And everybody, if you have not had an opportunity to listen to that episode, it's available in The Anchor Pointe Podcast feed and then also at theanchorpointe.com website on the Audioburst page. And yes, this is the final episode of Anchor Pointe before we take our summer break. And then after our summer break, a new season of The Anchor Pointe Podcast will begin on Friday, September 22nd, with new season two episodes released every other Friday.(02:00):You can make sure that you don't miss any Anchor Pointe podcast episodes by subscribing to The Anchor Pointe Podcast wherever you get your podcasts. First and probably most important, Anchor Pointe's going to remain a faith and fitness podcast, helping all of us baby boomers increase our faith, stay fit, stay healthy, stay happy, and live a long life. That'll continue to be the overriding mission of The Anchor Pointe Podcast, and we're going to continue to feature important content in all of the seven elements of the Anchor Pointe disease-fighting and fitness model, faith, diet, exercise, attitude, guided meditation, music and research. And new beginning with the new episodes in September, thinking about exploring and talking about our faith will play an even larger part in each episode. Perhaps as much as half of each week's podcast next season will be devoted to faith.(03:51):And this other cool change, I'll be adding a new segment, especially for us older folks, baby boomers. Interesting stories from back in the '50s and '60s, focusing on our history, music and the arts. The new segment will be called Recollections, and I'm going to preview one of those new recollections segments a little later in today's episode. And for next season, because I want to make sure that each episode has valuable content about our faith, our fitness, our overall health, because of that, we're going to change the podcast release schedule to have a new episode released every two weeks. That new schedule of an episode dropping every two weeks will help me ensure that every episode of Anchor Pointe has new and meaningful content. Three significant changes for next season. Faith gets an upgrade. The Recollections segment. And new episodes will drop every two weeks, beginning on September 22, 2023.(05:29):All right. Let's talk about today's episode. Our Medical News for Seniors segment today will feature information on dealing with those medications that most of us take every day. And as I mentioned, later in the podcast today, I'm going to do a preview of the new Reflections segment, and we'll also talk today about preventing falls, one of the leading causes of injuries among us baby boomers. And then for a couple of minutes later in the podcast, Messages in the Bible.

Welcome to the Anchor Point, your faith and fitness podcast for us older folks in our fifties, sixties, seventies, and beyond. Now this is your April 28th, 2023 episode. And by the way, this is the first of three remaining episodes before we take a summer break. But don't worry, we will be back with an all new season of the Anchor Point Podcast this September(01:05):On today's episode. Music and Exercise, how music can Be a Motivator for Exercise. Music is one of the seven elements of the anchor point, disease, fighting and fitness model, faith, diet, exercise, positive attitude, guided meditation research, and the element we're gonna feature on today's episode. Music. I was at the Pacific Ocean last week and I want to share with all of you some of my thoughts about the ocean and that'll be coming up later in the podcast today and also later A Father's love. First up though, I wanna spend just a couple of minutes talking with you, with our listeners about where we are right now at this point with the Anchor Point Podcast and my plans for next season and what's more boring, I guess, than a podcaster talking about his podcast instead of delivering important content, right? Well I think most of our regular anchor point listeners might be interested in this next short segment, but if you don't want to hear about my thoughts for the podcast, what you can do right now is go ahead and skip to the seven minute 55 second mark and that's where we'll start medical news for seniors and the rest of today's podcast as we bring season one of the Anchor Point Podcast to a close with the May 12th episode two take some time to let you all know what I'm planning for Anchor Point season two, which will begin with the Autumn Equinox on Friday, September 22nd.(03:09):The Equinox actually happens on Thursday the 21st, but Anchor Point releases new episodes on Fridays. So that first episode of the Anchor Point Podcast season two will happen on September 22nd, 2023. That's a Friday season, one's not over yet. We have two more all new episodes next week and and then the following week, next week's episode will be a special guided meditation episode. And yes, I uh, officially changed the name of the Positive imagery element of the Anchor Point Disease Fighting and Fitness model. I changed the name of that element to guided meditation cause that's what it really is. You spending some time with yourself, relaxing, refreshing and thinking as you're guided through a 20 to 30 minute meditation session. So next week, guided meditation and that episode will be called The Soltice and I think you're really gonna enjoy it. I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about and praying about the direction of next season's Anchor point.(04:33):I had kind of a brainstorming session with myself, reached out to some listers who have emailed me with suggestions over the past couple of months with their help. I've decided on the direction of next season's Anchor Point episodes. First and probably most important anchor point will remain a faith and fitness podcast. I'm gonna try to keep each episode around 30 to 45 minutes, but three big differences for next season. Helping all of us baby boomers increase our faith, stay fit, healthy, happy,

