For real, grab your notebooks for this one!!! Maya and Raniesha of VendHER and Compass are two Black women who use their 9-5 jobs to fund their "5-9” passions. Both of the platforms they’ve created encourages Black women to participate in creative forms of investing. They teach people how to start and scale their vending business and they also guide Black women who are first-generation homebuyers through the home buying process. This is done through their consulting services, group economics, and Black wealth empowerment.
WHEW! That interview was FIRE-YERRR. Please tell me that you’re going to start looking up vending machines after this!? If so -- or if you had any other major breakthroughs while listening, be sure to tag me and @_Vendher and let us know your what your biggest takeaways were!

Have you ever thought about getting into the trucking business? If not, you just may be interested after hearing how Ericka Williams got started! Ericka took money she earned from service-based businesses and working as an apartment manager to invest in real estate and trucking. She now manages 1.9 million dollars in assets via over 12 semi trucks, 9 rental properties, and working on a new project called Texas Ground Zero.
My biggest takeaway was having data and systems in place to ensure that your business is always ready for ANYTHING, whether that’s applying for a loan, seeing where your expenses are, how profitable you are and so much more. What was your takeaway? Tag me and Ericka on social media and let us know!

Ashley Copeland is the twenty-something host of Stacks and the City, the podcast dedicated to showing women how to build wealth and increase their net worth. Raised by a single mother in rural North Carolina, Ashley learned early about how money can affect your way of life. She opened her first investment account at age 21 and purchased her first investment home at 24. As a result of her work, Ashley amassed a six-figure net worth without ever earning a six-figure salary!
This episode with Ashley is SO good. I love the way she breaks down the difference between salary and net worth. My biggest takeaway from this episode is that it doesn’t matter how much money you make - you can still build wealth! Let us know what YOUR biggest takeaway was by tagging us both on Instagram.

Ree Farrington is the owner and inventor of the natural hair styling tool called The Coil Brush. As a wife and mother of three that wears multiple hats on a daily basis, adding inventor and entrepreneur to the list was an unexpected surprise. In less than a year's time and with no background in engineering, she turned a silly idea into a top-selling product.
It was so great talking to Ree about launching a new product line from the ground up! I learned so much about product development and even where to look for legal resources online. I know you’ll learn a lot too, so be sure to tag us with your top takeaways from this episode!

On today’s episode, I am talking about being laid off, applying for unemployment, getting a new job, wanting to go to therapy, and rental updates. In this episode I am very transparent about what’s going on with my money, being laid off for the first time, how I was too prideful to apply to unemployment and what made me finally apply. Honestly, I didn't want to talk about a lot of these things but I wanted to show that even when you think people have it all together... sometimes they don't and it's okay! That’s life and life happens. Sometimes you have to put your pride aside and ask for help. Money has so many emotions tied to it and it’s okay to feel the feels. We got this!

Our guest for this episode, Cora Miller, is a perfect example of using the times to your advantage. When looking for a natural hair care product for her young son, Cora couldn't find anything that catered to young Black and brown boys. So she made her own! Shortly after that experience, she founded Young King Hair Care. In this episode, she talks about the manufacturing process, her vision for retail, branding, her super fast growth and so much more. If you are wondering how to get your product out there to the masses this episode IS FOR YOU!
I learned so much from Cora about the product creation process. My biggest takeaway was starting with how you want to finish! Cora knew she wanted to get into retail so that’s exactly how she started. Tag us with your top takeaway on Instagram, and enjoy this episode!

Today Mark Jones II is bringing some real estate GEMS to the I Don’t Do Budgets show! Mark is an LA native and and witnessed the real estate equity boom prior to the bubble of 2007-2008. He knew then as he knows now that wealth is built in real estate equity. In 2015 he househacked his first single family home in LA County, which allowed him to Live rent-free and to use the equity he received from his first house to get his Los Angeles triplex. He now owns a triplex near the new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California and has a brand called Livin' Rent Free where he teaches people how they too can live free.
If you’ve ever been interested in the concept of living rent-free, you do NOT want to miss this one. Mark gives us so many good recommendations and got me seriously thinking about eliminating my own biggest expense: rent.

