Jesus teaches through three images to wrap up the sermon on the mount. They are a brilliant, intentional illustration of how we can implement everything we've learned this past year.
"Ask and it WILL be given to you; seek and you WILL find; knock and the door WILL be opened to you." Matthew 7:7. Really? Is this how anyone's prayer life works? What in the world was Jesus talking about? This is a troubling verse, unless Jesus was talking about something else.
Matthew 7 is as close to Karma as Jesus gets. Jesus is brilliant, and the way he weaves his teachings together is so, so helpful. Check it out.
Jesus wants to teach us how to make the new become normal, and the normal to become second nature.
These five verses get tossed out the window pretty quick when real life hits. Maybe that's because we don't see things as we should.

Jesus rose from the dead, but everyone had already seen that happen! Lazarus was dead for four days, when suddenly he was alive again. Jesus shouted, "Lazarus, come out!" and Lazarus walked out of his tomb. But what if Lazarus decided to stay? What if he decided to make the most of the tomb- to just hide in there.... maybe even decorate it?
Jesus speaks to the hunger and thirst we each have for a better world. He talks about the kind of hunger and thirst we can feel in our bones.
Jesus speaks to the age-old fear that many of us have... that we won't get our slice of the pie.
Jesus told a story about two men who obeyed their bibles... and blew it. Then they were outdone by a half-breed with a heart like God's.
Who is it that actually leads the good life? What do the beatitudes have to do with that?

The bumper stickers tell us, "Christians aren't perfect... just forgiven." Just forgiven? Is that the whole story? Are we just a bunch of sinners, or is there so much more to the story than that?
Christians were originally referred to as "followers of the way". In this message we will explore how an empire was revolutionized by a small group of people who simply lived out the way of Jesus.
God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life... but if you don't believe in Him and cooperate with Him in a prescribed way, he will torture you forever.
Is that the "good news"? Is that what God is like? A loving father one moment, but then a holy deity forced to punish your wickedness forever? We explored those questions and a few others in this discussion.
