For this episode, I’m going to be giving you some big help. Sometimes you need to save some extra time when grooming.

One example is that you may not have the time to take a blazer to the dry cleaners - but you might find out that it smells. To help you get through your day you can spray some vodka on it and it will remove the smell.

Some of the tips on this episode may seem a bit crazy, but honestly, I tested these and they work.

20 Grooming Hacks: 1. Vodka get rids of body odor. 2. Baking soda can be a great toothpaste. 3. Cut your nails and file before a shower. 4. Use scissors on your nails after a shower. 5. Cool to cold showers are best for you. 6. Wash your hair less. 7. Shave after you shower. 8. You can shave IN the shower as well. 9. Brush your teeth in the shower. 10. Shave your neck weekly. 11. Use hair conditioner as a shaving cream. 12. Use Lip Balm if you cut yourself shaving. 13. If you have a beard, use conditioner. 14. Hair gel can be used on your eyebrows or beard. 15. Coffee filters can help get rid of an oily face. 16. Olive oil is a good option for dry lips. 17. Use nail clippers to cut stray hairs. 18. Keep a bar of soap in your gym bag. 19. Don’t use your fingers to pop a pimple. 20. Use deodorant on hot spots on the back of your foot.

Highlights:

  • If you have a jacket you don’t want to take to the dry cleaner, spray vodka on it.
    • Test the fabric first.
  • Make sure use clean the jacket at some point, as it’s a temporary fix.

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode80 We are constantly involved in meetings. Whether it’s a sales meeting, an interview, or hanging out with coworkers at the bar we are constantly meeting with other people. In these situations, appearance really matters - especially if you want to make a good impression.

You wouldn’t wear swim trunks and a tank top to your sister’s wedding in Alaska, would you? Of course not.

It’s important to know the proper way to dress, and sometimes the answer may not be so obvious. You may not want to wear a suit and tie to an interview with a startup in Silicon Valley. When you’re hanging out with coworkers you probably don’t want to wear torn up jeans and a paint splattered tee shirt.

On this episode of the Real Men Real Style podcast, Antonio discusses the five ways we meet with people all the time and how to dress for the occasion.

Download this episode today so you know how to dress for in the best possible pay for your next meeting or interview.

5 Types of Meetings 1. Selling 2. Buying 3. Support 4. Casual 5. Formal

Highlights:

  • Even if you aren’t a salesman, you are always trying to sell.
  • The goal of a selling meeting is to persuade.
  • The worst thing you can do is betray their expectations.
  • In order to persuade, dress as sharp as the situation allows.
  • Don’t overdress or underdress on an interview.
    • There is always a dress code, even if it’s not written.
  • Companies are looking for someone that fits into their mould.
  • Bring clothing that gives you options.
  • At a buying meeting, try to convey power.
  • Find ways to make personal connections with someone.
  • Support meetings aren’t about you.
    • Dress to fit in.
  • Casual meetings are to get to know each other outside of business.
  • Casual does not mean sloppy.
  • In most situations you can wear nice shorts.

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode76 Have you put much thought into how you sit? What you do with your legs can actually affect your mentality, as well as the signals you are giving off to other people.

Believe it or not, when you sit with your legs crossed this can send off negative signals to people. It makes you appear closed off, and like you aren’t listening. This can cause problems in business - especially if you are trying to negotiate.

In fact there was even a study by Gerard I. Nierenberg and Henry H. Calero that showed out of 2,000 negotiations that were recorded, not a single one ended with legs being crossed. That’s a pretty definitive conclusion.

Download this episode of Real Men Real Style to hear more about what signals your legs may be unintentionally sending off.

5 Sitting Positions:

  1. Legs out front with the knees together.
  2. Legs out front with the knees spread.
  3. Leg over leg cross position.
  4. Figure 4 leg cross position position.
  5. Ankle-lock position.

Highlights:

  • The way you placed your legs when you sit sends a message.
    • It indicates where you are from.
  • If someone sits with their legs crossed that normally don’t, it can be a signal that something is wrong.
  • The further something is from your body, the less you think about the action it takes.
  • You have to have observed someone’s normal behavior to get an idea about their verbal behavior.
  • Be respectful with how wide you have your legs spread.
  • Wider spread legs shows dominance.
  • Someone bouncing their legs shows that they are nervous.
  • Leg over leg is more common in Europe.
  • Figure 4 leg shows a higher status and is more common in America.
  • When making decisions or negotiations, you shouldn’t have your legs crossed.
  • If you are a natural leg crosser, you may be sending a negative signal.

