The live-training style business podcast that is helping entrepreneurs build and expand their business online. You'll learn new ways to take your important work online, reach more people and grow your business.
I'm Nichole Joy, Business Mentor. I’m here to help you birth & expand your business online. As your guide, I combine: the logistics of building the foundation of your online business; a heavy dose of energy healing work; and magic! I’m committed to deprogramming for the sake of expansion in our lives, and businesses. For the past several years, I’ve been peeling off the layers of conditioning in every area of my life and business. I’ve gone from C-section —> unassisted home birth, tossed my scale, had my breast implants removed, quit hormonal birth control and stopped using heat products on my hair. In the process, I've remembered my body’s power, fallen back in love with my itty bitties, the magic of my cycle, and my natural wavy / curly-ish hair.
As for my business, I’m deprogramming one piece at a time. Let’s unschool and rebirth yours.
There are the questions you ask out loud…and the ones you’re holding quietly underneath.
In this episode, I’m answering both.
This is a grounded, transparent walkthrough of what the Mother Line work actually is, how it works, and what you’re stepping into if you feel called toward it.
Not to convince you. Not to sell you.
But to give you the clarity you need to make a clean decision.
Inside This EpisodeWe cover:

A Final Note
You don’t need to understand this work for it to work. You need to feel it.
And at some point, the question becomes: not “Do I have enough information?” but “Do I recognize myself in this?”

You may have been taught that the most important thing you bring into a birth room is your training.
Your certifications.
Your techniques.
Your beautifully packed doula bag.
And while those things matter…
They’re not the deepest layer.
The most important thing you bring into the birth room is your nervous system.
A Shift Is Happening
Over the past several years, the doula industry has moved through different phases.
There was a strong focus on certifications and techniques.
Then came the rise of digital doulaship—bringing education, support, and resources to families online.
And now something deeper is emerging.
The doula era is evolving.
The work is expanding.
Because no matter how much you prepare your clients—or how much you educate yourself—you can’t out-prepare a dysregulated nervous system.
In This Episode, You’ll Hear About
• Why the nervous system may be the most important thing you bring into a birth space
• How the doula industry has evolved over the past several years
• Why regulation changes the entire energy of the birth room
• How inherited patterns can influence how you hold space for clients
• The connection between nervous system work, burnout, and sustainability in birth work
• Why healing through the mother line changes both your work and your life
The Deeper Layer of Birth Work
When you begin regulating your nervous system and healing the patterns held in your body—especially those inherited through generations of women—something shifts.
Your presence in the birth room changes.
The way you hold boundaries in your business changes.
Your capacity to hold space for clients changes.
Even your relationship with power, money, and leadership can begin to shift.
This isn’t just about birth.
It’s about how you live and lead as a woman.
Why I’m Back
I’m stepping back into the doula world because the conversation is evolving.
And the next era of birth work isn’t just about techniques or certifications.
It’s about regulated nervous systems.
It’s about healing what we carry in our bodies and in our lineage.
It’s about becoming fully expressed versions of ourselves rather than living a modern-day version of our grandmothers’ survival.
If This Work Is Calling You
The Mother Line program is where we go deeper into this work together.
Inside this experience, you’ll explore healing inherited patterns through mother line work and Expansion Principle energy healing.
The next cohort begins March 23 and includes:
• a six-week virtual container
• an intimate in-person retreat option in November
• limited private support opportunities
If you feel called to explore this deeper layer of healing and leadership, you can apply here: https://www.nicholejoy.com/mother-line
What if the way you react to life… didn’t start with you?
If you’ve ever noticed yourself responding to your children, your relationships, or situations in life in ways that don’t fully match the woman you know you want to be, there may be deeper patterns at play.
Not everything you carry started with you.
In this episode, you’ll explore the concept of your mother line—the generations of women who came before you and the energetic, emotional, and nervous system patterns that move through that lineage.
Nichole explains your “spiritual soup,” the information you inherit from your life experiences, your soul’s journey, and your lineage. But you don’t only inherit trauma. You also inherit resilience, survival wisdom, and power from the women who came before you.
In this episode, you’ll Learn the three phases of mother line healing:
Through personal stories—including her own birth experiences and motherhood journey—Nichole explains how lineage healing has changed the way she parents, leads, and moves through the world.
This work isn’t about becoming perfect. It’s about becoming different.
Why This Work Matters
When you shift patterns in your lineage, the ripple effect moves forward—into your children, your relationships, and the generations that come after you.
If you’re listening to this and recognizing yourself in these patterns, you may be ready to begin this work in a deeper way.
The Mother Line program is where we do that together.
This experience includes a virtual container and an optional intimate in-person retreat (November ‘5-6, 2026) where we focus on healing inherited patterns through mother line work and Expansion Principle energy healing. Participants in the virtual experience also receive early access to Nichole’s upcoming memoir: Walking Mom Home.
This work changes how you live as a woman—and what your children inherit from you.

In this episode, Nichole sits down with Dr. Robert Yu, a holistic-minded periodontist based in St. Petersburg, Florida, to explore how pregnancy, postpartum, and the seasons of motherhood can impact your teeth, gums, and overall oral health.
Dr. Yu was the surgeon behind Nichole’s year-long dental healing journey — removing old root canals, clearing infections, rebuilding bone with grafts and a sinus lift, and placing a ceramic dental implant. Together, they dive into the often-overlooked connection between motherhood, hormones, nutrient depletion, bone health, and gum disease — and what every woman should know about supporting her mouth and body through each stage of life.
This conversation bridges holistic dentistry and conventional periodontal care, offering education, empowerment, and real-life insight for women who want to approach dental health from a whole-body perspective.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode
Root canals. Bone grafting. Energy healing. Moon cycles. And a year without a back tooth.
In this candid solo episode, I walk you through the full-circle story of undoing two old root canals, healing bone loss, navigating surgical dentistry, and doing it all in my own way—blending conventional medicine with Expansion Principle energy healing, crystal support, and loads of intuitive prep work. You’ll hear:
🦷 This is Part 1 of a 2-part series. In Part 2, I’ll be interviewing my periodontist to bring you the expert lens.
💬 Got questions you’d love me to ask him? DM me or email me ASAP!
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to navigate holistic-ish dentistry—or you’re craving an honest, empowering take on healing beyond the physical—this one’s for you.

Mother’s Day is a complicated one for me—and I know I’m not alone. In this episode, I open up about my relationship with Mother’s Day, especially after losing my mom just over a year ago.
This isn’t a conversation about flowers and brunch plans (though I’m not knocking either). This is a deeper reflection on grief, forgiveness, healing, and the legacy we carry—and sometimes rewrite—as daughters and mothers.
For most of my life, I had a complicated relationship with my mom. It wasn’t something I talked about publicly while she was alive, but now, as I work on the book about our story, I feel called to share more—especially for those of you who also didn’t grow up with the Hallmark version of a mother-daughter relationship.
In this episode, I share:
The full-circle moment at our final Mother’s Day together
Why I chose to write a book instead of telling our story on social media
A powerful reframe around forgiveness, boundaries, and self-honoring
What to do when you feel like “celebrating” just doesn’t feel aligned Whether you’re missing your mom, navigating a strained relationship, or just feeling the heaviness this day can bring—I hope this episode meets you with compassion and validation.
And as a gift, I’ve added a link to access a guided healing meditation —a gentle energy transmission through the mother line. You can revisit it anytime. It’s not a one-time fix, but it’s a sacred step.
🌸 Listen in and remember: You can honor Mother’s Day in your own way. You can feel grief and gratitude in the same breath. You can hold the full complexity of love, disappointment, and healing—and still choose softness.
If this resonates, I’d love if you shared the episode with someone who needs it. You’re not alone in this.

I’m so excited to bring you this conversation with my dear friend and mentor, Dr. Alexis Romeu. We’ve been connected since 2017, and if you’ve been around here for a while, you already know she’s no stranger to the podcast. But if this is your first time meeting her, let me properly introduce you to someone who has truly changed my life.
Dr. Alexis is a doctor of Chinese medicine turned metaphysical teacher, channel for a trans dimensional being named Simon, founder of the Expansion Principle energy healing technology (which I’m now a practitioner of), and author of two incredible books. Go off friend!
In this episode, we dive deep into what channeling actually is (spoiler: it’s not just “I had a great idea!”). We unpack the difference between readings, psychic abilities, mediumship, and true trans-channeling—where consciousness outside of you speaks through you. Alexis shares her journey of connecting with Simon, how Expansion Principle came to be, and the importance of energetic discernment (because no, you don’t just let any ol’ being borrow your vessel).
We also talk about:
If you’ve ever been curious about channeling, energy healing, or how to navigate life with a little more cosmic support, this conversation is for you. Plus, we share some personal stories—including how Simon casually dropped details about my book cover (that I never told Alexis) and why fairies made a surprise appearance.
✨ Tampa friends—don’t forget, Alexis will be here on May 1st for two special events: 1️⃣ A live channeling experience with Simon 2️⃣ A Meet the Author event for her newest book The Art of Sacred Relating I’ll drop the links below so you can grab your spot.
And if you’re not local, don’t worry—there are plenty of virtual ways to connect with Alexis and Simon too. Trust me, once you experience it, you’ll get why I’ve been showing up twice a month (plus private sessions) for years now.

