Glen Burtnik, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is best know for his stints with Styx in the early 1990's and early 2000's. From the Jersey Shore, his big break came when he was selected to play a lead role in the Broadway musical review - Beatlemania. As a songwriter, Glen wrote numerous songs for many artists that received a great deal of airplay. He's recorded over a half-dozen solo albums and with Styx, you'll find him on two studio releases and several live recordings. Since 2009, he's been the frontman for The Orchestra, made up of musicians that played with the Electric Light Orchestra and Electric Light Orchestra Part II. Rhett Miller co-founded the Old 97's in 1992 and the band has retained all of their original members since then. Considered by many as pioneers of the Alt-Country movement, today their music has elements of Americana, Indie Rock, and Power Pop. They were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Americana Music Honors & Awards ceremony. Randle Chowning founded the Ozark Mountain Daredevils in 1971. As Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist, he was with the band during their heyday from the early to mid 1970's. After leaving the band Randle teamed with fellow Daredevil bandmate, Larry Lee, to form Beyond Reach. Throughout the years he has also released numerous solo projects including many of his friends. His latest compilation is titled Sworn Testimony. Randle joins your host, Ray White, and takes you down memory lane from his Daredevil days in the 70's until now. Robin Batteau is a renowned violinist, singer/songwriter and producer. He's played with Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston and Judy Collins - just to name a few. Clive Davis, the legendary music mogul, signed Robin and his brother David to a recording contract back in 1971, releasing "Batteau" on Columbia Records. Robin later hooked up with David Buskin forming the folk/rock duo of Buskin & Batteau. You'll also find him in the band Pierce Arrow, earlier in his career. A Grammy and Emmy award winner, his most listened to work was that of television and radio advertising jingles for McDonalds, Coca-Cola, Chevrolet and many more companies. Robin's latest solo project dives deep into his Greek studies, giving him inspiration for the album Banned in Sparta. Several of his friends including Tom Paxton and Livingston & Kate Taylor join him. Ray White, a multi-award winning program director, captures many of Robin's career highlights in this episode. Kim Simmonds stood among the world's greatest Blues Rock musicians. He founded and was the leader of Savoy Brown until his passing on December 13, 2022. Throughout the years Kim released over two dozen Savoy Brown albums and several as a solo artist, too. His wife Debbie Simmonds and friend Bob Schaffner join us to talk about the release of his book, Street Corner Talking, The Autobiography of Kim Simmonds that was released in January of 2026. They touch on several of the highlights of Kim's life and career. As a special treat, Ray White digs back in our archives and shares part of our interview with Kim, conducted in 2007, when we talked about Savoy Brown and then new CD release, Steel. Renaissance, an iconic trend setting band was launched in 1969, combining a fusion of rock, folk, classical and jazz genres. The bands co-founders included Jim McCarty and Keith Relf, who launched The Yardbirds. A couple years after forming Renaissance, Jim focused back on music with The Yardbirds and vocalist Annie Haslam carried on as the focal point of the band. The Wood Brothers, Oliver and Chris, have emerged as one of the innovative American roots music bands on today's scene. Each concentrated on differant genres of music before coming together to form their band. Oliver leaned towards Blues and Rhythm & Blues, while Chris was more on the Jazz Fusion side of music. Together, five of their collective albums have landed on the charts. In 2018, they were nominated for the Grammys' Best Americana Album award for their One Drop Of Truth project. The Wood Brothers' brand new CD is Puff of Smoke. John Waite launched his career in 1975 as a member of The Babys. After 5 studio albums the original group disbanded and his solo career was launched. In 1988, John fronted Bad English, a super group with members that had outstanding careers with Journey and Styx. In 1995, John returned to his solo work and later joined a tour with Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band. Producer and host Ray White caught up with John back in 2011 to talk about his then current album Rough & Tumble, the groups Bad English and The Babys and he shared his insights on Ringo. John's latest project is an EP titled Anything. In our showcase segment we look back at the career of Larry Lee, an awesome vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who was best known for his work with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Larry was also in several other bands including Vinyl Kings, Beyond Reach, Jimmy Buffet's Coral Reefer Band and he released several solo albums, too. His work as a producer, included projects for Alabama, K.T. Oslin, Juice Newton and dozens more. Larry passed away on May 10, 2025. Great vocalists are featured on this episode from The CAT!