It's been over three weeks since we last talked, meaning this will be a very full episode of the Anchor Point Podcast today,(01:05):And I'm so happy that even during our break, new listeners are continuing to join the podcast listening to episodes we've already produced. Anchor Point has listeners from everywhere, not just in the United States, but all over the world, listeners looking to increase their faith, fight disease, get and stay healthy, and live a long, active, healthy, and happy life. Originally, this was going to be a SL and rans episode, but as I started to put the episode together, I realized two of the topics I wanted to discuss with you were pretty important in our battle to stay healthy and fight off disease instead of slants and rants. On today's episode, journaling for Good Health and a Battle plan that you might be interested in that I used for fighting and winning a cancer battle. You've been diagnosed with the disease. What's the plan going forward? And we have four Anchor point episodes to go before we end season one of the Anchor Point Podcast on May 12th. I've already started to make plans for next season's episodes, which will begin in September and wanted to share some of my thoughts about Anchor Point season two with you on the podcast today and perhaps get some feedback as I began to set the direction for season two. Before we get to all that though, let's start today with anchor points medical news for seniors.(03:12):New research from the University of Edinburg in the UK has discovered specific areas of the brain that may be damaged by high blood pressure and linked to the development of dementia. The studies have shown that high blood pressure hypertension can severely impact the blood vessels in your brain leading to those vessels being reshaped. Those studies have shown that high blood pressure hypertension can severely impact the blood vessels in your brain leading to those blood vessels being reshaped. High blood pressure also causes hardening and then the development of clogged arteries within the brain. When blood pressure is elevated, the increased pressure is transmitted from those larger blood vessels to smaller ones in the brain causing them to not function properly and creating a condition known as small vessel disease and dementia. High blood pressure damages the white matter in our brains. This all continues to highlight the importance for us older folks to monitor and manage our blood pressure levels to prevent damage to the white matter in our brains associated with dementia. Some of the factors increasing your risk for developing high blood pressure and unhealthy diet, obesity, inactivity, smoking, alcohol, the anchor point, medical news for seniors. Headline for today, no, and monitor your blood pressure and take action to eliminate your risks.(05:05):Those actions to keep your blood pressure under control are all within the seven elements of the anchor point, disease,

Hi everybody, and welcome to this end of March 2023 episode of The Anchor Pointe Podcast. Anchor Pointe, the Faith and Fitness podcast for us older folks in our 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond. We are all working together here, combining our faith and our fitness to help us live long, happy, and healthy lives. And we do that by working hard at the seven elements of The Anchor Pointe, disease, fighting and fitness model. Those seven elements; faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, music and research. And it is that element of research, we'll be focusing on today's episode. I'm recording the podcast today from the XBHS Radio Printers Alley Studios here in Nashville, Tennessee, and thank you so much everybody for pushing the play button on this March 31, 2023 episode of The Anchor Pointe Podcast. Let's start today's episode like we do almost every episode of Anchor Pointe, with medical news for seniors. You all know this, us older adults, we are disproportionately affected by chronic conditions and diseases, heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases, bone and joint issues, diabetes, the list just goes on and on. Nearly 80% of older adults have at least one of these conditions, lots of folks have two or more. On top of all that, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among us baby boomers. And that fear of falling some of us have, sometimes that fear of falling will cause people to limit their activities, which can actually result in more falls. Research has shown it's a mistake to stay away from physical activity because of the fear of falling. Not being active, because of a fear of falling, well, that can lead to further physical decline, depression, social isolation, and more falls. It's just so important that us seniors, so important that we prepare to do battle with these chronic conditions, with falls and these diseases out there just gunning for us older folks. We need to stay active. According to the physical activity guidelines for Americans, older adults should do two types of physical activity to improve their health, aerobic or heart rate training and muscle strengthening. These guidelines recommend older adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity each week and then muscle strengthening activities on two or more days per week. So today's medical news headline, physical activity, exercise, combined with watching your diet, a strong faith, a positive attitude, practicing relaxation and positive imagery techniques, music and research. Those things, which just happened to be the seven elements of The Anchor Pointe disease fighting and fitness model are your prescription for a long, happy and healthy life. Those statistics about the health problems us older folks face, a little depressing,

Welcome to The Anchor Point, the Anchor point, your faith and fitness podcast for, for us older folks in our fifties, sixties, seventies and beyond. January's gone and we're halfway through February of this exciting new year of 2023.(01:06):I'm so happy right now because many of you have decided to join me in making 2023 your year of faith and fitness and health improvement. It has seven elements, faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, music, and the element we're going to focus on today research. Before we get started today, I wanted to thank those of you who took the time to email me about the short interval training heart rate training workout, which was part of last week's episode.(02:25):Some of you were able to go all out and, and complete the workout. Many of you enjoyed the opportunity to learn about and practice heart rate training, and a lot of our listeners are going to add heart rate training to their fitness routine. If you want, you can download that workout from the AudioBurst page of the anchor point.com website, and that way you can practice the workout, do the workout anytime you want. Several of the emails I received were asking me about additional information on how to measure your heart rate and, and then how to track it while doing the workouts. As I, I mentioned on the episode last week, I prefer and, and I actually think it's easier to just listen to my body and then let my body tell me which heart rate zone I'm exercising in. There are though more exact ways you can determine your individualized heart rate for each of the training zones and then measure it during your workout.(03:39):So in answer to all of those of you who emailed me, I've decided to make next week's episode all about measuring and tracking your heart rate while exercising that episode, focusing on measuring and then tracking your heart rate while exercising. It'll drop next Friday. Also, on that episode, we'll talk about, and I'll review some of the fitness devices out there that are designed to measure and track not only your heart rate, but also your overall health and fitness. That's next week, Friday, February 24th on the Anchor Point Podcast, and then everybody the following week, March 3rd, that Anchor point episode will be a standalone 25 minutes heart rate training workout, a special all workout episode of The Anchor Point Podcast March 3rd. I'll talk more about that on next week's episode and one more response to an email. One listener notice that I changed the anchor point opening theme song first to that one listener. Hey, everybody, welcome to the Anchor Pointe, your faith and fitness podcast, the podcast for us older folks in our fifties, sixties, seventies, and beyond, working together to live long, happy, and healthy lives. Thank you everybody for pushing that play button and punching up this episode of the Anchor Pointe podcast. I'm not recording this episode downtown at the XBHS Radio Studios in Nashville. Instead, this podcast episode is being recorded today at my Skip's voice home studio here in the quaint little Nashville suburban town of Nolansville, Tennessee. Nolansville sits right here on the southeast corner of the Music City. We had some technical problems last week with the anchorpointe.com website and also with the Anchor Pointe podcast feed. Many of you took the time to email me last week and let me know that you were having trouble downloading and listening to your weekly episode of the Anchor Pointe podcast.(02:15):I'm happy to say that's all been fixed now. Everything's working great, not only at theanchorpoint.com website, but also the Anchor Pointe podcast feed is up and running. The article's purpose is to give tips for cancer survivors to help them during stressful times. Of course, all of us, not just cancer survivors, need to do everything we can to eliminate stress from our lives. So here are some stress reduction tips from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to help us deal with stress. I've also added a couple of suggestions on my own. The first tip to help with stress, physical activity. Listeners to this podcast constantly hear me talk about how important physical activity is to improve not only your physical quality of life, but also your mental quality of life. Exercise is such a great stress reducer. The second tip, make sure you are sleeping right. Not getting enough sleep can lead to poor physical and mental health.(04:10):You should try to plan for a consistent bedtime and a consistent wake-up time. By the way, keep those electronics out of the bedroom. Another tip to help reduce stress, make sure you are listening to your body. If you notice any new or strange symptoms that start to appear, don't ignore them, don't continue to worry about them. Contact your doctor. It's so important, everybody, at our age to make sure we keep our doctor informed with information about what's going on with our body. If something doesn't feel right, don't sit around worrying about it. Let your doctor know about it.