In this episode, I’m diving into something that’s been on my heart for a while now: legacy. You know, the kind of stuff that makes you stop and think about what really matters in life. Losing my mom earlier this year, and my brother years ago, has completely reframed how I view life, work, and what we leave behind. Again.
Today, I’m talking about how we can create a legacy that feels authentic, meaningful, and (surprise!) doable. Especially for us entrepreneurs—what happens when we shift from chasing revenue goals to creating something that lasts longer than an Instagram story?
Here’s What I Cover in This Episode:
Digital courses (they’re not just for revenue—they’re timeless capsules of your wisdom).
It’s Personal, Not Perfect: I share why your legacy doesn’t have to be a bestseller or a viral hit. It just has to be you. And it doesn’t all have to be public—your legacy can include things meant only for your family or even just yourself.
What I Hope You Get From This Episode:
Don’t Forget:
As always, thanks for being here with me on this journey. You being part of my world? That’s part of my legacy. — Nichole

Hey everyone, grief journey update ahead. The last episode dropped on September 5th, a Thursday, and the feedback I got really warmed my heart. Some of you shared kind words, and it felt good to know my vulnerability resonated with you, especially when it comes to grief.
But, honestly? I’ve been dragging my feet about recording again. Maybe it was a vulnerability hangover, or maybe I just needed some time. When we left off last episode, I was talking about how I was dancing with my grief. Well, let me tell you how the universe delivered.
On September 6th, the day after sharing the most recent episode, my dad had a birthday party in his building—music, champagne, dancing, the works. When I walked in, he was already in his element, dancing and having a great time.
It was beautiful to see him enjoying himself, but when he noticed me and gestured for me to join him, I was hit with a wave of overwhelming emotion. The last time I had danced with my dad was at my wedding in 2015, nine years ago. The emotions hit me like a bag of bricks. I suddenly felt like I couldn’t handle it. I considered passing on the offer because I was afraid of losing my composure. But then I gave myself a quick pep talk, “Get it together! You’re not going to miss this chance.”
So, I went out there, and I’m not gonna lie—I lost it. I ugly cried right in front of everyone. Talk about a vulnerability moment! I know I’ve said that crying is healthy, and it is, but doing it in front of a room full of people is a whole different ball game.
It felt like the universe was reminding me, “Hey, you said you wanted to dance with your grief. So here you go.” And that’s exactly what I did. I ugly cried and danced with my dad for the first half of the song, and it was intense. I realized that I was not just dancing with my grief, but also with my dad’s grief—his loss of my mom, the love of his life, despite how many years it had been since they were together.
Sometimes I get so caught up in my own grief that I forget he’s grieving too. He’s been dealing with this since April, and it hit me that we were both in this dance together.
I felt it was important to share this moment because I needed a bridge to move forward from our last conversation. I hope this resonates with some of you who might also need that transition. It’s okay to feel sad, to be vulnerable, and to express those feelings—especially in a world that often tells us otherwise.
So, as you listen, remember it’s okay to dance with your grief, to cry when you need to, and to pep talk yourself into facing those tough emotions. Here’s to a week of honoring our feelings—whatever they may be. xo
In this episode, we’ll dive into a topic that’s been relevant for me lately: processing and embracing emotions, including grief. Here’s a look at what you’ll hear in the episode:
Thank you for tuning in, friend. I hope this episode helps you navigate your own emotional landscape with greater ease, flow, and compassion. xo

In this episode, I guide you through the intricate subject of triggers. But first, a caveat: be sure to seek professional support as needed when triggered. Trust yourself here.
I delve into encountering conflicting beliefs on social media and share my personal approach to handling such situations. I’ll explain the concept of multiple truths and the futility of engaging in online arguments. Reflecting on my journey, I discuss growth, compassion, and discernment in navigating relationships with individuals of differing beliefs, both personally and professionally. Here’s where it gets sticky: I encourage you to take a look at yourself when triggered, explore your underlying beliefs and take responsibility for your reactions. Overall, I cover personal responsibility, boundary-setting, and maintaining compassion, even if it means disengaging from certain relationships for the sake of mental well-being.

In this episode, let’s go deeper into the concept of "staying in your own lane," building on last week's discussion about its potential harm when imposed on others. We’ll explore the nuanced perspective of when it's appropriate to embrace this mentality, particularly in the context of personal growth and innovation.
Nuanced Perspective:
I acknowledge the gray areas, recognizing both the dangers of projecting "stay in your own lane" onto others and its value in fostering authenticity and innovation. It's crucial to resist blindly conforming to industry norms while carving out our own paths authentically, especially when we see alternative, more efficient approaches.
Examples and Insights:
Drawing from my time in the doula industry, I illustrate the importance of courage and innovation in breaking away from conventional practices. From there, I expand the discussion to motherhood, where societal expectations often butt heads with our own unique needs. Goal: flex your discernment and create your own realities.
Navigating Industries:
I share personal reflections on removing myself from toxic environments and cultivating a tailored approach to business and life, particularly along my entrepreneurial journey. Heavy on maintaining focus amidst industry noise and controversies, and staying true to our missions and values.

Now, it's not my usual style to dive into internet drama, but sometimes, you come across something that hits close to home. Recently, I stumbled upon a post on Facebook where someone suggested that “Beyoncé should stick to her own lane and stay out of country music.” Now, this struck a chord with me, not just because I'm a fan of Beyoncé, but because it's reflective of a mindset that we should have left behind by now.
Let's break this down together and understand why such comments are not just harmful, but also a reflection of someone's own limiting beliefs. As we enter 2024, it's high time we move away from shrinking ourselves and others based on preconceived notions.
As a woman entrepreneur who has faced her fair share of challenges and risks, I feel a responsibility to address these harmful comments. Moreover, as a mother to black children, it's crucial to speak out against perpetuating stereotypes, especially when it's coming from one (white) woman about another (Black) woman.
The claim that someone should stay in their lane is essentially a projection of the individual's small perception of themselves. We shouldn't be putting people into boxes, whether it's about their music, their work, or even their role in motherhood. We are here to expand, evolve, and try new things.
Now, if you're in a position of influence, be it as an entrepreneur, mentor, or guide, remember the sacred responsibility that comes with it. Your words carry weight, and they can either inspire or discourage those who look up to you.
Putting someone in a box not only limits their creative expression but also goes against the universal commandment of being fully expressed as individuals. The journey to self-expression involves shedding old layers and making space for the new, for your soul's expression.
I'm currently diving into an audiobook on creativity, and it emphasizes that some of the best art can be polarizing. Not everyone has to like it, and that's perfectly fine. Our world needs a spectrum of voices, flavors, and expressions.
So, instead of limiting others, let's be aware of our reactions and thoughts when we encounter such statements. Here are a few questions for you to ponder: 1) Can you cheer for others when they take risks? 2) Can you allow yourself and others to step outside of boxes and labels?, and 3) Can you embrace people's highest possibilities?
It's time to break free from the old paradigm, hold visions of highest possibilities, and create a world where diversity and creativity flourish.
And by the way, have you heard Beyoncé's latest country tracks? They're on repeat in my car, and yes, I'm officially a country music fan in 2024. #influenced.

