As we go through life, things start to build up that slow us down. Martha calls this stuff clutter, but at the end of the day, what those things really become are obstacles. It’s not just about physical clutter, but also the negative thinking patterns and toxic relationships. Especially for anyone in recovery, it becomes very easy to accumulate these things because of the concern that you may need it in the future. Once you can clear these things out of you life, you will start to feel better about the place that you are living in and finally realize that because you are not the same person anymore, you don’t need those things now!

Today, Martha wants to talk about the possibility of having fun once you have become sober. This is actually a very interesting topic because so many people view alcohol as liquid courage to go experience a situation that would otherwise be awkward. Once that drink is in your hand, it can be a downhill slide after that, especially if you have addictive tendencies. Inevitably, the morning after is always a nightmare that has you thinking, “why would I do this to myself?” It’s a scary process but once you become sober you will have to relearn how to have fun and have conversations while sober, but once you do you will realize that you don’t need to drink or do drugs to have fun!

In today’s episode, Martha wants to talk about having an attitude of gratitude by focusing on what you are grateful for. When you appreciate everything that you have in your life, it opens your eyes to how truly beautiful your life can be. The only way to move forward in your life is to recognize what is going right, that way you have something to build on. We all have experiences in our life where we think that something is going wrong, but you need to change your mindset so you can see what is going right in those situations. Don’t let the negatives weigh you down. Appreciate the little things!

Today in the studio, Martha wants to talk about having a healthy mindset in your sobriety. What is a healthy mindset? Having a healthy mindset starts with a shift in your thought process about how you see the world and how you see yourself from the negative spotlight to a place of positivity. There is no need to continuously beat yourself and keep a failing mindset. Martha is sharing a few tips about what helped her change that failing mindset in her own sobriety with the hope that someone listening to this can take something away to change their own mindset!

In today’s episode, Martha is going to talk to you about loving yourself just as you are. This is a very hard concept for people to come to terms with. We all tend to focus on what’s wrong with us, especially with things like addiction. You don’t have to let all of these negative things define who you are. If you don’t take care of yourself, how are you ever supposed to be there for anyone else? Life can be so much easier if you start taking the time to focus on the things that you are proud of and loving yourself. Drop the baggage and start appreciating the fantastic human being that you are!

Today in the studio, Martha is here to talk about breaking through that feeling of shame as an addict. Shame can be used interchangeably with many other words that addicts are feeling. Whatever word you relate with shame, you as an addict think of your actions and yourself as something wrong when you use this word. Bad actions that you did as an addict don’t have the power to define the person that you truly are. We are and always will be our own biggest critics. Do not drown in the shame. Break through it!

Today in the studio, Martha is going to talk about whether or not you should share your story. What you share, who you share it with, and why you share it, these are all personal decisions. It is really up to you. Keep in mind that sharing your story can help others learn about their own lives and beating their own addictions. There are plenty of good reasons to share or not share stories or even details of stories, but getting it out to the world may save someone else’s life. Don’t be afraid to let the world know that you are a person!

Today Martha is going to talk about what recovery really means. The dictionary defines recovery as returning to a “normal” state, but there is so much more to it than that. Every person is so beautifully different, so how does one become normal? That same principle means that for every individual person, recovery means something different. There is no mold to fit when you are trying to pull yourself out of that dark place of addiction and create a better life for yourself. Do what is best for yourself!