Cy Curnin has been the frontman for The Fixx since they were formed in 1980. Brad Gillis has been the guitarist for Night Ranger since they were formed in 1982. Throughout the years, the band has released over a dozen studio albums and collectively had two Platinum and three Gold releases. Joe Bonamassa is constantly listed towards the top of the lists of the best guitarists in the world. At the age of twelve he opened for the legendary B.B. King and was introduced to the world. Adolfo "Fito" de la Parra has been the "classic" drummer for Canned Heat during the past 57 years. Having played at Woodstock in 1969 (Episodes 180 and 181) he has led a resurgence of the band during the past few years. Their latest album Finyl Vinyl has garnered tremendous accolades and propelled them towards the top of the Blues Rock charts and album of the year mentions. Multi-award winning program director Ray White spent time with Fito in July of 2024 to touch on the many highlights of the band during their many decades. A tribute to Phil Lesh, founding member and bassist/vocalist for the Grateful Dead, who had a unique style of playing a six-string bass guitar. His career kicked off when he joined his friend Jerry Garcia in The Warlocks, which ultimately morphed into the Grateful Dead in the mid-1960's. Many consider Phil as an innovator on the bass. Phil wrote or co-wrote many of the Grateful Dead's songs throughout the years. He was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 as a member of the band. After the Grateful Dead disbanded, Phil continued his career in the band's offshoots; The Other Ones, The Dead, Furthur and Phil Lesh and Friends. Phil passed away on October 25, 2024. On this tribute episode, we're join by Phil's friends Bill Payne of Little Feat and Duane Betts - son of Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band fame, who have played with Phil during his career. Greg Kihn released over 20 albums during his career and landed 11 songs on the Top 100 and/or mainstream rock charts in the U.S. Originally from Baltimore, MD, Greg moved to California in 1972 and laid the groundwork for his successful career. You'd also find him on the airwaves hosting many radio shows. Greg passed away on August 13, 2024, after a long illness. Jorma Kaukonen, guitarist/singer/songwriter, recorded with Janis Joplin in 1964. In 1965, he joined Jefferson Airplane. You'll find him on every album that they released. In 1969, Jorma went on to form Hot Tuna with Jack Casady, who still performs today. In 1974, he recorded his first solo album, of which there are over a dozen studio albums released today, with the latest titled One More Lifetime. In 1996, Jorma was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Jefferson Airplane. In this episode we feature Ray White's March of 2009 interview, from our archives. Jourma shares his insights on some of his old band members, the latest with Hot Tuna, his River Of Time CD along with his feelings about the Americana music genre. Joanne Shaw Taylor is a dynamic singer/guitarist/songwriter who has blazed a trail to the top of the Blues Rock genre. Discovered by Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics at the age of 16, she's released 12 solo albums throughout her rising music career. In 2021, she teamed up with guitar wizard Joe Bonamassa and started recording on his record label. Among her accolades you'll find Joanne named Best Female Vocalist (twice) at the British Blues Awards and also tapped for Songwriter of the Year. Leon Medica, bassist and producer of LeRoux, co-founded the band in 1977. Throughout the years the band was featured on music television shows including Solid Gold, The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. They had 7 songs land on Billboard's Top 100 chart. Leon won an American Music Award for producing a song from the movie "Dirty Dancing" and also is a Grammy nominated musician who played on an album with blues great Tab Benoit. This tribute to Leon, who passed away on June 9, 2024, includes our interview with him from July of 2008 which touched on LeRoux, the Louisiana rock sound and LeRoux's album, Ain't Nothing But A Gris Gris. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band hit their stride in the early and mid-1980's with four Top 10 songs. Many people know the band from the tremendous success of the Eddie and The Cruisers movie soundtrack. Throughout the years, that band had 11 singles land on the music charts. Multi-award winning program director Ray White sat down with John in January of 2012, shortly after the passing of his good friend Clarence Clemons - at a tribute show, to talk about The Big Man and the Jersey Shore music vibe. John's recently released several singles by his band. In our showcase segment we feature another Jersey band that's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - Bon Jovi. Franke Previte formed Franke and the Knockouts in 1980, who had three Top 40 singles and two Top 50 albums. Franke co-wrote music for the hit soundtrack Dirty Dancing featuring the Academy Award winning "The Time of my Life." He also co-wrote "Hungry Eyes," which was a #1 U.S. Adult Contemporary hit sung