Hello, and thank you for listening to another episode of The Ian Cramer Podcast where I hope to provide you WITH a diverse collection of interviews with doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine.

I’d like to start off by thanking Frank Bragg as the newest Patron of the podcast. Thank you Frank, especially in this time of Covid. The world is very different, people’s lives are very different, including mine. So your generosity in this time is much appreciated.

In episode #95, I am speaking with Seth Yoder. He came onto my radar after his name was mention by a previous guest of the podcast. So I looked him up, read some articles he wrote and liked the guy immediately.

Like me, Seth really enjoys learning about nutrition and appreciates evidence and discourse. He does what very few people have time to do, critique the work of other people. I consider this to be what put Seth on the map. He is known in many circles for writing extensively about the work of Gary Taubes, who wrote many books including Good Calories, Bad Calories, and Nina Teicholz, who wrote The Big Fat Surprise.

In our discussion, we talk about his education and what motivated him to critique these books and these authors. We then speak about his work with a new project called Red Pen Reviews which seeks to review popular nutrition books for their scientific accuracy and healthfulness. And we end with talking about Seth’s advice on finding the best evidence within the nutrition space.

Without further delay, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Seth Yoder.

You can read Seth’s work at SethYoder.com, or follow him on Twitter @NutritionCast.

Thanks for listening

Welcome to the podcast that’s dedicated to making you healthier by interviewing medical doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. This is episode 94** of the Ian Cramer Podcast

In this episode, I am joined, again, by Gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, MD. He and I spoke way back in 2018 in Episode 36, and this time around he comes on again to speak about new studies and findings and his new book coming out “Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome"

In our discussion, we talk about how Will’s diet evolved over the years from Hoffman hot dogs and cool-aid as a kid to Brussel sprouts and brown rice as an adult.

We talk about Mood disorders, anxiety, depression and brain health and how the gut plays a role in mental health. We talk about myths and truths about fibers. Then we end with talking about we can look at evolution and how studying our ancestors can answer question about gut health and how we should be structuring out diets today.

Dr. B is a thoughtful, humble and genuine person and I’m very happy to bring him to you. Please support him and his book, go pick up a copy. If you appreciate evidence and scientific reasoning, I can’t emphasize it enough. I hope you find this conversation helpful on episode 94 with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz.

Hello again, and thank you for listening to the podcast that is dedicated to making you healthier and expanding your world view within the realm of Nutrition science, this is The Ian Cramer Podcast and I am your host, Ian Cramer.

In this time of the Corona Virus, some of us feel helpless. It feels like we’re stuck inside, we have to isolate, and can’t help people who may need help. If you want to do something, and you don’t have the skills to sew facemasks, you can Donate Blood. Patient with corona virus probably don’t need blood transfusions, but because of what’s happening and people isolating, there is a critical blood shortage. If you haven’t donated before, that’s OK. If you’re a seasoned donator, great! Go to RedCross.org and click on “Give Blood” at the top of the page. It's just a good thing to do, and makes you feel good afterwards.

This week, in Episode #93, I am joined by Dr. Jonathon McPhetres, PhD. Jon is a post doctoral research fellow at MIT and the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada. A large part of his research as a professor of psychology focuses on science literacy, understanding why some may reject science, skepticism surrounding GMO’s, why people fall for misinformation.

In our discussion, we focus on GMO’s. There is a lot of concern and fear surrounding GMO’s, especially within the health and nutrition space. Is this warranted? Are there legitimate harms associated with GMO’s? We start out with what are GMO’s, What are real life examples of GM Foods, the regulatory process and the safety of these foods and How Jon’s perspective has changes on this subject over time. We also cover the study he authored, entitled “Modifying attitudes about modified foods: Increased knowledge leads to more positive attitudes”, and end by talking about why people sometimes reject science. Having found Jon by accident, this was a very pleasant discussion, I really enjoyed it, and learned from Jon’s perspective.

I will post links to Jon’s website and his study in the show notes.

And without further delay, please enjoy my conversation on Episode #93, with Post Doctoral Fellow and Professor of Psychology, Dr. Jonathan McPhetress.

Modifying attitudes about modified foods: Increased knowledge leads to more positive attitudes I’m curious about whether you went into this discussion with a position on GMO’s, whether harmful or harmless or perhaps indifferent. And if that position changed?

I hope you enjoyed this conversation with Jon, and if you did and you think others around you would benefit from this, tell others around you about it, whether through word of mouth or social media. And make sure to use the hashtag #IanCramerPodcast and/or tag me directly, and I’ll be sure to share your post or retweet it to my audience. I appreciate it.

You can reach out to Jon directly on Twitter @JonMcPhetres, and you can also read his study linked in the show notes.

I haven’t mentioned this in a while, but you can get one of a kind Ian Cramer Podcast green and white stickers for your bumper, water bottle or laptop case. I’ve finally gotten around to creating a simple form on my website for you to fill out. This is episode #92, with Nutrition enthusiast, Nick Heibert. He is a blogger and creator of the Nutrient Density cheat sheet. He took linguistics and nutritional science at the University of Manatoba. By trade, he is an audio engineer, but as a passionate side hobby, he like learning and reading and writing about nutrition topics. He wanted to make sure I mention this…that he doesn’t consider himself an expert, but doing what he’s doing to learn as much as he can.

You may be asking…why is Ian interviewing a nutrition enthusiast? And not an expert? It’s partly because he’s an interesting character on Twitter who isn’t afraid to engage in discussions. He knows more than me about nutrition than me so I wanted to learn from him, and partly because of his general attitude and demeanor on Twitter. He is civil, engages responsibly, wants to learn, isn’t afraid of making mistakes and is not dogmatic about nutrition.

In our discussion, we spend a lot of time speaking about lipids, in particular this hullabaloo over olive oil. Is it healthy? Is it no? Does it cause atherosclerosis? Nick get’s really nichey with the science on this. We talk about MonoUnSat fats, PolyUnsat Fats and Saturated Fats,

We also talk about his Nutrient Density Cheat sheet which is a very useful tool to eat healthfully and cheaply, but is also a way to optimize your nutrition and learn what foods are highest in copper? Or other Vitamins and Minerals? It also covers the amino acid profile of foods, macro profiles, nutrient ratio scores and much more. And we talk about how you can get a discount on his cheat sheet…it’s at the end…listen to the episode!

We talk about Nick’s changing nutrition philosophies. We speak about how he was a huge fan of low carb nutrition, and how and why he turned pretty significantly to a more well rounded view of nutrition.

Nick and I end the discussion on 2 topics: One having to do with him challenging my beliefs and giving me things to think about that may run counter to narratives we often hear within the plant-based nutrition, AND second, an article Nick wrote about diabetes and he explains his unique interpretation of its etiology.

Hello, I am Ian Cramer and welcome to my podcast where I speak to doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. Lifestyle medicine is a branch of medicine where your chronic disease or ailment is treated and often times reversed with diet and lifestyle. If diet and lifestyle causes the chronic disease, it can likely be reversed with diet and lifestyle change, rather than prescriptions that mask symptoms or procedures that don’t address the root cause.

In episode 90, I am speaking with Dr. Bonnie Coyle. She is the Chairman of Community Health and Preventive Medicine at St. Luke’s University Health Network. I met her at the Lehigh Valley Vegfest in Tatamy, Pennsylvania. I reached out to Bonnie through previous podcast guest and organizer of the Lehigh Valley VegFest Meghan Grega.

This is one of the rare instances these days where I got to use my portable equipment and we had an in-person discussion, which listening to it in post-production had a different, more intimate feel. Given the choice, I would make all of my conversations in person because of better sound quality, more personal, more emotions, more social ques. They’re just better. Someday.

In our discussion, we speak about:

  • What got her into Lifestyle Medicine- I’m sure her story is very relatable with many listeners out there.
  • We address lifestyle and Preventative medicine juxtaposed to the modern medical paradigm and the work arounds for physicians and medical professionals out there who want to implement more of these preventative tactics and who still want to make a career out of it.
  • Because Bonnie’s territory spans both rural and urban in the Lehigh Valley, we speak about what differences she sees in those patient populations both from a perspective of specific diseases and their etiology and interventions to those problems.
  • One of the only chronic ailments we speak about is High Blood Pressure, Standards and how it’s a symptom that often flies under the radar.
  • Bonnie’s take on the Ketogenic diet- Devil’s Advocate.
  • The role epidemiology plays in Bonnie’s decisions and a common devil’s advocate question about Nutritional Epi.
  • Shift gears into speaking about Opioids and their prevalence in her area.
  • Universal Healthcare or Medicare for All.
  • Bonnie as the next Surgeon General-
  • End with something Bonnie has changed her mind on recently.

Thank you for listening, and I hope you enjoy my conversation, on Episode #90, with Physician Dr. Bonnie Coyle.

Hello everyone, and welcome to another episode of The Ian Cramer Podcast. I am the host Ian Cramer, and I strive to fill this podcast with thought leaders within the realm of lifestyle medicine. Allied Health Care professionals and expert academics who are either prescribing diet and lifestyle changes to their patients, or who are conducting research in this every growing field.

Before we get into this episode, I want to thank our sponsors. Actually…just kidding, there are no sponsors of the podcast. Other than the generous patronage of 52 individuals who enjoy my content, who value my work and who support my mission of helping people through diet and lifestyle change.

With that said, I’d like to thank our newest Patron Mike Eisenberg. Thank you Mike for your support and for listening. And if you find value in my work like Mike does, you too can become a patron for as little as $1 per episode by logging on to Patreon.com/IanCramerPodcast.

In episode 89, I am joined by a previous guest of the podcast. Dr. Evan Allen who joined me for episode 62 of the podcast comes back for another discussion on his specialty, dietary fats.

In my eyes, there is a lot of debate lately around dietary fats and saturated ftas. One side is saying they are unhealthy and should we avoid them as much as possible, and there’s an every growing and enthusiastic side that is proclaiming that all of the science implicating saturated fats in the past 70 years is bunk and there isn’t really strong evidence for avoiding Saturated Fats.

Insert: Dr. Evan Allen. One of the leading experts arguing for limiting Saturated fats. He too has seen this confusion and debate as of late and understood how sound the science was. And because of that he decided to write a book on the subject entitled : Oversaturated: A guide to conversations about Fats with your patients. You can buy his book and educate yourself about Saturated Fats wherever books are sold.

In our discussion we speak about:

  • His new Book on Saturated Fats and why he wanted to write it.
  • Specific papers in the literature that conclude that Sat. Fats are not harmful, and why those papers are wrong.
  • We go into different types of evidence that we have based nutritional recommendations on.
  • We speak about the 4 papers and 1 editorial published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in October 2019 that conclude, again, that Sat. Fats are not harmful.
  • We talk at length about a chapter in his book on Ceramides, what they are and should we be concerned.
  • Populations that changed their diets to one of lower saturated fats and saw improvements in their health.

Without further delay, please enjoy my second conversation with Evan Allen, on Episode #89.

Closing:

Nutrition science is confusing, even to someone like me who has been learning about this for the past 8 years. Which is why it’s really nice to have someone like Dr. Allen out there to explain the science and the counter points.

If you enjoyed this and if you feel others around you are confused about saturated fats or diet in general, share it with your networks, friends and family. There are so many ways you can do this…social media, word of mouth, directly from your podcast player.

Take a screenshot or screen grab of the podcast and share it that way, too.

You can also thank Dr. Allen directly, connect with him and even ask him follow-up questions on Twitter @EAllen0417. And as I mentioned in the Intro, he has a new book out Entitled Oversaturated: A guide to conversations about Fats with your patients that you can purchase as well.

As always, you can connect with me on Instagram at IanMCramer, Facebook or to get the quickest response, on Twitter @IanCramer.

Thank you for listening, thank you for taking an interest in your health and your future. Keep eating more plants, remain responsible ambassadors to whatever movement you’re passionate about, and stay healthy. We’ll see you in 2 week.

Welcome to the Ian Cramer Podcast…where I am interested in speaking with doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine, teaching people about chronic diseases, their etiology and encouraging people to prevent and reverse their chronic diseases with diet and lifestyle factors.

In Episode 88, for the second time on the podcast, I am joined by the dynamic duo, Robby Barbaro and Cyrus Khambatta. They are the founders of the Mastering Diabetes approach to diabetes prevention, reversal and regression. It’s a privilege to be sharing with you the announcement of their new book, Mastering Diabetes, The revolutionary method to reverse insulin resistance permanently, in Type 1, 1.5, 2, pre-diabetes and Gestational diabetes.