Mindset Takeaway: Understand that your leg position has an affect on you and others.

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode75 It’s natural for human beings to measure things. Even as children we measure our happiness based on what other children have. As adults it makes less sense to continue this mindset, as my income isn’t what makes me happy. It’s how you use your finances that will make you depressed, not the number of zeros at the end of your paycheck.

It’s not just finances that we miss measure. In fact there are many aspects of life that most people aren’t seeing get the whole picture of, and it can lead to emotional problems. Some people don’t realize what’s important when it comes to weight, work, and a good night’s rest.

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode72 We legally become men when we turn 18 years old, but that doesn’t mean you are actually a man. What makes a man, in my opinion, is how much responsibility you have - not just for yourself but also for others. When you start taking responsibility for yourself, you should show it.

We all like to think that we don’t, or shouldn’t, judge people based on their appearance. Unfortunately, that’s just not true. People will always judge you based on how you look. How you look can instantly establish the amount of respect you’ll get from clients and potential bosses. If you dress like a boy, with cheap ripped up jeans and ratty old t-shirts they aren’t likely to appreciate you. If you dress in clean nice fabrics, and accessories that complement each other they’ll know you made the time and effort to take care of yourself and that you’ll be willing to take care of them.

On this episode of the Real Men Real Style Podcast, Antonio looks at 7 ways you can start dressing like a man, and start letting your appearance put you on track for success.

The way you dress can have a direct impact on how much money you make. That’s right, your outfits could be holding you back from your true income potential. Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode70 One of the most common questions I get is, “How do I match my clothing?” It’s sounds like a simple subject, but it’s not something we are taught in school. In fact most people are never properly instructed on how to match their clothing, and they are really doing themselves a disservice by not putting thought into their attire.

Let me ask you, when you walk into a room do you want people to think you look like a clown? Do you want to spend your entire time at an interview, or meeting with someone and they just can’t get past what you’re wearing or do you want them to acknowledge you look good and then move on to focus on you and your skills? To do this you really need to know the basic rules of matching and really think about what you are going to wear each morning.

Download this episode of Real Men Real Style today and start putting more effort into yourself instead of hoping to get lucky with your looks.

5 Matching Rules: 1. Complement, don’t match 2. Imitate the masters. 3. Levels of formality. 4. Match leathers. 5. Match metals.

Highlights: * Style is simplicity. * It allows people to move on from your clothes and look at your skills. * Think through your outfit, don’t get lucky. * Matching is when fabrics are the same. * Complementing is when items work together and play off each other. * Look at people in the spotlight that you like their look. * If you imitate the masters you will pick up on their techniques. * Some pieces are made to go with certain clothing. * Know the difference between casual and formal. * You can’t throw a leather jacket over a suit, you’ll bring down the outfit. * The three main leathers are black, brown and oxblood. * Don’t have a harsh contrast between shades of leather. * Decide what colors you gravitate toward and pick a belt that fits. * Keep your metals the same. * Wedding bands don’t follow this rule. * These rules are all basic rules, and are not set in stone. * Matching Clothing Made Easy Video

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode67 Have you ever gone into a shoe store and had someone tell you a bunch of terms you didn’t understand about the shoes? Did they tell you a Goodyear Welt is the best or that a Blake Stitch will irritate your feet? Well, these may not be true. The best thing you can do is arm yourself with knowledge before you start looking for a shoe.

Everyone wants to protect their feet while looking good. When it comes down to how shoes are made there are 3 types of construction. None of them are better than they others, but they all certainly have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you are the kind of person that goes through soles faster than most people you may want one type. If you need something more waterproof you’ll probably want a different style.

Download this episode of Real Men Real Style to learn how footwear is made, and find the type that will suit your lifestyle.

The 3 Types of Show Construction: 1. Cementing 2. Goodyear Welt 3. Blake Stitch

Highlights: * Upper is the section that is the leather portion covering the foot. * The insole is the material inside the shoe that touches your foot. * Outsole is on the exterior of the shoe, that touches the ground. * Welt is found on higher end shoes. It's the strip of leather that runs around the border of outsole. * Last is a 3D model of a foot used to maintain shape of shoe during construction. * Cementing is the most common construction. + Uses an adhesive to connect the sole to the upper. + Best used with a rubber sole, not leather. + Advantage: Inexpensive. + Disadvantages: Will fall apart and generally not worth getting resoled.

  • Goodyear Welt is a stitching along the outside of the upper.

