Made from super hard aerospace polymer, they are like Mini Skate Board Wheels with our oversized best in class Hybrid Ceramic Bearings inside.
We replaced the rim with a large heavy duty hybrid ceramic bearing for maximum spin and bearing durability. Those tiny wheelie bar wheel bearings commonly used just don't hold up to the rpm and 60+ mph crashes in no prep.

RC Tip Of the Week (brought to you by Colin)
Main Topic:
In my experience start with one of the preloaded tunes. Believe it or not Colin Branch and I made hundreds of hits trying to find a solid STARTING point to build from.
I am also a fan for first time hits to remove all turbo to keep things less complicated.
After that you have a few ways to go. You can begin increasing the first stage until you are spinning too hard on the hit or wheeling excessively.
Next I would begin shortening my stage delays in small amounts watching the data log and video for wheel spin.
Once I have tightened up my stages and got my first stage as high as feels solid for the car on the launch I will add the turbo.
For turbo I start with it at 100 percent throttle position and .1-.2 delay giving my battery pack a tiny bit more time to recover voltage before I start pouring in turbo timing. I use all 60 degrees and control it’s input from the slew. Start out with a very low slew like 2-4 and increase it every run as the data and mph allow. From there you can begin bringing the turbo in sooner, maybe go from starting the turbo at 100 to starting it at 90
Data from the logger, a GNSS and video are the tools for all these adjustments and if I was to give you a general rule for tuning it would be
Make small single adjustments
Make 60 foot hits the majority of your runs when testing.
Make 2-3 hits on an adjustment before determining if it helped or not.
When making adjustments and things like et or mph are increasing like you want the second they don’t you have hit the wall it’s best to back it off a tiny bit and you’ll have a solid car.

My question is for all three of you to discuss. Can you talk about what you do to prep a Reaction tire before mounting? Also after mounting is there anything else that you do before you say they’re ready to use?
Nat Hyde
Do you know of a reliable motor or chassis dyno to test under load conditions? Wouldn't that be better than using the SkyRC motor analyzer?
Sean Genung
Thank you for the opportunity to ask questions. Mine is with shocks. Specifically when building shocks do you want a dead shock like in oval racing with say a bladder on top like the 57 design setup or bleed them with some recoil? Thank you for your time and your knowledge.
Stephen A Nicholson Jr.
I know shortages on things have put a damper on some things but are y'all gonna eventually make a ESC that will handle more amps ? And yes I understand the one we have now is fine lol but who doesn't like more power

Was the throttle punch a little secret you guys were keeping? When Justin Shearer commented and said I don't run over 10%. Darwin Bohnke
From racing 1:1 and 1/10, what has been the biggest difference/hurdle you have had to deal with?
Andrew Burghgraef
Have any of you guys played with diff height? I'd think getting it as low as possible would help drive the tire into the ground like a radial car. And Tim, will we see you check out the Battlebots filming in Vegas later this month?
Kerry Adams
Just want to say hey chief and Colin ( my phone spelled it wrong last week) and hey Tim. The drawing of punch and how it effect the stages was very helpful.

Jon Mobley
Hey Tim and Colin so what are your thoughts on the drk esc on a so called top fuel dragster
David Adams
What do you think of a short wheel based no wheelie bar car? Everything else open to replace the 13.5T class. Like a 2wd buggy. (Pinto body maybe more to come?)
Why do I hear so much talk about rolling back the tire prep? Last summer I had people asking if I would care if they were using warmers and sauce. My take is you have to if others are. Now same people are talking about no warmers and sticky prep. Changing rules may bring more people (I don’t think it will) but the cat is out of the bag and the base will be resistant at this point. What do you think?
Chris Trudeau
Was it strange for Colin to make Left and Right turns and jumping stuff, vs going in a straight line this last weekend?
Mark Vyne
Tom had the VP and Breakout chassis haulin in Colorado. Some of the fastest builds of these two chassis. Your thoughts on the differences of two chassis and what you’ve learned from both.
Gabe Honodel
Tim and Colin will there be plans to break the speed record now that the technology has caught up a little. It would be cool to see Tim get the rail out again
Anthony Manti
I believe last weeks description said motor tuning would be discussed. I could have missed it, but I don’t think you guys got around to it.
Anthony Manti
Dumb question. How do I listen live? I only ever seem to get the cast after it’s been aired about a day later. I’m using the built in Podcast app for apple and I believe I tried Podbean as well.

