drinking and how once you quit you have so much energy to live the life you want.
She shares about how she had to let go of ego and the humbling experience of going to rehab and how it was so painful she knew she could never go back there.
We dive into the power of the gut-brain-mood connection and how alcohol impacts them all causing so many of the stressors we run from.

“Sober•ish means creating your own definition for you. We can create our own rules. We can create what feels good to us. That is one of the most important things, “What feels good to me?, “Am I in alignment with my highest truth?” And creating that definition for yourself.”
Unlike a lot of people, Adrienne had cut down on drinking during the pandemic as she wasn’t out entertaining clients and socializing but it was during a plant medicine experience that truly changed her relationship with alcohol.
She went in asking for clarity, energy, abundance and freedom and the answer was clear and simple, “Quit Drinking.”
She shares how even though she received this divine message she still had an internal battle of not wanting to quit and then became curious about why she was fighting for something that didn’t serve the woman she wants to be.
She shares how dating sober is different than dating while drinking and how a little alcohol can lead to second or third dates when sobriety cuts it off at one. And how this can go for friendships as well.
We discuss the power of habit stacking and how no matter if they are habits that distract you from your life or serve the life you want to lead, they'll grow and impact the version of the you, you want to be.

“My biggest fear was my children wouldn't know how to be uncomfortable and would have to find a way to escape. I don't want my girls to think motherhood is martyrdom or they have to suffer to be a parent or have to escape it.”
Starlyn’s last drink was 4 months before the start of Covid but she didn't know it was her last drink at the time. After battling anxiety for a long time she sought care and was prescribed anxiety meds and had to make the choice between continuing drinking and taking her meds. Scary in itself because her idea at the time was that drinking helped the anxiety but we know that’s not true.
In today’s podcast we talk about;
How guilt (even mom guilt!) and shame is pretty much non-existent because she owns the decisions she makes and how she acts now and when she does do things she isn’t proud of its because she is a human not because of booze.
How as someone who loves control she worked so hard to remain in control when alcohol was causing havoc on her life from eating healthy to working out as a way to prove alcohol isn't a problem. Now that it's gone she has control in a calm and productive way.
The importance of feeling your feelings and being an example to your children so they can see healthy ways of coping has been an unexpected bonus and how she feels so grateful for her sobriety during her children’s formative years.
And as a fellow “I do what I wanter” she has created no rules for her sobriety but is instead looking at it as choosing a life that doesn't involve booze.

“There was a time when I was really challenging myself. I wanted a beer but I felt guilty because I am a spiritual leader. I had to question my who, what, when, what actions. Through allowing myself to explore that gave me the answers of my true self sovereignty.”
Vaughn is a healer, a priestess and soul alchemist who works with the star energies of the cosmos for greater wisdom, light and healing.
It’s okay I didn’t know what all of this meant either but bonus is that as much as Vaughn plays in the unknown she is also super down to earth.
Vaughn isn’t sober but on a journey of finding peace with how she uses alcohol especially as a healer.
She shares how a good IPA brings her back to her humanness after leading women through profound healing which makes sense as alcohol vibes at a lower level energy.
We talk about the importance of going through the pain and not over and how when we try to drink through we prolong the pain and avoid healing.
And how self trust and self sovereignty is the key to all conscious decisions.

“My doctor asked me if I had anything else I wanted to talk about before I left and I said yeah ‘Am i an alcoholic?’”
Allyson, a guide, healer and coach, still found herself like many of us having the realization that drinking may not serve her but not committing to the change for years.
With a complicated family story deserving of a white board sketch, Allyson started drinking in her early teens but gave it up shortly after when she saw the destruction it caused. Her drinking would ebb and flow but she slowly saw it increase to the point where one two many glasses of wine led her sobbing on the floor and finding her way to sobriety, recently celebrating one year on October 22nd.
Allyson shares about how when she was presented with the idea that she was dependent on alcohol it was enough to make a switch because as an independent, driven woman she didn't want to be dependent on anything.
She shares about the labels of a drinker and that she doesn't see herself as an alcoholic or dependent but rather an avoider who used alcohol to avoid the pain she was in. We talk about how unfamiliar truly feeling your feelings can feel when we’ve been damping them down for years with alcohol.
And how mind blown she has been at the change in friendships once she became a non-drinker and that other’s responses are rarely about you but their own stuff.

