"I saw 'A' an opportunity to do something very unique and in terms of branding and building a brand in Canada from literally the ground-up, it's exciting...... and how do you get your name out there? I think that I wanted to be able to use multiple vehicles and I felt like LinkedIn was probably the best platform to reach as many people, I'll call my target audience, as humanly possible."
EP15 Mike Coyle - Three Pilars to Any Business
Mike Coyle, 47 year old Sales and Marketing professional. Currently VP Sales Americas for Powertraveller - manufacturer of portable power and solar products.
Most of those that know Mike see him as a strong leader who blends the power of being honest with a healthy dose of empathy. He places enormous emphasis on being straight forward often at the detriment of political correctness.
“Strong leadership comes from being able to be honest with people to help them get out of their own way and focus on the task at hand”, are words you will often hear from Mike. Combine those leadership skills with his ability to plan strategically and implement tactically, you end up with a new breed of sales and marketing tactician required in todays fast changing business environment.
His most recent success came with a multi million deal landed with one of his current employers largest customers. “we had kind of fallen off the map with these guys and after several meetings the decision came down to one person. A Japanese gentleman, who rarely spoke. He held all of the cards and as he listened to me speak for a 20 minute presentation, he said nothing. At the end I asked for the business, he paused for an agonizing 2 minutes. After lots of pondering and almost comical facial expressions, he agreed. That was the longest 2 minutes of my life.”
Mike is currently facing his latest challenge building a new business segment for the company he works for, applying the strategies he has learned over the years. He is a major asset for the company he works for today. He treats the business as if it were his own and uses his own set of values and principles to guide him.
Edmund Yeung is an award-winning sales and marketing executive with more than 25 years of experience. He was one of the top ranked sales leaders with Oracle in North America. Edmund achieved an average of 300% over a 5-year span.

“We are the ambassador of the brand. In a way, you have to have somebody who is credible to be able to represent a brand - a company brand. So it goes hand-in-hand but again, you have to take the time to understand the different positioning to be able to do it properly but it all comes back to credibility, If you don't have credibility, go and sell anything - it's not going to be easy.”
François Lemay has 20 years experience as a sales consultant in the software industry.
Started his career at IBM (7 years) then worked for other software and consulting services organization in the banking and financials services industry.
"Let's talk about #metoo for a second - a lot of harassment in the IT industry. I can share with you as a gay male, it was extremely difficult to fit in because they always looked at me as -the gay guy - he's no good, but I was good. People did not like to see a gay guy thriving and also over achieving their sales quota."
Jennifer King would be considered a sales transformation specialist. She brings clarity and quantification to the sales organization with proven metrics and processes. This includes People, Process, Culture and Infrastructure. She works with organizations that need to take their sales teams to the next level.
Jennifer’s biggest win was truly outstanding in dollars and impact, but the real wins are in passing this magic on and working with sales people in coaching and mentoring and reaching their goals.
An evangelist in the arena of Goal Setting and a life coach under Bob Proctor’s Life Success series, including Born Rich and Goal Setting, Jennifer conducts seminars and public speaking not just in the high tech space but in how it applies to personal growth in all aspects of life.

Clay Groves is obsessed with fish and best known for a quest (with former host Dave Kellam) in 2011 to catch and eat every kind of freshwater fish in New Hampshire. After catching and eating 48 species of fish and ending the epic quest, he could not stop talking about the adventures or the fishy people met along the way. Thus, the podcast was born. The style has been described as a cross between NPR’s Car Talk and the Tonight Show Night (Fallon, not Leno). The podcast is just about to have it's fifth birthday with the recording of the 200th episode scheduled for memorial day. The Fish Nerds have been featured on National Public Radio, Boston Public Radio, New Hampshire Public Radio and nearly every news outlet in New Hampshire. In addition Clay is a nationally recognized speaker who has spoken at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, on stage at WGBH Boston and at the Boston Symphony. When Clay is not podcasting he writes grants to fund afterschool programming and runs a Fishing Guide Service.
I bring you this special 100th episode. It's how I used the art and process of podcasting to heal a recent wound.