Anchor point today is being recorded at the X B H S radio printers Alley Studios here in the music city, Nashville, Tennessee, the city of Nashville. On today's Anchor Point podcast episode, we're going to focus on the music element of the Anchor Point disease, fighting and fitness model. We're gonna look at how music can improve our mood, reduce stress, lessen anxiety, and how music improves our overall health and wellbeing. Up first though, like it is on every anchor point episode, medical News for seniors. Today's medical news for seniors comes from the North Shore University health system in Chicago. Researchers have shown that music can benefit our physical and mental health in so many different ways. And today's anchor point episode is all about that music element, the importance of music and the arts in helping you stay healthy and fight off disease.(04:13):As I was putting this episode together today and thinking about music, it occurred to me when doing the Anchor Point podcast production, I use music to move us from one segment of the podcast to another, and I enjoy using music to set the tone, set the mood, or reinforce things I'm trying to say, music is just so powerful the way it affects our mind. For some of us, a particular song could take us back to the exact moment we knew we were in love. Certain songs can cement important events, both happy and sad into our memories as we try to get and stay healthy. It's important we do everything we can to reduce stress, and that includes being active, eating, healthy,

This is your faith and fitness podcast designed especially for us older folks, baby boomers in our 60s and 70s and beyond, working together using the seven elements of the anchor pointe disease fighting and fitness model. Those seven elements, faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, research and music. On the Anchor Pointe Podcast, we use those seven elements to stay healthy, to fight off those diseases that are out there just gunning for us older folks. Our ultimate goal, to live a long, happy and healthy life.(01:17):This is, everybody, a little bit different episode today. I've titled it Genesis, and my plan with this episode is to go back in time and give you, especially some of our new listeners, some insight into why I started this podcast in the first place and how faith and fitness is just so important to us older folks, as we all navigate through life here in our senior years. I started this podcast back in May of 2020. I started it because there had been a major change come about in my life. Cancer had attacked me and tried to take me out. That experience was the beginning of Anchor Pointe.(02:07):I called the podcast, when I started it, Web Radio Today and then late last year I changed the name to Anchor Pointe. I think it so much better describes what we do here on the podcast. We are putting an anchor point in place as we focus more on our faith and fitness. Yeah, that year, 2020 was a strange year for most of us with Covid and everything that was going on. However, I kind of view it as an awesome year for me because what came to destroy me brought me back to God.(02:50):Spend some time with me now, the genesis of Anchor Pointe, the story of my experience with cancer. It talks about how Anchor Pointe was started, but most importantly, it's my testimony, and then I'll be back at the end of the episode to talk with you about next week's episode.(03:12):I am going to start my cancer story on December 24th, 2019. It begins on Christmas Eve in Columbus, Ohio. I was in Columbus to celebrate Christmas with my daughter and her family and my wife's family. What a wonderful evening. Everybody together, few of these people I only see them once a year, but I love them all and we're all thinking, "What a great year 2020 is going to be." All of us looking forward to exciting things in the new year, especially because my daughter, Diana, is going to have another baby in May, a new grandchild, wonderful.(04:14):You know, everybody, thinking about that night, looking back on it now, it's funny and I was thinking that you really know nothing about the future. No way that you can predict what's ahead. You really only can say hey, today's pretty good. Tomorrow's looking okay, but beyond that, we know nothing about our future.(05:05):Little did I know on December 24th, 2019 that there was a pretty good chance that I wouldn't be around on Christmas Eve 2020. During the last few months of 2019, I was having some, what I'm going to call, old man problems, needing to get up too many times at night to use the restroom. So I was pretty happy there on that Christmas Eve I was looking forward to January 16th, 2020. I was scheduled to have an appointment with a urologist and to get this problem,