This book that took 2 years to write has over 800 citations, 30 recipies and a 21-day meal plan for how to execute this program, detailed info on scientific questions on diabetes and insulin resistance. They teach you the science that your doctor never taught you. For the super nerds out there who really want to understand the biology and physiology of various types of diabetes, this is the book for you. For diabetics, the prospect of eating fruit is a game changer! This book teaches you the science of why eating fruit and potatoes and carbohydrate rich food is not only possible, but recommended. They also have a simple green light, yellow light and red light traffic light system that makes it simple to figure out what to eat.

Robbie and Cyrus joined me for Episode 52. And if you want a phenomenal 1-2 punch primer and advanced discussion on diabetes, listen to these 2 episodes. In this episode, we start off by speaking about the fundamental differences in the 2 primary diabetes philosophies out there. There’s the “Carbohydrate-centric” philosophy which seeks to limit dietary carbohydrates, then there’s the “Fat-centric’ philosophy that Robbie and Cyrus adhere to which seeks to limit dietary saturated fats and put diabetes patients on a high carbohydrate diet. Crazy to think about, but they are seeing amazing success. And as I said in our first conversation, if you’re skeptical, please keep an open mind, listen to this episode and then form a position after. Robbie and Cyrus are 2 of the most un-imposing characters in this space, they mentioned at the end that they’re not out to argue with people, create enemies, bad-mouth others. They’re mission is to help people and give them information to take control of their health.

We move onto the cause of diabetes, defining insulin resistance and trying to elucidate its etiology. And I pose many devil’s advocate questions of my own that I have observed on twitter and the interwebs.

I get their thoughts on CGM’s for diabetics and non-diabetics, their thoughts on fasting insulin, and then we go into questions from twitter covering the relationship between BMI and T2D, the effect of Sat. Fats from plants on blood glucose control, MD referrals to the Mastering diabetes program, PB Keto and Adverse events from their high-carb program for diabetics.

Without further delay, please enjoy my second conversation, on Episode 88, with Robbie Barbaro and Cyrus Khambatta, PhD.

The best way to buy Robby and Cyrus’s book, is to go to https://www.masteringdiabetes.org/book/

They can check out from multiple places, like Amazon, Barnes and Nobel and a couple others. International listeners and buyers can also order it from that link as well. I will put this link in the description as well as the links to follow Robby and Cyrus on Social media.

Really had a good time speaking with Robby and Cyrus, they explain things and complement each other very well. I’ve created many sharable audiograms for this episode that I post on FB, IG and Twitter. Please share those in the next several weeks, as well as the podcast itself on any social media site.

Hello and welcome to another episode of The Ian Cramer Podcast. I am the one-man-band podcast creator Ian Cramer.

This podcast seeks to interview doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. I want to bring thought leaders to my audience, those who are doing research within the lifestyle medicine, nutritional science space, or who are treating patients using diet, exercise, and lifestyle approaches. Why do I do this?

Well, I hate to be a pessimist, but our healthcare system isn’t working that well. In the United States, we’re spending way more money per person than other countries, and it doesn’t really seem like people are getting healthier. What are we spending that money on? Procedures and prescriptions! And status-quo! When what we really need more of is basic education, lifestyle interventions, we don’t need the latest greatest stent or lipid-lowering medication, what we need is lasting diet and lifestyle changes. And those who emphasize these pillars, is who I fill this podcast with. Welcome.

In Episode 87, am joined by a Twitter lighting rod. His name is Kevin Bass, and at least from my observations of him, lots of people love him, and a disproportionate number of people do not like his style.

Kevin is an MD/PhD student in Texas. He has a BS in biology and BA in anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin and an MS in immunology. For his PhD, he studies the potential use of the ketogenic diet as an adjunctive therapy in the prevention and treatment of cancer, focusing particularly on the role of G-protein-coupled receptor GPR109A. He will return to medical school in 2021 to complete his medical degree. He also has a particular interest in nutrition, nutrition science and how diet and lifestyle play a role in chronic disease prevention and reversal.

What caught my attention about Kevin and what motived me to speak to him for an episode of the podcast was the way he always speaks up when something is not evidence-based. He is candid, he’s sometimes rough around the edges, yet also capable and open to scholarly discussions, He challenges my thinking, gets my wheels turning and makes me think more critically about topics having to do with chronic diseases, diet and lifestyle changes.

I’ve also enjoyed reading Kevin’s blog articles on various topics within nutritional science. He stands up for what’s right, he speaks up against pseudoscience, espouses scientific integrity, he is intellectually honest and curious, and even in this episode, he pushed back a few times on my statements and philosophies with his interpretations of the literature. I find the way he approaches topics in an unbiased and pro/con way very refreshing.

In this discussion, we speak about his doctoral dissertation on a Ketogenic diet and cancer. We start with discussing the physiology of a ketogenic diet, then dovetail into the origins of this dietary strategy and different definitions of ketogenic diets. We then speak about various applications of ketogenic diets such as Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Obesity and metabolic disorders, and longevity, and then end with a summary of the literature on ketogenic diets and cancer prevention and treatment.

You may hear in this episode that we mention a Part 1 several times. We did record a part 1 several weeks before we recorded this. But after some deliberation, we agreed that we would not publish that because we weren’t happy with it. In spending over 3 hours with Kevin, I learned things not only about ketogenic diets but also how to be a better podcaster and host and interviewer, which is something else I appreciate about him.

I thank Kevin very much for his time, and thank you for listening. Without further delay, I hope you enjoy my conversation, on Episode number 87, with Kevin Bass.

I really enjoyed that, and appreciate how much time Kevin gives people, whether it’s a podcast, or on twitter or through his blog articles. I highly recommend you check out his blog at NutritionRevolution.org where he has the tag line ‘Science is a permanent revolution”.

I hope many of you are new listeners to the podcast through Kevin’s reach on Twitter, and if this episode met your expectations, please consider sharing this episode on social media. I always pin the most recent episode on my Twitter page, or FB page. Use the hashtag IanCramerPodcast.

Welcome to Episode 86 of the The Ian Cramer Podcast.

If you're new to the podcast, it's full of people like my guest this week. Smart experts within nutritional science with different specialties and perspectives on how people can live healthier lives using foot, diet and lifestyle factors.

Quick shout out to Sarah Ann Cook, who has joined the Ian Cramer Podcast club of passionate supporters and contributors as a patron. I am honored that Sarah and many others have generously decided to make per-podcast donations to help me continue my work into 2020 and beyond. Patron and listener donations help offset the costs of hosting subscriptions, tools, resources, equipment and other important stuff to keep the lights on. If you enjoy and look forward to these conversations, you too can become a patron and help support my work by logging on to Patreon.com/IanCramerPodcast. A Patron recently pointed out, rightly so, that I don’t have any commercials at the beginning of my podcast advertising Mattresses, clothing or vegan hot dogs. Besides these short monologs and intros, I want to keep these episodes free from commercials. It just makes more sense that way to be supported by the listener, rather than large companies.

In episode #86, I am speaking to Registered Dietician and Postdoctoral Fellow and the Baylor School of Medicine, Kevin Klatt. Kevin came on to my radar through…any guesses??? Twitter!

Kevin received his PhD in Molecular Nutrition from Cornell University and completed his dietetic internship at the National Institutes of Health. His research focuses on better understanding nutrient metabolism and requirements using in vitro and animal model systems, as well as human intervention and controlled feeding trials. Kevin is an active member of the executive committee of the Research Dietetics Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and serves on the Public Information Committee of the American Society for Nutrition.

To begin our conversation, Kevin and I speak about Choline, an alleged nutrient of concern. We go into the nitty gritty on its chemical make-up, it’s physiologic purpose and if it is indeed, a nutrient of concern. Towards the end of 2019, an article was spreading around social media saying those eating a plant-based diet aren’t going to get enough…and more accurately, were going to be dumber because they weren’t going to get enough. Pro Tip: If a headline disparages a group based on their diet, it’s click-bait and likely not true.

We also speak about another dietary metabolite of concern, TMAO. This is often thrown around within the plant-based circles as something that we should be aware of…so I ask Kevin if this is true.

I get Kevin’s take on a plant-based diet and a Keto diet and the healthfulness and potential risks of those diets. We speak about the controversial role of epidemiology in shaping dietary practices. And lastly, we speak about the term ‘moving the goalposts’ within nutritional science how you can tell if someone is doing this, why they might be doing it, and what you can do to spot it and respond.

Without further delay, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Registered Dietician and Post-doctoral fellow, Kevin Klatt.

I’ve enjoyed Kevin’s writing and tweeting for many months, and there are many people like me. He is seen as one of the most reasonable and non-dogmatic academic voices within the sphere of nutrition science on Twitter. And with that theme of reason, one of the underlying messages I hope to convey in these conversations is keeping an open mind and staying curious. Ask questions, use evidence, listen to other arguments and lines of evidence that are given. Step away from the echo chambers and expose yourself to various lines of thought to become more well rounded and to understand the broader consensuses in this field.

Please share this podcast with those around you, by word of mouth or through social media. I always Pin the most recent episode on my Twitter and Facebook, and you can also share from my website, IanMCramer.com, as well as iTunes or whatever podcasting app you use. And when you do, use the hashtag, IanCramerPodcast.

You can connect with Kevin on Twitter @KCKlatt. And you can connect with me @IanCramer.

Thank you for listening, and please look forward to many more episodes like this one coming out every other Saturday, on The Ian Cramer Podcast.

Hello 2020, and Welcome Everyone. This is the voice of Ian Cramer and this is the start of the 4th year of my podcast, where I seek to interview doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. The professionals that fill this podcast are treating patients in the field, reversing chronic diseases, prescribing diet and lifestyle changes in order for their patients to regain their health, without the emphasis on pills and procedures. I do this because I enjoy learning and I’m sure listeners can learn something from the experiences of my guests.

I’d first like to extend a special Thank You to Jeff Johnson and an Anonymous Patron as the newest Patrons of the Podcast. This anonymous Patron wrote to me and said “I share your curiosity and open-mindedness…Please continue to interview people who do not entirely share your own line of thinking. This has been hugely helpful to me, and I suspect many others as well…In 2020 I'm hoping the nutrition community can focus more on areas of agreement, as well as exploring the unknowns in areas of disagreement”. Me Too, Well said.

I would also like to Thank Stacy Banks, who has helped me over the past year with my social media. She has assisted me with scheduling posts and streamlining my social media to free up some time, and for her hard work I’d like to thank her publicly. Thank you again, Stacy.

In Episode 85, I’m speaking with Brooklyn Borough president Eric Adams. I learned about Eric through an article highlighting his story, his health scare and his determination to do everything he could to reverse the damage that had been done and regain his health without prescriptions. I was also encouraged to interview Eric from a Patron who lives in Brooklyn, thank you Natasha for the gentle nudges to reach out to Eric and get him on the podcast.

In our conversation, we speak about his S&S he experienced as he learned of several chronic ailments. Including his Type 2 diabetes, and the significance of an A1C of 17.

As someone who favors prevention over treatment, I ask Eric to reflect on his journey and think about if anything could have changed his diet and lifestyle years before he was actually forced to take action.

As the President of the Borough of Brooklyn, we talk about changes taking place in his jurisdictions to help people lead healthier lives. At the time of this interview which was Late 2019, there was recently a ban on Chocolate Milk in all NYC Schools, and we talk about the process of making legislation that affects food, and people’s health and wellbeing.

And Lastly, we speak about how other civic leaders and change makers can make a difference in their areas and how you can help others lead healthier lives from a policy perspective.

Without further delay, I hope you enjoy our conversation on Episode 85 with Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams.

THE BEAUTY OF this age we’re living in now, is we can all be change makers. You’re all leaders, and role models…even if you’re not in an elected position, you can all help people around you. I am inspired by Eric to do more in my area to change the food environments, policies and laws to help people get healthier.

Start small, you don’t have to shoot for the moon. Start with your friends, have a pot-luck, have an informational session about living a healthier diet and lifestyle at your house. Several years back when I was presenting at local libraries about the power of diet and lifestyle on health and disease, some people reached out to me saying that they started to present at local libraries after they saw me do it. That made me feel good. Don’t think that you’re too small, or don’t know enough people to make change. Change starts one person at a time. No matter what topic it is, I encourage you to do what you’re passionate about and keep it fun, keep it responsible and respectful. People are listening and willing to follow people who lead by example.