In this episode, you'll learn the magic behind how I recently taught my youngest child to ride a bike without training wheels. Adds this to the list of topics that I never thought I’d podcast about. The response on social media was overwhelming, with tons of DMs asking about my technique. Tune in for my secret.
I draw parallels between teaching bike riding and tackling those huge life projects like writing a book, launching a podcast, or creating a digital course. My not-so-secret sauce starts with breaking it all down into bite-sized, manageable chunks and relishing those quick wins.
When taking off the training wheels, this starts with a piece of sidewalk chalk and a simple line on the pavement. You’ll hear my non-expert step-by-step method, where we celebrate every small achievement, creating an excited vibe.
Then, you’ll hear my perspective on surrendering to the outcome. They key to this piece: a heavy dose of patience and trust. Whether it takes a couple of days or a week, the goal is to make it fun!
And in true Nichole Joy fashion, I turned it into a business / life lesson for you.
As I draw parallels between teaching bike riding and conquering big projects, you’ll learn about compounding your skill set. It's like adding layers to your expertise in podcasting, writing, or any other area of life.
Before you go, please don’t forget to share your experiences with me—whether it's teaching your kid to ride a bike or conquering your dreamy delulu projects. Tag me on social media, send a DM, or share your thoughts. I’d love to celebrate with you! 🚲✨

Fresh off the 2024 Birth Worker Retreat, I’m excited to share my biggest takeaway & business lesson with you. Keep in mind, this was my first in-person speaking gig since 2020, and I have to say - it was better than I could have imagined.
Back in 2020, my first in-person event had a handful of attendees. The plan was to keep them rolling every six months, but well, as we all know, life had different plans. Now, fast forward to the first Birth Worker Retreat – we had about 40 birth workers from all over the U.S. Plus, huge shoutout to two former clients who made the trek all the way from Canada, one who traveled 18-hours each way from Victoria to Clearwater, Florida.
Pause. If you’re wondering, why birth workers? Sure, I work with various professionals – from nutritionists to real estate closers, youth sports camps to pediatric therapists – but my heart will forever and ever live in the birth industry. Birth nerd for life, amen?!
So, my biggest takeaway from this retreat? The impact of my work, especially my podcast and voice, on real, living, breathing humans. People came up to me, sharing how they've been listening to and loving my podcast for some time, and were thrilled to meet in real life. I had no clue that my podcast was weaving into their lives in such a profound way.
Here's the thing: many of these amazing humans never told me this before. No reviews, no messages, you get it. And, listen, in case I’ve never told you before… if you're enjoying the show, don't be shy – tell me (bats eyes). As a Projector in human design, that recognition is like plugging a freshly charged battery into me.
What does this have to do with you? If you’re a fellow entrepreneur in ANY industry, remember that success isn't measured in metrics. Even if the algorithm seems to be ignoring you, or your engagement is low, rest assured – people ARE watching, listening, reading, and being impacted by your message.
Let’s normalize telling people when their work helps us, moves us, inspires us.
Up for a challenge? Let's make it a habit to tell five businesses or individuals this week about the positive impact they've had on us. Write a review, send them an email, text, or DM. Comment on their content. Remember, you attract what you ARE.
And to wrap up the episode, I've put together a sweet compilation of clips from the retreat – snippets of attendees sharing their favorite moments. If you were there and didn't make it into the video, feel free to send it to me for version 2.
And if you missed the retreat this year, good news: we booked the same spot for 2025! Secure your seat here: https://mailchi.mp/behervillage/thebirthworkerretreat

In this episode, let’s break down a business lesson in repurposing, inspired by Nicki Minaj's new album. Through a few of my personal life examples, you’ll get a wider perspective on the value of repurposing and refurbishing.
I’ll explain the concept of "sampling" in the business world, show you parallels between how artists sample music and how entrepreneurs can sample ideas and concepts. To be clear, by sampling, I don’t mean copycatting without giving credit. Rather, sampling done right involves learning from others, embodying that knowledge, and applying it in a personal and meaningful way.
Using examples from my own experiences, such as shopping my closet for an upcoming event or rediscovering old recipes, you’ll see the importance of repurposing and refurbishing existing assets in both personal life and business. Then of course, I’ll bring you back to your role as an entrepreneur, drawing a connection to digital assets in the business realm, encouraging you to revisit and repurpose your own content. In doing this for myself recently, I was inspired by my own past work, appreciating the value of these "energetic time capsules" that can be revisited and shared over time.
If creating sustainability in your businesses is on your dream list, you can start by avoiding the constant need to recreate the wheel. My advice: find someone, whether that’s me or another, to guide you in creating your own sustainable business.

I am thrilled to introduce you to my client turned dear friend, Danette Siegel, owner of A Mother is Born. Danette is a mother of two, engineer turned doula, fellow spiritual individual and overall badass in the Boston birth community. After working intimately (& virtually) with Danette over the past eight months, I have been honored to get to know her, and witness her profound dedication to herself, her family, her clients and… her transformation.
In this episode, you’ll hear about Danette’s transition from the masculine world of engineering to the birth world. She shares what she’s done thus far in her 1.5 years in business, 8 months with me, and what’s to come.
I hope hearing her business birth story leaves you inspired (as she constantly inspires me).

Listen, just because it’s the second week of January, we aren’t yet jumping into full-on planning mode in my corner…yet. There’s still loads of space that needs to be cleared, and in this episode, I’ll share several fire lessons (if I do say so myself). Let’s take a glimpse at the examples…
Example #1: If you watch my IG stories, you know I am into face yoga. In class, we do this exercise known as fascia rolling. The benefit of fascia rolling (per the expert)? Creating space in the face for circulation.
Example #2: This one's for my fellow birth nerds in the room. Remember Webster certified chiropractic care during pregnancy? The first time I had this done (second pregnancy), the expert explained to me that while my baby wasn’t in optimal position, chiro adjustments weren’t to ‘get baby into position,’ or to put me into labor, per se. Rather, she explained that her job was to create space within the womb… so that the baby has space to potentially move into a better position.
Example #3: A bit of a preview to next week’s episode, this example is from that time (like three months ago) when we cleared a lot of ‘fluff’ off of a client’s calendar to avoid burnout. We made SPACE. The full circle moment for this one will come next week!
Example #4: This one comes from my sh*tty, albeit improving, gardening skills. More specifically, the time I pruned the heck out of my massive tomato plant in my tower garden. By cutting back unnecessary branches and roots, more nutrients are directed towards fruitful branches, resulting in healthier growth.
What better way to kickoff 2024, than with examples that hit? Signed, your example queen, Nichole Joy.
This year, I encourage you to create space, flow and to try on desire-setting, which feels so much more expansive than goal-setting.
Oh, and be sure to utilize the free energy healing transmission to clean up last year: https://www.nicholejoy.com/podcast/episode194

My friend, you’re in for a treat.Closing out the year isn't just about physical or digital decluttering; it's also about cleaning out the energetic residue that has built up over the past months or even years. Just as our homes or digital spaces accumulate clutter, our businesses and lives accumulate energetic clutter.Imagine your business as a room. Over time, various individuals have stepped into this room, leaving behind their energy, beliefs, and footprints. Some of these energies might not align with your vision or goals. As you close out one year and step into the next, it's essential to clear out this energy to create space for what aligns with your intentions for the coming year.To help you with your business energetic cleanse, I’ve included a guided meditation with a specific energy healing modality, Expansion Principle. You’ll also hear a bit about my own decluttering process, bringing back episodes from 2021, and adding a new layer, where we’ll dive deep into cleaning the energetic business space. Because here’s the thing - sometimes the energetic footprints of past clients, collaborators, or mentors linger and can impact the current state and future trajectory of your business. The goal of this energy cleanse is to ensure that your business's energetic container is aligned with your vision, goals, and intentions for the upcoming year. Just as one might declutter their home or digital space, it's crucial to declutter your business energetically. Then going forward, you’ll learn how to be discerning about who and what you allow into your business's energetic space. Just as you wouldn't let anyone touch your hair or work on your body without consideration, you shouldn't let anyone or anything into your business without careful discernment. By doing so, you ensure that your business remains squeaky clean and aligned with YOU.This episode is divided into three parts:Physical Cleanup: grab a pen and get to work! You’ll learn how decluttering physical spaces like closets, kitchen cabinets, workspaces, & car interiors can impact your life.Digital Cleanup: Moving to the digital realm, the focus shifts to tidying up email inboxes, organizing digital folders, decluttering phone apps, and being intentional about content consumption on social media. Oh, and we’ll be unsubscribing from unnecessary newsletters, categorizing emails, and adjusting notification settings.Energetic Cleanup: The final segment dives into an energetic healing process. Using a guided meditation, you’ll be guided through visualizing your business space, identifying and removing lingering energetic footprints from past interactions or influences. This process aims to create a more aligned and vibrant business environment for the upcoming year.To wrap up: cleaning out old, stagnant energies, whether physical, digital, or energetic, is essential. Doing so creates space for new opportunities, clearer intentions, and a more focused path forward in the new year.Happy New Year, friends.Additional links:Podcasting with Heart (NEW course): https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/podcastingwithheartPodcast Consulting application: https://nicholejoy.hbportal.co/public/64fa005ec70ae50024c65155Try Honeybook!: https://share.honeybook.com/nichole35768Birth Worker Retreat: https://mailchi.mp/behervillage/birthworkerretreatBlack Birthworker Scholarship Application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2Cye69MQ01inIERCVj5AAbPBPvg7In7zisLdpFJqKM0_S_g/viewform?usp=sharing