Hi, everybody from Nashville. I'm Skip Oram, and this is the Anchor Point podcast. Hi, everybody from the Nashville Studios of the X BHS Radio Network. I'm Skip Oram, and this is the November 11th, 2022 episode of the Anchor Point Podcast. This is Veterans Day today in the United States. So let me give a quick shout out and a thank you for your service to all of my fellow veterans listening to Anchor Point today. Anchor Point is the Faith and Fitness podcast with the goal of helping us older folks, baby boomers, in their sixties and seventies and beyond, stay faithful, stay fit, and live alone, healthy, happy life. Just a quick reminder that the Anchor point disease, fighting and fitness model has seven elements, faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, music and research. We focused a lot on the positive imagery element over the last several episodes, and then last week we moved into the diet element and we're gonna continue to focus on that diet element on today's episode. (01:26): A few days ago, I was thinking about this month of November, and so I started going through my music library to search any songs about November. What I found is I went through my iTunes library that there are quite a few songs about November, and some of them are pretty good, but almost all of them are, well, they're sort of downers and I really want us to think of the month of November in a more positive and uplifting way because after all, having a positive attitude is one of the seven elements of the anchor point disease, fighting and fitness model. Everybody, I think that we should move through this month of November thinking of it as a month of blessings, healing, and renewal. Let's do this. Let every drop of November rain and especially the November snowflakes, remind us of people in our life past and present who we'd love so much. I think November is like sitting in a theater. The orchestra's tuning up, A hush coming over the crowd, the lights are darkening. Can't you feel the anticipation? Our next act is about to begin. Something wonderful is going to happen to us. November is the prelude. I want you all to have a great November everybody. (03:38): This is anchor point's medical news for seniors. The four hidden dangers from sugar. Every older adult needs to know, and we're focusing specifically on added sugar. That's sugar that's either added by you or by the manufacturer. Think table sugar, brown sugar, agave, corn syrup, honey, molasses, danger number one, it's loaded with calories, but those calories are useless. They have no nutritional benefit. Danger number two, sugar's harmful effects get worse with age. Since we're older, it's more difficult for our bodies to burn calories, so why do we wanna add useless calories with sugar? All that does is make our efforts to stay at a healthy weight that much more difficult. And as we get older, our bodies become less effective at regulating sugar in the bloodstream and high levels of sugar in our bloodstream can damage organs in our bodies danger. Number three, listen to this. Sugar intake can shorten your lifespan and danger. Number four, eating sugar is habit forming. The more you eat, the more you want. Sugar can kill you, everybody, and that is your anchor point. Medical news for seniors for today, (05:22):
Sugar, it really can kill you everybody. Excessive sugar consumption, it plays a role in so many chronic diseases and besides it just messes with how we...

Speaker 1 (00:00): This is the XBHS Radio Network. Skip Orem (00:03): Hi, everybody. From Nashville, I'm Skip Orem, and this is the Anchor Pointe Podcast. Hi, everybody. From the Nashville Studios of the XBHS Radio Network, I'm Skip Orem. Welcome to this late October episode of the Anchor Pointe Podcast. It feels like time's flying. Halloween this weekend and then November begins as we almost get ready to head into the 2022 holiday season. Well, perhaps we better not get too far ahead of ourselves. I was thinking about this season of Autumn, about the month of October. Later in October, some folks think, "Well, the leaves are gone. Everything's dying. Winter is coming." It's a negative way to look at things, but I read this quote and it puts a much more positive spin on Autumn. (01:12): It's from a book titled The Cafe of Lost Youth. That's a pretty inviting book title, don't you think? The Cafe of Lost Youth, written by Patrick Modiano. He's a French writer. The book's written in French. This English translation, it might not be totally true to the original writing, but I like it. Perhaps you will too. Let me put some music under it and read this very short positive take on Autumn. I hope it brightens your day just a bit. "For me, Autumn has never been a sad season. The dead leaves and the shorter days have never suggested the end of anything, but rather an expectation of the future. There is electricity in the air on October evenings at night fall. I don't feel low with that hour of the day, nor do I have the sense of time flying by. I have the impression that everything is possible. The year begins in the month of October." (02:41): And I want to thank you all so much for the positive comments and emails. I do read and answer and really appreciate each and every email that you all send to me. My email address is skip@theanchorpointe.com. And just a quick reminder, theanchorpointe.com, our website, is the textbook for the Anchor Pointe Podcast and I hope that you will take the time and visit the website at least once a week. Charlotte (00:00): This is the XBHS Radio Network. Skip Orem (00:03) Hi, everybody from Nashville. I'm Skip Orel, and this is the Anchor Point podcast. (00:12): Hey everybody, I'm Skip Orel and welcome to the October 7th, 2022 episode of the Anchor Point Podcast. Baby Boomers working real hard on our faith and on our fitness. It's amazing to think that it's October already since I relocated to the Nashville, Tennessee area about 10 years ago. Since that time, May and June, and then September and October are now my favorite months of the year, at least weather wise with comfortable temperatures and, and just beautiful blue skies. At the end of last month on September 30th, I finished the prostate Cancer 108 Mile Challenge finishing with 180 miles. And I wanna thank everybody, all my friends who, who donated to that fundraiser. Every dollar that you donated, it's being matched at a hundred percent. And thank you so much. It was just so much fun and such an honor to complete running those 180 miles during the month of September. (01:25): Such a worthwhile cause raising money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Looking out at the beautiful blue skies here in Nashville today, it makes me realize that God, he did a pretty good job when he was imagining and then creating the autumn season. This entire university created such a masterpiece the way the seasons they come and go right on time every year, just about the time summer's ending, we seem to be ready and, and can't wait for fall. It's that way for, for every season changed for me. And while we all have our favorite seasons, we're still pretty much ready for the next one to come along when it's time. I don't know about you, but if I start to think about this miracle of creation too much, it gets my head spinning among many other things. He is, God certainly is the supreme architect. (02:30): Just a quick reminder, everybody, that that, while these main Anchor point podcasts like today's are released on Friday during the next several weeks, I'm going to be releasing Guided Imagery episodes on Wednesdays. I have several of these old web radio today guided imagery sessions and I've been cleaning them up and, and turning them into anchor point guided imagery sessions, and I want to get them out to you all as soon as possible so they will appear in the Anchor Point podcast feed on Wednesdays. While I was doing the Web Radio Today podcast, those standalone guided image sessions along with the standalone workout episodes, they were the most popular of all of the episodes. And then next week, when we start going through each of the seven elements of the Anchor point disease, fighting and and fitness model, I'm gonna start with that guided imagery element. Now, to make sure that you get every anchor point episode when it's released, please subscribe to the Anchor Point podcast. You can subscribe to this podcast from the anchor point.com website. You can also subscribe from wherever you get your podcast. Anchor Point is on all of the major podcast platform, iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, Outcast, and Google Podcasts, just to name a few regular episodes released every Friday. Close your eyes and begin to let yourself relax. And as you let yourself relax, began to take some deep breaths and then let them out. Deep breaths in, then exhale. Deep breaths in, and then exhale. As you do this deep breaths in and then out, began to clear your mind. Let all of the tension in your body, the bad thoughts in your mind, let them go out, let them go away as you breathe out with the exhale. The worry and the concern that you're feeling about your illness, try to clear that out of your mind as you breathe in and then out. Of course, this illnesses, it's on your mind all the time. It's a fact of life right now. Today, you're going to take control of this sickness. And you're choosing right now to breathe out all of your worries, blow them away with your exhale. Deep breaths in, tension, bad thoughts, and worry out. Think for a second about something that the Apostle Paul wrote long ago. He wrote it to the Christian Church in the Greek city of Philippi. He wrote these words, "Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is an excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Think about these things now, as you began to clear your mind of everything else. Breathe in and then out. Let's begin with this prayer from Psalms. "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, oh Lord. You are my rock and my Redeemer." Feel now God helping your body begin to relax, your mind clear of worrying and bad thoughts. Enjoy taking this time away for yourself and enjoy actively participating in getting well by choosing to focus on thoughts and images that will refresh, energize, and revitalize your immune system. Imagine now that you're comfortable those bad thoughts and tensions have, well, they've been put aside for now, and you're discovering that just by imagining this, just by imagining your tension and worry leaving your body, that you are actually becoming relaxed. Think about how nice it it that for just a few minutes you are free of worry. And think about how wonderful it is to know that right now you are giving yourself this time to let your body and your mind relax and refresh, and to gain new energy, which will give your immune system the increased strength it needs to destroy your illness. Congratulate yourself for choosing to become actively involved in your healing and in your recovery process and for making the decision to get well. Because by actively choosing to take this time right now to relax and clear your mind, to let go of your stress, you are in fact enhancing your health. And by taking this time right now, you are sending this message to your illness. "Thank you for helping me get my priorities straight. Thank you for helping me to appreciate my friends and my family more. And thank you for bringing me closer to God. But it's time for you to go now and you will be removed from my body." I want you now, as you are starting to feel more and more relaxed, think about a place. It can either be real or imaginary, a place you used to go to or somewhere where you've always wanted to be, a place that makes you feel good and safe and at peace. Imagine this place becoming more real to you in every way. Look around, enjoy what you see. Take in the entire scene of this place,

