The gospel is this: we are not loved because we are intrinsically lovely or because we have made ourselves worthy of love. We are loved because Jesus died for us when we were unattractive in order to make us attractive.
When we love others, and repent of our selfishness at the same time, we become more and more sincere in our love towards others and empty of our hypocrisy.

As we enter chapter 3 of Galatians, Paul begins to correct the church for coming into the family of God by faith, but leaving faith behind for their works in order to grow.
As we have begun in the Spirit, we will progress as believers by the Spirit. The just will live by faith. The entire Christian life is built on faith, not performance; this is the way it has always been, and there is no other way.

When we revise the gospel, we reverse the gospel. In Galatians 1:7-9 Paul lays down the plumb line for what the gospel is, and how it works.
Support the show (http://pushpay.com/pay/opendoornj)
One of the most obvious and overlooked facts about the historical context of Galatians is that Paul is writing to believers, who have deserted the message of the true gospel, for one that has mixed in performance-driven acceptance based on obedience to Mosaic Law.
Galatians is not only Bible evidence that legalism is possible in believers, it is evidence that it is common in believers.
Through our fleshly desire to be our own savior, and the hero of our own story we are primed to accept teaching that says, “God is pleased with you when you...”
“People who live in certain ways have a special anointing... or more power...”
We love these mystical messages that give us the ability to be higher than others, and worthy of salvation.
But these are fables that contain parts of the gospel, but ultimately have perverted the relationship with God that the gospel delivers to us.

By Judges 15 the life of Samson is a contradiction of God's blessing & spiritual power in a man who is impulsive, unteachable, and driven by his own fleshly desires.
Samson is living by the mantra, "As they did unto me, so have I done unto them..." In Samson we have the example of the lust of the flesh, so what does it mean to "walk in the Spirit", and how is it possible?

After the miraculous announcement of the birth of Samson in chapter 13, we would expect some incredible Judge to come ikon the scene & deliver Israel from its enemies. Instead we are left in the remaining chapters with a fleshly, impulse driven, sex addicted scoundrel who is unreachable and out of control.
Yet the perplexing truth is that God has chosen Samson, He will inevitably use Samson, He will work through His flesh & sin, and ultimate accomplish His will.
What can we glean from this bad example who is far more focused on his own giftedness, than the fruit that should be produced in his life?
We discover the Bible distinctions between gifts and fruit in this message from Judges 14:1-15:7.

Even with the presence of God's Spirit in us we are still capable of terrible things. This was the case of Jephthah. With his beliefs about God heavily influenced by the culture he was living in, he foolishly promised something he should never have.

As we continue out study through Judges, we see through the life of Gideon that God wanted Israel to be certain who it was that would receive glory for their victory. He knew that if their salvation was by their works, they would have cause to boast in themselves and not in Him.

God chose the nation of Israel to bring the Messiah into the world, and salvation to all people. He gave to them His Word, and the prophets to declare the coming of Jesus Christ in the world, but they chose to reject Him as Messiah. As we look at the Book of the Covenant in Exodus 20:22-24:8, we see a God that cares about How we Worship Him, a God that cares about how we treat others, a God that cares about what we do with our bodies, and a God that cares about our heart to obey Him.
