In the first years of the 2000s, a ruthless serial killer roamed the streets of Mexico City. Juana Barraza, a wrestler with the nickname of ‘The Silent Woman’, grew up with an alcoholic, negligent mother who was incapable of love, and was quick to sell her daughter for a single beer. The relationship between the two drove Juana to gruesome acts as an adult, attacking and killing 40 old women, if not more, specifically targeting women who are 60 and older, who live alone. Join us as we dive into the life, crime, and prosecution of Juana Barraza.

Welcome to a new season of Macabre, where we will be exploring women in crime.
Episode nine aired on November 16, 2021 features junior Travis Fruhling. I talked with Travis about the clubs he is involved with on campus including being a part of the College Republicans and the Italian club. This episode discussed a variety of topics including why Travis came to Catholic, future post-grad plans, future political talk to broad sports conversation about the NFL and MLB.
This live broadcast for WCUA aired on November 9th, 2021. Episode eight features two guests, senior Nick Swanson and junior Javier Mazariegos. The first half hour I spoke with Nick about what clubs he is involved with on campus, his history major, and his future plans after graduation. The second half of the show features Javier Mazariegos who is a part of many clubs including being the President of the Philosophy Club on campus. Javi wants to make the most of his education here at Catholic University to serve the Church post-graduation.
This episode was recorded on November 2nd, 2021. Tuesday November 2nd [Election Day] has arrived. Episode seven features junior Michael Ippolito who interned for the New Jersey GOP as well as the Jack Ciattarelli for Governor Campaign. This episode gave live analysis of election results as they came in.
This live broadcast aired on WCUA on October 26th, 2021. The Atlanta Braves versus the Houston Astros are the two teams that will be playing the 2021 World Series. Episode six features senior Andrew Snaith who is one of the hosts of Nation’s Pastime in the Nation’s Capital. This episode goes into detail about Andrew’s love for baseball and what goes into his show prep to keep up with the latest baseball news. We also discussed the Fall Classic and Andrew’s internship experience with the Guadalupe Radio Network.
This live show aired on WCUA programming on October 19th, 2021. Election Day (November 2nd) is on the horizon. Episode five features junior John Desordi who over the past summer interned for the GOP Candidate Jack Ciattarelli who is running for the Governor of New Jersey against Incumbent Governor Phil Murphy. Desordi discussed his role as an intern in the Ciattarelli campaign and what policies Ciattarelli would implement if he is the next elected Governor. Furthermore, we spoke about our reactions to Senator Ted Cruz’s visit to Catholic University for his Verdict podcast. Desordi also spoke about his current Congressional internship for Congressman Darrell Issa from California’s 50th District.
This is a live WCUA radio show program which aired on October 5th, 2021. The NCAA College Basketball season is right around the corner beginning in a few weeks. Episode three features guest junior Luke Fahy who is trying out for the basketball team at Catholic University. We discussed Luke’s passion for the game of basketball and why he wants to play basketball at Catholic for only his last two years. Furthermore, we talked about the upcoming Catholic basketball season and how if he makes the team how he is going to manage school and basketball.
The last episode of the Spring 2022 semester features Stephen White, the executive director of The Catholic Project at The Catholic University of America. Mr. White answered questions about The Catholic Project about their mission and goals at the University. In addition, he discussed the Synod listening sessions and the Certificate in Child Protection and Safe Environment program at CUA.
This WCUA broadcast features the 15th President of The Catholic University of America (CUA), John H. Garvey. Mr. Garvey has been the President of CUA since July 1, 2010. President Garvey is stepping down as President on June 30, 2022. This interview consists of President Garvey answering questions about his time here as President of CUA and his academic career as well. Lastly, President Garvey speaks about his future plans after he steps down as President of CUA in late June.
March Madness is well underway. Episode sixteen features junior Pat Buckley who is a guard on the Catholic University basketball team. The interview goes into detail about the successful 2021-22 season. In addition, Pat shares in this interview some of what the practice schedule is like and the legacy of his family who has played Catholic basketball as well. In conclusion, Pat gives some of his NCAA Final Four predictions and NBA Playoff Predictions.
This episode features Glenn Østen Anderson, who is an Assistant Professor in the Media and Communications Department at The Catholic University of America. Professor Anderson is the director of the documentary Coogan’s Way, which is about a bar in Washington Heights New York City. The documentary was released in May 2021. In addition, Professor Anderson goes into the making and promotion of Coogan’s Way. Professor Anderson discusses some of the high profile figures with whom he had to conduct interviews in order to complete the documentary of this one special bar.
Major League Baseball’s 2022 season is in doubt because of its ongoing lockout between the League and the Players Association. Episode fourteen features senior James Higgins, one of the hosts of Nation’s Pastime in the Nation’s Capital. James spoke about the up-to-date MLB lockout negotiations. James is a member of the Cardinal Sports Association on campus. James talked regarding the upcoming event on March 1st, 2022 where J.J. Putz, a former MLB baseball and currently the President’s Assistant of the Arizona Diamondbacks is speaking over zoom to CUA students. Since James is graduating in May 2022, James expressed some of his post-graduation plans.
This episode features Professor Jay D. Brock, who is the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Chair of the Department of Music Performance, Stage Director in the Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art at The Catholic University of America (CUA). Professor Brock is also the director of the play Next to Normal which was staged from February 18-20th 2022 in Ward Hall at CUA. Moreover, Professor Brock shares details about Next to Normal and what it takes into directing a theatrical musical production.
The second half of this episode features senior Anthony Grieco from Massachusetts. Anthony is a part of multiple clubs and organizations on campus including Campus Ministry and a member of the President’s Society. Furthermore, Anthony was also a student leader of the SEEK Conference on Catholic University’s campus which took place from February 4-6th, 2022. He discussed his internship with NASA during his time at Catholic. Anthony is the winner of the Mr. CUA 2022 annual competition and spoke about experience performing in front of the CUA community.
The first half of this episode features junior Matthew Drauschak. Matthew is a Student Government Association Senator for the Class of 2023. Moreover, Matthew spoke about the clubs he is involved with on campus including Program Board and Habitat for Humanity. In addition, Matthew has had an Congressional Internship in the Fall 2021 and discussed some of his responsibilities while being an intern. Lastly, Matthew spoke regarding his post-graduation goals such as law school in the future.
Welcome everyone to the Spring 2022 semester! The first episode of the Spring semester features senior Stephen Caulfield. Stephen is the president of the Knights of Columbus at Catholic University. Stephen went into how he became involved in the Knights of Columbus and the positives of being a part of it. Also, since Stephen is graduating in May of 2022, we spoke about his post-graduation plans and the multiple internships he has held during his time at CUA. Stephen’s internships include a couple of congressional offices, and The Institute of World Politics.

Also, we talked about Robbie’s appreciation for sign language and how one day he would like to be an interpreter to help others. Lastly, we discussed Robbie’s internship with the Eternal Word Television Network and what he did at the network, and he as well gave his baseball playoff predictions.

Student Government Association (SGA) Elections were in full swing at Catholic University. This episode features Joseph Stillwell who was running for an SGA Student Senator position to advocate for the Class of 2023. We discussed what Joseph would bring to the table if he was elected to the position. Stillwell is also the Chairman of the College Republicans Club at Catholic University. We spoke about how College Republicans Club interacts with other organizations around the DC Community, and future events for the rest of the Fall 2021 semester.