Skip Orem (00:03): Hi, everybody from Nashville. I'm Skip Orem, and this is the Anchor Pointe Podcast. (00:17): Hello again, everybody from the Printer's Alley Studios of the XBHS Radio Network here in Nashville. I'm Skip Orem. And I'm so glad that you pushed the play button for this week's episode of Anchor Pointe. (00:32): On today's episode, we're going to be talking more about the seven elements of the Anchor Pointe disease fighting and fitness model, and specifically how each of those elements work together to help us older folks in our 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond to help us stay fit and to stay healthy and fight off those diseases that start to affect us as we get older. And then a little bit later in the podcast I want to talk about what I've been doing this September that has me running a significant number of miles this month, significant anyway for this old man. However, right now on Anchor Pointe, let's get to medical news for seniors. (01:24): Today's headline on medical news for seniors, the life-changing benefits of exercise after age 60. According to the CDC, all older adults can benefit from regular physical activity. Exercise can positively impact your physical health as well as your emotional wellbeing. Of course, as we get older we don't have the stamina, the agility that we may have had back when we were younger. But that doesn't mean that we should just relax, sit on the couch, watch TV, read a book. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every older adult, men and women, benefit from regular, moderate physical activity. And that's even true for those of us with medical conditions like arthritis, heart disease, obesity, cancer, and high blood pressure. (02:24): So what are some of those key benefits? Preventing bone loss, we start to lose bone density as we get older. Well, exercise helps us to strengthen our bones. And you know what? Exercise, moving more, can actually help lessen the pain and stiffness of arthritis. Exercising as we age it helps us to well prevent those chronic diseases that seem to be just common after us as we get older. And check out this headline. One study found that participants over the age of 60 showed fewer Alzheimer's disease biomarkers when they performed at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. And of course, studies are showing that exercise and a good diet increased the effectiveness of our immune system. And everybody, we will be talking about that very important immune system of ours frequently on the Anchor Pointe Podcast. So the take home from this study, a comprehensive fitness plan is extremely important in maintaining not only a healthy body as we age, but also improving our mood and creating a sense of wellbeing. That is important medical news for seniors on the Anchor Pointe Podcast. (03:56): The comprehensive fitness and disease fighting plan is what the Anchor Pointe Podcast is all about. The Anchor Pointe disease fighting and fitness plan has seven elements. Faith, exercise, diet, attitude, positive imagery, music and research. Each of those elements working together can create a level of health and fitness that, well, it's just so important as we age. You want to be mobile, you want to be happy and positive, you want to live that long, happy, and healthy life. And if any of those diseases com
your way, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, well, you want to have a strong immune system to fight them off. And at the very least, keep them under control. (04:50):

