Belgium’s Peter Van Hoesen has never been that typical techno artist. Although considered as one of the genre’s tastemakers he is someone who sculpts sounds for many different environments - the club, the home, the gallery or museum. He does so with a true sense of personality. On his own label Time to Express he releases textural compositions and he also records to great acclaim as Sendai alongside Yves De Mey.
In performance terms, Peter lays down dark and arresting techno sets as well as captivating, story telling live musical journeys. Because of that he is renowned around the world for his high quality, high creativity, high levels of consistency, constantly translating his personality into his music.
Fifteen years ago, my Entropic City album was released on Time To Express. It was received very positively. Resident Advisor described it as “amongst techno’s most compelling stories to date”, while Germany’s Groove magazine called it a “modern classic of the genre”. The album also appeared in several end-of-year best-of lists. Fun times.At the beginning of 2025, I started looking for a meaningful way to mark the album’s 15th anniversary. Over the course of the year, I began developing stripped-down edits of the original tracks. Two rules guided the process: I was allowed to use only one additional sound source alongside the original track, and every version had to be recorded as a live take. It took some time to bring the project together, but I’m happy to say it was completed before the end of 2025.This album will be made available exclusively to members of the paid tiers on Patreon. The source of this 56 minute excerpt is the recording of my last extended dj set. It was performed on June 23 2023 at Badaboum in Paris. The show at Badaboum marked the end of a long series of all-night long sets which I have been performing over many years. As I have focused all my attention on playing live I consider this event and its recording as the last statement in my dj life. This is a preview of 'A Swing Is Not A Throw', out on Time To Express under catalog number T2X38.'A Swing Is Not A Throw' is the indirect result of my decision in 2022 to focus on performing live shows. Every live show is recorded and analysed afterwards. I take notes on which combinations worked best, which transitions to elaborate upon, how to make the whole sound better for the next show. After more than six months of performing live I decided to shape this new material into complete tracks. It was time for a new EP, two years after Echoes From Westbrook Bay. This is a 30 minutes excerpt of a 107 minutes long recording of my dj gig at Elysia in Basel on March 19 2022.
Some of you will know Elysia for its incredible Lambda Labs sound system, for some it will ring a bell as the home club of Agonis and Amenthia records. In any case, it is a special place which inspires me a lot. Playing at Elysia inspires me to take the bmp's down a notch, as the sound system is one of those rigs which does not only rely on power, but also on subtlety. It really is the best indoor sound system in Europe, in my opinion.

Since August 2020 I have been releasing a monthly mix, carefully curated, often changing in theme, made available exclusively to my Patreon supporters.

Peter Van Hoesen returns to his beloved Time To Express label after a consistent string of releases on Center 91 in 2020. ‘Echoes from Westbrook Bay’ is a six-track EP, showcasing the Belgian producer’s personal take on immersive techno.
The EP contains six tracks, focusing on Van Hoesen’s detailed, narrative sound. They share his trademark intricate sound design, directing the listener’s attention towards multiple layers and events within each composition.
The main body of the EP is focused around four brand new techno tracks, ranging from the light-footed, melodic ‘Allocators’ to the muscular vibes of closing track ‘Block by Block’. ‘Waving not Drowning’ continues to explore Van Hoesen’s breakbeat-oriented output on Batu’s Timedance imprint. It’s an abstract drum’n’bass roller recorded live in one take, combining a tight rhythmic framework with wide, modulated synth sounds. No drops here, it’s all about tension and anticipation.
‘Echoes from Westbrook Bay’ adds another highlight to Van Hoesen’s extensive output on Time To Express.

4 years ago I published an ambient mix on my Soundcloud page, titled Prismatic Wish. I always had the plan to create a follow-up to this mix, especially since I received so many positive comments about it. It's been streamed over 45000 times since its publication, so the motivation to create a second ambient mix was definitely there.
Chromatic Wish is my brand new ambient mix, recorded exclusively for my Patreon supporters. This one hour mix is the follow-up to Prismatic Wish, and is accessible to all subscribers of tiers 2, 3 and 4.