Alexander, The Podcaster's Coach
I haven’t connected with a friend since Christmas. We were over-due to connect and I was heading toward his neighborhood one day. He always makes time to have a coffee for me. I’ve known him for 12-13 years.
I call him. His phone is out of service. It’s happened one time before. He has a crummy job and goes through these periods of no work. He lost his phone before, but managed to get it back. He called me when it happened. This time around, he did not give me a heads up. I waited for a week. Nothing.
Fed up of calling a phone number that was invalid, I went to his apartment. No luck. There was mail in his mailbox. I wrote a note and stuffed it in. What’s going on? Give me a call.
Another week, nothing.
I leave messages at the place where I think he works, but is not in the directory. I find out who the property owner of his building is and leave messages…..more like pleas. Do you have any info. Somebody feels sorry for me and calls me back. He moved a couple of weeks ago. So he hasn’t died. I am suppose to be his emergency contact. I am relieved, but I have no way to reach him. We had no mutual friends. He is a single city dweller and I am a family man in the sub-burbs.
Two weeks I worried, almost always assuming the worst. When I found out he moved, I was mad. Why isn’t he connecting with me. I have sent emails. He can check his email at the library. Why? What is wrong.
Then the pain set in. He loved his neighborhood. He had been living in his apartment for about 20 years. He’ll never afford his neighborhood now. He’s almost 60. He’s slower. He’s been having major allergy issues. Last time I visited, we walked to the coffee shop and he had to stop midway to catch his breath.
Where is he? Is he on the street? Is he sick? Did he lose his job? No one will hire him. He’s too old. How can he get by? He has no family. What’s happened? Why?
On and on this went inside my head. My body would follow feeling grief. I was in grieving over circumstances that I did not have information on. Grief became my meditation practice. I was totally fine when it was out of mind, but when it came back, I struggled. The grief sucked my energy and I was sad. Quite frankly, I was sick of myself. I wanted to get out of myself. I just wanted a break.
I have not touched booze in 3 months, but it was the only solution to escape myself. 4 beers and a movie. My children stayed away, without me even asking, and I had a few hours of forgetting.
But of course, I would pay for it. Even thought it was only 4 beers, it completely ruined my sleep. My body detests alcohol. It fights it. While I try to sleep, my body is going crazy working the alcohol out. It keeps me up. I wake up, not rested, and therefore unproductive. Thank god for Sundays.
My focused moved from my lost friend to my stupidity.
When Monday came around, I began to realize that I was grieving over fiction. I had created various negative situations regarding my lost friend. I knew 2 things only - his phone number does not work and he moved. I know nothing else.
I formed these attachments. I became attached to the melancholy. I became attached to grief. I became especially attached to myself - how dare he not call me? Am I not his friend?! Then I became attached to an old coping mechanism, beer, that I knew stopped working. It’s no good, if the end result is bad. The end result being a full day of being tired and not well rested, not to mention being harmful to this vehicle called my body.
Let me tell you something about this experience, and I want you to think about it. Do you do this too? I grieved over fantasy. I went with worse case scenario and experienced a roller...

I was recently a guest on Life Transformation Radio with Sean Douglas talking about my journey as the Podcaster’s Coach and the recently released, Book on Podcasting. It was a lot of fun and I really appreciated the opportunity.
There were several things that came up during the interview that I would like to expand on today. The book I wrote is about how the process of podcasting and podcast creation can change a person’s life. Regardless to say, I am a huge advocate for people to start their podcast…..today! Right away! Don’t delay if you haven’t already.
Today I present a podcast on 3 ways podcasts can improve your life.

Keep in mind these things to combat feels of perfectism - Remember something in the past that you took on and compare yourself from day 1 to day 60 Embrace your imperfection. Listen to the imperfection of others. Listen to podcast #1 from your favorite podcaster. Tell yourself that it is ok that you are not perfect When you see perfection in social media, remember that this can be a snap shot in someone elses life. You don’t even know that its real. Cut yourself some slack. Love yourself. Don’t beat yourself up And create a range from 1 to 10. Put someone at 1 and anther at 10. Where are you? Practice will move you up.

If you want to be someone new or re-invent yourself, then you have to just do it. You have to start somewhere. You start being who you want to be on day one, and you build your experience up. It’s going to be hard, and you will meet opposition, but you have to persevere. You must not allow negativity from strangers get you down. They are strangers and not a meaningful part of your life. Of course, if I was approach by a stranger with courteous feedback and valid points, that would be meaningful. If it is something other than that, brush it off.
This episode is about a strategy on dealing with criticism which appears negative and unhelpful.
Cory Johnston from The Brainstorm Podcast joins me for a Micro Podcast Improv. I’ll share a short interview that we did together this coming Friday.
Have a great week!