Skip Orem: (00:41) So this episode today is both the introductory episode of the Anchor Pointe and the continuation of the Web Radio Today Podcast. And what a day it is for the introductory episode of the Anchor Pointe Podcast. It's late September, the Autumn Equinox was yesterday, and we're now fully into the autumn season, 2022. So one more time, everybody, I'm Skip Orem, and welcome to the Anchor Pointe. Skip Orem: (03:12)The Anchor point of Anchor Pointe, wait a minute, the anchor point of Anchor Pointe, that sounds like I'm just repeating the same thing twice, but not really, because with this podcast, I want to help you anchor your faith and fitness journey to the seven elements of the Anchor Pointe Disease-Fighting and Fitness Model. Those seven elements are faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, music, and research. And those seven elements are the focus of this podcast, helping you to strengthen your faith and fitness by using each of those seven elements. And each week, I'll try to give you some information and motivation to keep you going on your personal faith and fitness journey, because everybody, practicing those seven elements, each of them working together is so important in living that long, healthy, and happy life that we all want. Skip Orem: (04:25) Okay. Let's get started right now, everybody, with medical news for seniors. Research continues to show that religion is extremely important to good health. It can reduce your blood pressure, strengthen your immune system, and put you in an overall positive state of mind, which helps to reduce stress. Your faith, it can help you lessen the effects of depression. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic have concluded that most studies have shown that religious involvement and spirituality are associated with better health outcomes including greater longevity. And hey, that's what the Anchor Pointe is all about.

XBHS RADIO (00:00):
This is the XBHS Radio Network. Skip Orem (00:19): Hey, everybody from Nashville, I'm Skip Orem, and this is the Web Radio Today podcast, the faith and fitness podcast for baby boomers, us older folks in our sixties and seventies and beyond. Well, we're working real hard to stay healthy and fit, fight off diseases, and live a long, healthy, happy, and active life. This is the second of our pre-season episodes as we're getting ready to start season four of the Web Radio Today podcast. We're going to start season four in September. That's because September, well, I always think of it as a season of renewal and new beginnings, and I hope you will join me as we refocus our dedication on living healthy, happy, and long lives. That first new episode, by the way, of season four will drop on Friday, September 23rd, and then we'll have weekly episodes released every Friday. During this episode today, I'm going to provide you with some important medical news for seniors. We're also going to talk about your immune system. I'll give you an update on some changes that are happening to the Web Radio Today website, and on this episode today, I have a way for you to start losing some excess weight right now while the summer is still going on. All right then, so let's get this episode started with some medical news for seniors. New research continues to show that a positive attitude toward growing older leads to a longer life. One study found that people with a positive attitude as they continue to age live on average seven years longer, all other things being equal. Seven years is actually double the impact of exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy diet. A positive attitude helps us to age slower. This research also shows that people who are optimistic have better mobility. That positive attitude, everybody, it keeps you healthy. It helps you to feel less stressed when times get tough and keeping a positive attitude, it's going to help you bounce back from adversity faster. And most important, a positive attitude is going to keep your immune system functioning at a much higher level. A very simple takeaway from this important medical news for seniors, stay positive, everybody. Just a little addendum to that medical news update, if you are a regular listener to the Web Radio Today podcast, you already know that a positive attitude is one of the seven elements of the Web Radio Today disease fighting and fitness model. To keep your immune system healthy, to keep it fighting for you, killing those bad harmful cells for you, keeping them out of your body, fighting disease, those good disease fighter cells, those disease fighting warrior cells, they need your positive attitude. They need that positive attitude for motivation to keep them fighting you. You're the general, the leader. Those disease fighting cells that power up your immune system, they're your troops. Please, everybody, stay positive in everything you do. Always, always expect a good outcome. Keep love at the forefront of your heart. A healthy immune system thrives on that. A positive attitude and love in your heart. I feel just so strongly that a negative attitude when bad things happen, well, bad things, they thrive on a negative attitude. They thrive on the absence of love. If you keep worrying and predicting a bad outcome, you're going to cause a bad outcome. Especially at our age, everybody, we need those fighter cells in our immune system. We need them so much. We need them to be strong, so feed them with your positive attitude, your energy. Keep love in your heart.

Skip Orem (00:08): Hi everybody. I’m Skip Orem, and welcome to the Web Radio Today podcast. This is episode number 28, the last episode of season one. This entire episode it’s a guided positive imagery session. Designed especially to help you deal with the stress and with the anxiety that often comes along with the holiday season. To get the maximum benefit from this guided positive imagery session, it’d be best if you could be alone and in a comfortable space, lying down or sitting very comfortably in a chair. And it’d be really cool if you could darken the room. You should also be prepared to spend the next 25 to 30 minutes alone with your thoughts. Skip Orem (01:01): If you’re not ready to do this right now, this is not the best time for you, you can just hit the pause button, and then once you’ve got everything ready and you’ve got 30 to 40 minutes to spend some time with yourself relaxed, get away from everything, just push the play button, and enjoy this special Web Radio Today Christmas season guided imagery session. Skip Orem (01:46): Close your eyes now and begin to let yourself relax. And then as you let yourself relax, begin to take some deep breaths. Deep breaths in, and then out. Deep breaths and then exhale. And as you do this, deep breaths in and then out, begin to clear your mind of everything that’s going on right now. Clear your mind and let out all of that tension, let that worry and any bad thoughts, go out with the breath. Perhaps right now you’re having some worry and concern about everything that’s going on right now during this holiday season. Everything seems to be moving so fast and still so much to do. Recognize those feelings, and then for a few minutes, send them away. Try to clear everything out of your mind as you breathe in and out. Skip Orem (03:10): And think about this, there are really so many joyous things about this holiday season. Of course the most important, celebrating the birth of Jesus. But also this is the time for greeting old friends, being with family, As you continue to breathe in and out, recognize and accept, that of course sometimes this holiday season can be so overwhelming. But today, right now as you take in deep breaths and then breathe out, you’re making a conscious choice to clear your mind for just a few minutes and relax. Skip Orem (04:09): As you are choosing right now to breathe out your worries and your tension, for a few minutes, your mind is becoming clear and empty. And hopefully for just a few minutes, you will allow yourself to have a very special Christmas blessing, of complete and total stillness. Skip Orem (04:47): Deep breaths in, tension, bad thoughts and worry out. Breathe them away with your exhale. And think for a second about something that the Apostle Paul wrote so very long ago, and honor Paul’s words as you breathe in and out and clear your mind and prepare for your meditation. This is God’s word. Philippians 4:8, “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is an excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think now only about these things.”
Skip Orem (06:01): And especially now at this Christmas season, think about the gift God gave us,