It is going to be a busy month of January, at last count I have 8 interviews booked that I’m really excited about. I say over and over to myself, to keep this fun. Speak to people who interest me, about topics that I want to learn more about. And by extension, I hope you want to know more about too. I’ve hashed out my 2020 plan and guest list, and it’s going to be a better year than last.

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Ian Cramer Podcast, where I seek out doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. Smart people who are either doing research, who have a very particular sub-specialty or who are treating patients directly in the field. Lee came highly recommended from several people as someone who is knowledgeable and an energetic, ball of fire when it came to nutrition and motivating people to transform their health.

Joining me for Episode 84 is Lee Crosby, a Registered dietician employed at The Barnard Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Lee sees patients and advises them when it comes to weight loss, preventing and reversing heart disease, diabetes and women’s health issues. As you’ll hear, she had her own health scare a few years ago that taught her some valuable lessons about the role diet and lifestyle play in chronic disease.

In this episode, we speak about Ketogenic diets. With full disclosure, Lee is a very outspoken critic of Ketogenic diets. To be fair, we do speak about the positive applications of a ketogenic diet, and caution people on the risks and downsides of eating this way as well.

A quick producers Note: You’ll notice very quickly that the sound quality coming from my end on this conversation is terrible. Instead of using my studio mic, the sound was being recorded from my built in microphone from my computer. The reason has been identified and I hope that it never happens again. This is the reason why I stress to my guests to obtain an after-market microphone and DO NOT use the built-in mics. That come stock in computers.

To the regular listeners of the podcast, I thank you for the time you’ve given me over the past year, and for those of you who are new, I hope you stick around for more episodes. Have a happy holiday and New Year, as you enjoy the last conversation of 2019, on Episode #84 with Registered Dietician Lee Crosby.

In episode 83, I'm speaking with Clinical Lipidologist Dr. Thomas Dayspring. Dr. Dayspring and I connected through Twitter where I was consuming his content for many months before I reached out to him to do this podcast. It amazed me at how many very smart doctors and PhD's on twitter asked him questions about the role lipids play in the body. As Dr. Peter Attia, MD said in his intro of Dr. Dayspring, he is truly a national treasure and it the worlds expert on lipids.

In our conversation, we talk about:

  • How he got introduced to lipids
  • His recent health transformation.
  • The Standard Lipid Panel and what those metrics mean.
  • Misconceptions within the field of lipids
  • The role LDL plays in cardiovascular disease and those who deny this
  • Particular concerns when it comes to ones blood lipids on certain popular dietary lifestyles.

In episode 82, I am speaking with Toni Okamoto, author of Plant-Based on a Budget. Toni and I speak about how she got involved in this movement, how being an athlete in high school got her introduced to eating better and how she became involved in the world of veganism. The majority of the conversation is spent highlighting her book and dispelling the myth that it's expensive to eat healthy. I hope you enjoy the conversation and hope you pick up a copy of her book.

My guest is Dr. Pauli Ohukainen, PhD, a Finnish post-doctoral researcher. We speak about his start in biochemistry and then speak about blood lipids and how they affect human health. Paul gradually moved into the field of medical research. His time was spent focusing on the heart, heart valves and the aorta and what physiologic and metabolic processes causes these tissues to break down and become athrosclerotic. Paul came onto my radar through his content on twitter, where he is quite active. He often speaks of blood lipids, which is where we spend the rest of the time in our conversation.

This podcast comes out every other week, so look forward to Part 2 coming out on Saturday, November 16, 2019.

Jay Oliveira is a black belt in jiu jitsu and an educator on plant-based nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle. He is someone who truly embodies what it means to follow your dreams, live your passions and do what makes you happy.

Jay came onto my radar about 5 or 6 years ago through YouTube, when I was learning about this lifestyle. His style is no nonsense, no fluff, simple, candid, uses evidence. He’s also an athlete, which appealed to me as well.

Our discussion takes a walk down a different road than normal. We step away from the details of medicine and talk about living a fulfilled life, living your dreams, living healthy.

We speak about Jay’s story of being a young professional, working himself to the bone and being nauseous at the thought of leaving for work every day for a job he hated. We speak about him being an athlete, and being unhealthy, and then finding a healthy lifestyle again. Jay is a black belt in jiu jitsu, and we speak about that. We also speak about trends within social media on nutrition and personal health and provide ways to think about that.

The big take-away that I want to discuss in the epilogue is following your north star, doing what makes you happy and marching to the beat of your own drum. Jay and I talk about going through life transitions that are hard, that in the moment seem destructive or uncomfortable. But that life is long, and that we need to put things into perspective.

Special thank you to Liane Abe and Valarie Hummel who are the newest patrons of the Podcast.

In this weeks conversation, I sat down with Registered Dietician, PhD researcher and Twitter “Equal Opportunity Nutrition Critic” Jake Mey.

I wanted to speak to Jake because he seemed to have unique philosophies on areas that are particularly hot right now. He conducts research on skeletal muscle metabolism, ketones and carbohydrates.

He is not wedded to one particular dietary strategy vs. another which provided a nuanced and educational back and forth on various nutrition topics.

We speak about the concept of moderation in a world that is becoming more and more unhealthy and answer the perennial question “Can I eat Pop-Tarts and still be healthy?”

We also speak about ketones, ketosis and the pros and cons for lay people and athletes. And we end with Jake’s perspective on the nutrition conversations that are happening right now on social media and if he thinks these are productive, wastes of time or somewhere in between.

If you are active on Twitter, I would recommend following him @CakeNutrition, and yes, we speak about the origins of that handle, too.

I know you’ll enjoy this conversation with the knowledgeable and jovial Dr. Jake Mey.

If you’re new to the podcast, I focus on speaking to medical doctors, PhD’s, registered dietitians…experts…on ways that we can make ourselves and our world healthier through lifestyle medicine. Through these conversations I want to give you the tools and inspiration you need to stay healthy.

It is my honor to bring you researcher and scholar Dr. Stephan Guyenet, PhD. He is an obesity researcher and health writer based out of Washington State who combines neuroscience, physiology, evolutionary biology and nutrition to present mechanisms, explanations and solutions to the global health and weight issue we are seeing today.

This connection was made on Twitter, where he is quite active @whsource and you can also find his writing at StephanGuyenet.com.

In our conversation, Here’s what we cover:

  • We start with talking about his upcoming appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience with Gary Taubes.
  • At around Minute 14- We go into What caused a dramatic increase in obesity in 1980 after the USDA guidelines changed.
  • At Minute 22- The government’s role in shaping our diet and keeping us healthy.
  • At Minute 28…The Carbohydrate insulin Hypothesis
  • At minute 37-Research into why the SAD is so enticing
  • At minutes 47: We cover the Calories In vs. Calories Out hypothesis
  • At Minute 52 We cover The Lipostat, a very important, unconscious brain center for adiposity and body fatness

  • At 1:07 we end with talking about different interventions for Type 2 diabetes
  • And lastly, at 1:19 Dr. Guyenet’s ways to make the country healthier is he were a mover and shaker, that at around minute…

I’ve read a lot of books over the years, and Dr. Guyenet’s book, The Hungry Brain was full of new concepts, theories and connections that I had never read before, and best of all, it’s incredibly evidence-based yet is written in a way that can be digested for the lay-public.

I hope you enjoy this conversation on Episode #63 with Dr. Stephan Guyenet.

Bringing you interviews, conversations and new perspectives with doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine, this is Episode 62 of The Ian Cramer Podcast.

As you heard in the intro, this podcast is dedicated to having long-form conversations with professionals and experts about various topics having to do with lifestyle medicine. Included is an emphasis on both Breadth and depth of knowledge and questions challenging our notions and philosophies of what it means to be healthy.

In Episode 62 I had a conversation with Dr. Evan Allen. Dr. Allen practices in Henderson, Nevada. He is a board-certified family physician and graduate of Loma Linda School of medicine, member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and Diplomat of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. This connection was made on Twitter where he is quote active espousing the role of diet and lifestyle in staying healthy, and you can follow him @EAllen0417.

Dr. Allen started out as a Seventh-Day Adventist, and thought that because he was eating a vegetarian diet, he was eating right. But a life insurance physical said otherwise.

He then happened to watch the movie Forks Over Knives, and as you’ll hear him say “There was no way that this movie was correct” and he set out to prove this movie wrong. I’ll let him finish this story….but just know that it made me smile and it worth a listen.

In this episode, We talk about:

  • What are we eating and how those calories impact our bodies
  • Diabetes and an easy to follow analogy that describes its etiology.
  • Then we get into Fats- One of Dr. Allen’s specialties.
    • We talk about the lines of evidence implicating saturated fats as a causative factor in cardiovascular diseases, and why these fats are so hotly debated today.

I hope you enjoy this conversation, on Episode #62 with Dr. Evan Allen.

Hi, and welcome to my podcast where I engage doctors, scholars, PhD’s, registered dietitian and many other experts in their field on topics that gravitate around lifestyle medicine, the power we have to take control of our own health and how our diet and lifestyle factors affect the world around us. The goal is not to tell you the right or wrong thing to do, it’s to educate, to expand consciousness to open or illuminate doors you never knew were there to ultimately become a more knowledgeable and healthier person.

This connection with my guest Saul Bautista was made through a mutual friend who has now recommended several people for the podcast. It was fun speaking to Saul because he’s around my age, he wasn’t as intimidating as some of my other high-profile guests and we weren’t in a huge hurry to get done by a certain time. We had time to talk organically.

In trying to summarize this conversation and the course Saul’s life has taken, the word ‘fate’ comes to mind. Everything from his time in being with the Army, to his parent’s divorce to him getting injured to the signing of the GI Bill, all played a serendipitous role in who he is and where he is right now.

Noteworthy talking points include:

  • How his experience in the armed forces shaped who he is today and solidified his decision to go into medicine.
  • His interest in exercise and disease prevention.
  • The Relationship of doctors and lifestyle medicine and the reasons why we don’t see more doctors doing this now.
  • The relationship between medicine and medical students, creativity and aversion to risk has on the spread of this idea of lifestyle medicine.
  • We end with talking about his appearance in the much hyped Code Blue film that highlights the lack of nutrition and lifestyle medicine education in med. Schools. It’s the brainchild of podcast guest by Dr. Saray Stancic, who was featured on Ep. 32 of the podcast.

It’s Saul’s perspective as a med student and as someone who has a deep understanding of the power of lifestyle medicine that makes this talk unique. Please enjoy our conversation, on Episode #60, with Saul Bautista.

Hello podcast listener, welcome to the Ian Cramer Podcast where I interview doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. What is Lifestyle Medicine? It's a way for you to prevent or reverse a chronic disease by changing your diet and lifestyle. Because after all, it was those factors that caused that chronic disease anyways. So let's address the root cause and get healthier, for good.

In this episode, I'm having a conversation with The Vegan Pediatrician Dr. Natalie Santiago. She came into Rochester to speak to the Rochester Area Vegan Society as well as Dr. Ted Barnett's Rochester Lifestyle Medicine Institute. We speak about her background, how she transitioned from vegetarianism to veganism, how she learned differentiates between healthy and unhealthy foods, even if they all share the label 'vegan'. And of course, we speak about childhood health and nutrition, what parents should be concerned about and how to raise healthy kids on a plant-based diet.

Welcome to The Ian Cramer Podcast, and Happy 2019. The conversations on this podcast focus on doctors, scholars and experts within diet, lifestyle and plant-based nutrition.

In this conversations, I speak with Chef AJ, a rockstar within this movement who has an amazing story of perseverance and never giving up on the north star called health. We do our best to summarize her life in about an hour. It's a story of growing up an overweight food addict, being surrounded in an environment where many people around her were overweight, surrounded by poor food choices and a poor environment for supporting health. But it end with eventual success. Chef AJ was able to find the right pieces to the puzzle and find a way to become healthy, for good.

Chef AJ has the right attitude; not blaming others, not blaming her genetics, but taking her health into her own hands and taking control of he own health destiny. Despite the genetics predispositions she may have inherited from her parents, she has not let those genetics dictate her day to day decisions on trying to live as healthful as possible.

Chef AJ is a ball of fire, she supportive, frank and inspiration and I think you'll really enjoy her in this episode, but I encourage all of you to check out her work on Facebook where she empowers people to take control of their health.

