The weekly message from Gas Street, we are a church with a vision to be ‘Light for the City’. Lead pastors Tim and Rachel Hughes.
Before we can truly love others, we must first receive the love of our Heavenly Father. Our hearts were designed to be fulfilled by Him alone. Without a deep, personal revelation of God’s love, our identity remains incomplete. But when we encounter the Father’s love, we step into our true identity as secure sons and daughters, bringing life, not pain, to the world around us.
Tim shares a message on pentecost, where the Holy Spirit first descended on the disciples of Jesus.
Jesus is clear in Matthew 6 that there’s an expectation that his followers will practice Fasting; and yet so many of us don’t do it regularly. Rachel explores how the physical action of fasting brings about a spiritual reaction.
As followers of Jesus we are in a spiritual battle. We need to be ready and alert to stand strong in the challenges of life. Paul, in his letter to the church in Ephesus gives us so much in how to prepare and clothe ourselves for the battles ahead. Tim looks at the ‘armour of God’ and helps us see how we are to use it to enable us to stand firm.
The gift of tongues is a spiritual gift, given by God, to release us in prayer and worship. When we pray in tongues we are edified and built up. Through this gift we connect with God in prayer and amazingly are drawn into the mysteries of God. In this message, Tim biblically unpacks why we should eagerly desire this spiritual gift and what happens when we pray and sing in tongues.
Throughout our lives, both intentionally and unintentionally, we build up narratives about ourselves. Narratives built very often to answer the big questions: who am I? Am I worthy of being loved?
When we come into a relationship with Jesus Christ, we discover a beautiful new narrative written over us that we are God’s children, fully known and loved - but it is often hard to live out of that narrative that ‘we are what he has made us’ (Eph 2) and we are ‘delighted in’ (Zeph 3).
In Jeremiah 2 we hear the Lord saying,
‘They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.’
How do we allow God to rewrite the narrative over us, leave behind the ‘broken cisterns’ and discover the living water he has for us?
Ali unpacks what it might mean to have the narratives rewritten over us and the transformation that can bring in us, in our churches and the communities in which we live.
How do we cultivate resilient worship, praise in the valley? Nick Drake opens up Rev 1 to look at how we can draw from the facts of our faith and our relationship with Christ for our reasons to praise. Praise that doesn’t rely on emotion but intention.
Rachel explores the story of Abigail in 1 Samuel 25 and what we can learn from her remarkable sacrificial courage.
Tim Hughes shares an Easter message on the power of Jesus's resurrection and what the resurrection means for us.
When we think of judgement, we might automatically think of it negatively. But we see from our passage in Mark 14, that God’s judgement in Jesus is really good news and that we are lost without it. The rule and judgement of the Son of Man is the hope for our future, the grace for our past and the peace for our present. As we enter Holy Week and remember the events of the cross and the resurrection, be encouraged by the goodness of God’s judgement.
Tebo shares on how pride can take us away from all God has called us to be, and that living in humility is a way to draw closer to God.
What do you do when God doesn’t do what you expected Him to and you’re left feeling disappointed? Looking at the example of Jesus suffering in Mark 8, we see that when God isn’t meeting our expectations, He is exceeding them, and invites us to trust Him through the process.
When it comes to our treasure and resources Jesus teaches us that our outlook can either be one of abundance or scarcity. How can we become more like Christ, generous in every way; living with an abundance mindset?
As Tim continues to look at the vision of Gas Street Church he explores what ‘Faith for a city’ might look like. What could God do in our time, in our city? How might we best partner with him in seeing an awakening? How does worship and prayer unlock God’s kingdom in our midst?
If we want to step further into our God-given purpose, it is crucial that we identify the “lids” & the “limitations” in our lives, and the difference between them. Because God wants to break through the “lids” but work through the “limitations”.
The power of unexpected grace as Jesus calls Levi and how it leads to restored relationship with God and extraordinary influence. Nick explores Mark 2.13-17 and the extraordinary way Jesus moves the boundary of grace.
What does faith look like for us as individuals and as community? Faith is a mystery that seems to hold the key to so much of what Jesus says and does and in Mark 2:1-12 we discover the impact of the faith of a small community of faithful and faith-filled friends.
It’s an incredible story of healing and drama with a real-life encounter between a paralysed man and Jesus and there are universal principles we can unearth. We discover that God often uses other people to minister to us in our times of need. We learn about a faith that is expectant, generous, alive and real and see the whole story unfold because of a community’s faith.
Faith in Jesus unlocks forgiveness from Jesus.

In Ephesians Paul challenges us to pray at all times in all ways - but when we’re busy people with busy lives, how on earth can do that?! In this Worship for Everyone talk, Martha explores why we should pray and then offers some practical tips on how we can build prayer into our daily lives.
This is the final part of our 7-week journey following the travels of Paul the Apostle and we are ending in the mighty city of Rome. Paul is under house arrest for two years and could be frustrated by the limitations he is facing in his ministry - but he decides to write letters, including the letter we look at here: 2 Timothy. His limitation proves to be our incredible gift as we explore his words, story, teaching, wisdom and challenge.
With his parting words, Paul encourages his protege and fellow-worker Timothy to:
Keep his eyes on the prize
Keep his feet on the track
Keep going.
Ali looks at what that meant for Timothy and what that could mean for us today, how we might keep going in our own faith journey, grow in our discipleship, connect with others and encounter Jesus in order that we, too, might reach the finish line.
Nick Drake explores Acts 27 and what we can learn from Paul’s experience in navigating life’s storms. How we can look to Jesus even in the darkest night when all bearings seem lost.
Tebo Mpanza continues our series in Acts, sharing on the importance of community both in and outside of the church and its importance in aiding in our spiritual growth.
Sometimes being faithful to what Gods called you to do lands you in what feels like failure. Through the story of Paul and Silas in a Philippian prison we learn to rightly frame ‘failure’ and the important lesson that, with God, failure is never the final destination. We explore themes of success and faithfulness, as well as Gods sovereignty and eternity in Acts 16:16-32.
