Quietly Ambitious: Recent Episodes

Ruth Poundwhite

Quietly Ambitious is a podcast for sensitive and ambitious online business owners and creatives, that dives deep into how it really feels – and what it really takes – to build a business that honours our whole self, unapologetically. And that includes who we are, how we feel, what we really desire, the impact we want to create and – importantly – the money we want to make.

Expect real and honest conversations that go straight to the heart of what really matters, plus solo episodes from me about the always-rewarding, and often challenging, journey of self-expression, business building and owning those big dreams & desires as a sensitive and ambitious human. Whether it’s productivity advice, or content creation advice, or whatever fill-in-the-blank sales strategy is the “must-do” of the moment, for some of us, the usual advice just doesn’t seem to work, no matter how hard we try. If whatever the “gurus” are telling you to do feels like pushing boulders uphill, today’s episode is for you.

**Episode Highlights:

💭** [03:36] "It's so important then to be able to run your business in a way that works for you and for your brain and for your body."

💭 [11:47] "Your stuff is good and good for people, and, therefore, people want to hear about it, and it is of service to sell in that way."

💭 [38:33] "We're all human, and we screw up sometimes, and that is part of the process. It's part of the experience of being a human being, and especially a human being who is very in tune with their values and their ethics, and you are going to mess it up sometime."

**Episode Highlights:

💭 [01:00] "Courageous sales goals are bringing it back to you and the bits that you are in control of." 💭** [08:23] "If you fundamentally don't believe in what you are selling and yourself, it doesn't matter how many things you are doing, how busy you are, how many emails you send, how many reels you create, how much you get yourself out there, it won't convert."

💭 [12:50]"What if this was delighting people on the other side? What would you do then? How would you then show up to sell?"

Have you ever felt like you need to be more “shiny” in your business, or that you need to fit yourself into a box that doesn’t feel like you and you worry how you’ll ever make that work when it comes to selling and delivering your offers in a sustainable way? If so, today’s episode is one big permission slip to do things differently.

**Episode Highlights:

💭** “ I am a real person. I'm probably too real in some ways, but my business is about personal growth and I lead by example"

💭 “when I look back on all the things I've done and what got me to here, it's always been about figuring my shit out and then passing on what I learned”

💭 “be a human who's going to screw up and mess up, but be personable with it. As soon as we get into the whole super shiny, copywritten jazz… Yeah, but everyone else is doing that as well. So no one stands out. You don't sound professional. You just get lost in this sea of sameness.”

  • 04:17: "what would be the path of least resistance for me to boost my sales right now?"
  • 05:59: "The path of least resistance can include some stretching and actually it is very good if it does include a little bit, but not to an exhausting, very difficult, or totally demoralizing extent."

There once was a woman who had a nagging idea but was terrified to share it with the world. It was an idea that wouldn’t leave her (even though it felt ridiculous and not for “someone like her”), and she didn’t really have a clue what she was doing. But she took the leap, she committed to doing it for at least a year, and she had no idea that it would become the key to not only finding but also bravely using her voice. Eventually she used it to support a whole new business, documenting every failed experiment along the way, and happily calling in clients who shared how much it meant to them, and she even used it to help her write and release a book into the world. It became something she loved to do, something she KNEW she was good at, and one of the best decisions she ever made. This week's interview is with Anna Considine and we talk about so much in this episode. I have a trigger warning, as she speaks very openly about her experience of psychosis. Plus we chat body confidence photo shoots, running a multifaceted business online and much more.

Eloise is the perfect example of running a business that completely revolves around what matters to you. We discuss how she hopes it can change the world, how she sets boundaries around her work when it’s so closely tied into her family life, and the importance of kindness and non-judgement in everything she does. Whether you’re a parent or not, I think you’ll find Eloise’s story really interesting.

Trigger warning: Kat is super-honest about her mental health journey - we don't get into too many details, but Kat does mention her eating disorder and anxiety.

"Your business is a part of you, it is part of what you do, so therefore if you’re not looking after yourself, your business isn’t going to flourish."

In my first solo episode of Creatively Human, I go over my 10-year online business journey. From starting out as an unemployed graduate, to freelance writing, turning it into a business, and taking advantage of the freedom that my online business gave me.

"I had to bash out the articles every day, it got so tiring... I was working myself to the ground. It wasn't fun... that's a lesson there: not to charge too little."

In the first ever episode of the Creatively Human podcast, I chat with the amazing Ray Dodd about how she moved into her zone of genius, the internal stories we have about ourselves (and why they probably aren't true), and what it means to take up space as a woman.

"Taking up space is acknowledging that there is a space in the world that only you can fill." - Ray Dodd