Please enjoy this conversation on Episode 58, with Chef AJ.

Dr. Jamie Kane didn’t really like the choices available for fellowships as he was graduating from his residency. None of them appealed to him. And because of that, he blazed his own trail, learned about the intricacies of Obesity and years later started a fellowship in Obesity Management for future medical students.

In our conversation, Dr. Kane and I discuss the current medical system and how it’s set up in a way to discourage the interventions that our patients need the most. It’s easy and quick to prescribe pills, to ask them if anything has changed since last visit.

But it takes time to dig down and figure out what’s wrong with a patient who weighs 400 pounds. It take more than a 15 minute follow-up slot. The Physical, Mental and Emotional all play different roles for different people, and it’s an incredibly gray, nuanced area of medicine. But luckily, we have people like Dr. Jamie Kane.

Look forward to topics such as food, exercise, circadian rhythm, breaking addictive cycles and how Dr. Kane himself deals with emotions, at times, with unresponsive or unmotivated patients.

I want to end by giving a shout out to a couple of new patrons of the podcast. Because she may want to retain some form of anonymity, I want to use just her first name, thank you to Anna for your very generous yearly donation. Anna doesn’t really feel comfortable with donating to the Patreon page of the podcast, and that’s OK. If you want to support my work financially, there are other avenues or ways you can do this. If this sounds like you, reach out in any way that’s convenient and we’ll talk. Thank you, Anna for your generosity.

Another big thank you to Danielle Durant, who is a new patron and new member of the Board of Trustees. Danielle is completing her PhD in Public Health and is gung ho for lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition. And in her multiple e-mails we exchanged back and forth, she said “I just recently started listening to your show and LOVE IT! I am a big fan of Rich Roll but he doesn't interview enough plant based docs, in my opinion. I have been bingeing your content since I found your podcast, and even though I have studied plant-based nutrition pretty extensively, I still learn something new in each episode.”

Wow..thank you Danielle. It’s surreal and humbling that someone would mention the content that Rich Roll’s produced and the work that I produce in the same sentence because he is an idol of mine and someone that I look up to, but on the other hand, Rich and I and all of you who are listening, we’re all on the same team. We’re all teammates, we’re all on a mission seeking the same set of goals; to get healthier and live as advocates and ambassadors to this movement in some form or fashion.

Words like Danielle’s and donations are wind in my sails. But like I’ve said in the past, any small gesture of appreciation for my work is great, it’s not like if you don’t donate I don’t appreciate you.

Other things you can do to help the cause are sharing episodes on social media- That’s how Danielle learned about my podcast, through social media… or you could also write a review on the iTunes store, buy me a book or send me a Tweet of appreciation and I’ll retweet it…they’re all great! Thank you. I’m glad these episodes are helping you. And please look forward to many more in the future. We’ll see you in a couple of weeks.

If you or someone you know if living with pre-diabetes, Full blown Type 2 diabetes or is a Type 1 diabetic, this is the episode for you.

Robby and Cyrus are experts at treating and reversing pre-diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes, a scourge to over 100 million people in the US, according to a new CDC report.

In our discussion, we get into the details of what is truly causing Type 2 Diabetes, the enormous role our diet plays in causing this and the role our diet can play in reversing it. We also juxtapose their method of treating diabetes with other methods touted in the interwebs and talk about which one is better and why.

And as you could tell in the intro, Robby and Cyrus treat it very differently than you would think. They are able to reverse a disease of too much blood sugar with foods that contain lots of carbohydrates, or sugars. It seems wildly counterintuitive and it seems like they’re nuts, but Trust me, by the end of this hour, you will understand why, you’ll understand the root cause of why people have Type 2 Diabetes and be able to take control of your health and learn more about this completely 100% preventable disease.

So, Let’s get right into it, on Episode 52, with Robby Barbaro and Cyrus Khambatta of Mastering Diabetes.

Special thank you to Adam Sud who gave me a nudge and recommended I speak with Robby and Cyrus. I really enjoyed that conversation. And more thank you’s to 2 new patrons, Fellow plant-based CYcist Stephen Collins and Bilberry Elf, thank you for your kindness and support.

Do you pay for a Netflix subscription? Or Perhaps Sports Illustrated, National Geographic or The New York Times? If so, you do this because you get value and enjoyment out of those publications, magazines or newspapers. In this case, my publication is free and always will be because I feel in the bottom of my heart that this information is too important to withhold from the public. So my business model is slightly different and the barriers to obtain this information are essentially zero, but the ‘value aspect’ still remains. And so I will end this episode with asking you, how much do you value these conversations? You might say “Not enough to pay for them”. And that’s fine, no judgment. Enjoy them and I hope you learn and get healthier. But you want to help my cause and my work and help this message of plant-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine, join the 34 other Listeners and Patrons who feel the same way. Per Month, Sports Illustrated is around $1, The New York times and Netflix is $8, and National Geographic is $12. We have Patrons donating 1, 2, 5, 10 or as much as $40 per month for these thoughtful and well researched conversations. And I really appreciate your support. To find out more about how this works, you can visit Patreon.com/IanCramerPodcast to read about the donation levels, the perks or what you can do to help if donating isn’t your cup of tea.

The bottom line is I hope you get something out of these conversations, I do this because I love it and it’s a labor of love. I want to change the world with this message, and would love for you to join me.

Until next time, keep eating more plants, keep asking questions and stay curious, remain responsible and compassionate ambassadors to this movement, and stay healthy.

Dr. Koushik Reddy is a physician working for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in Tampa, Florida. Although his story has its unique details, his overall journey to find lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition is like many others. He learned about how the human body works and trained in traditional western medicine techniques. He had an ‘Ah ha” moment and realized there must be another way to practice medicine. He stood on the shoulders of giants in the field and learned from the teachings of many physicians who were the early trailblazers. And now practices and teaches lifestyle medicine to everyone he encounters and is now truly helping people realize the healthy lives they were meant to live.

I will include, in the show notes, an article Dr. Reddy penned which outlines the way he used to practice medicine and how that all changed. It’s his whole story in 4 pages. The piece is entitled “I have a carrot and a stent, you pick”. This encompasses Dr. Reddy and his style of medicine so well because with what he knows now, he puts much of the responsibility of the patient’s health back in their hands and helps them realize that the power was always in their hands, and in some cases, gives them a second chance at life.

I can’t say it any better than he can, so lets get right into this weeks conversation, on Episode #51, with Dr. Koushik Reddy.

I’m very grateful for those of you who are listening who are Patrons, those of you have shared the podcast with your friends or on social media, or the 91 of you who have written a positive and honest review on iTunes. It means a lot, it gives me encouragement that I am doing something that has meaning in people’s lives.

This message is for everyone else. I’d love for you to be part of the team, part of this movement. If this podcast has made you smarter, healthier and more informed, or even if it’s helped you avoid or reduce medications or a stent or other procedure, how much is that worth to you?

If I have helped you, would you consider helping me further this message and my work? Never expected, but always appreciated. If you want to see what you can do to help, check out Patreon.com/IanCramerPodcast to find out about how you can help spread this message.

We’ll see you next episode. And until that time, keep eating more plants, stay curious, remain responsible and compassionate ambassadors to this movement and may you live to be 100 years old.

In this weeks episode, we look at lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition from a different lens. We’re looking at what impact our food and lifestyle choices have on the wellbeing of other animals and the world around us. I’ve known about Colleen Patrick-Goudreau for many years and really enjoy her work. She’s a writer, podcaster, author, activist, and creator of impactful content centered around living compassionately. This interview was very enlightening and made me pause and reflect as we were speaking and as I edited this.

Colleen's Website: http://www.colleenpatrickgoudreau.com/

Colleen is a thought leader in this topic, she’s reasonable and you can tell has thought about this subject extensively. We speak about everything from clean meat, to what it means to be a vegan and many philosophical aspects of veganism, compassion and how we can all live in harmony and help the most people, most effectively.

Although Colleen doesn’t define herself by the commonly accepted definition of veganism, she does make this subject very palatable using compassion and non judgement in her mission to spread this message to a wider audience.

I want to share some exciting news in the evolution and growth of this podcast and my work as a whole. In the past month, I applied to a few grants in the hopes that I could purchase new equipment to make new and different and impactful content for you and others wanting to learn more. And lo and behold, I was awarded one of these grants for a significant amount of money. I’m super excited about this…So, pretty soon, you will see or hear me put this new equipment to good use and start to see new content…In a nutshell, I will now be able to have 4-way conversations, professionally recorded and sounding and I will be able to capture these conversations on professional video. I am pumped. There’s more to add to this announcement, but I’ll wait until the end of this episode. I don’t want to hold you up any more than I have to…

So without further delay, I hope you enjoy and learn something from this episode #50, and continue to consume content from the inspiring and thought-provoking Colleen-Patrick Goudreau.

I’d like to extend thank you to a couple new patrons in the last month or so, Julie Olsen and Beth Wonders. Beth is listening way down in Australia, and I’m very glad that she is learning more and spreading this message down there.

As I was saying at the beginning, this new equipment is very exciting and I hope that the new content that I will make will reach a larger audience. But you are also a huge part of that equation. No company or entity spreads a message or promotes a product by themselves. I can’t do this alone. Through word of mouth, sharing content or writing reviews of any content that resonates with you, you are perpetuating this message to those around you. And in whatever form, I appreciate it. So if you’ve been listening to this podcast for some time and find it valuable and want to help spread this message to a wider audience, you can help by supporting my work via Patreon. I don’t use this money to buy bike parts or blow it on a weekend trip to Vegas, it goes towards keeping the metaphorical podcast lights on and it also allows me to create and spread new content to a larger audience by allowing for creating flexibility and additional financial resources.

I will end with a very kind and inspirational quote that was meant for me, but that I wholeheartedly believe applies to you listening at home- this is for you: This person says: “I really love what you're doing to spread the word on plant-based nutrition in a scientific way. Your podcast is a wonderful resource that I've learned a great deal from so far! Keep doing what you're doing, and never underestimate the impact you're having". And to you at home, never underestimate the impact that YOU'RE having.

Dr. Ashwani Garg is a physician in Chicago who, along with podcast guest Dr. Steve Lome, is trying to change the culture and the conversation among the general public and medical profession in his city.

Dr. Garg’s story starts with trying to apply for a life insurance policy. After the realization that he could have benefitted from getting healthier and a simultaneous and coincidental encounter with an impactful movie on health, he set out to change his own diet and lifestyle to positively affect his health.

We spend our time discussing the evidence around eating plant-based, why that’s a better choice than some of the other dietary choices these days, we also spend time on cancer and autoimmune disorders that he sees in the clinic, their origin and their wholistic treatment as well as mindfulness and Buddhism and why and how he integrated that into his life and why he recommends it to others.

I realize many of you who are listening are all over the United States and all over the world, but I still want to let you know about a speaking engagement I will be attending at the end of September. I was invited to speak at Rochester Lifestyle Medicine on September 24, 2018- I’ll post the links in the show notes. But the cool thing is that this will be professionally recorded so I hope that I can post a professional version of my presentation for all to see. And the end goal is that this seed turns into a giant tree, that this lecture turns into many others in the future. And hopefully I can come visit you in your city or country.

If there ever were a guest on my podcast that warrants a part 2 and further discussion into the topics that make people healthier, it would be this weeks guest, Dr. Joel Fuhrman.

Dr. Fuhrman is one of the true pioneers in the modern era of lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition having treated patients, written books and conducted peer reviewed studies for over 30 years.

In our conversation, we speak about his beginnings and what influenced him to practice medicine in this way. We speak about the term “Nutritarian” that he coined to describe the type of food he recommends and how that term differs from vegan and whole foods plant based.

We also talk about why this message of preventing or reversing chronic diseases is being snuffed out or muted, what’s causing heart diseases- Carbohydrates, Fats or neither? And Dr. Fuhrman’s solutions to our Nations health woes if he were surgeon general.

If you visit the individual pages dedicated to each podcast episode on my website, you’ll found helpful links to, in this case, Dr. Fuhrman’s website, books and publications.

I want to end with a personal message. Although making this podcast and spreading this message is something that I love and is something that I wish I could do more of, life isn’t perfect and I have my ups and downs and I am not there yet, I haven’t met my goal yet. When I do feel frustrated or feel as if things aren’t going the way that I want them to, I take a step back and look at the bigger picture, look at the alternative, look at the reasons WHY I am doing this, and always consider myself fortunate.