Will there ever be drk 1/8 scale esc that will handle a 2.0t motor??
Chris Gilliland
Care to elaborate on the new method of suspension tuning you guys have been working?
Biggie Paul
How come u guys dont go live? You're very entertaining. So what if u have to wear pants....🤣🤣🤣. Have a great show.
Tim Barth

Shane Rennoe
Tim what tire prep were you using at the San Diego race
Wade Madfishdesigns Labofish
What was the weight on your speed run car that went 167?
Taylor DeLosa
What is your process and opinions, when testing the car; what all are you looking at? Not just the generic it spun, went left/right, etc. Are you chalking the wheelie bars to see where they touched down, marking tires to see how even they wear from alignment, etc. Then once you’ve gathered said data, what are you doing to correct these things.
Thank you Collin for adding to this podcast also, it’s great to hear your feedback as well.
Kevin Kenney
I know I'm not the same 1 or 2 guys that get questions answered every week so here goes. Can you explain more on the punch setting? Is it better to set up your stages and just lessen punch to get better traction when the surface can handle it? We have 5 guys running DRK160 and we are funding success all over the ramp on punch. I don't need secrets just hoping Colin can explain its effect throughout the powerband. Also if you "finger" the throttle is it starting the stages over?
James Gallatin
When are you getting your kart?

Kidd Sims
Now that we have two mega races in the books. What could I (as a mega race promoter) improve on to insure everyone has a great time.
Chris Gilliland
Track temps definitely played a role in traction for the event. How do you know when to turn it down?? Great meeting you finally!!
Willie Trent
Tim Smith with it being a concrete surface I think a lot of people expected to see some record times being ran but that didn’t exactly happen. I know the surface was good and had bite but was it also not as good as everyone expected? It looked really coarse and not as smooth as one would expect and seemed to being giving people trouble especially on the big end.
Kerry Adams
First I want to say that was an awesome weekend. Second I wish Matt could have been there to see those sub 2 second runs. I would have liked to see the look on his face. Question is now is everyone ready for Colorado in July?

Went no prep racing for my first time Sunday and now I'm hooked. First time I was right there with my car thanks to your show it went straight and fairly fast.
Ok now for my question:

Did you try stiffening up the rear suspension dampening for the added traction?
JC Myers
I have a question about tires at bracket races. How do you recommend handling tires between rounds? Do you clean and prep 1 set or do you ever swap tires to save time. I always end up scrambling between rounds. Thanks and Love the show!
Joe Zaier Jr
If the no prep cars are running the same times of a proper pro stock, what's the point of no prep? It seems like people are lighting money on fire for the sake of lighting money on fire. I'm just a spectator in this

Flash back to the dead pool car chase, Jay Halsey was the man behind the wheel of what is still one of the most iconic chase scenes in movie history. 'The Dead Pool' was a 1988 crime film starring Clint Eastwood. A modified RC10 with lowered suspension was used with a 1963 Chevy Corvette body, and ultimately was blown up at the end of the scene. The filming was iconic and the scene is still super cool to watch to this day!

SSI-065 SIMPLE SOLDERING IRON 89.99
The Maclan Racing SSI series soldering iron is one of the best tool investments a racer can make. The iron is light weight, compact, and designed for high heat performance with superb safety features. This soldering iron will operate from 12V to 24V DC power. We recommend using 6S Li-Po battery for the best performance as the iron will heat to 840°F (450°C) in just about 10 seconds.
The built-in safety features will automatically cool the iron to 400°F if it’s not moved for 3 mins and will completely shut off power and go into standby mode after 6 mins of idle time. The OLED screen displays iron status and adjustment information. All parameters can be easily and quickly adjusted by the buttons on the handle.
SSI-065 Features:
• MCU control and program for precise temperature and safety control
• Maximum 840+°F (450°C) temperature for RC applications
• OLED display for easy reading status
• Portable size and light weight for easy transportation to race events
• Maximum 65W output with 24V power input
• Built-in safety parameters to protect battery voltage and soldering iron tip lifespan
• CE & FCC certified