It's the Holidays baby! And we all know as holly jolly as they are they can also make us feel a little grinchy.
Today I share tips for for approaching the Holidays sober•ish. They’ve worked for me. They’ve worked for clients. What’s great is they also work for other Holiday decisions.
In my second year of being sober•ish, I had 23 drinks. 13 were over November and December with 9 during the month of December.
It’s very easy to fall into old programming around the Holidays so be prepared.
I also share about my recent trip to Miami and how for me travel has a way of romanticizing alcohol.
Thank you for tuning in and if you like this podcast I would be over the moon for a share and a review!

“Is this the kind of woman I want to be? The mom I want to be? The business owner? Is alcohol moving me further or closer away from what I am actually trying to do and here to do and wanting to in this world? The answer is further. Its definitely not closer.”
This conversation is different then my others in that Liz is brand new to being sober•ish. On the day we taped she was on day 9 and is now in double digits. Go Liz!! A month or so ago I got a Voxer from Liz sharing she was going to be hosting a retreat and was going to make it a sober retreat and herself be sober in preparation and that when the mindf*$&#ery began.
She shares about how she wanted the retreat to be perfect for the women and got caught up in all the thoughts of having booze there but then realized it would be a disservice to her and her clients to not deliver a transformative experience and nothing in the transformation involved hungover humans or booze infused nights.
She shares the conversation with her and her husband about how they think they are one drink people but really they are two-three drink people so what would happen if they became no drink people and so the sober•ish journey began.
She shares how she used to view sobriety as great for others but a no for her but after feeling the amazingness of sobriety is ALL IN and has a great pool analogy to detail this!
We talk about the Holidays and her intention of not drinking as opposed to years before when it was just a given and how the power of choice is a game changer when it comes to Holiday Bliss.

“I could cry. I’m so happy I made the decision to quit. And when you make the decision from a higher place it changes something inside of you.”
Lori is new•ish in her sober journey but like most people knew for much longer drinking may not be for her. Never a heavy drinker, Lori found herself finding more and more reasons to celebrate with wine despite feeling her body reject the alcohol when she drank it leaving her feeling hopeless and with no control.
A woman who loves her people and life, it was at her sister’s birthday when they were at a poolside bar celebrating she just knew she couldn’t do this anymore.
Sober since July 25th Lori shares how she had tried to quit several times before but she was able to truly commit to that when she realized she couldn’t be drinking and connected to her higher self.
We talk about the disservice she was not only doing to herself but her clients and those around her when she was disconnected with alcohol.
She talks about the biggest surprise being she doesn't miss alcohol at all especially when at one point she had just thought this was a part of who she was.
And although she is loving the sober life she is open to a drink in the future if it ever aligns to the woman she wants to be.

“I fooled myself into believing there was no other way. If I am going to do x, y, zed, of course I have to have a bottle of wine at dinner or take my clients to a scotch tasting and partake. This is just what we do.”
Cathy is a recovering tech executive, health coach and a sober•ish woman on her way to complete sobriety.
As a high-performing woman living with an autoimmune disease Cathy worked for years to find the right solutions for her health and dialed in on those efforts but alcohol? That one took a little longer.
Cathy has a concept called Elective Pain where we make a choice to do things that we know will cause pain but the ROI is worth it. It was when the ROI plummeted that she knew alcohol was no longer a part of her health journey.
We talk about how as coaches living in integrity is extremely important and how its hard to live in integrity when you do things that feel like a betrayal to yourself.
She shares about the pervasive culture of drinking in the tech industry and how the perception of needing to drink to belong is such a strong tentacle that booze has on us.
We talk about the comparison game (not the one you normally think of) but the one where you go out for drinks keeping a mindful eye on others wondering if you can have another or if you're drinking too much. Guilty!

“I was educated and I had a mortgage. My life was great. How could I be an alcoholic? That doesn’t make any sense.”
Host of “I have 12 Questions - Conversations about the Sober Life”, Amanda Patton is 10 years into sobriety and has a passion for sharing stories of recovery “sans labels, dogma, stigma or shame.”
Yes please!
While our stories of drinking and sobriety/sober•ish could not be more different, what we do share is our passion to provide a safe, curious place for people to figure out their relationship with alcohol.
It was such a delightful conversation as Amanda is honest, vulnerable and finds humor along the way.
She shares how she didnt start drinking until she was almost 30 and then it was on like donkey kong leading to a DUI within 6 months and eventually 4 arrests but even that didn't stop her.
We talk about how we adjust our goals and our life around our drinking and that whether you're homeless or a millionaire, the realization that living a life out of alignment with who you want to be and your drinking doesn't discriminate.
She shares how sobriety is hard but so is drinking your life away so which hard leads to bigger, better things.
She shares that at her core is a need to remove shame in all things and help the underdog, knowing you may only get one shot to create a safe place for someone to find the help they need.

