Children's Radio Foundation
A not-for-profit organization based in Cape Town, South Africa, the Children’s Radio Foundation (CRF) gives young people the skills and tools to make their voices heard and to engage in dialogue about important community issues. Working in six African countries, CRF partners with local radio stations and community organizations to train youth as radio reporters and broadcasters.
We see radio as a tool for talk—as a means of facilitating conversations outside of everyday interactions and providing a sounding board for local concerns and realities. Our radio training workshops set the stage for young people to share their experiences, to interview their peers and community members, and through regular radio broadcasts, to reach out to their community. CRF has over 1700 trained youth radio reporters in operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia, working in schools, community centers, hospitals, and radio stations.

Under Physical Abuse, during the period under review, the country recorded 3,055 cases translating to 62% of all the criminal reports made. Out of these, 2,228 were women translating to73%, 540 were men translating to 18%,152 were boys translating to 5%, while 135 were girls translating to 4% of all the criminal reports made compared to 2,369 cases in 2020 showing an increase of 686 cases translating to 28.9% increase. Out of 3,055 Physical Abuse cases, 2,691 Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (O.AB.H) cases were recorded country wide representing 88%. Out of the 2,691 Assault OABH cases, 2,179 were females translating to 81%, while 512 were men translating to 19 %.
Child health is a state of physical, mental, intellectual, social and emotional well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Healthy children live in families, environments, and communities that provide them with the opportunity to reach their fullest developmental potential.
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may be natural, such as through variations in the solar cycle. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
Anxiety disorders are a type of mental health condition. Anxiety makes it difficult to get through your day. Symptoms include feelings of nervousness, panic and fear as well as sweating and a rapid heartbeat. Treatments include medications and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Although bullying is sometimes seen as “a part of growing up” or “kids being kids,” imagine the kid who is picked on every day, whether physically, socially, or through cyber-bullying. Think about Rebecca Sedwick, the 12-year-old who committed suicide in Florida following a year of bullying at the hands of two young girls. To Rebecca, the bullying was so serious and distressing that she took her own life.

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.
More than just a bout of the blues, depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply "snap out" of it. Depression may require long-term treatment. But don't get discouraged. Most people with depression feel better with medication, psychotherapy or both.
One of the most prevalent manners in which children and young people’s rights are violated, harmful traditional practices are forms of violence which are accepted as part of the cultural practice in specific countries and contexts. At Coram International we work to eradicate these harmful practices through conducting research into the root causes, implementing transformative programmes of change, and consulting on local and national legislation regarding each individual practice.
In tandem with the ever-increasing aging population in low and middle-income countries, the burden of dementia is rising on the African continent. Dementia prevalence varies from 2.3% to 20.0% and incidence rates are 13.3 per 1000 person-years with increasing mortality in parts of rapidly transforming Africa.

People with schizophrenia require lifelong treatment.
Individuals with the binge eating and purging type may binge on large amounts of food or eat very little.
Many children exposed to violence in the home are also victims of physical abuse.1 Children who witness domestic violence or are victims of abuse themselves are at serious risk for long-term physical and mental health problems.2 Children who witness violence between parents may also be at greater risk of being violent in their future relationships. If you are a parent who is experiencing abuse, it can be difficult to know how to protect your child.

The Charter of the United Nations includes among its basic principles the achievement of international cooperation in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion (Art. 1, para. 3). In 1948, three years after the adoption of the Charter, the General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,(1) which has served as guiding principles on human rights and fundamental freedoms in the constitutions and laws of many of the Member States of the United Nations. The Universal Declaration prohibits all forms of discrimination based on sex and ensures the right to life, liberty and security of person; it recognizes equality before the law and equal protection against any discrimination in violation of the Declaration.