There was about 205 drivers total
Several young kids slaying fast cars left and right(Chevelle and Kayden)
The surface was better then it looked and the shut down was really not an issue
The weather was as bad as I would ever want to see, it was nearly not tolerable.
They got everything done in time, I have to credit both the team of people running the race and the drivers who all go up there and didnt mess around.
It was on all accounts a success and we were told next year would be a three day event so that more people can go and race without the time limits.
The thing I tried to make clear to all our team guys was that an event like this though we all want to win it we must all take a few minutes to truly enjoy what we are able to be a part of, the memories and fun.
Finally I want to thank the people and companies that allow me to have an experience like this. MaxAmps, for years of support that has been measurable.

Proline and the mass exodus, what is going on?
Well remember when Horizon bought out Hobbico? Proline is part of that deal and if you were paying attention when they announced it you would know that some folks have already had a run with Horizon and don’t seem to feel the brand has anything for them anymore.
Could we be seeing the final days of real money contracts for RC drivers? You better offer more than just your ability to wheel if you plan to make a living off this industry. Things are changing and even though the players are young they are believing that the old requirements to get a check in RC are the same and I am sorry to tell you they are not.
RC Word Of the Week
Contract: An agreement between private parties creating mutual obligations enforceable by law. The basic elements required for the agreement to be a legally enforceable contract are: mutual assent, expressed by a valid offer and acceptance; adequate consideration; capacity; and legality.

ET is off by about .15 but mph is on the money.
**Body battle: Malibu, Vette, IROC
IROC: Until this body came out the Vette was my choice for over all speed and aero dynamic smoothness but this one changes that and for me the IROC is the body to run if you have a 70 mph no prep car.
Vette: it looks aero dynamic and guess what it is, this body was the fastest body in the group averaging 1 mph faster speeds over the other two. The downside is this body likes to fly if you get the car just the tiniest bit sideways during braking, something I seem to do way too often due mostly to having to run on a spot with a short shut down area causing me to get into the brakes too hard too soon.
Malibu: boxy but flat sides make it stable going down the track and a tiny bit better during braking over the Vette

Tim Notes:
Testing: More of the same if not even better.
UC car: solid, A to B over and over. I did pull out too much slipper at the end of the day and causes it to get wild on the hit.
VP: Solid, what a pleasure it is to drive this car.
The wheelie bar is AWESOME
Told to make a link adjustment and it just made the car even more consistent.
JC belted were awesome
Tire prep is on point.
Bodies, the vette… I got it figured out so I don’t fly it in the air every run but it still feels a bit sketchy during breaking if you don’t go light on the breaks
The Malibu, I have no idea if this body is poor aerodynamically but on the track it’s the most stable thing I have ever run. It does have a blunt nose but the sides are pretty flat and the hood, roof and decklid are flat and allow for a larger amount of air flow which will make downforce.
Switched the vette off the VP and put the Malibu on,
UC gets the Cuda
Magnets all around!! This is the best way to mount a body for SO with tech and BS

Fighting and tire marks….
No prep perp, Now what?
Do friends need to fight for this to be fun?
Tire prep do we need to go over this whole thing again?
The track should have addressed those marks as soon as they were seen, to let them go and not expect people to want to stage in them is silly and this is what you end up with.
This is why the simple rule of no marks on the surface works so well, Clean them prep them whatever but have them dry and do a burn out on a carpet.