This applies to becoming healthier as well. Although eating better, living healthier lifestyle habits, learning new recipes and going through some cravings may be a bit of a pain, it may take work and may make you feel negative emotions at times, look at it from a wider lens. Look at it as YOU ARE getting healthier, YOU ARE moving the needle and YOU ARE taking small steps every day. And many small steps lead to big changes over time.

We live in a world that is becoming more reward-centric. If I engage in behavior X, I expect there to be reward Z. And we expect said reward to manifest itself and to be apparent more quickly after we have engaged in the behavior. And usually, that isn’t the case, that isn’t reality. This is especially the case when it comes to entrepreneurship and gaining an audience OR becoming healthier, losing weight or seeing changes in ones body.

To which I say to myself and to you, stay the course, be patient, continue to learn, continue to make mistakes and continue to utilize your resources and continue to get a little bit healthier every day.

I hope you enjoy this conversation on Episode #48 with Dr. Joel Fuhrman.

Dr. Beth Frates is a physician and Director of Wellness Programming at the Spaulding Stroke Research and Recovery Institute at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Frates is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School.

As I was listening to our conversation in post-production, Dr. Frates reminded me of past guest and plant-based rock star Jane Esselstyn with some of her language and mannerisms and inflection and occasional bursts of vocal volume and passion.

Dr. Frates was influenced to practice lifestyle medicine from a very important person in her life, the person or patient she calls “Patient Zero”. This person, a major life-changing event and the effect he had on her caused a life-altering shift in her mindset, her thinking and ultimately her career path.

In our conversation, we speak about Dr. Frates’ interests in stress, the nervous system and its effect on heart health and vascular health. Dr. Frates has also devoted a considerable amount of time educating herself on behavior change and a “Coach Approach”. The emphasis on talking to your patients, not talking at them, being a coach instead of their finger-wagging doctor and enabling them to find the answers to their own concerns, to own their problems themselves by leading a discussion, asking questions, being a good listener and not judging. I sense that this content is very applicable to doctors and medical professionals who listen to this podcast.

In other news, I have a big announcement of the completion of a project that I’ve been working on for many, many months. Not a book or a study, but a course, a webinar, to further your knowledge about plant-=based nutrition and the many reasons why this is the future. It is, to my knowledge, the first ever comprehensive webinar on the implementation of the plant-based diet for endurance athletes. If you’re relatively new to the podcast or to me and my story, I am an endurance and competitive cyclist who just happens to have a radio style announcer voice, who just happens to have a podcast about plant-based nutrition. So, I’ve created this course that details from introduction to implementation, how athletes can implement a plant-based diet into their life. Why would you want to do this? Because it WILL make you a better athlete, no doubt about it. The line baloney that we’ve been fed that you must eat meat and dairy to be healthy humans and strong athletes is simply not true, and I have compiled the evidence and explanations to take you on a step-by-step journey to the end goal of immediately implementing this so that you can start to reap the rewards of this lifestyle for both your short-term athletic success and long-term health. This is somewhat time sensitive as I begin teaching this live and interactive webinar, on August 18, 2018. I have much more information on this course, what’s included and specifics of dates and times of presentation by visiting plant-basedcyclist.com/plantbasedathletics. I’ll also include several links in the show notes to make it easier.

Plant-Based Nutrition for Endurance Athletes

Details on the Webinar itself

I hope you enjoy and learn something from this conversation, on Episode #47 with Dr. Beth Frates.

Dr. Yami is a pediatrician practicing in Yakima, Washington. Speaking to her was refreshing and comforting because raising children, I can imagine, can be a scary thing. Parent’s don’t want to make mistakes, especially when it comes to something that is so modifiable as diet.

On the one hand, we want to do everything we can to get them started off right and make sure they grow up big and strong. But as we talk about, several extremely common health and dietary habits that parents engage in with their children and families convey the opposite. In some ways, we’re setting our kids up for failure, disease and a life of sickness later on.

Dr. Yami grew up consuming copious amounts of animal products because she thought that’s what everyone did and because her families’ roots were firmly entrenched in animal agriculture and producing these products. But, as an adult, she radically changed her views on meat, dairy and animal products in general based on a single book, and the rest is history, and the rest is told in our conversation.

Special Editing Note: I’m sorry about the volume levels in this particular episode.

Please welcome Dr. Jim Loomis, Medical director of the Barnard Medical center in Washington D.C.

Dr. Loomis has quite the life story: Like many quests on the podcast, he stumbled upon the power of plant-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine by accident. Like me, he was influenced after watching the DVD Forks Over Knives.

The Former team internist for the St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Cardinals, he saw first hand what ‘sports nutrition’ was like in pro locker rooms, and we discuss what can be done differently and the real differences between sports nutrition and regular nutrition.

Dr. Loomis is also one of the featured physicians in the film “The Game Changers” which highlights plant-based nutrition as it’s applied to the world of sports.

We end with discussions on the state of our healthcare system and his presentation “Beets and Cleats- Plant-based prescriptions from a pro team doctor.

Let’s say, You want to be a better athlete, and you’ve heard of a PB diet and you’ve seen more and more high profile athletes eating this way, But, you’re unsure about all the hype, you don’t quite understand the science or the mechanisms for why it works, and you’re unsure about implementation of said lifestyle, I created an ebook that may help.

It covers 5 benefits of going plant-based as an athlete and why you will be a better athlete if you adopt a more plant-based lifestyle. How am I so sure? I’ve been plant-based for 8 years, trained and competed in road cycling and even rode my bike across the country, all powered by a plant-based diet. Plus, we have the science on our side….the science says that it works, it explains why it works and that it’s more beneficial to the human body than the standard protein-centric diets of athletes, we hear about and see today.

The eBook is free and you can download it by visiting my website Plant-Based Cyclist.com, or click on this LINK, and on the homepage, scroll down a bit and click on the icon for the book. I hope you find it useful and please, send me some feedback or questions you may have.

Wink-Wink- I’m also creating something very special…something’s that’s taken me the better part of a year to create and fine tune…that will be very useful to those athletes who want to go plant-based but are unsure of how to do it. Picture ‘A comprehensive multi-series course on how athletes can go plant-based’. Stay tuned.

I hope you find this conversation enlightening, on Episode #45 with Dr. Jim Loomis.

I’m so glad I’m able to bring you Dr. Ostfeld. I would say in the lifespan of this podcast, I worked the hardest to book this interview. But that’s not a negative…it paid off and provided a really good conversation.

Dr. Robert Ostfeld is a cardiologist who works at Montefiore Health System in the Bronx in New York City. After reading the China Study and learning of the work of his colleague Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, He saw a need to create a similar cardiac wellness center in NYC where there was a larger population and a greater need for a system like this to exist. He created The Cardiac Wellness Program at Montefiore.

They bring a unique, nutrition-centered approach to the management of cardiovascular disease. The program aims to prevent and reverse heart disease with a whole food/plant-based diet. Dr. Ostfeld and his Dietician and co-founder Lauren Graf work with patients to embrace a diet that includes no animal products and consists of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, legumes, a small amount of nuts and avocado, as well as dairy alternatives.

In Our conversation, because there’s so much nutritional controversy about what we should and should not eat, we speak about whether we really know the cause of heart disease, which is the #1 cause of mortality in this country.

Additionally, Dr. Ostfeld’s position on blood cholesterol, Cardiovascular disease myths and regression of atherosclerotic plaques. He also addresses an existing list of top 10 foods to keep your arteries clean and tells us what does the science say about these specific food or food groups.

Friendly reminder, I post lots of additional content on my Plant-Based Cyclist Facebook page and we also have regular Facebook Life sessions every other Tuesday at 9AM which you are invited to attend. We speak about how to become healthier I answer any questions you have about wellness, diet and lifestyle changes and always bring a few lessons with me to teach to the group.

I hope you enjoy this conversation, on Episode #44 with Dr. Robert Ostfeld.

We first talk about how we met and her connection to Jane Esselstyn. Then we get into the nitty gritty of her research on childhood obesity and how it can be applied to adults and our everyday health.

She teaches a really interesting class called “Obesity in Society” that we discuss, as well as plant-based nutrition and trying to get college students on board with this message.

Let’s keep the intro short and sweet and get to this in-person conversation on Episode #43 with Dr. Brooke Starkoff.

Hey everyone, I am Ian Cramer and thank you for listening to my podcast…the podcast that’s dedicated to making you healthier by interviewing doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition.

I hope that you come away from each of these episodes learning something about how diet and lifestyle can affect different areas of health.

I had this conversation with Jane Esselstyn before she was about to speak to a large group of college students at SUNY Brockport, a local college here in the Rochester Area.

We talk about projects she’s working on, including a new YouTube channel that she’s spearheading with her Mom, Ann. We also touch on her personal positions on ketogenic dieting, genetics and its role on disease as well as trends within the plant-based movement. If anyone has a sense of the ‘pulse’ of the plant-based movement, it’s Jane. She is part Energizer Bunny and part rockstar, her personality is infectious which makes the message she conveys that much more impactful.

Jane is known for her talks on health above and below the belt, which if you knew how Jane started, isn’t surprising. One of Her first gigs was teaching sex education, so it’s not surprising that she melded plant-based nutrition with topics having to do with sexual health. Her talk provides an interesting angle and further reinforces the beneficial impacts of eating a whole foods plant-based diet.

They reached out from Whales and Denis, who is 82 years old, plant-based and feeling fit wrote to me “I write to thank you and your colleagues. Please be sure that the information is reaching people far beyond the USA. Even here on the remote West Coast of the UK.”

I just became a donor of a radio program that I listen to all the time, and it felt really good. Why did I do it? Because I value the content it puts out. I listen to it all the time and I can say that day to day, it helps me, I know that the content that they produce makes me a better person, helps me understand more of the world around me. From a young age, Dr. Ron Weiss was encouraged by his parents to become a doctor. Later in life, it was an event involving his father and a bout of Pancreatic cancer that piqued Dr. Weiss’s curiosity about the healing power of plants. This, in part, lead to the development of his current brain child, Ethos Health.

As I was digging into the background of Dr. Weiss, I saw little bits of myself in him and his story. He’s multifaceted, and we uncover interests in botany, piano performance and film. Dr. Weiss has never been afraid to pursue his interests or dreams, and that includes his acquisition of a working farm of over 300 acres in Long Valley, New Jersey.

Listening to his story, one is able to connect the dots in a rather intuitive way that makes sense of where he is now and what he’s doing. The realization of the power of plants, the healing capabilities of the human body and the way he communicates and relates to his patients all stem from life events and experiences that make him who he is today.

So if you’re new to the podcast, welcome. You can expect in depth and informational conversation every other week. Again, thank you for your support.

I hope you find this conversation beneficial, on episode #41, with Dr. Ron Weiss.

I’m 40 episodes into this podcast over the course of about 16 months, and I’m still learning a lot about lifestyle medicine and about podcasting in general. One of the things that I’ve come to realize is I feel that all of my podcasts are ‘good’...in that, if someone listens, they can come away from a particular episode saying “I learned a few things” or “That was beneficial”. But sometimes, there are episodes where I listen to them in post production and I go “That was great”!! It just flows, this is one of those episodes!

Dr. Steve Lome is a cardiologist in Chigaco, Illinois who practices within the Rush University medical system, the same as Dr. Kim Williams who was on Episode 13.

This episode is particularly powerful because Steve’s story encompasses the professional and personal. If you’re interested, Forks Over Knives did a piece on him and his story that I will include in the show notes. Here is is---> https://www.forksoverknives.com/watching-forks-over-knives-changed-this-doctors-life-and-career/#gs.kx010ZY

He’s able to connect with people who have struggled with their weight or their health, because he struggled with his weight and health. He is also able to connect with medical professionals who are struggling with treating their patients, struggling with reversing their patients’ diseases because he too struggled with addressing the root cause of why his patients were so sick and why his treatments didn’t really seem to do a whole lot.

Steve’s funny, well spoken, he gets it! He gets how powerful this message is. Even though he’s an MD, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, he’s able to joke around. And I feel that this along with his epiphany of plant-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine, brought about by watching the move Forks Over Knives, enables him to connect with his patients and other medical professionals on a unique level.

Steve is active on twitter and you can find him @SteveLome.