by Eric Carmen. Franke and the Knockouts most recent album was titled The Complete Collection. We interviewed Franke in June of 2011. In our Showcase Segment, we feature Gerry Beckley (interviewed in Episode 71) of America, who has released 10 solo albums including his 2022 release Aurora. In 2024, he's dropped several singles including "Crazy" and we expect a new album from him soon. Jai Johanny Johanson aka Jaimoe is the only living original member of the Allman Brothers Band, that was formed in 1969. During his illustrious career he was also a member of Sea Level. Jaimoe presently leads a jazz-rock group called Jaimoe's Jasssz Band. In 1995, he was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Allman Brothers Band. Award winning program director Ray White caught up with Jaimoe at his hotel in September of 2013 to talk about his early days as a musician, hooking up with Duane Allman and his most recent release Jaimoe's Jasssz Band's Renaissance Man. In our showcase segment, we look back at the career of guitarist/singer/songwriter Dickey Betts who was a mainstay in the Allman Brothers Band for many years and launched several other bands after his departure. Don Dokken launched Dokken in 1978. The Grammy nominated band has had three Platinum albums and ten Top 40 hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock charts. Paul Nelson, a guitarist/record producer/songwriter won a Grammy award for Best Blues Album in 2015 for Johnny Winter's Step Back release. Paul's played with the elite guitarists in the world and was a phenomenal guitarist himself. He produced albums and toured with Johnny Winter for several years until Johnny passed in 2014. Working with many of the blues and rock greats, he also found time to release several of his own projects. In November of 2023, multi-award winning program director Ray White hung out with Paul to talk about his guitar training, several of his projects and hooking up with Johnny Winter. I was sad to learn that Paul passed away on March 10, 2024, while out on tour. He was a great talent that will be missed by many. Fred LeBlanc is a co-founder of Cowboy Mouth, a Louisiana band formed in 1990. Along with drumming, he's the vocalist for the band too. Throughout the years the band has performed for over 10 million people. Before forming Cowboy Mouth, Fred was in the "cowpunk" band Dash Rip Rock. Jeff "Skunk" Baxter is one of the elite guitarists today. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Doobie Brothers. His career on the national scene was launched in 1968 as a member of Ultimate Spinach. In 1972, Skunk became a founding member of Steely Dan, playing on their first three albums. Joining the Doobies in 1974, after doing session work on several of their earlier albums, he was with the band until 1979. Most of his musical career was dedicated to doing session work for many other bands and artists. Artimus Pyle was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 as the drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd. His excellent, straight ahead, drumming can be found on 7 of the bands albums. In addition, Artimus has released a handful of solo albums with his Artimus Pyle Band. He was among the survivors of the tragic 1977 plane crash that killed the bands front man - Ronnie Van Zant and others. In Ray White's July of 2023 interview with Artimus, he talked about how he obtained his first name, his time with Skynyrd and his upcoming album. He wrote the documentary movie Steet Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash, that was released in 2020. In our showcase segment we pay tribute to Gary Rossington, Lynyrd Skynyrd's founding member and guitarist/songwriter, who passed away on March 5, 2023. He was the longest surviving original member of the band. Gary also led the Rossington - Collins Band who had a Top 20 Billboard album in 1980 titled Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere, that garnered a Gold Record award. David Pack was vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for Ambrosia for 23 years. Many of the bands' hits were written by him. As a solo artist, David has a handful of albums he's released. His other projects include producer for dozens of world-class artists. Together, all of his projects have sold over 50 million units globally. Multi-award winning program director Ray White sat down with David in July of 2011, who shared a highlight with Ambrosia, his work as producer, the diversity of the music projects he's been involved with and his The Secret of Movin' On album. Steve Kilbey, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and co-founder of The Church has headed the Australian band since its formation in 1980. Releasing 25 albums throughout their career, the band was tapped for the Australian Recording Industry Association's Hall of Fame in 2010. Steve has also released over a dozen solo albums and is a prolific songwriter. The Church has landed on the U.S. singles charts on several occastions with "Under The Milky Way" garnering enormous international success. Keith Reid was best known as the co-founder of Procol Harum and their lyricist and songwriter. He's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the song "A Whiter Shade of Pale." Towards the end of his career, he led The Keith Reid Project, who released two albums, the last one titled In My Head. Keith passed away on March 23, 2023. Multi-award winning program director Ray White hooked up with Keith in April of 2009 to talk about his The Common Thread album, which included a highly-impressive group of singers including John Waite, Chris Thompson and Southside Johnny. His final release with Procol Harum was The Well's On Fire, in 2003.