Food and agriculture together represent the number one cause and also most hopeful solution area for climate change. We have made the journey more straightforward for companies.
In our initial survey of the industry, nearly every natural product business leader we spoke with agreed that they, and the industry, can and must do more. But the majority also shared that they were not clear on the most important thing to do. So we have identified the nine priority commitment areas where companies can have the most impact.
Zambia recorded its first confirmed COVID-19 case in mid-March, and as of mid-August nearly 10,000 additional cases have been reported. In an effort to contain the virus, the government of Zambia has taken preventive measures, including closing schools. This in turn has disrupted learning for over 4.2 million students. To mitigate the impact of this situation and ensure students can continue to learn, the Ministry of General Education (MoGE) has been working with partners to implement a COVID-19 emergency response and recovery plan.
Zambia received a US$10 million COVID-19 emergency grant from GPE to support interventions that are fully aligned with this plan. GPE acted swiftly by processing and approving the government’s application within a few days of receiving it, as supporting education systems from the onset of the pandemic is the best way to protect the most vulnerable students.
The GPE-funded program promotes continuous learning for students during the stay-at-home orders, along with support for a sustainable and safe learning environment across the country when schools re-open. Additionally, the program aims to fortify Zambia’s education system to help the country respond effectively to future crises.

For example, projected increases in temperatures, changes in precipitation patterns, changes in extreme weather events, and reductions in water availability may all result in reduced agricultural productivity

REIMAGINE. RECREATE. RESTORE. For too long, we have been exploiting and destroying our planet’s ecosystems. Every three seconds, the world loses enough forest to cover a football pitch and over the last century we have& destroyed half of our& wetlands. As much as 50 per cent of our coral reefs have already been lost and up to 90 per cent of coral reefs could be lost by 2050, even if global warming is limited to an increase of 1.5°C.
Ecosystem loss is depriving the world of carbon sinks, like forests and peatlands, at a time humanity can least afford it. Global greenhouse gas emissions have grown for three consecutive years and the planet is one pace for potentially catastrophic climate change.
The emergence of COVID-19 has also shown just how disastrous the consequences of ecosystem loss can be. By shrinking the area of natural habitat for animals, we have created ideal conditions for pathogens – including coronaviruses – to spread.

In recent months, there has been a growing discussion of whether or not COVID-19 will support new sustainability transitions (Cohen 2020; Bodenheimer and Leidenberger 2020; Goffman 2020). As Cohen (2020) writes, COVID-19, “is simultaneously a public health emergency and a real-time experiment in downsizing the economy.” We have been particularly interested in the impact of COVID-19 on the fashion industry ‒ one of the most wasteful consumer industries in the world (Bick, Halsey, and Ekenga 2018) ‒ and if the ongoing pandemic will support a sustainability transition. In this policy brief, we explore ongoing changes within the fashion industry during the COVID-19 era, and assess their impact on sustainability initiatives and the potential for a just transition. FROM the time Lusaka was declared a capital city in 1935, it has gradually but steadily grown into a bustling metropolitan. A decade and half later, the city has experienced rapid increase in population and infrastructure within the central business district and the peri-urban areas. The unplanned settlements that have uncontrollably sprung up in the past two decades have given rise to population explosion. In turn, population growth has resulted in indiscriminate disposal of plastic and other litter which is now endangering the environment and making it almost impossible to preserve natural and essential resources such as ground water, plants, trees, and natural fertility of soil. Every day Lusaka City Council (LCC) generates more tonnes of garbage than any other city or three times that of what other cities like Ndola generate. The original beauty of townships and the central business district in the country has been spoilt over the years by the increasing amount of litter. Lusaka city population has been increasing and hence the task of dealing with waste has become more challenging. According to the Zambia Environmental Management Agency, in 1996 Lusaka residents were making 220,000 tonnes (t) of waste per year and it was believed that by 2011, this quantity would leap to 530,000t with more big quantities of waste such as plastic. The local authority spends millions of kwacha a year on litter control. It has been estimated that the amount of litter dropped throughout Lusaka is increasing, so the cost is likely to continue to rise. And countrywide, the local authorities have implemented the "Make Zambia Clean" campaign to provide a solution to the prevailing garbage crisis but there has been no positive yield yet. According to John London, e-how writer, a littered ecosystem is a threat to its inhabitants. He further defines litter as the careless disposal of unwanted items. London says it is usually done on an individual basis and occurs when an individual disposes of an item in an improper manner like throwing a cigarette butt on the ground instead of an ash tray or a plastic bag being left to blow through the streets. Among the most common non decomposable trash largely being littered but can be recycled is plastic disposable bottles, plastic bags, jars, cups, shoes and other forms of plastic which have continued to create toxic pollution at every stage. Sadly, plastic is a material that the earth cannot decompose but can be recycled to reduce the extent of pollution. All plastic materials that have ever been manufactured still exit only that some have been buried while others recycled.