    • Bottom of the upper is shaped over the last and stitched on the outside.
    • Makes resoling much easier.
    • Advantages: Considerably waterproof, most cobblers can resole, and the shoe can be sewn yourself.
    • Disadvantage: Much more expensive, and don’t have much flexibility
  • Blake stitch is stitched on the inside of the shoe.

    • Requires specialized machines to resole.
    • Advantages: Get advantages of Goodyear Welt at a lower price, can get resoled, upper and lower connect looks better, and much more flexible.
    • Disadvantage: Is not as water resistant as Goodyear Welt, it has to be sent to special shops to be resoled which is more expensive, and the interior stitching can irritate some people’s feet.

Mindset Takeaway: It’s important to know the shoe construction for your particular needs and wants.

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode65 Skinny jeans are a huge style right now. Rock stars wear them, movie stars wear them, and the skinny jeans section is taking over the men’s department. You shouldn’t buy into the trend for several reasons. The first is that you probably don’t look good wearing them. Skinny jeans are designed for men with a VERY particular body type. Believe it or not the way you look in them is the least of your worries.

A study in English showed that half of the men wearing these trousers are developing health problems. There is a huge increase in discomforts, urinary tract infections, bladder infections, and even twisted testicles!

When picking your jeans you should consider the function of your pants as well as your health. Jeans were designed for cowboys, to move and ride freely while taking a beating. Skinny jeans go against this design making it almost impossible to run in. If you can’t fit a wallet into the pocket, how are you supposed to make a proper stride?

7 Reasons to Hate Skinny Jeans: 1. Skinny jeans can cause low sperm count. 2. They can increase the chances of urinary tract infection. 3. They literally twist your testicles. 4. Many men wearing them have the wrong body type. 5. The low rise of the inseam makes your torso look odd. 6. You can’t use your pockets. 7. Skinny jeans are an image of attraction, not an image of power.

Highlights:

  • Most men don’t look good in skinny jeans.
  • A study with 2,000 british men in tight jeans showed a lot of urinary tract infections, a lot of twisted testicls, and a lot of bladder weaknesses.
    • 50% of men had a growing discomfort.
    • 25% suffered from bladder problems.
    • 20% had a twisted testicle.
    • 25% wear them to prove they can still fit into them.
    • 40% wear them to be stylish instead of being comfortable.
  • Tight jeans lead to over activity of the bladder, resulting in infections.
  • Dr’s suggest you leave room for comfort so you aren’t being restricted in any way.
  • Function comes before fashion.
    • Skinny jeans make it harder to walk and run in.
  • Don’t put fashion and style above health.
  • Choose slim fit or straight instead

While people like this, who are deeply, passionately and artistically specialized in the work, are very expensive to work with, it can be worth it if the product is something you are deeply passionate about and have the money to invest in the experience of working with someone like this.

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode45 Most of us are taught from an early age not to be judgemental of others, and to let everyone live their own lives without our judgement. But the truth is that we all make split-second judgements about everyone we meet, the second we lay eyes on them. It’s simply human nature, and this immediate judgement is necessary in order for us to make sense of the world around us.

But knowing this trait about humans, it’s important that we realize this, and consciously make an effort to optimize that initial judgement being made of us, through our look, our mannerisms, our language, speech patterns, and more.

This episode is about the 5 ways I (and most people) make split-second judgements about people I see, and, as a consequence, what you can do to make that initial impression of you stronger, and what you want it to be.

Key Takeaways: * Everyone makes split-second judgments about you. They can’t help it * With this in-mind, your appearance and initial impression is incredibly important * People need to know that they are a priority to you * Open doors for people * Everyone will judge you based on their own shortcomings. The way we see other people is expression of ourselves

The 5-Ways I Judge You: 1. Punctuality 2. Preparation 3. Manners 4. Language 5. My own shortcomings

Mindset Takeaway: Because people will always make split-second judgements about you, be careful to think about and engineer what that split-second judgement will be

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode44 In the modern world, technology, especially in communications, has made it less and less necessary to actually meet people in-person for any reason. We can do anything we need to through skype, facetime, google hangouts, or another app, and we can even use these same apps to keep up with our friends and family.

But today’s episode is about why that is simply not enough! While practically speaking you can accomplish a lot of the same thing virtually, there are so many other aspects of what an in-person meeting does for a relationship that will be completely lost if we move further and further towards all-virtual meetings.

So make a habit of attending live events, meeting people in-person, and developing relationships in this way, to create more impact, speed up the process of learning about others, and forge deeper relationships.