In this episode, I’m speaking with Dr. Colin Zhu, known as The Chef Doc. Dr. Zhu is a family practice D.O who is a traveling doctor which I had never really heard of before I met him. A personal passion of his is he loves to travel and has a lot of unique stories and pearls that will get the wheels turning. He also has a passion for cooking, hence The Chef Doc, and is also skilled at connecting with people with his energetic and open personality. All of these skills and passions makes him a shining example of what a doctor should be and how a doctor should practice medicine and makes him a valuable asset to the lifestyle medicine movement.

Colin has worked in many settings, in many locations with an array of patients that has given him a perspective to more effectively connect with people in order to find what makes them tick. From listening to this interview for a second time in post-production, one of the things that came to mind is Dr. Zhu is wise beyond his years, and I think a big reason why is his experiences. It reminds me of the proverb “Walking 1000 miles is better than reading a 1000 books.

If you’re listening and you’re an endurance athlete or really an athlete of any kind, I created a free eBook that highlights the reasons to adopt a plant-based lifestyle as an athlete, marketed to athletes. We often think of athletes needing more than the average lay-person, and that’s true. And meat and animal products are often synonymous with athleticism. We can get everything we need from plants and I argue that we would be better athletes by adopting a more plant-centered diet. So, if you’d like to get that free eBook, the easiest way is to look in the show notes of this episode either on my website, plant-based cyclist.com or on iTunes or Libsyn and click on the Free eBook link to get it. If you have any friends out there who are struggling with their nutrition, struggling with their weight, with energy, with recovery or who may have a family history of a chronic disease, feel free to point them in the direction of this eBook as well.

Free eBook Link-CLICK HERE.

I will also be sending out regular e-mails to those who are passionate about plant-based nutrition and who may have a particular interest in how they, as athletes can integrate this into their lifestyle. You can sign up for those regular e-mails through my website on THE homepage.

There are many ways you can support the podcast. I’ve highlighted writing a review on iTunes, or supporting the podcast directory through Patreon, but the most grassroots and simplest way to help is spread the word via social media or word of mouth. If an episode resonates with you, share it with others. Thank you very much, and look forward to another episode in 2 weeks.

In this episode, we’re taking a step-back from our usual conversations with medical doctors talking about a particular body system or chronic diseases to speak to Dr. Melanie Joy, PhD.

Dr. Joy is a Psychologist and the founding president for “Beyond Carnism”. Its mission is to expose and transform carnism, the invisible belief system that conditions people to eat certain animals.

Pulled off of their website “At Beyond Carnism, we believe that people need and deserve to know the truth about carnism, so they can make their food choices freely — because without awareness, there is no free choice. Beyond Carnism seeks to empower concerned citizens and vegan advocates through education and activism, to help create a more compassionate and just world for all beings, human and nonhuman alike.”

I hope all of my episodes make you think, but especially this one. I realize this is not a topic that you usually hear about on this podcast but I feel that it plays an integral part to ones greater understanding and appreciation of our role in the world. As you’ll hear, Dr. Joy speaks about how this invisible belief system called Carnism affects us and many other aspects of our lives without us even knowing about it or being conscious of it. Hopefully, this conversation at least raises ones consciousness of its existence so that this new consciousness may spark behavior change for the better.

Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or Dr. B, is a Gastroenterologist practicing in Mount Pleasant, SC. What an ally he is to this movement, what an asset. He’s young, well spoken and knows his stuff. In 36 episodes and over 8 years of being plant-based, I learned the most new information from this episode.

Being a Gastroenterologist, we speak a lot about the gut microbiome, regulating digestion, immune function, pre and probiotics as well as one of Dr. B’s favorite topics, fermented foods.

We also tackle various GI disorders like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Ulcerative Cholitis, Crohn's, Fatty Liver Disease and Gallbladder disorders and digestive cancers.

Hi, I’m Ian Cramer and I’m the guy who makes these podcasts. Why do I do it? Because the information is life-changing. Why do I interview only doctors and scholars? I enjoy learning, I like evidence, I’m inquisitive, I appreciate people who are smarter than me and I enjoy helping others. We all have something to learn from one another, and in this podcast, I curate and compile these conversations on plant-based and lifestyle medicine to hopefully inspire you to get healthier in some way.

I’m a big picture kind of guy…and recently I was thinking about the larger implications of this podcast. Beyond ‘people getting healthier’ I hope this podcast motivates you to starts conversations, makes you more apt to ask questions and think critically with the end goal of “Being Better” in whatever you’re passionate or interested in.

In Episode 35, I’m speaking with Dr. Stephan Esser, a non-operative orthopedic physician practicing in Point Vedra Beach, Florida, just outside of Jacksonville.

Dr. Esser certainly has this plant-based nutrition in his blood, as his great grandfather and grandfather were some of the first pioneers teaching people about how they could live healthier lives and heal their bodies from the inside out with diet and lifestyle changes.

Although one may assume that Dr. Esser is in the wrong field or subspecialty, he uses his orthopedic office to identify patients who may see a benefit from diet and lifestyle. He says no matter what kind of physician you are, we all, to some degree, see the side-effects of poor diet, lifestyle and chronic disease.

In our 1-hour conversation, we speak about 3 main topics. Sports performance and plant based nutrition, transitioning to a PB diet and myths and misconceptions about plant-based lifestyles.

I get particularly excited when a doctor refers another doctor and says “This guys good”, which is exactly what happened here, so I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did, on Episode 35 with Dr. Stephan Esser.

I’m very excited to welcome a new patron family and newest members to the board of directors, Erik and Mollie Walnum from the great state of Montana. I’ve known Erik for a period of time through Instagram. He and his wife are passionately plant-based and are trying to encourage change. And their starting with their local school, trying to make lunches healthier and teach kids what it means to eat and live a healthy life. Big thank you to Erik and Mollie for your support, I really appreciate it.

Until next episode, which if you didn’t realize comes out every other Saturday, Keep eating more plants, continue to be respectful ambassadors for this lifestyle, and stay healthy.

Hey everyone, my name is Ian Cramer and I make this podcast where I have conversations with just the experts, either the people who prescribe WFPB nutrition to their patients, or who do research in this field and who can, hopefully, help you become healthier and inspire you to implement beneficial, evidence-based lifestyle habits into your daily routine.

In Ep. 34, I really enjoyed Dr. Shivam Joshi and I think he really enjoyed his time speaking with me. Dr. Joshi is a Renal Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. Very recently, Dr. Joshi popped up on my radar after an article he wrote for Forks Over Knives caught my eye. I read it, saw who wrote it and knew that I had to reach out to this guy. With articles about sugar, diabetes, whole food plant-based nutrition and the paleo diet, this guys speaking my language.

So, spring-boarding off of what he wrote about and what he’s passionate about, we spoke at length about the Paleo Diet, Diabetes in Migrant populations and about his medical subspecialty of nephrology and how our kidney health can be directly affected by diet, lifestyle and the side effects of chronic diseases.

I can see Dr. Joshi becoming a fan favorite. He’s young, has a sense of humor, well spoken, down to earth and relatable. I hope you enjoy Ep. 34 with Dr. Shivam Joshi.

In this episode, I’m speaking with Ellen Jaffe Jones- Runner, Author, former news reporter, formerly in the finance sector. After reading a couple of her books and hearing her story, her talents are certainly multifaceted which, in my opinion, is how she’s been so effective at getting her vegan, plant-based message across.

Very Early in life, she witnessed the slow, traumatic degradation of the closest members of her family. Later in life, she would realize that what her family members suffered from was caused by diet and lifestyle. But, curiously, she was determined at a very young age that she was going to avoid those diseases that ravaged her family. Call it instinct, call it blind intuition. She was right. And despite a health scare in her middle 20’s that almost killed her, today she is as fit as a fiddle, continuing to run and place locally, regionally and nationally in running competitions. And she continues to be a passionate advocate for this lifestyle and only wants to help people realize their true health potential.

Ellen with her decades of experience offers unique perspectives and philosophies that I know will get the wheels turning and offer additional ammunition to listeners who want to learn more.

I hope you enjoy and learn something from our conversation, on ep. 33 with Ellen Jaffe Jones.

To close, I’d like to send out a few thank yous: Lasona Finley, Kerrin Ehrensbeck, Michele Olender and Eryn Matich. They are the most recent patrons of this podcast. And a very special thank you to L.W for a sizable donation received through Paypal.

The people I just named value this message; these episodes add quality to their lives and to them, the work I’m doing is worth $1, $5, even $20 an episode for some people. Is it worth something to you?

Happy New Year everyone! If you or someone you know has had a diagnosis of Multiple sclerosis or any autoimmune disorder, this is the episode for you.

It took my wife and I a plane, 3 trains and an Uber to get to Dr. Stancic in Ramsay, NJ, but we made it. Dr. Stancic is so great, not only was our conversation fantastic, but she was kind enough to move a patient on her schedule just so we could fit in this interview.

The Ian Cramer Podcast is 1 year old and I will continue to bring you conversations with doctors and scholars to make the world a better, healthier place. We've averaged about 1000 listens per episode. Which is great for the first year. We have 15 proud patrons of the podcast, and they deserve a special thank you. And so if I’m doing my math right, that’s 1.5% of my listener base.

As I've said in the past, this podcast is free and always will be because I feel that this information is too important to withhold from people. But I'd like you all to be aware that for the end listener, it's free, but behind the scenes in reality, it's not. There are many expenses associated with the making and production of the podcast. In the spirit of transparency and greater understanding, allow me to explain.

I have a full time job and this podcast is a passionate side hustle. At this point, 100% of what I earn from patron contributions is recycled back into the podcast. So Ian, what do you spend the money on? Good question.

  1. First are podcast website hosting fees.
  2. I advertise the podcast to get the episodes in front of more eye-balls or in front of more ears, which costs money.
  3. I'm also constantly trying to upgrade my equipment to make the production quality better, which costs money.
  4. I pay for the software that I use for my Facebook Live sessions and Ask the Doc sessions.
  5. Not to mention the time, reading, research and prep that goes into each podcast.

Now, if at this point, you're rolling your eyes, I promise to only make this type of extended soap box speech once per year, but I want you to understand that if you’re listening to these podcasts, you are a part of this community! And you can play a role in supporting me and my work to progress this message to change the world around us for the better. If you've been listening to this podcast for a period of time and if they add value to your life, if they're educational, or have made you healthier or if you've implemented something into your lifestyle that you've heard from this podcast, ...consider how much that's worth to you and consider supporting the podcast. This is just a friendly reminder, not a order…this is not an ultimatum.

On the flip side, there are conditions in which you should not donate. #1- If you don't enjoy it. In which case I would ask you 'Why are you still listening' and #2: If donating would involve making material sacrifices. You must put yourself and your family first.

With your support, I’m able to spend more time creating and spreading meaningful content that can positively impact people’s lives. Will you help me and those around you become healthier? Become a part of my creative community, join me on Patreon and lets make the world a healthier place

In this Episode I have a conversation with Howard Jacobson. Health Coach, Author and Podcaster. Howard has been spreading this message since 2003. His journey as been as much about himself as it has been about helping other as he learns from the people he speaks to, the literature he reads and books that he co-authors.

We break down his story and the spark that lead him to being such a passionate advocate of this lifestyle, What healthcare will look like in the future. Howard being a co-author of some very prominent and ‘bed-rock books within this movement, books that I consider to be part of the very bedrock of this lifestyle and ‘must reads’, As well as research, reductionism and wholeism and what it means for our health and the future of medicine.

In this episode, we take a step away from our usual conversations with doctors or medical professionals to speak to an expert with a different focus that presents new and refreshing arguments to adopting plant-based lifestyle.

David Simon is a lawyer, by profession, and author of the book “Meatanomics: How the Rigged Economics of Meat and Dairy make you consume too much.

With this book, he adds a unique breath and depth of knowledge to the ever growing argument in favor of a whole foods, plant-based lifestyle with financial and economic reasons to push away from animal foods in favor of more plants.

In our conversation, some of the topics we cover include check-off programs, government subsidies, and externalized costs. The information he brings to the table presents a muddled and disturbing picture of the relationship between big government, big industry and the American Citizen.

I know you will learn something from this conversation on Episode 30, with David Simon.

On this episode, I speak with pediatrician Dr. Paul Porras, who works in Washington D.C. Like Episode 28, this conversation was also a very highly asked for topic. You may recognize his name or his accent as he was featured in the movie “What the Health.