The Business Birth Story series is back! This time you’ll meet Darcy Sauers, commonly known as ‘Doula Darcy’ on the interwebs. Darcy shares her story of leaving a fancy NYC marketing career to pursue her passion in the postpartum world. Then, she shares how she had to learn how to market her new postpartum doula business, leaning back on what she learned in her former marketing career. After about nine years as a postpartum doula, in 2019, Darcy realized the need to teach other doulas how to market… and the next iteration of her business was born. Darcy and I hope you can join us this January at the Birth Worker Retreat in Clearwater Beach, Florida. This episode explores the time commitment, benefits, and strategies for successful podcasting, emphasizing how podcasting fosters deeper connections with the audience, offers lasting legacy content, and allows for efficient repurposing on social media.Inside, you’ll hear my perspective on various aspects of starting a podcast and I’ll address topics from entrepreneurs considering podcasting, including:Time Commitment: The time commitment for a podcast can vary, with episodes ranging from as short as 15 minutes to an hour or more. The actual time spent on podcasting depends on factors like whether you do it all yourself or outsource production and the initial effort required for the podcast's launch.Podcasting vs. Social Media: Podcast content has a longer shelf life compared to social media content, which often expires quickly. Podcast episodes are consumed differently, with listeners seeking a deeper connection and a more authentic exchange. Podcasting allows for stronger relationships with the audience.Legacy Content: Podcast episodes, especially evergreen ones, serve as legacy content that continue to attract listeners, even when you're not actively creating new episodes. This can result in ongoing engagement with your content.Ownership: Podcast content is considered an asset that you own, in contrast to social media content, where you're essentially renting space. This ownership provides more control over your content and its distribution.Building Relationships: Podcasting allows for deep, authentic connections with the audience. When potential clients reach out after listening to your podcast, it often feels more like a conversation than a sales pitch.Repurposing Content: Podcasts serve as pillar content that can be easily extracted and repurposed into smaller pieces for social media. This strategy makes the content creation process more efficient and drives traffic back to your podcast.Broadcast on Social Media: Social media can be used as a platform to broadcast snippets of your podcast, inviting your audience to listen to the full episode. If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to tune into the rest of the Podcast Curious Series: Episode 187. In this episode, you’ll hear what I told my client (about marketing) who can’t stand social media.First, it’s important to know that enjoying and being good at social media is NOT a requirement for successful online marketing. If social media isn’t your thing, you’ll still learn more about alternative ways to market your business online, so that people can continue to ‘feel you,’ even when you’re not physically present. Your in-person networking efforts are incredible, AND can be limiting if not followed up by some kind of virtual presence. Remember, we are building for sustainability. And you can’t possibly go to every single networking event in your town, forever and ever amen. Amen? Here’s the thing, marketing isn’t going away. My advice: find a way that you can get behind. A way that works for you. Not to fret, I won’t leave you hanging. You’ll learn three alternative methods of marketing your business OUTSIDE of social media. And then, you may decide to use social media simply for a broadcast portal. A FREE broadcast portal.Inside, I’ll cover:Podcasting as a valuable online presence strategy that is distinct from social media. Then, I’ll explain how podcast content can be repurposed for social media to spread the word.Blogging as another viable alternative to social media. I actually recommend traditional blogging as a powerful way to share your message.Side note: I encourage turning podcast episodes into blog posts and vice versa, when possible.In-Person Networking Events, particularly when boosted by an online presence alongside in-person efforts.Energetic Connection. I discuss the strength of energetic connections, ranking them as follows:In-person interactionsVideo contentAudio contentWritten contentAdditional links:Podcasting with Heart (NEW course): https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/podcastingwithheartPrivate podcasting mentorship application: https://nicholejoy.hbportal.co/public/64fa005ec70ae50024c65155
With six years of online business (and 4 years podcasting) under my belt, I’ve had a wide variety of both DIY and outsource experiences. While this episode discusses the right time to DIY your podcast vs. the right time to outsource your podcast, you can apply the messages to almost any project in your business.Below are the episode details. Enjoy!Segment 1: What I Wish I Knew Before Starting a PodcastA personal story about how my podcasting microphone collected dust for 18 months before I started. What moved the needle, what got me to start.Once I was ready, my first podcast launched within a month. The first version of your podcast isn’t the final version. Personal corporate life story that gives context to the value in knowing how to do something FIRST, before outsourcing.Segment 2: Can you DIY your own Podcast? After almost four years of podcasting, I only recently started doing my own editing (September ‘23). Secret: it’s SO much easier than I was making it out to be.Benefits of editing your own podcast:Creative freedom Cost savings (a real thing for many of us)Empowering to know how to editHelps you to hire more efficiently if / when the time comes to outsourceGreat exercise in healing your inner perfectionist & allowing yourself to be imperfectSegment 3: What should you outsource in podcastingWhat may be outsourced: EditingGraphic design for your cover graphicCopyShow notesRepurposing The issue with the message of ‘outsource everything’ is that it can lead to over (& sometimes unnecessary) outsourcing. I probably over outsourced, too early on, and learned some costly lessons that I’m hoping to save you from. Cons of outsourcing too soon: Costnot being able to move quickly and make changes on a whimrelying on others’ schedule When is the right time to outsource? In my opinion, only after you know how to do the things, and can hire someone else who will do them YOUR way and efficiently. When your business reaches the point where the expense doesn’t feel so tightAdditional links:Podcasting with Heart (NEW course): https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/podcastingwithheartPrivate podcasting mentorship application: https://nicholejoy.hbportal.co/public/64fa005ec70ae50024c65155Birthworker Retreat Tickets: https://mailchi.mp/behervillage/birthworkerretreatBlack Birthworker Scholarship Application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2Cye69MQ01inIERCVj5AAbPBPvg7In7zisLdpFJqKM0_S_g/viewform?usp=sharingHoneybook (CRM) trial: https://share.honeybook.com/nichole35768Alumni Study Group (FB): https://www.facebook.com/groups/alumnistudygroup
In this podcast episode, we’ll explore the world of podcasting, its origins, aligned reasons for starting a podcast and how to monetize your podcast. In this episode, we explore the concept of "shitty" courses and books, and how they can serve as catalysts for our own creative journeys. You’ll hear my personal experience of reading a book that didn't resonate with me, but sparked the inspiration to create my own audiobook shortly after. Then, let’s go deep on what might be "shitty" for one person could be the key to unlocking creative potential for another.Highlights of the episode:1. The Confidence Boost: a personal story about the time that I read a book I didn't resonate with, and it gave me the confidence to ‘write’ my own book. Sometimes, it's the "shitty" books that inspire us to take action.2. Shifting Perspectives: I invited you to reflect on how the initial thought of categorizing creative work as "shitty" can be hierarchical and unproductive. Instead, try on this more inclusive perspective where what doesn't resonate with us may be perfect for someone else.3. Diversity of Offerings: With over 30,000 pregnancy books on Amazon, it’s clear that not every book is meant for everyone. No matter your industry, your unique perspective can resonate with a specific audience that needs your voice.4. Quality vs. Relevance: the value of creative work goes beyond the quality of production. A high-end course might not resonate with some individuals, making it a "shitty" course for them.5. Activating Creativity: I encourage you not to shy away from creating your own work, even if you fear it might be considered "shitty" by some. Sometimes, these "shitty" creations are the very catalysts that activate creativity and unique voices. So, can we give the "shitty" authors and course creators, ourselves included, the recognition they deserve? These works, although not for everyone, can still inspire others to share their unique voices and perspectives. Whether it's the "shitty" books that activate us or the ones that truly resonate, they all have a role in helping the collective. Remember, your work is perfect for the people it's meant to help.Ways to work with Nichole Joy:Private mentorship application: https://nicholejoy.hbportal.co/public/64fa005ec70ae50024c65155Course Creation Made Easy (NEW): https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/coursecreationmadeeasyBirthworker Retreat Tickets: https://mailchi.mp/behervillage/birthworkerretreatBlack Birthworker Scholarship Application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2Cye69MQ01inIERCVj5AAbPBPvg7In7zisLdpFJqKM0_S_g/viewform?usp=sharing
Let’s talk promises on the internet of rapid financial success, whether certain courses live up to said promises, and how to add one word to your perspective and open up to magical possibilities.

Then stick around to go deep with me. If you feel defeated in your course creation journey, you’ll learn how to shift your perspective by adding 'yet' to your experiences and getting back in the game. Learn why the language you use to describe your experiences can shape your entrepreneurial journey.
You’ll be encouraged to look beyond the surface-level measurements of success, refuse to believe that rough drafts equate to failures, and explore the value of learning from both successes and failures.
Now even deeper… you’re invited to consider how your experiences (even the ‘failures’) are part of your soul’s journey in this lifetime.