Key Takeaways: * When your business is online, it’s easy to to let yourself spend more and more time alone. Resist it! * A local event builds a trusted network, and often a deeper relationship * Go to networking events, because it’s often easier to get time from a busy person when you meet them in person * When you put in the effort to show up to events, it will often lead to things you never would have guessed * When you meet people face-to-face, you can often accelerate the conversation by weeks or months, as compared to continuing an email conversation * Shared experiences with people go a long way in developing a relationship

Mindset Takeaway: Make an effort to go to live, in-person events on a regular basis, to develop new and deeper relationships.

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode39 In your style choices, you are either be playing defense or offense. Defense means playing it safe. Dressing the way that you normally dress. Wearing muted colors, wearing simpler accessories, and in general taking the route that you know will be very safe, but also not make any statements. While defense is important and powerful to your overall style strategy, a football team never won a game without putting at least a couple points on the board, right?

In this episode, we’re looking at what offense means for the stylish man. How can you do something that is just a little bit out of the ordinary in order to make a specific statement, and portray the image that you really want to portray. It could be in your accessories, whether it’s a pinky ring, or earrings, or perhaps it’s in the careful use of bright colors, rather than all muted tones. Perhaps it’s times to start regularly wearing a fragrance rather than just deodorant.

In general, defense means dressing to fit in, while offense means dressing to stand out. A careful understanding of how to do both will allow you to leverage each strategy when it is most advantageous. Don’t neglect offensive thinking in your overall style strategy!

Key Takeaways: * Most men are defensive when it comes to style, and think that defense will get them where they want to go in style * If you know how to strategically employ offense when it comes to style, you will be able to use it to your advantage * Too often, men dress to fit in, rather than dressing to impress with a specific message * Dress like the person that you want to be in the future. If you want to be a CEO maybe dress like a CEO * Most men only where deodorant, when an offensive strategy would be to wear a fragrance that sets you apart * Look at the ways that you can use color to actually draw strategic attention to yourself, and not just detract attention through all the normal colors * Wedding rings, conservative watches, and simple watches are all defensive style. Look into something that is a bit more headed toward personal adornment. Pinky ring, earrings, necklaces. All carefully * Understand that offensive style has the potential to offend very occasionally. Be cautious, but understand that it is part of the game * Simple patterns are defensive. You can pretty much wear as many patterns as you want, as long as they are not the same and right next to each other * Patterns allow you to use common colors, but in a unique way

Mindset Takeaway: Think about the ways that you are playing defense with your style currently, and the ways that you could be playing a bit of offensive in your choices.

If you don’t wear a watch, maybe start. If you do, look into a way to upgrade it. Same with other accessories 3. Start wearing a fragrance, used in moderation, instead of just deodorant. Think of it as an “invisible style accessory.” 4. Upgrade your shoes. Look into dress boots, maybe rugged. Just look into small steps that will upgrade your style without making a huge splash in your overall look 5. Get everything, including the clothes you already have, tailored to fit you personally

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode32 A lot of men don’t look quite a muscular and masculine as they would like. Some have a naturally skinny built, and it’s difficult to do much of anything about it. But you actually can change your perceived musculature and masculinity through a few basic tweaks in what you wear.

There are five specific tips, outlined below, that will go a long way. But through them all, one of the most important things to keep in mind is fit. Some people think that if you’re skinny, you should get looser fitting clothes to make you look bigger, but this is actually not the case! Looser fitting clothes accentuate the way the clothing drapes on you, causing you to look thinner and heading the wrong direction!

When a sports jacket or other clothing fits right, it gives the wearer the intended shape and look for the clothing, causing a much more masculine and well-built look in general. Use the below outlined five steps if you’ve always wanted to look bigger, but couldn’t seem to put on the muscle mass! There are ways to achieve a more masculine look, and that’s what I’m going over today!

General Takeaways: * Clothing can change the look and the silhouette of your body, and how muscular and masculine you are perceived * When you change your habits, it feels a bit strange at first, but work through it for the perception you want to give others

The 5-Tips: 1. Learn to love the long-sleeved shirt. If it’s hot out, roll your sleeves up to the elbow. Look for a strong collar to add a little weight to your neck 2. Blazers, sportcoats, and suit jackets. Jackets build up the shoulder, making you look stronger, and give you the V-shape 3. Learn to layer. More layers, done correctly and that fit you correctly, will give you a more built look 4. Use the horizontal line trick. Horizontal stripes make you look a bit stronger and bigger 5. Wear size enhancing textiles or fabrics, like flannels, tweeds, corduroys, and denim.