People are, understandably, concerned with the health of their children. So I’m very glad that I can share this with you from a practicing pediatrician on how to you integrate a plant-based lifestyle with your child.

We speak a lot about dairy milk and why he doesn’t recommend this to his patients. And we also speak about milk alternatives, special nutritional considerations pertaining to raising a child without animal products.

In one of the most requested episodes to date, I have a conversation with Dr. Bingham who is practicing in Middletown, Connecticut. Anne has a very unique connection to this movement having married into a family that has done phenomenal work in progressing this message of lifestyle medicine. And the hint is: this family or rather this doctor is also on the podcast.

Like Dr. Bingham has said many time, Obstetrics and Gynecology is not necessarily the first choice people think of for diet and lifestyle advice. But, she says the body of evidence is only growing and many of the overarching recommendations applied in more traditional lifestyle related specialties like cardiology and endocrinology can also be applied to OBGYN and female, maternal and infant health.

Some of the topics we cover include gestational diabetes and hypertension, infertility, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, Endometriosis, Miscarriages and Raising children on a WFPB lifestyle. I then challenge Dr. Bingham to sell this growing field to a group of her peers and colleagues as well as address larger issues to solve our health crisis if she had all the power in the world.

I’d like to thank our newest patrons, John Davis and Killian Burns. John is an active member and contributor to the Plant-based Cyclist Facebook page and Killian Burns was a classmate in Undergrad. Dr. Anthony Lim is a physician who, at the time of this episode publishing in early November of 2017, has recently made a surprising and impressive entrance onto the national stage within the Lifestyle medicine WFPB movement. You may recognize his name or his voice as he was featured in a recent viral YouTube movie published by Plant-Based News that highlighted his journey being a passionate advocate of a Paleo lifestyle to now being a convert to a whole foods, plant-based lifestyle.

In our conversation we speak about:

  1. why the Paleo diet was attractive to him at first.
  2. Why, in his years of medical education, he never heard about a whole foods plant-based lifestyle and the power it has to prevent and reverse chronic diseases.
  3. What gives Dr. Lim’s solace in knowing this is truly the right thing to do and the right way to eat.
  4. In his experience, what does the Paleo diet get right and what does the Paleo diet get wrong?
  5. The importance of understanding Carbohydrates and caloric density.
  6. Other factors or arguments in favor of a whole foods plant-based lifestyle.
  7. And counter-arguments to questions kindly submitted directly from passionate members of Paleo Facebook group.

I’d like to highlight another project that I am working on that may benefit you. I am coordinating with Lifestyle Medicine doctors to join me on a series entitled “Ask the Doc”. These sessions which are conducted on Facebook Live and can be found on my Plant-Based Cyclist Facebook page and are opportunities for you to speak directly to these doctors. These sessions are your opportunity to ask experienced lifestyle medicine doctors your health and wellness questions and get answers in real time. The way to find out about these live sessions is simply LIKE the PBC Facebook page and keep an eye out for announcements of when the next session is. Generally, we’ve done them on Sunday mornings, and I’m trying to have them about every other week.

In my book, the top 5 most influential doctors in this lifestyle medicine movement of all time, Dr. Esselstyn has a way of connecting with people that makes the information he spreads more palatable, even if that information isn’t exactly what people want to hear. No oil, no meat, no dairy…Some would call what he is recommending as ‘extreme’…but when you’ve shown in multiple peer reviewed studies that his dietary and lifestyle interventions halt and reverse the ravages of the #1 killer of men and women in this country, the argument of ‘extreme’ no longer applies. Especially when the status quo of treating that #1 killer is opening up someone’s chest and stitching a vein from the patients leg onto their heart. That treatment is expensive, dangerous AND ironically, doesn’t treat the underlying cause of the problem and is just a really expensive ‘band-aid’. I’ll take plants over procedures.

Dr. Ben Benulis is a Chiropractor working out of Berkley, California.

Ben’s story is interesting because he switched from one career to another that, on the outside seem unrelated. He also went through a health scare that many people can relate to. And now, he changed his diet, he’s feeling great and he’s following his inner compass and doing what he’s truly passionate about.

He and I speak about starches vs. fruits, more controversy about the documentary What the Health, as well as what our primary focus should be when getting healthier.

As passionate as his brother Thomas and his Father T. Colin Campbell, Nelson Campbell has carved out a specialty within Plant-based nutrition through educating individuals at the grassroots level. In the Movie PlantPure Nation, he chronicles his attempt in trying to pass legislation in the state of Kentucky to help people become healthier. He and his wife Kim are also known to implement short plant-based interventions within communities or companies to show people the power of plant-based nutrition. Nelson presents a diplomatic and mature attitude with his work and a focus on the long-term picture. Like health, he realizes this societal and political struggle with policies affecting our health will take time to change. And I’m thankful that he is in it for the long haul.

I’d like to thank Teresa Kopel as the newest patron of the Podcast and announce a new ranking milestone. Let me preface this by saying that the ranking for this and all podcasts do change on a daily basis, this podcast was ranked 36 out of thousands of podcasts on this particular hosting site. This is your fault, guys! I love it, and you must love it too. It brings me great satisfaction to see these numbers but also knowing that people are enjoying and hopefully learning something from the content. I hope you enjoy our conversation, on Episode 23 with Nelson Campbell.

Dr. Alan Goldhamer is the founder of True North Health Centers in Santa Rosa California. He’s a chiropractor who’s been successfully implementing lifestyle medicine to his patient for over 30 years. He, along with Episode #19’s Dr. Michael Klaper and many more health professionals treat the sickest of the sick, the ones who don’t respond to moderate lifestyle changes. He is the last resort, his facility is Health’s “True North”, health’s northern star. And you know what, it works.

You might know Dr. Goldhamer from his appearance in the Netflix documentary What the Health, and we speak about the controversy involving some of his patients featured in the film. In essence, people claimed that his patients were paid actors, and he responds. Topics that we cover include his background and how he became interested in health, wellness and water fasting, an explanation of the ‘extreme’ nature of water fasting, cravings, The Pleasure Trap, and we also speak about the Chiropractic profession in general. He and Dr. Doug Lisle are the authors of The Pleasure Trap, which explains the hidden forces that undermine health and happiness.

In the past week, I put in a lot of work revising my website to make it more user friendly and provide more content for the end user. I mainly updated the podcast sub-heading and have dedicated an entire page to each podcast that I publish. Each page now include a large headshot at the top, an embedded audio player of that episode, along with the 8 or so infographics I produce and publish on social media for each speaker, as well as a blurb on each guest and easy ways to share each episode on social media. You can check that out at plant-basedcyclist.com/podcast. I appreciate your feedback, and I hope it makes it easier for you to consume the content and get healthier. I hope you enjoy and learn something from this conversation, episode #22 with Dr. Alan Goldhamer. If you find these conversations valuable, there are many ways you can support this podcast. Dr. Pam Popper is a naturopath, an internationally recognized expert on nutrition, medicine and health, and the Executive Director of Wellness Forum Health. She has been featured on many well known nutrition documentaries like Forks Over Knives, Processed People and Making a Killing. She’s also the author of Food Over Medicine and Solving America’s Healthcare Crisis.

In our conversation, we go into various topics like health habits people are engaging in that they think are healthy but really aren’t, We speak about Bob Harper, famous personal trainer of The Biggest Loser and his near fatal heart attack back in February 2017, we speak about conflicts of interest within HUGE government agencies and medical associations and organizations. We also get a laugh out of Pam’s razor-thin escape from serving jail time. It’s a crazy, interesting and somewhat depressing story of how people and organizations can be really nasty.

As with any episode of the podcast, I hope you enjoy our conversation in Episode 21 and share it on your favorite social media platform. That is Registered Dietician Andy Bellatti, and this is the Podcast that’s dedicated to making you healthier by interviewing medical doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. This is Episode #20 of the Ian Cramer Podcast. I’d like to welcome those of you who are new to this podcast and those of you who are seasoned listeners. I appreciate you listening and taking the time out of your day to learn about becoming healthier.

This week, I have a conversation with Andy Bellatti. I’ve known about Andy for several years from social media and immediately liked him. He tells it like it is and isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers. From the content that he puts out, one notices that he thinks critically and has a backbone. As you’ll hear in the interview, he isn’t afraid to stand up against unjust and arguably corrupt practices, even if those practices are happening within the very organization that represents him. This episode is brought to you by the patrons of this podcast and my passion for spreading factual, evidence based information for you to live a long, disease free life.

Dr. Michael Klaper is a legend in the whole-foods, lifestyle medicine community. He’s a general practitioner who has been treating patients for over 30 years. But not all of that time was spent prescribing lifestyle medicine. Early in his career, he employed the traditional methods he was taught in medical school to treat chronic diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease. But he felt frustrated that his patients weren’t getting better. No matter what modern treatment or prescription he recommended, they continued to come back sicker than when they had left him.

To make the long story short, Dr. Klaper saw the light, or rather as you will hear in the interview, saw the chicken fat. He did some critical thinking, realized what was happening and recognized not only the etiology of these chronic diseases, but the power inherent in lifestyle medicine. Since that point, Dr. Klaper has successfully treated thousands of patients and reversed their chronic diseases. In our conversation he makes it sound so simple, because it is. Health is a choice, and he explains that what we eat every day makes a profound impact on our health.

Dr. Klaper speaks with the spark and vigor of a teenager along with the eloquence of a seasoned scholar which made this conversation particularly enjoyable for me. I hope you find it equally as beneficial and pleasant. He is one of the most thoughtful doctors I have interviewed. In our e-mail correspondence setting up the interview date and time, he and I wrote at some length about our families, our hobbies his appearance in the movie “What the Health” and even our recent weddings. Because of that exchange, Dr. Klaper has earned a special place in my heart and in the history of the podcast.

In Episode 18, I speak with Dr. Milton Mills, who is a critical care physician in Washington D.C. You may recognize his name as he was recently featured on the health documentary "What The Health" which as of June 2017, is on Netflix. What a great film! Incredibly eye opening. It will broaden your horizons and make you think differently about the health care system in this country.

We speak mainly about 2 topics: the evolutionary reasons why we should eat plant based and racial bias affecting nutritional policies in the US. Both of which I knew very little about, which made this interview very interesting and enlightening. One house keeping item to take care of this week: I'd like to extend a big thank you to Kendra Walling. She’s the newest Patron of the podcast and is a huge supporter the PBC Facebook page, too. She enjoys the podcasts coming out every other week and I appreciate your support, Kendra. If you’re curious at all about directly contributing to the podcast, check out the patreon page or send me an e-mail, which is in the show notes below.

As of late June 2017, I have many interviews coming up. You're welcome to submit questions. Watch for the “Ask the Doc” graphics on the Facebook page OR Patreon pages. (Links below) I hope you enjoy our conversation, Episode #18 with Dr. Milton Mills.

Dr. Heather Shenkman is an interventional cardiologist practicing in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Shenkman was exposed to vegetarianism early on via her brother and soon followed in his footsteps. But as time went on, she learned that what she was doing still wasn’t the best lifestyle she could be living. As a doctor who truly practices what she preaches and who is doing as much as she possibly can for her patients and their wellbeing, Dr. Shenkman in our conversation was able to succinctly put her finger on many reasons why more doctors aren’t prescribing lifestyle medicine. Her answers made me shake my head in disbelief, but , like she said the medical establishment is trending in the right direction and we are seeing progress.

Our conversation goes in several directions: her specialty as a cardiologist, her diet, her views and philosophies on certain myths and misconceptions and her experience as a plant-based triathlete and how she is able to train and compete on a 100% vegan lifestyle without negatively affecting her fitness or recovery. I hope you enjoy and learn something from our conversation on Episode #17 with Dr. Healther Shenkman.

Every other Saturday, pressing the publish button makes me feel especially good, and today is no different. I am honored to bring you my conversation with a Forks Over Knives featured physician, Urologist, Dr. Terry Mason.

At this point, you may be asking yourself “What does a Urologist have to do with Lifestyle medicine, or making me healthier”? Good question. Dr. Mason understands the relationships of functions and diseases in the human body. He says, “What I’ve come to believe is that we don’t have a bunch of different diseases. We have different manifestations of one disease.”. As a former practicing Urologist, Dr. Mason is a global authority on erectile dysfunction research, but he’s also a champion of educating about diet and emphasizing the power of diet and lifestyle choices on the progression and manifestation of chronic disease. YES! erectile dysfunction is a manifestation of a chronic disease. Please stay tuned. Man or woman, young or old, I PROMISE, you will learn something from this episode and come away with at least one more tool to add to your ‘health’ tool box.