In this episode, you’ll hear a bit of my personal journey over the past 18 months. More specifically, how I have been processing a recurring pattern in my life. Through my real-life example, I’ll explain the distinction between transactional relationships (i.e. buying a book), and heart-centered connections, often formed with clients, mentors, or other service providers. Then, I’ll challenge you to take a look at your beliefs about what constitutes a ‘professional’ relationship, and how that relationship looks once the financial transaction is over. You’ll hear my own transformation from this perspective and how it created space for the brand new alumni study group, a space for all of my former clients and customers to reconnect and support each other.
To wrap up, you’ll get a business tip that you can try on in your own business. Enjoy!

Be honest - how do you assess people online, when you’re scoping them out?
I had a very interesting conversation with a young man from Ireland on my plane ride back from London. He was a centennial approximately 23 years old, and we got into the topic of metaphysics and spirituality. He mentioned that he was interested to know more about these topics and so I ended up referring him to somebody I know. I gave him the Instagram account, and gave a quick disclaimer: I told him that this lady is not actively posting on Instagram but usually responds when someone DMS.
And his response shook me, and made the think about our definition or perception of success. What are we looking at when we assess people online? Do we check their follower count? Their Instagram aesthetic? Or how much they earn? Do we check their lifestyles, the size of their houses, the cars they drive?
In this episode, I'll be sharing with you a few questions that you may use to ponder on your own markes for success. And I share these questions with you to help you think about the belefs that you're carrying about what constitutes these markers of success, and help you redefine your own definition of what it really means to be successful in your business and in your personal life.

Yes, you read that correctly. I took my 70-year old dad to the Beyonce concert in Wales, UK! In this episode, you’ll hear about our trip, including how we manifested a flight upgrade, my dad falling in love with several women in a few days, and the backstory to all of this time of our lives.
And here’s the thing - this episode isn’t just about a concert. It’s about: modeling what a healthy adult child and elderly parent can look like, modeling celebrating ourselves as mothers for our children, and hopefully inspiring you to continue to expand the way that you navigate your role as a mother.
You’ll also hear a micro lesson on how to navigate nasty comments from trolls on the internet. I wasn’t sure if this was appropriate to include; however, it feels important for my fellow entrepreneurs.

Have you watched the Fair Play documentary on Netflix yet? Admittedly I only half watched, but that was all I needed for my takeaway:
The most important piece (for me) is that society is beginning to recognize the mothers’ (sometimes) unpaid contributions to the family: the physical & mental load. For example, remembering the groceries, who has clean uniforms for tomorrow, what extras to pack for each kid, snack bags etc. And for that alone, good job “Fair Play.” Progress!
What’s next? In this episode, you’ll hear where I feel that we are going next in terms of recognizing what mothers bring to the family: the healing contribution. It’s been my observation that the mothers are initiating the healing of the family, the deconditioning, pattern breaking and creating of a new consciousness level for the family as a unit. One that honors each child for who they are as an individual.
Many of the mothers of our generation came into this role with an 80s/90s boombox consciousness level operating system - and we’re trying to apply that to our children, who came with an iPhone 3000 consciousness level operating system. Disconnect, it’s time for an update.

The conversation on conscious motherhood continues. In this episode, you’ll meet AmyLee Westervelt, mother of 5, author of “The Colors Inside of Me,” and MLM executive turned spiritual coach.
You’ll hear AmyLee’s journey from a multiple six-figure career with an MLM company, to prioritizing her family and starting her spiritual coaching career. AmyLee shares how she applies her expertise in human design to parenting & homeschooling all five of her children, one of whom has a genetic disorder. She met her husband in 2011, who already had five children from a previous marriage. Initially, her plan was to stay home and raise the children, but after being stationed in Alaska, she became a bit of a recluse and started looking for social interaction. She stumbled upon a multi-level marketing company, which she became heavily involved with, prioritizing her business over her family. She eventually started feeling guilty about not spending enough time with her children, as she used to spend up to 10 hours in her office doing her MLM business. Despite providing her children with all their material needs, she felt she was not giving them the attention they needed.
AmyLee also discusses her approach to homeschooling, which is child-led and practical, and how human design plays a significant role in her family and how she adjusts her parenting style accordingly.
She is the author of a children's book, "The Colors Inside of Me," which is about a little panda who recognizes the colors within himself and his classmates. Each classmate tells him about a color they see in him and the quality that goes along with it. The book is a response to the Martin Luther King Jr. quote that children will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. The key message of the story is the importance of recognizing different cultures and traditions that exist inside individuals, which make them who they are.
As a mother of five, AmyLee discusses how she decides which priorities to focus on in her life as a mother, a business owner, and a spiritual coach.
She explains the importance of being playful and allowing oneself to be different, and believes that homogenization is an economic tool used to convince people that they want the same things, which ultimately reduces the cost of production. Differentiation is crucial, and it's up to individuals like us to be stewards of it. We must let our children know that they are allowed to be different and that it is okay not to find validation for their uniqueness in the outside world.

As much as possible, I try to avoid sharing intimate and personal details of my kids’ experience, but I also want to share the most incredible, life changing fit that I’ve given to my children–and that gift is ME!
As I stepped into the role of motherhood, I realized that the motherhood narrative on the streets didn’t resonate with me. The whole “martyr mother” and “mommy needs more wine” persona did not land with me at all. And because nothing seemed to click at that moment, I looked for more tools and resources and stumbled across energy work.
And so for this episode, I want to share about:

Here’s my dirty little batch secret… I don’t.
In this week’s episode, you’ll hear a bit about my content creation process. Someone in my community wrote in my content survey that I am a “master batcher,” when the truth is that I don’t batch. I used to try to batch content, even dreamt of having a complete content plan for months in advance–but my creative energy just doesn’t come through on demand.
In this episode, you’ll hear my actual process, so that you can try on an alternative method, as you figure out an approach that feels most natural for you. Because while batching content might be efficient, sometimes listening to our own creative urges helps us create more impactful and more authentic shares for our community .
The truth: not everyone is designed to batch content, and you are allowed to explore and embrace a content creation workflow that best fits your design and your business.

In this week’s episode, I want to talk about a concept that has come up for me and for a lot of the people in my community. And that is this feeling like there's a disconnect, there's something that feels not quite like it's clicking in your business and it feels like a dark night of the entrepreneurial soul. These are the moments when you wake up and realize that something about your business or something about the way that you've been doing business, feels like it's just not working and you just can't do it anymore
In this episode, we dive deep into this concept and talk about the possibilities of why this happens to us and what you can do if you find yourself in this dark night of the entrepreneurial soul.
Here’s the thing: the first thing that we’re going to do is not to blame ourselves or anyone else for that matter. Because they’re not in our bodies, they don't know what's best for us.
Only we know what's best for us.
Enjoy!

I am thrilled to introduce you to my dear friend, and personal face reader, Elisabeth Spears. In this episode, we talked about all things face readings, how trauma AND healing show up on your face, what some of your lines and wrinkles actually mean, and how healing is an incredibly viable alternative to botox and other face fillers.
Also, don’t skip the important message in the beginning. I found it fascinating that my audience asked me several times what skincare products I use - since I definitely DO NOT have perfect skin. Here’s what I took from that: you actually don’t care about perfect. No one actually cares about perfect, whatever that is anyway. We are all looking for REAL people, to share what’s working for them in real life. And since healing has been an important part of my journey, including how my skin looks & feels, it felt important to introduce you to one of the many healing modalities that I’ve used.
A little more about our guest: Elisabeth was born and raised in Tennessee, and recently relocated to Montgomery, Alabama to focus on her Face Reading business. She has been an Esthetician for 14 years and in searching for a better way to heal the skin, it led her to becoming a Reiki healer and then to Chinese medicine. Elisabeth is 1 of 2 Pi Fu Juan Jiao (skincare specialist) in America, and she fell in love with healing from the root of the problem instead of throwing bandaids on the problems! Four years ago, Elisabeth found a teacher and mentor Lillian Pearl Bridges, author of ‘Chinese Face Reading.’
Her family lineage was entrusted to her to share with as many people as possible. To say Face Reading transformed my life would be an understatement. Everything is different. Elisabeth is different. All the layers of who she was told that she was - peeled away to reveal her original face, which has been the most freeing and joyful time of her life! Elisabeth’s goal is for everyone to get back to their Original Face and experience the bliss of truly being who you were created to be!