Can you imagine making money from real estate investments WITHOUT actually owning any properties?! Today’s guest is teaching us how to do just that, investing in real estate in a less traditional but VERY strategic way.
Tommy Holt Jr. started his real estate career in 2008 when he became a real estate agent while still working a full-time job as a SWAT officer in Miami. He quickly recognized during the start of the 2008 recession that only the strong and resourceful investors would still be in the game after all the dust had settled. During this time is where his love for real estate INVESTING started to take shape. His first flip resulted in a $10,000 loss, but after a ton of research and support from different mentors, he found massive success in wholesaling. Since then he’s done over 100 wholesale deals and has 7 AirBnB properties in 2 different countries.
You have to listen to the entire episode because it is mind blowing the way he invests and the way he thinks about real estate investing.

This week in the guest chair, we have Brandi Hayes. Brandi is a real Estate Investor/ Landlord in New Jersey; She has been working in the banking industry for over the past 5 years. She has an 11 year old son Nehemiah who she introduced to entrepreneurship when he was just 9 years old. She taught him and herself about bulk candy vending. He currently has 10 machines out working for him bringing in passive income.
I’m SO excited for this week’s episode with Brandi. I know it’s longer than usual but that’s because it was SO good! I don’t say this that often but this was one of my favorite interviews. You should take notes for this but I just want you to listen. Like you just need to pay attention and then maybe listen again to take notes haha. In the first part we talk about real estate but the second part Brandi talks about how she introduced her son to entrepreneurship and I don’t even have kids yet but I’m definitely going to listen to this episode again when I have them! This episode is amazing!

Currently operating in Philadelphia, David talks about how he made tough choices in order to start his business and support his community. He talks about the importance of branding, promotion and building a following.
David is truly a self-made man. He designed his own branding, and built his own website and delivery app. He breaks down how the delivery business works and what moves he's looking to make next. I loved David's determination and drive to succeed at all costs. I hope you can be motivated by our conversation!

Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to our first show for the month of February. We’re just a couple of episodes away from the I Don't Do Budgets one year anniversary!
On this week’s show I talk to Shakayla Houston, the founder of Sweet Greens Vegan. She is all about making positive changes and helping African-Americans understand veganism. I loved talking to her about how she turned her lifestyle change into a health conscious influencer brand that specializes in cookbooks, diets and more.
The conversation we had was so fun and full of laughter. I found myself learning so much about how veganism doesn't have to be as difficult as it sounds. She is a wealth of information on vegan brands, alternative meals, and more. If you’re looking for info on how to eat vegan cheaply or how to navigate family dinners with food restrictions, listen in!

I am ECSTATIC to be recording my first episode in my new Atlanta apartment… and even better, I’ve got a veeery special guest on the show today: my grandma! If you missed my Mother’s Day episode with my mom, check out Episode 14 after you’re done with this one.
Today, my grandma and I are talking about what she learned about money growing up, and how she handled raising a large family and becoming a mother at sixteen. She is such a strong woman and hard worker, and even though our opinions on finance differ somewhat, we still have a lot in common!
Let me know what your favorite piece of advice my grandma shared by tagging me on IG @idontdobudgets!

Byron Sellers and Sharnice Williams are a power couple that found themselves in the world of mobile home investing. In 2017, Byron was let go from his job and turned to driving for Lyft to make ends meet. While on that job, he discovered a podcast that opened his eyes to mobile home investing. After introducing the concept to Sharnice, the two began a journey that led to the founding of their company, Mobile Home Elite Investors.
This was the first time we've had two people in the guest chair in the same show, so it was a really great and positive experience hearing their journey. I was floored by how quickly they were able to turn a profit from their mobile homes, making back more than three times their initial investment costs.
I was so inspired by their journey it caused me to look deeper into mobile home investing myself. So sit back and enjoy this really awesome couple!