Before the podcast begins, I am accepting suggestions from listeners like you, regarding who you'd like to hear on future episodes of the podcast. I’m very excited to bring you my interview with Dr. Brooke Goldner. This has been one of my favorite interviews to date because of Dr. Goldner's enthusiasm, her confidence and the hope that she exudes through the following personal and professional health-related experiences. If you or someone you know has a chronic disease or an autoimmune disorder, this is the podcast for you!

As you listen to Dr. Goldner, you will soon realize this isn’t her first rodeo. She’s successfully treated countless patients and educated many medical professionals on the subject of preventing and reversing chronic diseases with diet and lifestyle changes. She has the science squarely behind her yet is able to articulate her knowledge in language for the lay person. Dr. Goldner is the author of Goodbye Lupus, a first person account of her struggle with and ultimate victory over an autoimmune disorder that consumed her for more than 10 years of her life. But, she was able to maintain a laser-like focus on her long-term goal of becoming a doctor. Helped by a loving, supportive family and, after marriage, by her husband, Dr. Goldner conquered this disorder, went on to have 2 children, which doctors said would never happen, and is now educating and helping others become healthier.

A couple of house keeping items this week. I’d like to extend a big thank you to our newest patron, Jesse Cramer. If that name sounds familiar to you, it's familiar to me too! Like other supportive patrons, Jesse saw the value and long-term vision of this podcast as something he wanted to invest in. If donating to the creative tip jar of Patreon isn’t in the cards for you at this point, not a big deal. Other ways you can support the podcast are sharing it with your social media networks OR writing a review of the Podcast at the iTunes Store. I haven’t mentioned reviews before, but your feedback is invaluable in helping me make the podcasts even better and spreading the podcast to a wider audience. And as always, if you have questions, comments or concerns about the podcast or patreon, please ask. I hope you enjoy and learn something from this conversation. Episode #15 with Dr. Brooke Goldner.

Dr. John McDougall is a pioneer in the lifestyle and preventative medicine movement having successfully treated his patients this way for nearly 50 years. If you like hearing someone in a position of authority who doesn’t mince words, this is the interview for you. Dr. McDougall made me laugh many times during our talk because he was so candid and truthful and spoke with such passion. In the realm of health and nutrition, if you’ve ever had questions about protein, carbs, fats, paleo, low carb, high carb or potatoes, Dr. McDougall presents what he has learned and experienced on these topics including what the body of evidence says.

But Dr. McDougall wasn’t always this outspoken and confident about what he did. Very early in his career, he couldn’t get his patients with chronic diseases to get well, and thought he was a bad doctor. He did everything he was taught in medical school and nothing was working. It took another 3 years of education in internal medicine and a realization of what the root causes of these chronic diseases were to finally make his patients better and pave the way for the rest of his long and successful career.

I’d like to plug my Facebook page, Plant-Based Cyclist, as another resource for you to use to get healthier. I post about the foods I’m eating, as well as additional podcast content, 2-3 minute preview videos of upcoming podcasts and information on cycling and fueling your body with a plant-centered diet. As a heads up, at a few points in this interview, the sound quality is a bit poor and I apologize about that. I hope it’s possible to, one day, interview every doctor and scholar in person to make the content more personal and the audio quality crystal clear for your listening pleasure. I hope you enjoy and learn something from this podcast, Episode #14 with Dr. John McDougall.

Before we begin today's interview, I have one housekeeping item to take care of this week. I recently received an extremely generous donation to the Patreon account of this podcast. As a testament to the power of social media, I extend a big Thank You to Julian from South Korea who became the newest patron and the first member of the Board of Directors for the Ian Cramer Podcast. Why does he choose to be a patron? Because he sees the value of these podcasts. He recognizes the work that goes into them and the enjoyment and value they provide to his life, and he wants to chip in to affirm that message. These podcasts are free and always will be, but I appreciate any donation you care to make to demonstrate your support. Check out Patreon.com/IanCramerPodcast for more information. Thank you!

Dr. Kim Williams is the chief cardiologist in the Division of Cardiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He’s also a professor of heart research within Rush University’s medical school. Dr. Williams has treated thousands of heart patients, the vast majority of whom suffered chronic, preventable conditions. Over the course of his stellar career, he realized that much of what he was doing was mitigating symptoms. The standard treatments he was prescribing helped but he wasn’t getting to the root causes. Over time he re-considered many questions: why did so many of his patients need these medications? Why did they suffer heart attacks in the first place? And were stents or bypass surgery their only recourse? When he realized his own LDL cholesterol was creeping up, Dr. Williams made important dietary changes based on what he knew about diet and its effects on cholesterol and he saw nearly a 50% decrease in his LDL number. He said “Wait a minute, if changing my diet can lower my high cholesterol by 50% and lower my risk of chronic diseases, why am I not prescribing this to my patients? It's this powerful shift in his thinking -- from treating illness to fostering wellness -- that we focus on today.

Receiving one of the highest honors for a cardiologist in the world, he was elected by his peers to serve as President of the American College of Cardiology in 2015. Trust me, he’s not trying to ruffle any feathers, but as a seasoned cardiologist who is now prescribing lifestyle medicine and dietary changes to his patients, his methods are certainly viewed as unorthodox and going against the grain within the current medical paradigm. But as you will hear in the podcast, we talk about how these recommendations are firmly based in peer-reviewed research. What's more, they’re evidence based treatments shown to prevent or reverse chronic diseases of the heart and, finally....they work better and are safer than surgeries or prescriptions. I hope you enjoy our conversation, Episode #13 with Dr. Kim Williams.

Today, I'm really excited to bring you my conversation with registered nurse, Sarah Goodenough because her story is nothing short of amazing. With her education and experience in the medical field, as well as her personal journey, she offers an relatable perspective and authentic inspiration to motivate others looking to become healthier. Originally from Rochester, NY, Sarah speaks to me about her life growing up, her college years and what physical and emotional factors led to her health decline, her 125-pound weight loss and journey back to living a healthy, vibrant lifestyle. I had a lot of fun with this podcast because Sarah is my age, she’s not as intimidating as a doctor and it was an in person interview. She is very outgoing and carried on a conversation that I found engaging because it was enjoyable, as well as insightful. If you want to hear someone who is genuine, kind, motivational, thoughtful and spunky, this is the episode for you. Learn how she and her business partner turned an experiment and health success story into a business that helps people get healthier.

It gives me great pleasure to bring you an interview with Dr. T. Colin Campbell, PhD. Professor Emeritus at Cornell University, Dr. Campbell held the highest position within the Department of Nutrition Studies. He also taught and conducted research at Virginia Tech as well as MIT. With a background in toxicology, biochemistry and nutrition, he has conducted many studies on the interaction of various nutrients in the body, namely protein, and how those nutrients contribute to health or play a role in diseases. His crowning achievement, The China Study, was hailed by the New York Times as the “most comprehensive large study ever undertaken of the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease” .

We mention many times in this interview that he has no conflicts of interest and that his research has not been Influenced by any industry. Dr. Campbell followed where the research led him and never stopped asking questions. He also followed his heart, conducting his studies free of bias, in an effort to do the greatest amount of good for the public. I’ve known of Dr. Campbell’s story ever since I watched Forks Over Knives in 2011 and what strikes me, as a rarity in this world, is the fact that he could change his position on topics 180 degrees based on evidence. In today's podcast we speak about the evolution of his studies. As a young researcher, he had preconceived notions and hypotheses that protein was the most important nutrient and that the more people ate from animal sources, the better. But as time went on...as he made more critical observations...as he read literature and conducted his own peer-reviewed experiments, he was forced to re-evaluate his own personal beliefs. He grew up on a dairy farm and once touted dairy as nature's perfect food, yet now he can’t emphasize enough how people should re-think that familiar idea. It’s that ability to re-evaluate his beliefs, admit he was wrong, and change his position when better evidence presented itself that makes me admire Dr. Campbell and respect the arc of his comprehensive studies. I am confident you will too. I hope you enjoy this interview and look forward to many more with highly respected MD’s and PhD’s within this movement. Thank you for listening to Episode 11 with Dr. T. Colin Campbell.

Dr. Laurie Marbas is a family practice physician currently based in Boca Raton, Florida. In her position as Medical Director of Dr. Joel Furhman’s Health Oasis, an outpatient clinic, she helps people regain their health and reverse chronic diseases with diet and lifestyle changes. While an Active Duty Medical doctor with the air force, Dr. Marbas served abroad in various countries and is well traveled in the US, having worked and lived in New Mexico, Oregon, Maryland, Texas, Colorado, and Florida.

Dr. Marbas's insightful approach perpetuates a theme you may be recognizing more and more in various interviews on my podcasts: Like several other dedicated doctors, she was able and willing to rethink the efficacy of standard practice methods in the medical paradigm when it came to treating chronic ailments such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity. But she had serious homework to do on lifestyle medicine because when she started treating her patients in this new way, there wasn’t that much information out there, which goes to show how extraordinary she is. Find out how 3 separate patients with three seemingly unrelated conditions including a stomach ache, ADHD and Lupus along with a story about a refrigerator led Dr. Marbas to fundamentally change the way she treats patients, as well as totally revamp the way she feeds her family and ultimately deliver her to her dream job.

Dr. Marbas also interviewed me as part of her podcast, which you can find on sound cloud. So go check that out, HERE: https://soundcloud.com/laurie-marbas/ian-cramer-the-plant-based-cyclist

In this weeks episode, I speak to Dr. Ted Barnett, aka. Dr. Veggie. Ted is an Interventional Radiologist in Rochester, NY. By and large, a lot of what he does day in and day out is an attempt to counter the bad effects of people’s diets and lifestyles. He is the high tech doctor with low tech solutions and believes all doctors, especially those who perform procedures, should spend at least part of each day trying to put themselves out of business. Dr. Barnett is one of those doctors who’s done so much for lifestyle medicine yet you’ve probably never heard of him. I’m so glad I am able to bring a guy like Dr. Barnett onto the Podcast because he deserves more recognition than he has gotten. He’s a self-less individual driven to make people healthier by providing evidenced based information and by treating the root cause of their chronic ailments. He is leading the charge in putting Rochester, NY on the map as a hub for plant-based and lifestyle medicine and wants to ultimately make Lifestyle Medicine mainstream medicine.

Thank you for listening to Episode 8, with Dr. Steve Lawenda. Steve was such a genuine person and his life has changed in such profound ways over the years. He re-gained his health after years of struggle and was a witness to a life-altering chronic disease with a close family member. Both events heavily influenced who he is today and how he treats patients as a physician. Now he is devoted to a different kind of medicine, one that will truly reverse or prevent many chronic diseases instead of masking the symptoms. He truly wants what is best for you and your health.

This was one of my favorite interviews to date. Join me as I speak with Dr. Bennie about his unorthodox path to become a doctor, what he learned from Dr. McDougall and how he treats the chronic diseases of his patients today. He truly has your best interest at heart. He not only wants you to feel less symptoms but wants you to reverse your disease so that you don't have to take medications any more!

It was a pleasure sitting down with Dr. Kerry Graff, a Family Physician in Canandaigua, NY as we explored a wide array of topics all centering around changing your diet and the impacts it can have not only on your health, but also on the health of the planet. Her story is similar to my last guest, Dr. Chad Teeters in EP. 5, so be sure to listen to both conversations. Besides personal health, Dr. Graff is also very passionate about how our food choices affect the planet and global climate change. I hope you learn something and enjoy the podcast.

I hope you enjoy Episode 5 of the Ian Cramer Podcast. Dr. Chad Teeters is truly a Product of the Product and his results don't lie. Find out how he lost 80 pounds in 8 months, effortlessly. He didn't want to believe the literature or the data, didn't want to be that person to eat more mushrooms and tofu to get healthier. He thought it had to be harder, there had to be some 'catch' he wasn't seeing. But, he tried it, he changed his diet and lifestyle and is a changed man for it, both professionally and personally. Now, he integrates what he learned through his personal endeavor into his professional life as a Cardiologist based out of Rochester, NY. You can connect with him via Twitter @ChadTeeters