As kids, we learned a lot about leadership, what it means to exhibit qualities of a leader, to lead others effectively, and to be a guide to our classmates or to our siblings. Here’s the gap: our education system fell short at teaching us how to lead ourselves. We’ve been conditioned to do exactly what and when to do certain things, with little to no wiggle room for us to practice self-leadership.
As we got older, this programming translates into us clocking in and out of our day jobs. And we see this in the world of entrepreneurship, particularly in the world of online business, where there’s a lot of people leading others to do things on their timelines, rather than trusting people to lead themselves to their own correctness, to know what and when is correct for them to do it.
In this episode, we’ll dive deep into the concept of self-leadership and what it really means to be a self-led individual. You’ll learn how it shows up in business, and in other areas of your life.
Here’s some hard truth, with love: Living a self-led life is more work, and it may be uncomfortable at first because it might go against what you’ve learned and experienced thus far.
Remember, you’ve got this.

Since we were kids, we have been getting this conditioning from society that we should decide what we want to do when we grow up and stick to that one thing. Our grandparents did it, our parents did it, but I don't think that's where we're going anymore. I don't think that that's the life that we're supposed to live right now. I don't think we're supposed to do the same thing forever and ever and ever.
So, this is your permission granted to make the change, whether it's your Instagram handle, closing your first Facebook group baby of 1,733 people, or changing the name of your podcast.
Which brings me to…Welcome to the Nichole Joy Show.
I have known for some time that this change was coming and I've been putting it off until finally, it just felt like the time was correct. And as we're heading into spring, which is a time of rebirth, I believe that this is what we're supposed to do. We're supposed to evolve, we're supposed to change.
So yes, the podcast is changing her name again. From Doulas Going Digital in 2019, to Birth Your Online Business in 2022, and now to the Nichole Joy Show. In the coming episodes you can expect to learn and hear through my lens about topics including but not limited to, motherhood, relationship with yourself, relationship with others, learning how to love the shit out of your body, holistic -ish wellness, metaphysical things, spirituality, human design, astrology, and a whole, whole lot more.
Having said all of that, allow me to reintroduce myself. I'm Nichole Joy, I'm the host of the Nichole Joy Show. I'm the author of Just Start, the audiobook. I'm a guide in business and in life. I'm a mother to three little people. I'm a 90s RnB fanatic. I'm a big fan of healing and deconditioning in every area of life and rewriting our experiences.
It's very nice to meet you. I look forward to continuing to build our relationship together and learning with each other!

This week, I am honored to introduce you to my client, Bridget Michael.
Bridget is the founder of Deu Doulas in Germany and Spain and has been attending births as a birth doula since 2006. She has worked hard to train doulas and her stories of her early days of marketing are particularly inspiring. She is a true powerhouse and is making a movement in Europe with doulas.
We met in 2020, and by then she had already been in the birth industry for more than a decade. And when we started working together, she expressed her desire to do things differently in her business.
In this episode, you will be hearing about the natural progression of her business’s growth. It's such a gift for me to witness people walking in their purpose, moving forward on their path, and to be a part of and witness a client’s growth.
I hope you find her story inspiring, enjoy!

What does it mean to be a heart-centered entrepreneur?
First let’s go back to our first heart experience - in the womb. In Joseph Pearce’s book Evolution's End, Pearce explains that a few days after conception, a clump of vibrating cells form what will become the baby's heart. The heart is the first organ to form, and the vibrating cells tune to the mother's heartbeat, and to her breath. Then after the baby is born, we naturally hold the baby on our left side, even when you're right-handed. The reason: we hold babies close to our left side because it’s closer to our heart.
Somewhere along the journey of growing, we are conditioned to lead with our brains, rather than our hearts. Many school systems teach this: logic. Logic isn’t necessarily a ‘bad’ thing; however, it is limiting.
Comprehension and critical thinking are helpful, but why are we not learning to listen to our bodies, sink into our heart space and lead with our hearts? And if we look closely, we can actually see how this is manifesting to big companies who are mostly focused on the numbers, on the efficiency, and on the profits earned.
In this episode, you’ll feel the importance of leading from your heart in business… and beyond. Because your heart is your compass, guiding you toward your life path, your mission, and your purpose in the world. Leading with your heart and understanding your "why" will serve as a strong energetic business foundation as you build your own business.
Enjoy!

Her defiance has led to her over four years of human design study. She studied from multiple different teachers and has a pending certification as a full spectrum doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator with birthing advocacy, and she's launching her new leg of her business Applied Woo, this month as a love letter to birth workers. Her mission is to give birth professionals spiritual tools to refresh or
reinvent their missions.
In this episode, she shares so much about what her experience has been like navigating the birth world, how she used human design in her journey, and really what led her to this strong mission that has a foundation on reproductive justice.
So if you’re curious about her journey, make sure to tune in.

Now for this week’s episode:
I spoke to some of my clients after getting back from the holidays, and found out that most of them were not feeling that “New Year jumpstart energy” just yet.
They were not vibing with it and they still felt very much like they were recovering.
But guess what, even I did not have everything planned out – and I even made a planner!
And it wasn’t because I wasn’t ready yet. It was mostly because of the energy wasn't supportive of me doing that just yet.
Our bodies during this season naturally want to pull inward, hibernate, and rest as we experience the cold of winter. But because we are conditioned to adhere to the Gregorian Calendar which is most commonly accepted throughout the world, we feel like we have to go start to kick-off a new year just like everybody else.
The thing is, this calendar might not be in alignment with our body's rhythm.
And that’s okay.
If January 1st isn't your preference, you have options. There are alternatives that you can try out and see what feels correct for you.
You can approach this concept of playing with time as it pertains to your dreams and your goals in your business, from a different lens. If you want your dreams to become inevitable and guaranteed to happen, then do this: drop the arbitrary date.
You will not quit your dream just because you did not hit a benchmark by December 31st of an arbitrary time. You will do whatever it takes no matter how long it takes to reach your dreams.
That’s when your dreams become a guarantee.
So my advice to you is: what if you drop the date and take off the limits to your dreams, your goals, whatever, and move forward? No matter how long it takes, what do you think might happen then?

Quick announcement: note that my holiday bazaar of 50% off courses AND my new audiobook is still going on. I decided to keep it going through 12/31/22 to allow you more space to decide what’s best for you. AND, all course members (of any course) are invited to a bonus strategy session this Thursday, 12/8. This is a great opportunity to ask me questions about how to apply what you’re learning in the courses to YOUR business. And if you need guidance, get in my DMs or email me and I’m happy to help. I have a lot of curriculum at this point, so I’m here to help you find exactly what would be the most supportive of you at this point in your journey, even if that’s a specific podcast episode. Course menu: https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/coursemenu Audiobook ‘Just Start’: https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/juststart Now for this week’s episode: Sooooo many of you want to build a mostly passive business. Meaning, you create resources for people to learn from you on their own time, so that you can help your community, while living your life, taking care of your littles, and just BEing. A few examples of passive products in my business include: Self-paced or on-demand workshops / classes/ courses Other digital resources: e-books, audiobook, guides, checklists In my business: the pregnancy library (cheat sheets, birth plan), the virtual doula’s content toolkit and a collection of online business courses Here’s the thing that I learned about passive courses (over 200 people have purchased my business courses, another 250ish have taken my online birth courses, plus another 150+ have accessed my business courses through other support containers) a lot of people may purchase a course, yet only a percentage of them actually watch it. Now, I do believe that you don’t HAVE to watch every single minute of every single course that you purchase to get what you need out of it. I trust you to lead yourself to exactly what YOU need, when you need it. And still, as a heart-centered entrepreneur, I don’t want you to just buy my courses. I want you to watch at least some of the modules and more importantly, take action & apply some of what you’ve learned. You’re not going to build a 6-figure online business by collecting digital courses. No matter how deeply discounted they are. And that doesn’t really help anybody. We want to HELP our people. I want to HELP you take action. I actually feel like my job in this respect is two-fold: 1) to help you expand the way that you think about the various topics that I teach on, and 2) to help you take action. So here’s my tip. I started this back in March of 2020 and LOVED it. Consider adding a bonus live session for your students. In my business, I’ve offered bonus Q&As and this week I’m offering a bonus strategy session. I love this because it allows us to go deeper into the conversation, apply the teachings to YOU and YOUR specific business, and connect on a deeper level. This is particularly important in the online space, where meeting someone and building trust can be more nuanced. P.S. Don’t forget to check out the holiday bazaar for 50% off my courses! When you’re IN by 12/8, you’ll get an email from me on 12/8 inviting you to a BONUS group strategy session on zoom (with the link). See you there! https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/coursemenu
I wrote a book in 3 weeks & in this episode, you’ll hear how. Here’s the thing - I didn’t even put paper to pen for this. I spoke the whole thing into an audiobook FIRST. I know, I know… that’s not how we’re ‘supposed to’ do it. But hey, you gotta do what works for you, right?