Last week I celebrated my two year sober•ish birthaversary! Don’t I look good for my age?
On September 13, 2021, I started a sober•ish journey that has evolved along the way. Just as I have continued to evolve as a woman who consistently puts her well being above everything else. This one decision made with intention and love for myself changed everything.
In today’s podcast I share some of my biggest insights after 2 years of living sober•ish.
I share several data points, 22, 30%, 41%, from my second year of sober•ish life and the one, 9, that still blows my mind.
I share the biggest differences between my first year of sober•ish and my second and how even though I spend most of my day talking sober•ish, it still takes up less mind space than alcohol used to.
This was such a fun episode to reflect and celebrate. Two things we must do when we do new, big things.

There are so many facets of living a sober·ish life that I have discovered along the way and I continue to do so.
Today I share my A-E of being sober·ish including:
How I assumed the edginess I had in my life was a personality defect until I quit drinking and realized it was self-induced anxiety.
How easy it is to delay quitting drinking as there is never a great time to quit drinking and how easy it is to buy into our excuses.
And how nothing feels as good as keeping a promise to yourself.

April grew up in an environment where alcohol was plentiful, never taboo and part of the fabric of her family. She had her first drink at 7 and remembers a time she went drink for drink with her dad at 14.
As she grew into adulthood April continued to see the conflict within booze. She felt a healthy fear and respect toward alcohol. She had seen what alcohol could do to someone AND that it's a way to come together. Like for most of us the mixed messages were loud and clear.
April calls it her “freshman year” at 30 where she drank more than normal but always in the back of her mind knowing the risk of alcoholism was there. Adding to it was the industry she worked in, a work hard/play hard booze environment (much like her family).
She slowly slowly started to realize that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze especially for a woman living with an autoimmune disease.
Sober since 2017, April made a declaration of sobriety. An honoring of the knowing inside that she just couldn’t keep on.
In today's episode, The Juice isn’t Worth the Squeeze, she shares how it took two years after truly realizing that drinking wasn’t great for her body to officially cut alcohol out of her life.
She shares how despite doing so much to take care of herself with her autoimmune disease, she was giving her body an incredible task of ridding itself from alcohol and she just couldn't do it anymore.
We talk about the importance of not overriding your body and ignoring it when it is yelling at you to stop.
It would mean the world to me if you subscribe, leave a review, and share this podcast with your friends, co-workers, and families. This will help the trajectory of this podcast and allow others to find their own freedom from alcohol.

A young, sober Wendell attended more AA meetings by the age of 12 than most ever will. Wanting to spend time with his pops so he accompanied his father to AA meetings all over Queens, New York for years seeing all the different ways alcohol affected people.
Those lessons and stories would stick with him AND he would still have to find his own way to being sober·ish. From drinking 8 days a week and using booze as an escape hatch to being mindful to how it impacts the way he shows up, Wendell shares with honesty his version of sobriety.
We talk about how we should all be more inclusive in our social and professional networking opportunities so we don’t leave out people who don’t drink for whatever reason they choose.
He shares how the realization that he could drink while working lead him to create his “whiskey and work” playlist that eventually led to his version of “rock bottom”.
We talk about how drinking plays into black and brown culture and how that altered his perspective of what a “drinking problem” was growing up on the streets of NYC in the 80s and 90s.
Inclusivity is something we talk about alot and we 1000% should be. Let’s also expand our way of thinking about inclusivity when it comes to events with booze. By adding a mocktail station or making it a dry event, that can go a long way in ensuring all people can partake.