Mindset Takeaway: Use clothing and the 5-tips above to build up your perceived musculature and give you a stronger and bigger look.

The history of jewelry and men shows that for many years it was considered a signal of status to wear jewelry. It was a way to show people the status you possessed, and your importance, and there is certainly still some of this idea ingrained in humans. If worn with confidence, jewelry can still be a strong signal of status and importance.

But jewelry must still be approached with caution, and a full awareness of the situation, and the impression that you would like to make on those around you. There are certainly circumstances where wearing jewelry is appropriate, but there are also times when it would be a detriment to the impression that you would like to make. Listen to this episode to understand the difference, and avoid the 7 mistakes men make with jewelry!

7-Mistakes Men Make with Jewelry 1. They assume that jewelry is feminine 2. Not wearing it with confidence 3. Not paying attention to the situation. Understand your environment and whether it’s appropriate or not 4. Not taking the jewelry in for maintenance or doing it yourself correctly. Fix loose stones, etc 5. Over accessorizing. Either wearing too much, or not enough. Understand the situation, and what it calls for. Go for a clean balance 6. Showering or swimming with jewelry 7. Not choosing the best piece for you. Look at your skin tone, and proportion correctly for your overall body size

Mindset Takeaway: Understand that jewelry can be manly, and can show status and confidence if worn correctly. But always be careful of your setting and aware of the impression that you want to give, and whether jewelry is helping or hindering.

But men tend to be poor readers of body language, and that’s what this episode is all about: To teach you how to understand what is being silently communicated to you.

One practical step is to start to understanding that everyone has a baseline of posture and body-movement. Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode24 Not everyone knows that the dress-code for a night on the town, whether clubs or other places, is actually quite different than that for business activities. The set of requirements for clothing, and the functions that it serves, are quite different, and those differences are what this episode is all about, to ensure that you are well prepared to make a good impression in your off hours on the town.

One of the key points to take away from this episode is to have a full understanding of where you’re going, the type of venue, the people you’re going with, and the impression that you want to make on them. Knowing this, you can select an outfit that fits the needs, whether your shoes need extra traction for the dance floor, you need to be able to peel off layers of your outfit for the heat of the club, or any other set of circumstances you will often encounter in different types of settings.

In addition, understanding the impression you want to make is also important. While this is officially relaxing time, you should understand that you’re always making an impression on your peers and others, and your time off is no exception. Consider setting up bottle service beforehand to make a really stunning impression on your friends and those with you, if you are willing to invest in the experience.

Knowing how to dress and handle yourself for a night on the town is essential to making a good impression, and that’s what you’ll learn on this episode. So grab a pencil and paper (or pull up your notes app on your phone…) and get ready to learn on this episode of The Personal Image System!

Show Notes: RealMenRealStyle.com/Episode22 Many men often don’t put very much thought into their hair style. Their style is simply what they’ve always worn, perhaps how their parents did it for them, or how they’ve always done it. This a massive mistake, as their is a huge range of different stylistic and fashion statements that can be made with your hair, and your hair can have a real influence on the way you are perceived by others. To simply wear your hair a certain way because you always have is a waste of what could be a powerful influencing factor on your presentation.

Instead, take time to experiment with your hair! Find a good stylists who can try out some new looks, and allow yourself the freedom to do things you never have before! While experimenting and searching for new hair styles, use pictures of hairstyles that you like and would like to emulate to guide you on the path to the right one for you.

This episode is all about how you can use your hairstyle to positively impact the effect your personal presentation has on others. Don’t allow yourself to simply fall into your hairstyle, but rather make a conscious choice about your style, and use it to your advantage! Learn how you can do this and more on this episode of The Personal Image System Podcast!

Key Takeaways: * Hair is something that a lot of men don’t put a lot of thought into, but just keep with what they’ve always had * Instead of that, you should be purposeful about what you decide to do with your hair * Take time to experiment, find stylists who know what they’re doing, and try different things! * Look at pictures of men that are wearing their hair the way you want to, and model them. Having an end-goal helps a lot * If your hair is thinning, you probably want to at least consider shaving your head. Thinning hair is one of the weakest signals you can send * If you’re trying something radically different, spend time around people you don’t know as well, and you’ll probably find that they don’t think it’s extreme * Experiment with a lot of different products to find what you want. Focus on hold and shine * Hold is more important for longer hair, where they want it to do something specific * Shine tends to give your hair more of a formal look, no-shine is more natural

Mindset Takeaway: Don’t just do what you’ve always done with your hair. Take time to experiment and try new hairstyles, and while you experiment, have an end goa
