Cinematic Universe is a podcast all about superhero and comic book movies and TV. Each episode, we look at one movie or show and find out more about the comics behind the screen. Along the way we run through the latest news across the genre, recommend related reading to explore, and pitch our not-always-entirely-serious ideas for future superhero films. From Iron Man to The Dark Knight, from Scott Pilgrim to Spider-Man, from The Incredibles to Howard the Duck, everything across the entire cinematic universe is in our sights.

It’s our first ever live minisode! Well, it’s not live any more, but it was live when we recorded it. Essentially, after the success and enjoyment of our Live Infinity War Watchalong on Friday night, we realised that this streaming lark could actually be a good way of doing news minisodes. Particularly when there’s quite immediate and pressing news (the MCU rescheduling) that we could try and get released quite quickly, with no editing. So what you’re hearing now is the unedited audio from a video livestream that Seb and James did on Saturday night, which was watched on YouTube by a surprising number of regulars, who were commenting and chatting along the way (which is why we were able to read out and react to what they were saying).
Mindful that we were also planning to put it out on the podcast feed (with no edits), we’ve tried to ensure that the things that were seen onscreen were also read out – but if there are any instances where it’s not clear what we’re talking about, apologies!

It's been a long time coming, but we have finally - finally - caught up with the MCU (or at least we would have, if we'd got this episode produced and released before Far From Home arrived in cinemas). The last MCU film to be released before we started this podcast also happens to be one of the best and most important movies not just of this series, but of the entire genre. We've an awful lot to say about it, so it's no surprise that we go somewhat long. It's taken its sweet time - nearly six years! - but Bong Joon-Ho's 2013 post-apocalyptic epic is finally available legally to UK viewers, courtesy of Netflix. We might have considered it for inclusion on the podcast purely based on the number of previous comic-book-movie stars featured within, but happily, it is actually based on a comic - Jacques Lob's La Transperceneige - so it counts entirely on merit. And what merit it has.

It's been a long, long time. But the Endgame is finally here.

We've teased it for years, and it's finally here. We're finally talking about V For Vendetta - the Alan Moore adaptation that Seb viscerally hates and James inexplicably doesn't. At least... that's what they thought back in 2005, when its vision of a fascist-ruled dystopian future was just a wild pipe dream. How does it look in the altogether cheerier 2018? It's safe to say that even by the low standards of "comic book movies from 1997", Spawn is not a particularly well-regarded film. But you know us, we always like to look for the good in things, from Howard the Duck to The Punisher. Were we able to similarly find something to enjoy about the adaptation of Todd McFarlane's early-90s-defining Image series? The answer... won't shock you, actually, because seriously, this is just a terrible, terrible movie. But hopefully you'll enjoy hearing us talk about it anyway, because we had plenty to unpick.

Last month, Joe did something pretty amazing: he watched every single MCU movie (prior to Infinity War) over a single weekend, without any breaks inbetween. And as well as raising a ton of cash for Parkinson's UK, he spent the weekend livetweeting and recording short mini pod segments for Soundcloud after each film. So if you didn't catch any of that while it was going on, we've stitched every one of those little bits together - along with a freshly-recorded intro and outro with Seb and James along for the ride!
Note that this podcast is technically the first time you'll hear Joe talk directly about Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, since we haven't got as far as covering those on main episodes yet; and you'll also get to hear what happens when a man has to watch Thor: The Dark World in the small hours of a Sunday morning.

A new year brings some format changes designed to keep the main episodes a bit tighter - so of course this has naturally led to our longest ever episode.