Arrow talk….
So, it works wide and then it doesn’t… WTF
Before we go down the Arrow timeline let me make it clear, I have set up MANY race cars I know a couple of people have had success with them but I should point out a few things not to knock them down but to remove this any doubt I didn’t start in RC yesterday. The issue is I am a trier and don’t like to be defeated, it would have been VERY easy to put this car on the shelf and never touch it again but I knew something was wrong and I wanted to know what it is…
It feels like it’s all going away from me, like I am standing on a dock in a bay as the ship slowly pulls out. Do I jump in and swim for it before it gets too far away or just let it sail?
Lets go down the list of things I have done, sort of an Arrow timeline
Got the car long before anyone else and boy was a shocked… it was thin and flexible… Boo
Started changing everything but really needed a thick chassis.
Got a thick chassis and it worked wide,
Then I went for a narrow car…. Where did it go and why do I have everything breaking now?
Had to re-find the car when I finally went back wide, and the car worked….
Where the issues really are……… First run brass hubs might have been all my issue.
Diff going locked to 200K, tire rubs, all these problems….
13.5 class, it looks fun and I really didn’t think I would build anything for it but guess what? The Vega body came out and now I am building one…..
Motor, 3D printed from Monster RC parts
Exhaust (where to put it)
lights (I am getting out of control)
Still need to figure out a rear spoiler
Going scale is NOT cheap…… Well if you go scale like I go scale….
Magnets the worlds greatest body mounting system (12 lbs for the win)
And I managed to bust up the 13.5 so that should tell you something about my street and this Arrow car…. The street is just simply off limits I must realize that.
ROAR motors…. Why do we have to deal with this…
I must find a place to test or I will never get up to speed.
Vanishing point car (MIP B5 trans case)
Undercover car, both associated based. (all B6 parts) I am hoping to see them SOON! Please dear lord.

The chassis likes Rake
Slipper and transmission (locked diff “no more leaking diff..) Built a new transmission and things are better... weird.
The slipper… I don’t even want to talk about it but here goes. It’s a VTS Revolution slipper an so far its worked for me but I am not sure any slipper wouldn’t have worked it was the first I tired.
Thank you to Troy and James for so much help and guidance.
When I went to Az it was to learn and man did I ever, plus all these guys were very open to helping. James has been nothing but help with ideas and very open to what he is doing and what’s worked (friend?). I can’t thank him enough for the help and Troy for encouraging me to try a slipper.
Tire warmers, oh BOY those guys use them and now I see why! The benefits of using one are higher then the cost to me.
Tire gluing machine is wonderful, now that I have used it a few times its pretty great.
Found some new wheels I really like that have massive offset (proline f11)
Belted tires and my battle with the car wanting to turn left at halftrack. My bodies are too low.
I did score over 47k views on the video of my care spinning down the track, but I also learned what the heck is going on with my car. Made Gabe’s day… some people…..
Can I run non belted again? I am not sure, but I hope so.
I do love that I feel good inside that I have a solid game plan for the car each run. I know I am at the beginning, but it feels closer.
MaxAmps 4750 Graphene shorties are so great I often over look what I have in battery power!

Do we need to build a dyno yet?
No More Street Hits!
Car weight is 2060 grams with all the brass add on and the thick chassis. 2300 with a body
What body, I am not in love with the Shark at all and if my wife had not made such a big deal about how she loves it I would have already tossed it, But I want to run a real looking car so now what?
What do we have to pick from?
Its Finally a RACE CAR! That took a while for me to come around on but I am here, so much so I put stickers on my chassis and when I do that its because I see it as a race car now.
The track vs no prep, is track racing dead? Well it kind of was but now with Covid and all the fun of manufactures making parts for no prep (never for track cars) track drag racing was just passed up like it always has been. Long days and high cost to win what a plaque at best?

I ran the DB10 and it wheelies a lot so I learned something about roads, flat vs crowns and wheelie cars vs driver cars. So much being learned every time I go out and this is 100% the reason I wanted to get to racing even if I really am not at a level to win anything.
The DB10 was a cone lover…..
I did run the Arrow after the event had wrapped up and made about 15 hits in a row. Some good mostly bad BUT it seems to be working now with smaller front shocks.

Glitch
Otherwise known as radio interference, a glitch refers to a momentary lapse in signal transmission. There are external sources that cause glitches, (like overhead power lines,) but consistent glitching is most likely the result of something in the vehicle itself, such as metal-to-metal rubbing as you might find with control linkages.

Break-In
A new nitro engine has to go through a break-in procedure to mate the engine’s piston to the cylinder sleeve. This provides a longer life expectancy between rebuilds. Recommended procedures will vary by manufacturer and engine. Generally, an engine will need to be run rich and at no more than half throttle for the first 2-3 tanks of fuel. The entire procedure can consist of anywhere from 3-5 tanks of fuel, depending on the individual engine’s instructions.