Growing up the daughter of an alcoholic, drinking was never something that was appealing to Elizabeth until it became part of her job. Drinking is a part of our working culture but in this case it was literally her job as she worked in the alcohol branding industry. At the same time her career was taking off, her father was waiting for a liver transplant from his drinking.
Compartmentalizing the consequences of alcohol on her father’s health and her work promoting the product that was killing him worked for a long time until it didn't.
She shares the moment she was drinking whiskey with a client and couldn't even drink it down and that was when she knew she must make a change.
We talk about the billion dollar industry designed to make us identify with a brand and buy it again, again and again and how “pick your poison” is a real thing. She shares that although sober·ish doesn't cure mental health, it is one of her many tools in her toolkit to face depression (reminder alcohol is a depressant!)
I loved hearing her story because so many of us who started a sober·ish journey did so because our actions were not aligned with who we want to be. This is when we create long-lasting change and transformation in our life.

What happens when you decide to change your relationship with booze and your partner does not ESPECIALLY when it's been a big piece of your relationship?
Everything.
Today I share my conversation with one of my favorite humans on the planet, Dr. Tarryn McCarthy.
A former thriving functional alcoholic.
A current thriving business owner and loving human.
Tarryn has been sober for 7 years and one of the biggest things that held her back was changing the dynamic with her husband as alcohol had been a piece of their love language for years. Or so she thought.
We talk about how she spent 5-6 years fighting to be sober, riddled with self-judgment guilt and shame and how if she had known she could have been gentler and kinder to herself how much easier her journey could have been.
We talk about the fear that we won't be able to spend quality time or connect with our spouse if we don’t drink but really that’s not a connection at all and the importance of redefining how we do both to grow as a couple.
We talk about the importance of owning our own journey and not stepping in to own our spouses is such a growth opportunity for both people and how personal radical responsibility plays a role in that. And one I have been so guilty of doing!
Tarryn is a coach, a leader, a world changer who puts joy and happiness at the core of everything she does. She can be be found on Instagram at @thebizofhappiness or at www.thebizofhappiness.com. Raise your hand if you ever fibbed a bit on the medical form, “How much do you drink a week?”
Envision me and my guest Thuy raising our hands.
Thuy is a heart healer, real estate investor, mother and light in this world. She radiates joy.Thuy didn't start socially drinking until 22 and even then she could have taken it or left it but the messages of “you have to drink to be fun” were loud and clear. Slowly over the years she started to consume a little more than she may have wanted.
Earlier this year she posted that even with all her personal development work one of her goals was to NOT GIVE AN EFF… SOBER.
And she did! In today’s episode we talk about the judgment that comes with drinking from both others and more importantly ourselves. How she never needed booze to have fun but how after years of drinking we tend to think so and how the aha that she was dependent on something to have fun was a catalyst for her change.
How drinking is a form of self-sabotage and that it's often not the drink that does the most damage.
How being inclusive can feel like peer pressure and the importance of being truly conscious and aware of WHY you want the drink is her key to sober·ish living.

“The mental clarity and mental freedom has been my biggest surprise. Coming from a health background I knew I would physically feel better. Of course digestion and sleep would get better but I was surprised at the mental space it opened up. Looking back I was amazed at how much mental space alcohol took up.”
Today I chat with Erin Godin, a health coach, who like most of us who enter into our 40s did some serious self reflection asking herself the question.
Am I doing the things I need to be doing to be the woman I want to be?
There was one area of conflict so she decided to go sober in 2023. New Year. New Erin.
Almost half way through her sober journey, she has zero plans to return back to drinking, especially to her old habits of which she ranked ten steps above a social drinker. She shares about the whisper she heard that things could be different and how the foundation of that whisper was living out of her values. We talk about the power of community, whether in your home or online, that is so important when you are doing something that the world around you doesn’t understand.
And how the power of finding confidence and making a declaration for yourself sets you up for success and gives you the power to move forward.

In the final episode of the 4-part series of the myth, stories, beliefs I bought into that held me back from changing my relationship with alcohol, I share one that my mind could not move past so many times.
Sobriety has to look a certain way. It's a big one because even if I had worked through all the other BS I told myself, this one would have kept me stuck.
I knew I needed to quit drinking but all I saw around me was AA and complete sobriety for the rest of my life and both of those felt so out of reach. I felt deep in my heart the WHY of redefining my relationships but the HOW would overwhelm me every.single.time.
This to me is why I created my sober·ish journey and because of it Sober·ish Uprising. I share my three biggest shifts I had that allowed me to redefine my relationship with alcohol

“You’ve done scarier things before. Having a baby exit out of your body is way scarier than quitting alcohol for a month. Please just give it a month. Your life will totally change and you’ll be like whoa. Just give it a try”.
Erin heard whispers since 2020 “You need to stop drinking. You need to stop drinking” but like most of us excused them away. In January of 2023 gave the ole “Dry January” a try and has been sober ever since. She started sharing her journey on tiktok and has grown to 20K followers showing the curiosity we are starting to have in sobriety.
In honor of Mother’s Day we spent a lot of time talking about the intertwine of mommy and booze culture and why momming is so much easier sober. Erin is vulnerable and honest and hilarious and adorable. A quadruple threat.