Elephantiasis is also known as lymphatic filariasis. It's caused by parasitic worms, and can spread from person to person through mosquitoes. Elephantiasis causes swelling of the scrotum, legs, or breasts. Elephantiasis is considered a neglected tropical disease (NTD).
Why are some tropical diseases called "neglected"? The people who are most affected by these diseases are often the poorest populations, living in remote, rural areas, urban slums or conflict zones. Neglected tropical diseases persist under conditions of poverty and are concentrated almost exclusively in impoverished populations in the developing world.
Lacking a strong political voice, people affected by these tropical diseases have a low profile and status in public health priorities. Lack of reliable statistics and unpronounceable names of diseases have all hampered efforts to bring them out of the shadows. They include dengue, rabies, blinding trachoma, Buruli ulcer, endemic treponematoses (yaws), leprosy (Hansen disease), Chagas disease, human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), leishmaniasis, cysticercosis, dracunculiasis (guinea-worm disease), echinococcosis, foodborne trematode infections, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis (river blindness), schistosomiasis (bilharziasis), soil-transmitted helminthiases (intestinal worms).
Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), such as dengue, lymphatic filariasis, trachoma, and leishmaniasis, are called "neglected," because they generally afflict the world's poor and historically have not received as much attention as other diseases.
They are in a group of 20 disease conditions and are closely associated with poverty, poor sanitation, poor safe water resources, sub standard housing conditions and deficient health care system. They might have been forgotten by some people or given less attention but they exist, and are actively attacking people some of whom are unaware of the disease, symptoms and devastating health impact.
ZAMBIA, like many other tropical settings is currently grappling the elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases like Schistosomiasis.
Schistosomiasis, also known as bilharziasis or snail fever, is a primarily tropical parasitic disease caused by the larvae of one or more of five types of flatworms or blood flukes known as schistosomes.
It is prevalent in tropical and subtropical areas, especially in poor communities without access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation; it is endemic in almost all the 108 districts of Zambia.
According to the Zambia Bilharzia Control Program (ZBCP), 2007, close to 3.8 million people in Zambia have bilharzias. The high burden provinces being; Lusaka 49.57%, Eastern 16.66%, Western 15%, Southern 13.62%, and Copperbelt 2.5%.
The infection is more prevalent in rural districts especially those close to water bodies such as lakes, rivers, streams and dams.
Trachoma is an infectious disease caused by bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. The infection causes a roughening of the inner surface of the eyelids. This roughening can lead to pain in the eyes, breakdown of the outer surface or cornea of the eyes, and eventual blindness.

The speedy rate of change in the environmental and socio-economics factors may increase the incidence, prevalence and risk of schistosomiasis infections in Zambia. However, available information does not provide a comprehensive understanding of the biogeography and distribution of the disease, ecology and population dynamics of intermediate host snails. The current study used an information-theoretical approach to understand the biogeography and prevalence schistosomiasis and identified knowledge gaps that would be useful to improve policy towards surveillance and eradication of intermediate hosts snails in Zambia.

This is because young people play a critical role in the further spread of the pandemic in that they can be engaged as peer educators that can appeal to their communities to take action.