Podcasting is growing and thriving business, but it is much much more than a business. Maybe you are doing this for your existing business, or starting a new business, or even just a hobby. If you are creating a podcast, specifically for a business, it’s a brilliant move of course, but I want you to open your mind to the potential of personal growth while you podcast for your business.
A podcast can be a tool for transformation and personal development. Have you made your goals for 2018? Do you have a vision of what you want your life and podcast to be this year. It's not too late to do it.
In this episode, I ask you to think of these things. Dig in deep, pull that inner artist out again, and design a life with more happiness.
News segment features Rob Cressy, Founder of Cress Media. http://cressmedia.com/
Hosts: John Lee Dumas, https://www.eofire.com/ and Alexander Laurin http://podcasterscoach.com
When you want to stretch yourself and grow, it gets uncomfortable. They call it the comfort zone, right? I can see an image of it. You have a person on the left. In the middle, you’ve got static, electricity, a whirlwind, and then on the right, the same person filled with personal growth and development. It’s going to suck when you break through the comfort zone. Notice that I didn’t say, ‘when you try to break through’? I prefer WHEN YOU BREAK THROUGH. It’ll be challenging, but after you break on through the discomfort, you are a higher, more achievement, further enlightened version of your old self.
Podcast News Included on the second half of the program. Special Co-Host is Christian Swain from Rock N Roll Archaeology.
I talk today about stress and choosing to let things go. My stress levels have been very high. Despite having a Publisher for my book, I have had to do and learn so many new things and hire many different people. One person in particular ripped me off, lied to me, and delivered something that I was not happy with. There was a lot of conflict. The product, my media kit, means a lot to me, so I held that in my heart. When things started going sideways, it started to hurt. I carried that hurt and disappointment for days.
But you know, this is life. These things are really hard to avoid. Unless you are dedicating yourself to a meditation practice in a cave, it’s going to be very hard to avoid conflict. Conflict makes me sick inside. Does that happen to you? It feels like a sickness to me. When I have sickness, I want it to go away. We all do, for sure.
When you are in this state, you need to think about your well being, and the well being of those around you.

Hey, this is Alexander Laurin and you are listening to the final episode of season one, of the Podcaster’s Life. My Special guest today is John Lee Dumas!
Thank you for joining me. I took some additional time off after the Christmas break. I finished writing my book. It’s called ‘The Book on Podcasting: An Insiders Guide to Recording Success’. I am really excited to have finished it. It was a lot of work, but I loved doing it. Right now, it’s getting formatted for paperback and the book cover, front and back are coming to completion. Baring any disaster, it will be on sale at the end of the month. It feels really great to say that.
I managed to get 15 minutes with John Lee Dumas, and wouldn’t you know it, it did not record well, but I salvaged what I could. I just bombarded him with questions and then we jumped into a Micro Podcast Improv.
Can you imagine how many people John Lee Dumas has helped? I want to be just like John Lee Dumas and have the power to help an unlimited amount of people.
Before I go and close this season, I’d like to tell you that the podcast is changing. It’s been heavily focused on interviews, but I am going to take a season, and not do any interviews. Also, I’m adding the word HAPPY to the title. The Happy Podcasters Life. I want to inspire you, I want to motivate you, and I want you to be a successful person. If you want success, you must have happiness. That’s my mission. On paper, my mission reads - help 1M Podcasters. As the weeks pass, I hope to hear from you and discover if I am moving closer to my goal of reaching 1M people.

Marketing yourself is something that you are doing everyday. You could be building a friendship network, hunting for a new job, or selling your products or services.
Here's a quick recap:
You meet people for the first time in a social environment, you are marketing yourself as a nice kind person, open, and trustworthy. Let’s say you are a job hunter, you are marketing. And of course, if you are an entrepreneur, you are selling yourself and your business products or services. The art of persuasion is involved with all three. You ask questions to people to learn about them and their challenges. Listening is incredible powerful when it comes to marketing. People like to talk, people want to be understood, and when people know that you are listening, it develops trust, and trust builds influence. I don’t know if people still think negatively about sales, but I sure don’t. Sales people are very good communicators, and quite frankly, their pretty entertaining. We based on need, wants, and desire. The buyer has the ultimate choice in the process. The buyer is your next boyfriend or girlfriend, The buyer is your future employer, and the buyer is the one that gives you money for the thing that they want from you.
Writing and Talking are great activities to help you get through challenging periods. I’ve practiced many different ways of expressing myself.
Here is a summary of the show:
Writing and talking are great tools for self reflection and discovery. Especially writing. We got all this jumbled stuff within in our minds, and we need a platform or a medium to sort it all out. I think if you are going through a challenge, then this can help you get some of the nasty stuff out of your head, but also help you organize your thinking. When you were done, say, your small journal is done, then you simply dispose of your writings. These things are not mementos or keepsakes. If you have someone that you fully 100% trust, you can sort a lot of things out, as long as the other person is not focusing on giving advice. The Socratic method is a form of cooperative argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presumptions. Argument – just talking about opposing ideas, no malice, just respectful communication. I get this often times where it’s just a conversation about something that is on my mind, and I am having a good conversation, and then new ideas will pop out and then I grab them and say YES that is a good idea, that could be very helpful! It could come from the other person, but I find at times, the idea comes from me. What do they say, we all have the answers within us. If you can get some value – and idea or the spirit of the direction of where you must go, then that is all you need.