WRT 43 TRANSCRIPT Skip Orem: (00:17) ey everybody, from Nashville, I'm Skip Orem and welcome to Web Radio Today. Podcasting and broadcasting today from the XBHS Radio Studios on Printer's Alley, just off Broadway, Nashville, Tennessee. Yep. This is Web Radio Today. The podcast with the very specific goal of helping the baby boomer generation, us older folks in our sixties and seventies and beyond. The goal of Web Radio Today is to keep us baby boomers physically fit, healthy, and free of disease so that we can live long and happy lives. And we do that by using the seven elements of the Web Radio Today Disease Fighting and Fitness Model, those seven elements, faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, music, and research. Skip Orem: (01:35) I hope everybody listening to this podcast had an awesome summer as we're now in the fall season. This autumn season, especially here in the United States is... Well, it's kind of a time for renewal. Getting our acts together. And it's also a time right now to remember that, well, there are diseases out there gunning for us older folks. Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis. And unfortunately, that's just a few of them. We need to make some plans to do everything we can to prevent those diseases from attacking us. And then, to destroy them, or moderate their effects when they do get in our bodies. That is the goal of the Web Radio Today podcast. Some exciting and new changes are coming to the Web Radio Today podcast, including our brand new affiliation with the XBHS Radio Network. But right now let's get to medical news for seniors. Skip Orem: (02:59) And just one more thing before we get to the medical news segment, I wanted to let all of you know that on our medical news for senior segment, that I don't plan to feature any medical news about COVID. Now I know it's the most important medical news story for all of us, but there is so much news out there. COVID news stories conflicting with other COVID news stories, and it changes. It changes almost every day. So I hope that you're staying aware of news on COVID and that you're always consulting with your doctors in making your decisions on how to deal with COVID. So now with that little qualifier, let's go now to Web Radio Today medical news for seniors. Here are your Web Radio Today medical news for seniors headlines. 60% of older adults who've had a telehealth visit in lieu of an in-person appointment with their doctor have found that the experience was the same as, or better than their regular in person visit with their doctor. Skip Orem: (04:20)And then also today, a nother headline, we'll have news about how physical activity can help to prevent dementia and memory loss. This COVID pandemic it's changed a lot of things, including for some of us how we interact with our doctors. In response to this pandemic, the government has made it so much easier for Medicare to pay doctors and hospitals for telehealth visits. And you may not find this all that surprising, but more than half of us older folks in the United States experienced some kind of disruption with our medical care during this pandemic. I know that I was one of the many who had to delay in-person visits with my doctor.
Skip Orem: (05:160 And it seems that well, according to surveys, that we're all okay with telehealth visits as a replacement for that regular in-person time with our doctor.

TRANSCRIPT FOR EPISODE 41
Skip Orem (00:15): Happy 4th of July weekend everybody. From Nashville, I'm Skip Orem welcoming you to the July 4th weekend episode of WEB RADIO TODAY. Thanks everybody for deciding to push the play button and spend a little time with me talking about our faith and our fitness. We are the baby boom generation. Us seniors in our 60s, 70s and beyond, we're on a quest to fight off disease, stay healthy and live a long, happy and active life. And we are doing that by using the seven elements of the WEB RADIO TODAY disease fighting and fitness model, faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, music, and research. And it is that diet element where we will spend a little time on today's episode. As this episode releases today, July 2nd, I'm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on my summer vacation enjoying the ocean and spending quality time with my wife, Terry. We've been doing this trip as a annual summer vacation wrapped around the July 4th holiday for just as long as I can remember. So to be totally truthful with y'all, I'm recording this episode today during the last week of June. While I'm on vacation, like many of you, I'm going to be tempted to overeat. And so that's why on today's episode we're going to discuss a strategy that I've developed for helping you to maintain control of your diet by modifying it to allow you to perhaps cheat just a little bit while on vacation and on some of these summer holidays that are coming up. Also, later on this podcast today I want to spend a little time talking about why faith is important in our quest to live a long and healthy life and to fight off diseases. But right now let's get started first with a feature of almost every one of our episodes, a WEB RADIO TODAY mini workout. And then after this many workout, a brief medical news update, which will include some important new information for those of you dealing with diabetes. However, right now this is where we spend a couple of minutes getting our heart rates up and burning some calories. This is where you can move in any way you can, walk around, run around, jump up and down, dance, whatever you can do to get your heart rate beating a little faster. You can even do this mini workout by sitting down, just move whatever parts of your body you can safely move while sitting down or driving. And to help motivate you to get you going during this mini workout, a very special appearance on WEB RADIO TODAY, here's Verona Red, They're Out of Chicago and No Way Home. All right. You can bring it down, slow down and cool down for the next few minutes. Keep moving a little bit, but at a slower pace. Let's talk for a few minutes about the challenges of trying to maintain a healthy diet over the 4th of July weekend or any holiday for that matter, or when you're on vacation. Most of us in those situations are tempted by all that special food available to us. We're tempted to overeat. We need to go into these situations, holidays, vacations, with a plan so that we don't overeat and so that we don't gain weight, because if you eat too much and you gain weight over the holidays or on vacation, you feel bloated, it's just going to put more post holiday stress and strain on you because you're going to worry about that extra weight, and you might have to work extra hard to just get back with the weight you started with when you went on vacation. And then the other thing, and this is actually a very important thing,