“The idea of sobriety is not a one size fits all. It has to be what works for you and at the end of the day you feel good about yourself, your life and you're doing what's right for you.”
Today’s Sober·ish Uprising guest is Staci who when we met said she has been 4 years sober but some may not consider her sober. I had no idea what would come out of her mouth next. She said there are some in sobriety who think if you don’t complete the 12 steps of AA or have an non-alcoholic drink every once in a while you aren’t sober.
Wait what? This blew my mind and reinforced why we need to continue to have these conversation about what sobriety looks like because we all have to create our own path.
In today’s episode we talk about,
How despite knowing she had a problem, she made the excuse that until her sober husband recognized she had a problem it wasn't that bad.
How the thought of Italy without booze was a myth but now she knows that she can do all she ever wanted but it will just be so much better.
How sobriety sucked at the beginning and it wasn't all rainbows and puppies but it was the small wins like watching a movie sober with her kids that kept her going.

Do you ever look at your life or in the middle of a moment, good or bad, stop in disbelief and think “Is this my life?” ? It still blows my mind that I am a non-drinker. At least once weekly I think back to the past year and half and am still a little shocked that I no longer identify as a non-drinker. Because that identity was a big piece of my life for a long time until it wasn’t.
In today’s episode of Sober·ish Uprising, I share Myth #4 of what held me back from changing my relationship to alcohol, Drinking is a part of who I am.
I talk about how booze and amazing memories and experiences were so intertwined it was hard to see that it was never the booze that made them amazing and that creating a sober·ish lifestyle strengthened my identity as Holly by truly aligned and living values.

For years I waited for the right time to quit drinking. A time where I didn’t have a social engagement, a trip,a happy hour, a Tuesday. Oddly enough that time never came. Strange. There is never a good time to change your relationship with alcohol and it's ALWAYS a good time.
If you wait for the right time, you'll never start. And this goes for most changes we want to make in life.
It's the excuse that keeps on giving and is one we as humans really like to lean into.
When the circumstances are XYZ then I will XYZ.
In today’s episode of Sober·ish Uprising I share how not the right time held me back from making a change and how I bought into that myth until I knew I had to create the right time.

“But you don’t have a problem,” is often what you hear when you tell people you aren’t drinking or are reassessing your relationship with booze.
In fact it was one of the top things that held me back from redefining my relationship because according to everything around me I didn’t have a problem but everything in me knew I did.
I share the three areas that influence how we define a problem and how if there was anything else in my life that stole my time, energy and spirit like my drinking did I wouldn’t hesitate twice about cutting it out.
Today starts a 4-part series of the myth, stories, beliefs I bought into that held me back from changing my relationship with alcohol. Only YOU can decide if you have a problem. And on the flip side YOU get to define your solution.
Excuse my tech issues but the content is what needs to be shared. Friendly reminder it doesn't have to be perfect to be done.

My brother was the first person in my life that I was close to that I saw choose sobriety and do it as a power move. It felt like it came out of nowhere but also not as I knew he wanted more for his life He quit drinking on February 6, 2020, a month after he moved into our house to take care of it and our two pupsters while we lived abroad and a month before the world shut down. He knew it was an opportunity he had to move on.
Brent has been my biggest supporter and inspiration along my sober·ish journey and I know I am not alone. In today’s episode of Sober·ish Uprising we chatted on:

Welcome to the first episode of Sober·ish Uprising, a space where we share all versions of sobriety. We believe labeling sobriety as black and white is a limitation to those who know they want to do things differently. In Sober·ish Uprising we share sober·ish stories and the freedom that comes when we say no to booze. In this inaugural episode I'll share my story of finally becoming sober·ish after YEARS of questioning my intake of alcohol and trying 100s of times to quit and how a trip to Napa was my original goal of being booze free. Aw the irony. If you have any inkling of wanting to do things differently with booze, I hope you turn in. Because as cliche as it is if I can do it, you can do it!