You are going to love this episode because Taryn and I just had a conversation as if we were just friends sitting on the couch talking about money! Taryn Bushrod is a financial coach that focuses on "behavioral finance", which is a field of study that uses psychology to help explain people's spending or investing habits. When talking with Taryn, we discussed the importance of how our childhood or early adulthood trauma can affect our relationships with money. By approaching our money matters from this angle we can get a better understanding of WHY we spend the way we do.
Taryn was such a pleasure to talk to… even after the episode was done recording we talked for an additional hour! I really enjoyed talking with her and I hope you enjoy some of the wisdom she brought to the show! Don’t forget to check out the links mentioned for more on the 2020 Money Planning Workshop and more.
AND go ahead and share this with a friend that you would love to have money conversations with, and don’t forget to tag me and Taryn on IG with your top 3 takeaways!

Stephanie Davis is a Certified Financial Educator, Real Estate Investor, and Creator of Finances On Point - a financial empowerment blog and community dedicated to helping women create wealth starting where they are, using what they have. Her mission is to empower women to become discipline with their resources so that they can achieve financial freedom, create generational wealth, and live life on their terms.
She believes that EVERYONE can achieve wealth, you just need the right plan.
I learned so much from speaking with her about real estate investing and smart money habits in today’s episode! Be sure to tag us on Instagram if you enjoyed it.
Resources:
Stephanie provided some AMAZING resources throughout the episode and I have provided some of my favorite real estate investing resources as well.
Click HERE to get Stephanie’s Quick Start Checklist to real estate investing. She even lists some of her favorite real estate investing books!
One of my favorite rental property management websites is iPropertyManagement! They have guides, resources, tools, templates, a breakdown of landlord/tenant laws and SO MUCH MORE that will help you become a profitable landlord!
So many people ask me if I have contracts and templates for rental properties and I just use the landlord/tenant templates that iPM provides! They have templates for rental applications, eviction notices, sublease agreements, move out checklist and SOOO MUCH MORE… I could literally go on forever lol there’s a template for just about anything you can think of! Not only are there universal templates, they have templates for EACH state that are simple and easy to use.
Another frequent question that I get a lot is “how to find good contractors?” I personally use Home Advisor. You can literally type in exactly what you’re needing done and they will match you with the best contractors for the job, show you recent reviews from other people who have worked with them AND allows you to click a button that will request a quote from all of the ones you were matched with. It just makes finding contractors so much easier!

Hey Hey! For the fourth episode in the I Don't Do Budgets Investing Series, I’m talking to investment and travel guru, Teri Ijeoma. Teri began her professional career working in education and non-profits. When she started trading stocks nine years ago, she initially saw it as an opportunity to supplement her income. She was so successful with this side hustle that in 2017, she decided to quit her job, travel the world, and begin trading full-time.Teri breaks down investing so well. She truly is a teacher! My favorite part of this episode was hearing about her worst trade and how she overcame it!

We’re back with the third episode of the Black Women Investing series. This one is about a goal that I’ve had since I was 22. Do you remember on episode 2 when I talked about trying to apply for this real estate investing program and not knowing my disposal income!?
Well that’s when I decided that I had to get my life together if I REALLY wanted to invest in real estate. I calculated my disposable income and started saving $500/month and eventually increased it to $1000/month and so on. (This is why I preach knowing your disposable income!) I cut back on all the unnecessary shopping I was doing and started being intentional about my money!
Four years later I have my 1st rental property!!! It wasn’t an overnight process to jump into real estate investing, so I’m excited to share what I’ve learned during this process with you today.

If you’re a business owner, or are thinking about becoming one, you’ve probably thought about trademarking your name at some point. But is it worth the expense? For this episode, I sat down with Jordan Franklin, a practicing attorney who specializes in Trademark and Copyright Law.
Jordan is a native Houstonian that received a B.A. in Philosophy from Baylor University and a J.D. from The Southern University Law Center. She believes in the importance of protecting your brand and has found a love in working with all types of start-ups as well as fashion/apparel brands.
She is passionate about educating her clientele as much as she is passionate about advocating for and serving them. Despite being SUPER professional, at the end of the day, she is just a young, ambitious black girl trying to shatter glass ceilings and make a name for herself.

So I know there are people out there in the world like me who hate the “B” word… Budget. After figuring out budgets didn’t work for me, I developed my own unique strategies that I’ve personally found more effective while still allowing me to work towards financial freedom.