Just 6 years ago, the language of online business felt foreign to me. It was quite the mountain - first trying to learn the lingo, and then discerning facts from opinions (lots of opinions out there).
In this episode, you’ll learn the no-frills definition of 12 areas of online business that can sometimes feel like mental gymnastics. One liner explanations - for each! I know, it’s an almost impossible feat for my chatty butt.
In the words of my favorite Peloton instructor, Robyn Arzon, “this sucks, and that’s why we’re doing it together.” My hope is that you reach a point where it actually doesn’t suck, it gets to be flowy, and easier to navigate.
Note: Each of the 12 areas covered in this episode will be a full module in the upcoming program “7-Figure Strategy.” It’s a live 10-week course, where you’ll learn how to craft your dreamy 7-figure business. What should you do when something in your business structure just. isn’t. working?
This isn’t a real estate ‘highest and best use’ of the land assessment, so profit isn’t the key decision factor.
It’s also not always going to mean dismantling the whole business.
Try this assessment to help you decide when is the right time to rehab or demo different structures in your business.
After walking through the assessment, you’ll hear a bit of my own demo experience in my business. Why? 1) To give you ideas of different ways to structure &/or restructure your offers; 2) To let you know a few of the ways that you can work with me over the next 12 months.
Introducing The New Paradigm - 12 months of live classes, divided by the seasons.
To kick us off, it’s all business with 7-Figure Keys and 7-Figure Strategy in the fall.
You’ll have the option to purchase a seasonal ‘ticket’ for $777, or an annual ‘class pass’ for $2,222.
Or, you can upgrade to a VIP ticket. And here, VIP is not very important person (we are all very important). In this space, VIP is ‘Vibrational Integration Pass.’ The VIP level is a smaller group with twice monthly integration calls, at a price of $4,444.

If you’re stuck in the cycle of goal setting → pressure → hit/miss → repeat, this is for you. If the phrase ‘no brainer’ makes you feel some type of way, I hear you. In this episode, you’ll hear a bit of a conversation I had with a dear friend / mentor that forever expanded the way that I think about the meaning behind the phrase.

Okay Beyhive (& everyone who even kinda sorta rides with her), have you heard the new Beyonce song, “Break My Soul?” These lines hit me right in the gut:
“I’m lookin’ for a new foundation, yeah
And I’m on that new vibration
I’m buildin’ my own foundation, yeah”
Whattttt. If you remember, last month I taught a class on energetic business foundation, the WHY behind the platform of your business, and why YOU are the person to do the thing.
What then? Once you know exactly WHY you’re doing this thing… What comes next?
Time to pull the curtain back on my own business. For me, 2018 was the year I got clear on WHY. Then I started building my online foundation, my platform. The online platform that went on to help thousands of expecting families prepare for birth, and more than a thousand birth professionals & heart-centered entrepreneurs build their businesses.
How did I do it? In short, I built loads of digital resources, grew my audience (mostly organic), and learned how to create offers to support people (sell). I show you all of the how inside of the Online Business Bundle.
Note that while some of the videos are from 2019 & 2020, I won’t re-record them, and here’s why…
The courses are a time capsule of the energy that I was in at the time.
In 2019, I was a digital creation queen. I made several virtual workshops, classes, masterclasses, webinars, and more.
In 2020, I leveraged my digital products to help me build my audience, get my work in front of more people and generate my first six figures.
The energy of building a platform that supports you, the energy of passive income, the energy of growing an audience, and of reaching financial milestones… is in the videos.
So when you watch the replays, that is the energy available for you to vibe with.
If you desire to build your business’ platform online, and you appreciate the way that I approach business, the bundle is worth its weight in gold. Let’s build your platform, friend.

If your brain has ever been downright rude with the mental chatter, talking you out of things that ARE actually meant for you, this episode is for you.
This week, you’ll learn how to start recognizing unhelpful mental chatter before it spirals out of control, how to start listening to your heart and following what you’re led to.
We walk through a few examples from my own life / business to help you anchor in the concept: 1) First pregnancy; 2) Starting in the birth world; 3) Taking an energy healing practitioner training. ALL of which my brain said that I wasn’t a match for. And here I am, three pregnancies, a whole birth business, and energy healing practitioner later.

In this episode, you’ll learn a different way to think about the energy of free offers. And, I’ll pull back the curtain & walk you through how I structure free things in my business.
Unschool thoughts of the week: 1) question any generalizations that you’ve picked up along the way about free (red flags); 2) the purpose of free things isn’t to hook people and to sell to them.
Homework: 1) How can you offer something free in a way that serves you, too? 2) How can you set it up in a way that puts boundaries around your energetic output? 3) How would a free offering FEEL for YOU?

Picking up from where we left off last week, are you fired up for revisiting your 2022 goals? Before you get started goal setting for the remainder of the year, or YOUR new year, there’s a foundational piece that I want to share with you in this episode.
But first, a little background. In business school, we were taught how to make a business plan based on loads of market research. We collected public companies’ financial data, then plugged arbitrary estimates into our business plans.
Today, the way that I make a business plan is quite different. It isn’t starting with strategy, but starting with energetics.
If you’re not yet familiar with energy talk in regards to your business, you’re in good company. For today, you’ll learn a bit of business energetics 101, as it relates to building a home.
Enjoy!

Have you unpacked the first quarter yet? Um yes, we are more than three months into 2022! In this week’s episode, you’ll learn the importance of debriefing the first quarter to set yourself up for a successful year. Here’s the rundown of the episode:
Changing the way you think about the calendar → can change the meaning you assign to performance in a given period → which can help you move and evolve (instead of spiraling on the negative thought). And that is success.

There are two different types of business people: the serial entrepreneur and the accidental entrepreneur. Which are you? Can you guess which I am? I was born a serial entrepreneur, a product of two business owner parents, starting businesses since I was selling handmade dreamcatchers to my Mom’s clients in her hair salon. I live for the time freedom, financial freedom and impactful work.
So what exactly is an accidental entrepreneur? In my experience, this is the person that may have originally thought corporate jobs were ‘safe.’ The person that was so rocked by an experience (i.e. birth), that you decided the only way for you to experience joy in your vocation is by changing the world. Or, the person that experienced such heavy discomfort, pain even, that felt trapped in your traditional job. And one day you accidentally stumbled into being a business owner, realizing it is the only way to start to feel better, walk in your purpose, and help people.
Didn’t consider yourself an entrepreneur before listening to this episode because you don’t check certain boxes, or it makes you uneasy? Pull up a chair, or plug in your earpods. It’s time to claim business ownership, my friend.
If you have been led to believe that you have to be a certain type of person, your business has to reach a certain income level, have a certain number of employees, a certain number of clients, or even make money at all to be considered a business... it’s not true.
Journal homework: How can you allow yourself to embody more of your entrepreneur?

If you grew up with parents that believed you have to work hard to earn money, you’re in good company. I’ve watched my father work his tail off at his tire shop for my entire life - even today! While that was part of our family’s story, last year my business officially cut ties with that belief.
In this episode, you’ll learn how limiting the old business model of trading time for dollars can be, and how you can utilize tools & resources to help you change this belief in your life (and business).

As you’re unpacking, processing and saying goodbye to 2021, don’t forget to celebrate. Even if 2021 brought you heavy moments and challenges, remember that you can feel both grief AND celebration.
I’m sharing because this was one of the biggest things I learned last year. The old ways of jumping from goal to goal, without pause, felt incomplete. I had to learn how to slow down and celebrate. And I don’t mean just celebrating huge milestones or dollar amounts. I mean celebrating the micro moments, the things that don’t always make it to instagram, the seemingly little decisions and shifts that can change the trajectory of our lives.
Here’s my offer to you: celebrate yourself, celebrate your year, celebrate the micro (& major important) moments. What might that look like to you?

For the last 4-5 years, I’ve created an evolving, intentional process to close out the year. As you sit down to reflect on 2021, here are six questions to spend some time with:
Now, what do you desire to release this year?

Trigger warning: tax and money talk ahead.
Now that we cleaned out your physical and digital spaces in the last two episodes, let’s do a little organizing. Tax edition.
I’ll preface this episode with this: I am not an Accountant. I am not a CPA. However, I do have a degree in Finance, and I spent ten years in real estate finance before entering birth work.
In this episode, I’ll walk you through a few very simple steps that you can do now to prepare for 2022. But wait, you thought I said this year’s taxes??? Yes, there are things that you can do this year to prep for 2022. Hint: if you’re in the green, what can you invest in NOW, that you were planning to invest in next year anyway? Book those business expenses in this calendar year to take advantage of the deductions.

