Our dive into the Mythos takes us through the life of one of America's most prolific women writers in Shirley Jackson. Despite the neglect of her parents, dichotomy of adoration and disrespect by her husband, the shunning at both of their hands and by extension that of society, Jackson would go on to defy all expectations of a womans capabilities in 1940's & 50's America to produce some of the most gripping and terrifying works the world had ever seen, pioneering one of the most iconic horror tropes that has endured for half a century: The Haunted House.

Our dive into the Mythos is of a slightly familial nature as we look at the son of The King of horror: Joe Hill. But to simply label Joe as the son of Stephen King would be foolish. A man who has carved out his own path in ways that would amaze everyone and stand the test of time.

Our dive into the Mythos is a little bit…strange. While we will cover some aspects of Ito’s early life, todays entry is more focused on an analysis of Ito’s expansive body of work, gaining a better understanding of the meaning of some of his best pieces and encouraging new readers along the way. We will hold our noses as we inspect Gyo, try not to wretch over Craterhead and maybe… just maybe… find the source of the Uzumaki.

The Writers Mythos 004 - Stephen King
Our dive into the Mythos goes beyond the standard biopic format and enters full meta territory with our fabled guest, the unseated king of horror: Stephen King. When discussing Stephen King and his extensive pantheon of works, we look to the man and his brush with death. His leg crushed, lung collapsed, skull haemorrhaging and staring death in the face, readers would panic and question: Would the universe that King had created be changed forever? The answer, they soon found, was a resounding “yes.”

The Writers Mythos 003 - Angela Carter
Today's dive into the Mythos opens up The Bloody Chamber for a look at one of England's most important feminist icons in the literary world: Angela Carter. An unflinching discussion on sexual prowess, abuse, and the scrutiny of women everywhere.
In spite of the prejudice she faced in 1970s England that, in some respects, still mirrors our world today, we'll look at how Carter revitalized the fantasy and horror genres while providing a voice for women everywhere that screamed loud and clear: I don't need you, but you DO need me.

The Writers Mythos 002 - Edgar Allan Poe
Todays dive into the Mythos looks at the man who pioneered the detective genre, was at the heart of Romanticism and one of the earliest practitioners of the short story. A man who had spent his life in the shadow of morbidity, writing about his personal experiences with death. Though we still look to him for guidance on the macabre and honour his contributions to the writing profession, still captivating people across the world from beyond the grave, we are often quick to forget the darkness within the man. A darkness that, while vital to his work, would ultimately be Edgar Allan Poe's undoing.

On today’s journey into the Mythos, we start with the Father of Cosmic horror and the Author of Arkham himself; H. P. Lovecraft. From the early beginnings suffering with "Night Gaunts" through to his final days describing a "Haunter In The Dark", we look at the man behind the elder gods, what shaped him into the progenitor of weird fiction and put a lens to the impact this most alien man had on the farthest reaches of the horror genre.