Joseph Williams, lead vocalist for Toto, comes from a musicial family that includes his father - famed film composer John Williams. Growing up in the music industry introduced Joseph to many other musicians and styles of music. Throughout his career, he has released nearly a dozen solo albums, not to mention the half dozen with Toto and numerous guest appearences on several dozen more. Peter Mayer has been a member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band since 1989 as lead guitarist and background vocalist. He's co-written many songs with Jimmy throughout the years too! Dean Daughtry, keyboardist, was with the Classics IV during their heyday in the late 1960's when the band had three songs reach the Top 5 on the pop charts. In 1970, Dean was a co-founder of the Atlanta Rhythm Section (ARS) with other members of The Candymen, with whom Dean was also a member of in his early years. For nearly 50 years Dean was a mainstay in ARS, which has had six Top 20 hits. Dean passed away on January 26, 2023. On this episode multi-award winning program director Ray White reaches back in the archives and features his May of 2010 interview with Dean before he took the stage. Jim Babjak, guitarist/vocalist, co-founded The Smithereens in 1980. The band was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2018. Throughout the years, the band has released over a dozen studio albums. After lead singer/guitarist Pat DiNizio passed away in 2017, the other original members of the band have incorporated "guest vocalists," Marshall Crenshaw and Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms to help persevere and carry on the bands legacy. Considered one of the premier guitarists, Kim and Savoy Brown have released nearly 50 albums throughout his career. In this tribute to Kim, who passed away on December 13, 2022, we reach back in our archives and share our April of 2007 interview with him. John Wetton left his footprint on many of progressive rock's greatest bands: Asia, King Crimson, U.K., Roxy Music, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash, just to name a few. A singer, songwriter and bassist, his greatest fame came as frontman of the 1980's supergroup Asia. John passed away, much too young, on January 31, 2017. On this episode we celebrate John and the 40th anniversary of the debut Asia album that sold over 10 million albums worldwide and was Billboard magazine's #1 album of 1982. We feature multi-award winning program director Ray White interviewing John in May 2011, where he talks about Asia's Phoenix album, that brought together all four of the orginial members in the studio for the first time since 1983. Brett Scallions was the original lead singer and guitarist for Fuel, who produced multi-platinum albums in the late 1990's and early 2000's. He was with the band for 23 years, until 2020. Carmine Appice is a legendary drummer that's influenced many of rocks' most famous drummers. He launched on the music scene back in 1967 as a founding member of the ground breaking band, Vanilla Fudge. His storied career included launching Cactus, Beck/Bogert/Appice and playing with Rod Stewart on 4 of his albums. You can find Carmine playing in numerous other bands and on nearly 100 albums. In September of 2014, award-winning program director Ray White sat down with Carmine at his hotel to talk about several of Carmine's recording projects and his future plans at that time. Andy Fraser was originial member and bassist for the band Free, who were formed in 1968. He was just 15 years old at the time. He wrote the mega-hit "All Right Now" for the band and also "Every Kinda People" that Robert Palmer recorded in 1978. Andy was also briefly in John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers group. Martin Turner co-founded Wishbone Ash in 1969 as their bass player and vocalist. The band was known for their twin lead guitars, melodic songwriting and complex musical arrangements. Martin's heydays with the band lasted through 1980. Henry Gross started as an original member of the 50's rock and roll revival group, Sha Na Na in 1969. In that same year, the band played Woodstock. After a year with them, Henry signed with a major record label and built his career ever since then. Along with his Top 10 hit "Shannon", Henry's singles have launched on the charts an additional 8 times. He has released nearly two dozen albums throughout his career. His One-Hit Wanderer show & album garnered marvelous reviews. The Yardbirds formed in London in 1963 and launched the careers of three of the greatest guitarists in Rock and Roll history - Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. Inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, the band had 5 Top 20 hits in the U.S. Their albums landed on