A man who had spent his life in the shadow of morbidity, writing about his personal experiences with death. Though we still look to him for guidance on the macabre and honour his contributions to the writing profession, still captivating people across the world from beyond the grave, we are often quick to forget the darkness within the man. A darkness that, while vital to his work, would ultimately be Edgar Allan Poe's undoing.