Skip Orem (00:06): Hey, everybody. From Nashville, I'm Skip Orem and welcome to the Web Radio Today podcast. This is episode number 40. Welcoming in the summer [inaudible 00:00:20], which will occur this coming Sunday night. In honor of the beginning of summer, this entire episode of web radio today will be a guided positive imagery session. This very special guided imagery session is especially designed to help you relax, relieve stress, and turn down your anxiety level and especially to get yourself ready to enjoy this wonderful coming season of summer. To get the most out of this guided imagery session, it'd be best if you could be alone in a very comfortable, quiet space, lying down or sitting very comfortably in a chair. This session is going to last for 20 minutes. And if you don't want to do the session right now, maybe you don't have time or you're just not ready yet, you can simply hit the pause button and then once you've got everything ready and you have 20 minutes to spend with yourself in a very relaxed way, just push the play button and enjoy this very special Web Radio Today guided imagery session. As we began, position yourself as comfortably as you can adjusting your weight so that your body feels fully supported. Taking a nice, full breath, inhale as fully as you can, sending the warm, cleaning breath deep and to any parts of your body that may feel especially tense or tight. And then as you exhale, release and clear out any tension or discomfort that you might be feeling right now. Breathe it away with the exhale. Continue to breathe in and out, letting your breath go to all of the uncomfortable, sore or tense parts of your body. And notice, notice how with each breath in and out how your cleansing and clearing breath is beginning to loosen and soften those tense and sore places, taking all of those bad feelings, taking them away with the exhale. As you continue to breathe, deep breaths in tension and worry going out and notice how you're beginning to become more relaxed and safe. You can actually see the cleansing action of your breath removing tension and strain, worry, and doubt, harmful feelings and resentments being sent away. You are choosing right now to clear your mind and let your body relax. And as you do this, think for a second about something that the Apostle Paul wrote so very long ago to the Christian Church in Philippi. And honor Paul's words, as you clear your mind and prepare your mind for the session. Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is an excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Think about only these things now, as you clear your mind of anything else. Because in God we have all that we need, no matter what. He created the summer season, this beautiful summer season that this year will renew you. You pledge now to open your heart and let that happen because you know that as you look to God, you can count on him for complete rest and restoration. Jesus makes it clear that worrying about the future is a waste of time. And Jesus reminds us that our heavenly father values us above all else,

Web Radio Today: Baby Boomers Staying in Good Health
Skip Orem: (00:14)
Hi, everybody. From the XBHS Radio Studios on Printer's Alley here in Nashville, Tennessee, I'm Skip Orem and this is Web Radio Today Episode 39, for a Friday in May, kicking off the Memorial Day holiday weekend in the USA, the unofficial start of summer. This is one of our Web Radio Today in-between season episodes. Also, this is kind of a milestone episode today. It was May 1st last year that I started Web Radio Today, so we are officially beginning the second year of your favorite faith and fitness podcast. We are using the seven elements of the Web Radio Today disease fighting and fitness model to help us older folks in our 50s or 60s, 70s and beyond, helping us stay healthy, stay fit, and fight off those diseases that sometimes come for us in our golden years. Those seven elements, by the way: faith, diet, exercise, attitude, positive imagery, music, and research.
Important Medical News on Today’s Episode
Skip Orem: (01:33)
On today's episode, we're going to have some important medical news, and we'll also talk a little bit about positive imagery. I know we've gained some new listeners to Web Radio Today in the past few months, and so for those of you that don't really know anything about me, I'm going to play a clip. This clip will be from Episode One, where I talk about my background and why I started the Web Radio Today podcast. If you're new to Web Radio Today, I think you might enjoy this little seven minutes segment from Episode One, which I'll play later in the episode today. Then at the end of the episode today, since Father's Day is coming up in a few weeks, I want to spend just a couple of minutes talking about our father's love. I think you'll enjoy it and I hope that you'll stick around to the end of the podcast to listen to it. One of the very cool things about podcasts, you can pause them, stop and start them whenever you want. Just use those play and those pause buttons. By the way, thank you so very much for pushing the play button on today's episode.
A Web Radio Today Mini Workout
Skip Orem: (03:05)
As we do on every Web Radio Today podcast, let's start this episode with a Web Radio Today mini-workout. Let's really get moving now; dance, exercise, move, do whatever you want to get your body moving, your blood flowing, and those calories burning. We are going all the way back to the 1950s for some rock and roll and if you're doing a workout as you listen to Episode 39 today, it's time to crank that workout up to a high intensity level. If you're sitting down, it's time to get up and start moving in any way that you can. If you can't get up, move whatever parts of your body that you safely can. Then everybody after this mini-workout, medical news for seniors on Web Radio Today. Get moving now everybody.
Episode 40 Will Be A Guided Imagery Session
Skip Orem: (06:00)
A lot more to come on today's episode, but first I want to talk a little bit about the next Web Radio Today episode, which is coming up on June 18th. Mark your calendars. Episode 40 will be a mid-summer guided imagery session and with that special episode coming up, I thought that it might be a good idea right here to talk a little bit about guided i...

TRANSCRIPT Episode 43 Web Radio Today: THE FAITH AND FITNESS PODCAST
Skip Orem (00:17) Hey everybody, from Nashville, I'm Skip Orem and welcome to Web Radio Today.
Skip Orem detals how music can improve you mood, reduce stress, lesson anxiety and improve your overall health and well being.