Tracie is one of those people I met years ago and knew I would always want to keep track of. We met more than 10 years ago when we both worked in athletics and I have always been inspired by her joy for life and ability to beat to her own drum. We both have a career path that is diverse and may not make sense on paper but every stop and decision has a single thread through it. We trusted ourselves and what we wanted for our life. Along with a diverse background, we also share a joy for being childfree, love for sports and empowering other women to live their best life so it was fun to chat with her. A self-proclaimed learned extrovert (which you would never know), Tracie has a passion for supporting those who have a voice that needs to be heard. With over 20 years of branding experience, Tracie works with individuals and brands to get their story heard. As someone who felt her voice wasn't heard growing up, she is on fire to help those who feel the same way. She is also a published author, music manager and former radio show host. So many of us don't think we have a brand but that is not true. We all have a brand. We all have a reputation and image of how we show up in the world. You don't have to have a product or a business to create YOUR brand. Your brand is not only what people say about you but a guiding light for how you are living your life. We spoke about Fear of Failure vs. the Fear of success, how its great to get the guidance of those you trust but equally as important to say No to what doesn't serve you and the importance of mourning losses and moving forward. She also shared how she is handling planning and hosting a wedding during a world-wide pandemic by staying connected to what's really important. “We all have a story. Either we don’t give value to our story or we let our story have power over us because of past experiences, shame, guilt, etc. I want to show women how to flip the paradigm for themselves and harness the power of their own story so they can shine a light out in the world.”
In today's episode I spent time with certified coach April Pertruis and founder of Light Beamers, where she helps women use their story to get clear on their purpose, build their audience and grow their brand. A natural born story teller, April believes every single person has a story (or stories) to tell that will light the way for others and that if we knew the impact and power our stories could make we would shout it on the rooftop.
We talked about how acknowledging and naming fear is the key to moving through it and how sitting on our story does a disservice to everyone but mostly ourselves. She shared the #1 reason she believes women don't tell the stories of their heart and how at the end of the day your story doesn't belong to you, it's there to serve others. And a bonus, she shared a story that involved a strip club owner and mob boss! I bet you didn't think that was coming next.
This isn't just for entrepreneurs but for every woman or man out there who has a story on their heart they want to tell. It's for those who want to create meaningful connections and change the world. It's for all of us.

This is a bonus episode of Chill & Grace where you can experience first hand coaching! I was inspired by Esther Perel's podcast, Where Should we Begin?, where she shows real-time counseling session. What I love about her podcast is listening to the power of questions and listening to create aha moments and meaningful change. I wanted to show the same in coaching.
Coaching is so powerful. Its about discovering what is inside of you and the safe place to explore it. It's being open and transparent with yourself. It’s being held accountable for what you want by investing and dedicating resources to make your life work for you. Coaching is about taking the time to look at your current life and make changes to create the life you want.
In today's episode I have a session with Tameeka where we dive into Impostor Syndrome and all the things that come with it!
If you want to experience coaching for yourself, there is no time like today. Email me at holly@hollykrivo.com with subject line Tameeka rocks for a complimentary session.

Laurice had it all. Loving husband, four healthy kiddos and living in a beautiful community. She loved her life AND felt like there was something more out there for her. It wasn't until tragedy struck that she acknowledged the nudge for something more which helped her not just survive but thrive during the hardest time of her life. Laurice shares the journey of losing her husband and how realizing she had a choice over her circumstance gave her the power she needed to show up when life was not great.
We talked about acting in way that your future self will thank you for, how giving hope is not always the kind thing to do and the discernment of knowing if one is searching for answers or running from the truth. We talked about how no matter what our circumstances are, no one can take away our choice over our thoughts, actions and memories and how acknowledging a nudge or spark in our life that we want something more is not selfish, it's our responsibility.