the charts 6 times leading to the band being named by Rolling Stone magazine as "100 Greatest Artists of All Time." We sat down with drummer and co-founder Jim McCarty in May of 2010 to talk about the historic band and their last studio album Birdland. The group still performs today and their latest release, captured in concert, is titled Making Tracks. Al Stewart is a phenomenal folk-rock musician who has 16 studio albums, since the late 1960's. After releasing 6 albums he hit paydirt on his Year of The Cat release in 1976. The album was certified platinum and to celebrate its 45th anniversary, a remastered release has recently been issued which includes previously unreleased concert tracks. Ray White, the CAT's award-winning program director, sat down with Al in September of 2011 to talk about his last studio album Sparks of Ancient Light and several highlights during his storied career. Pablo Cruise, formed in 1973, had two platinum albums and five Top 25 singles during their career. Since the mid-1980's the band periodically played for special events and occasions. Paul Cotton, a mainstay in Poco for nearly 40 years, is featured in this tribute episode. Starting his nationally recognized music career with Illinois Speed Press in 1968, he went on to replace Jim Messina in Poco in 1970. Paul, along with Poco's co-founder Rusty Young, were at the forefront of the band during their most commercially successful years. Paul passed away on August 1, 2021, just a few months after Rusty's passing (Episode103). John Hall co-founded Orleans in 1972 and has played a key part in the band, on and off, as a songwriter, singer and guitarist, throughout their history. Rusty Young, co-founder and only consistent member of the band Poco during their career (1968-2021), passed away on April 14, 2021. His career was launched when he was tapped to play steel guitar for Buffalo Springfield. Shortly thereafter, he formed Poco with several of Buffalo Springfield's band members. Rusty was a talented multi-instrumentalist and an excellent vocalist. Poco had eighteen albums land on the charts with their Legend and Legacy albums going "Gold." Their last studio album was All Fired Up and in 2017, Rusty released his only solo album, during his illustrious career, titled Waiting For The Sun. He was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in in 2013. Multi-award winning program director Ray White had numerous opportunities during the past 12 years to catch up with Rusty. We feature highlights of our favorite time spent with him, in December of 2009, when Rusty shares his insights into the formation of Poco, the reunion album "Legacy," a future goal, and thoughts on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Geoff Downes work as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer has had him at the top of the progressive rock genre for over 40 years. Many know him as the founding member of the supergroup Asia, but his family tree also includes Yes and The Buggles. Music collaborations have also played a key role throughout Geoff's career. You'll find him on projects with the late John Wetton in Icon and Chris Braide in Downes Braide Association (DBA). Leslie West kicked off his musical career on Long Island, NY as a founding member of The Vagrants in the mid-1960's. Just before the Woodstock Festival in 1969, Leslie formed Mountain landing a spot on the festival lineup. The rest, as they say, is history. Mountain has released 8 studio albums and as a solo artist, Leslie's had 16 releases. He was also a member of the supergroup West, Bruce & Laing. Joe Puerta was a co-founder of the band Ambrosia in 1970. As bassist and vocalist, Joe has also written many songs for the band, too. Starting out, the band's sound had more of a progressive rock feel, but transformed to an adult contemporary vibe landing 5 Top 40 hit singles. In 1984, Joe was tapped to be an original member of Bruce Hornsby's band- The Range. The band won a Grammy as "Best New Artist" in 1987. As the 1990's approached, Joe returned to Ambrosia and has been touring and recording with them since. Multi-award winning program director Ray White caught up with Joe in October of 2015 to talk about his early music endeavors, Ambrosia's prog transition, dynamics of his song writing and his days with Bruce Hornsby. Southside Johnny has been a leader of the Jersey shore music scene, that includes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Bon Jovi, since the mid-1970's. Singer/Songwriter Bruce Sudano stepped towards the big time when he met Tommy James of Tommy James and The Shondells in the late 1960's. As co-founder of Alive 'N Kickin', Bruce had a Top 10 hit with "Tighter and Tighter" in 1970. His next band was Brooklyn Dreams, formed in the late 70's the group released a handful of albums, but many knew them due to their work with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer Donna Summer - who Bruce married in 1980. Drummer Chris Frantz co-founded the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Talking Heads and the Tom Tom Club. Bassist Tina Weymouth, Chris' wife, joins him in both bands. Gary Wright helped to establish the synthesizer as a leading instrument in rock and pop music in the mid 1970's.