As you wrap up the year, we are continuing the clean out. In part 2 of the series, the focus is on cleaning out your digital spaces. Happy clearing!

Tomorrow is the first day of the last month of 2021! Well, that was fast, huh?
If you’re assessing your year relative to the goals you set in 2021, and you missed the mark, this episode is for you. Or heck, if you’ve ever missed a goal.

This week you’ll learn about how to turn a consult into a client with our special guest, and my client, Finnley Halley-Wheeler. Finnley has a - wait for it - 100% conversion ratio. Meaning, ALL of her consults for her private practice become clients. And now, Finnley is sharing how they do it.
A bit more about Finnley: Finnley (she / they) is a gender fluid & autistic Doula and coach for other Doulas, raising two kiddos in Kansas City. She has 11 years of experience serving people during all stages of the reproductive spectrum. Birth, abortion, tring to conceive, new parents, loss and grief–all of it. She is trained and certified as a birth doula, postpartum doula, placenta encapsulation specialist, childbirth educator, baby planner, infant sleep educator, Montessori teacher’s assistant, abortion doula and end of life doula. I sat on my brand new microphone for 18 months before putting it to use. True story. And here we are, celebrating two years and approximately 30,000 downloads on the Doulas Going Digital Podcast! To celebrate, I invite you to share the podcast to your Facebook page, your stories, groups you’re in and so on. Thank you for being here, for downloading, for subscribing and for being in my community.
In this episode, you’ll learn what moved me to dust off the microphone and start actually speaking into it after 18 months. I was stuck in an illusion of perfectionism. If it (the podcast) wasn’t going to be perfect, it wasn’t going to happen.
And then, one workshop in the Fall of 2019 changed things. My friend and business peer, Carol, introduced the concept of doing B- work. It was both uncomfortable and freeing at the same time. That week, I started practicing talking into my phone (in the otter app), made a list of 40-50 podcast topic ideas, and emailed back the editor that I’d ghosted a year and a half earlier.
She was right. This podcast is a thing because I got comfortable starting with B- work. We all start somewhere, and get better over time. Most of us don’t sit on a bicycle as a kid, knowing exactly how to pedal and stay upright. Learning to ride a bike takes practice. As does writing a post for social media, supporting a family during birth, teaching a class, or anything else that feels like a mountain to you right now.
My advice (per my dear friend Carol): get comfortable with B- work. Start where you’re at.

If the traditional role as a birth professional feels like it doesn't quite fit, you're in good company. In this episode, I'll explain how the stories of traditional roles have kept me playing small in motherhood and in starting my birth business.
For many of us, the message is that the traditional role of a birth doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator, or any other title that falls under the category of birth professionals is the ‘right’ or ‘only’ way to do this work.
My belief is that the traditional way is ONE of the beautiful ways to do this work. Just as the traditional role of motherhood is just ONE way to do it.
You'll learn how to stop staying small with this old story, how to move forward and expand in your birth business.
And, I'll share several examples of how your role in the birth industry might evolve over time, including:

Pivoting... again? Let's talk about how this may impact your birth business, and how you can prepare yourself.
March of 2020 was a shock to the system for all of us. We ALL learned a lot, including that we’ve been sold a lie about traditional 9-5 jobs being ‘safe.’ It’s another one of those BS stories that we’ve been conditioned to believe throughout our lives.
Here’s the thing - believing that traditional 9-5s are safe gives us a false sense of security. They never have been, and we saw that over the last 17 months. For the record, this isn’t to bash corporate or your 9-5. They serve a purpose, of course. And your job might carry you through getting started building your dream birth business, should you desire to do so.
Rather, this is to remind you that you can continue to build your dreams, no matter what’s happening in the world around you.
If having a sustainable birth business, or a virtual doula business, is part of your dream, you CAN have it. Entrepreneurship requires a lot of you. It takes time, sometimes tears, and a heavy dose of personal growth (i.e. the hardest sh*t to look at to help you expand)... but it’s SO worth it. You know what else takes time, and for me tears? Working a 9-5.
So if we are confronted with another situation that requires pivoting, we are more prepared this time than we were in March 2020. If you’ve been hanging with me, you know that much of our business, marketing, lead generation, and servicing our clients can be done with Wifi and some creativity. And if you’re new to me, I got you.

Last week on the podcast, I mentioned that I don’t think flaws are real. The theme of insecurities has been showing up a lot for me this week, so I thought I’d share my thoughts.
Yesterday I read on social media that insecurities are actually conditioned beliefs, which articulated exactly what I’ve been feeling come up.
At some point in history, someone (or a group of someone’s) decided what they believed to be acceptable, what they believed to be ‘beautiful,’ and created an impossible version for us to aspire to. And by the way, that version evolves over time, depending on the need.
Then we grew up surrounded, and conditioned by, those beliefs. Beliefs that were not our own. And if there was no one jumping in to say that it’s all lies, we believed them and accepted them as truth. Hence, flaws and insecurities were created.
Obviously, this doesn’t apply to everyone. What I’ve noticed is that many of the people who don’t subscribe to this BS were raised by parents that stood in their power, that did the healing work and stopped the madness. Then, they transferred that power to their children.
Many of us are being called to do this right now, and it’s not an easy thing. This thought process applies to birth fears as well.
Now, why is the relationship between YOUR insecurities and your community’s birth fears so important?
The cycle is serving NO ONE. If your insecurities are holding you back from: connecting, showing up, letting people in, taking a photo, sharing a photo, getting on zoom… you are perpetuating the cycle that is keeping all of us small.
It’s preventing you from helping your community work through their own conditioning - birth fears.
When you hold back your magic because of your ‘flaws,’ you’re effectively trading your conditioned belief for theirs… often in our industry that’s birth fear.

This episode answers the question: What are the Layers of your Virtual Doula Business Offers?
Think of it as an online Doula Business vocabulary lesson. I'll explain five of the most common levels of services and offers for your virtual Doula business, and how they take your potential clients on a journey (aka customer journey).
Before you dive in, know that you can start where you’re at, and build your empire as you go.

As birthworkers, Doulas and Childbirth Educators, we know that MORE families deserve to be supported during and after birth, right?
If you find yourself looking for new clients in your Doula business, I suggest pausing to inventory your own life. Ask yourself this question, "Do you have support in your life, in your business? If not, why is that? What’s underneath the feeling of ‘I can do it myself?"
Join me for a conversation on the difference between hiring help and allowing yourself to receive support, the cycle that's preventing families from seeking out more support and keeping your Doula business small.
Then, I'll explain how ONE shift in your life, and in your business, can change the way that you promote your Doula services. Effectively, how you can get more clients.

Burnout is SO real for solopreneurs, especially in birth work. It's not exactly 9-5, ya know? But here's the thing, the world needs your doula business, childbirth education classes and postpartum support to continue. And... to thrive. We can't afford for you to burn out. Having said that, here are six ways to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur: 1. Charge your worth. If you’re not making enough money, your energy may quickly be depleted.
Create offers that are sustainable. Burning the candle at both ends & running your business primarily on a model of trading time for dollars = recipe for burnout.
Only support people that you desire to work with.
Have fun & make it easy.
Let go of perfectionism and get comfortable with B- work.
Revisit your WHY, your mission, and realign as necessary.

Most birth businesses came to a screeching halt over the last few weeks. In this episode, I'll dive into some tips on how to navigate this transition that you're in.
First, know that you have permission to press pause on business for as long as you need. Your mental health is PRIORITY. And, there is no stigma with financial struggles right now - seek out government assistance (if it's an option), ask your lenders for deferral of payments, and know that much of the world is in a similar situation at the same time.
Then, it's time for some personal / business reflection. During this transition, allow yourself to surrender, just as you teach your pregnant clients that are waiting for birth. Accept the uncertainty that is.
What happens to your business during this period? My instinct is that, even with financial challenges, you will still help people. That's probably WHY you got into birth work, after all.
Here are some questions that may help you during this transition:

I'm hearing from Doulas and Childbirth Educators in Canada and the US that hospital protocols due to Coronavirus are impacting their business. Among other things, some hospitals are limiting the number of support people at births to ONE, not allowing for switching between the support person and doula, and limiting or banning additional people in the waiting room.
While I don't buy into the hysteria, I do believe that this is impacting women that are waiting for labor to begin and are counting on having their doula present at their birth.
In addition, this can impact your business. What can you do to honor your commitment to your client, in a way that supports your business? Also, how can you begin to prepare your business for potential future issues such as this?