“In the South there was a strong sense of what your future should look like. I remember thinking ‘I don’t even want to be here’. I had a hard time imagining what it would be but I knew it wasn’t what I saw around me. But It was easy to be religious and get married young. I actually don’t think I gave it much thought. I just looked around and thought that’s how we do it.”
Patti is the Founder of two companies and a powerhouse of a woman but it wasn’t always like this. She was raised in the deep south in a conservative Baptist household where the options of what she saw to be a woman did not align with what she wanted. However, she still found herself on the path of marriage at 20 and a life of what she “should” do. It wasn’t until she woke up one morning and thought “it hurts to live” that her life fell apart and she was able to reconstruct it into her most true life. She has disrupted the norm several times over her in her life and has done so with grace and transparency.
In today’s episode we talk about how the safe path isn’t always safe and the bigger question of “Is safe even an option”? We talk about how following your musts over your shoulds is a key to living your truest life and that if it feels scary you are doing it right. And we talk about how believing in yourself is a life-long focus and one that requires daily focus for incremental growth.

Sarah is a childfree woman from the UK who reached out in February to share her story on the podcast of being childfree. After reaching out, fear and unease and worry set in and it wasn't until May that we sat down for the podcast. Despite being firm in her decision to be childfree the overwhelming feeling of judgment sat heavy and it wasn't until she realized the power of the stigma that she was freed up to tell her story.
In this episode we talk about the importance of sitting in your feelings when working through big decisions and how you can make a decision that you are confident in but also have sadness with that decision. Sarah shares how as someone with a background in project management, creating a contingency plan for her decision, gave her added peace with her decision.

Remington is an ordained Presbyterian Minister and Healthcare Chaplain. She currently works with the sick and dying as well as with their support system as a hospice chaplain. She is one of the kindest, most compassionate and courageous people I know. She was also born a male.
When I met Remington about 5-6 years ago she was presenting as a man and I have witnessed her journey as she dove into the deep end of living her truth. Although her exterior has changed, her heart, values and love for people has remained the same yet expanded in so many ways once she embraced who she was meant to be.
This was such as special episode as we talk about her recognizing at the age of 9 that something was different and at the age of 13 seeing a trans woman and feeling something in her stir but in the same moment feeling the shame. Remington shares the years of pushing down who she was meant to be to live a life society instructed her to and that it wasn't until the birth of her son that she had the courage to honor her truth. We also talk about how her faith has changed over the years and how she is a better bedside chaplain now than when she was presenting as a man.
I have never seen someone trust themselves to disrupt the norm in such a big way and as gracefully as Remington has. This podcast was an honor to share with you.

Today I sit down with Shelley Pernot, published author, certified coach and founder of Babes without Babes in Austin. Spending time with like-minded people with whom you don't have to justify your decision is huge when you are doing something different from the norm. You don’t realize you miss a community of people like you, for whatever it is for you want for your life, until you see it.
We talk about how the organization started out of anger and resentment (like all good causes right?), how it wasn’t until she recognized the complexity of the parent/ child dynamic that she boldly stated her choice of being childfree and how finding your purpose is really a crock of you know what.

Bryan was making a great living in the energy industry, not totally fulfilled, but also not sure what else he would do with his life. He would drive by the campus of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and think "man if I could go back I would probably go the medical route". It never felt like a possibility, just a fun idea. He filled the void in his life running, eventually earning 4 IRONMAN titles after starting out with a work-sponsored 5K. He had no idea that the 5K would eventually propel him into leaving a secure, comfortable life in his mid-30s to attend med school.
In today's podcast Bryan shares the similarity of training for endurance sports and going through the med school process and how he is a better student later in the game than he would have been in his 20s. We talk about how the distracting chatter of what he "should" do came from himself and the way he combats those thoughts which still come into play today. We talk about how the power of mindset and showing up every day is key when making a big change and how finding your "reset" button will keep you focused and engaged.

Jessica was checking off the all the boxes for the American Dream. She had the degree, the corporate career, the hip apartment, the nice car and a great group of friends. She wasn't unhappy but had a nagging sensation there had to be something more outside of society's expectations. She had struggled for a long time with what she thought life had told her what she was supposed to do and what she internally wanted for her life. She was doing what society told her too but she had a voice in her head and heart telling her there was more.
So in 2017 she left a very nice life to chase that voice in her heart telling her it was time to travel the world and for almost three years, Jessica has lived out of a suitcase living in over 20 countries and exploring more than 30. She made the bold and courageous move to leave the good life to lead her true life. It hasn't always been easy but it's been worth it.
In today's episode we talk a lot about how self-awareness is key when making a big decision, why she chose to leave a life that was going well and she was happy with to take the chance to follow her heart and how the theme to her adventure is shedding the extra baggage both literally and metaphorically to be free in all they ways.

In her own words, you either love Spanki Mills or you don't. I for one love her.
She lives unapologetically and admits in her 40s she is still trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up. A creative on many levels, she is constantly exploring what her "day gig" is but at the core it boils down to helping women discover they can do things outside the norm, stand firm in who they are and quit putting other's expectations on themselves.
When she had her kiddos young she pushed her desires aside to be a mom, thinking her time had passed. After an "adult temper tantrum" in her 30s she has been on fire, doing the work to better herself and to create a life she is proud of on her terms. We talk about how being a people pleaser is a really hard habit to break, how sharing your story and truth no matter how painful is can be such a gift to help heal others and yourself and how she turned down a business opportunity THREE times until she realized she could do it her way.
“I had played it safe. I could tell you so many stories of ways I have shut myself down to make other people feel comfortable. Once I found my voice, I realized people either really like me or really don’t like me and that’s okay because I know where to invest my energy and efforts. Not everyone needs to like you, not everyone needs to like your message or how you do it but the ones that do are where you add value to them and take into account the value they add to you.”

Krista is a long-time friend of mine and a powerhouse of a woman. Her story read like a romance novel all the girls wanted to read. Successful career, dream husband and youth on her side for kids quickly to follow but one thing remained. Despite accomplishing all the things society told her she needed to, this wasn’t the life she wanted so she had the courage to flip the script.
A self-proclaimed “list maker/check box marker offer” Krista shares her story about how realizing she didn’t want kids led to her divorce, how rebuilding her life required a transition that lasted years and how the support of family and friends is critical when a women talks about not wanting kids.

Elizabeth started the facebook group Childfree World Travelers about 3 and 1/2 years ago and thought she was a pretty big deal when her group reached 100. The group now has over 4,000 members with 11 moderators all over the World. Elizabeth is a helper and connector at heart and understands the importance of seeing and supporting others like you. We talked about how this was Elizabeth's "coming out" as a childfree woman and how her main message is one of supporting and cheering each other on. We talked about how a feeling of being dismissed years ago for not having children still irks her, the amazing feeling she had when she firmly stepped into her decision of being childfree and how its so important to Pay Attention to your life.

When I created this podcast and my guest wish list, Kristin was on the top of the list. Kristin Moses is the Founder and Creative Director of Design Good, a full-service, high-vibe design and branding studio. More importantly she is an inspiration and friend to all who know her.
Kristin honors her truth and what she wants for her life and it is evident in everything she does. Kristin never had the desire to have children and even as a child was drawn more to growing her Snoopy snow cone stand profits as opposed to playing dolls. She has always been drawn to making her mark on the world through connection and creativity as opposed to childbearing.
In today's podcast we talk a lot about how honoring your truth will always give you the answers you need, how the idea that you have to have a child to mother is weak and what the dating scene has been like for Kristin as a childfree woman.

Welcome to 2020!
Today's episode is a little different in that I am the lucky guest! I sat down with Bridgette, my amazing coach, to share my story of living an amazing childfree life. I support and serve others to live their truth so it was important for me to share mine. We talked about how despite my resume looking like a dream job list but it wasn't until I found coaching that I found my "More" , how heavy the avoidance of making a big decision can be and how detrimental the idea of the "American Dream" can really be.
There is a lot of talk on making the decision if having children is right for you or not but I think this episode is good for anyone looking to disrupt the norm with their own decision. It's for you out there who have a tug on your heart, telling you to do something different than what is expected of you. Honor that voice.

Raif and Connie are a married, childfree couple in London, who run the Goodlett Guide, a blog dedicated to their childfree relationship, travel and lifestyle. I was drawn to their honesty on their childfree life from joining the mile high club to Raif's decision to get a vasectomy at 25 so that he could take control of his childfree future. Raif is the first male I have had on my podcast and brought such a new element to the conversation. We discussed the double standard men and women face being childfree, life as a childfree couple in London and how even though they run a blog on being childfree there are still those who believe they will have kids.

I was immediately drawn to her page for its positive messages, humor and capacity to share her joy of being childfree. We discussed her process of becoming childfree, the importance of supporting the choice of ALL women to have kids or not and our biggest triggers we have when talking to those who question our decision to be childfree.
