In this episode of "Life, Lemons & LemonDrops," Whitnie discusses why relying on motivation alone is not enough to reach our goals. We start by debunking the media-driven fallacy that motivation is the most important factor in achieving success. Instead, we focus on the importance of consistency and accountability and share five practical tips for cultivating discipline to reach our desired outcomes.

We also share personal stories, including how moving every day for 484 days in a row has helped cultivate momentum, and offer examples from children's stories like "The Tortoise and the Hare" to illustrate the importance of celebrating progress.

We discuss the need to recognize when we need help and to use reminders and accountability partners to stay on track. We also discuss the importance of finding our "why" and prioritizing the activities that align with our values and goals.

To wrap up, we offer three action items to take away:

  1. Identify one area of your life where you need to be more consistent and create a plan to stay on track.
  2. Find an accountability partner or group to help you stay accountable to your goals.
  3. Celebrate your progress and focus on the positive feelings that come with taking action towards your desired outcomes.

If you're looking to reach your goals and develop the discipline to do so, this episode is a must-listen.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss ways to tackle the list of personal and household business you might need to complete before the year ends. If you’re like most people, deadlines are looming for exhausting healthcare, credit cards, or other financial benefits. It might not be too late to dive deeply into your accounts and services and claim rebates, points, and other valuable discounts, but the time may be very limited.

In addition to taking advantage of benefits you’ve earned or paid for, now is an excellent time to check what services you will need to make your life easier in the new year. Cancel programs you don’t use or that don’t bring value or combine those that may be more beneficial if they weren’t diluted by having split “loyalties.” Either way, pulling out a notepad or a calculator may help you see patterns in spending and usage that need correction.

Once you have shored up your business for the year and set a plan for 2023, consider ways to celebrate that victory. It may be to sit back and sing carols with your family, or perhaps you’d like to pay it forward by donating your time to those less fortunate than you or by just sharing a few of the dollars you saved with the people who’ve provided you service throughout the year (think barista, letter carrier, mechanic, housekeeper, or others in your community who could use a helping hand).

Now that Thanksgiving is over, we are officially in the holiday season and creeping up on the end of the year. What did you have planned that you haven't yet accomplished? There's time, or at least time to make progress.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss the value of assessing the resolutions and goals set at the beginning of 2022 and making the final push to accomplish what you set out to achieve. As you start to wrap up the year, with about five weeks remaining, it's not too late to regroup and make things happen if you have fallen a little short, or make changes and carry your goals over into the new year…and you're already further ahead than you were at the start of the last year.

As you reflect on the past year and focus on gratitude and growth, you will find that reconnecting with your "why" will help you on your journey to your goals. And remembering to revisit them throughout the year, especially at the end of the year, is a great way to stay on track.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss the 2022 midterm elections and our thoughts on the country's direction. Looking back over the past couple of years, some of the rhetoric that has been a part of our political discourse and the need for all Americans to come together for the country's good give rise to our concerns for the future. Nevertheless, we remain optimistic about what tomorrow has in store.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss the idea of direction versus speed. Which is more important? Getting where you need to go or getting there quickly? We explore the benefits and pitfalls of focusing on achieving goals when the time is right, at the expense of perhaps not achieving those goals because you were focused on an arbitrary timeline.

We’ve learned there is no one right way of working towards a goal or specific objectives, and sometimes even going in the wrong direction can be beneficial if the alternative is stagnation or inertia. The key is always moving more in the right direction than in the wrong direction. Then be prepared to be flexible and willing to stop, reassess, make modifications and even do a 180° pivot when circumstances require.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss the idea of not thinking about your problems as a way to solve your problems. When life serves us lemons, our default position is often to ruminate on the bad, often to the detriment of finding an apt solution. The habit of fixating on the negative can leave us overwhelmed, overstressed, and unable to get to the other side of the challenges. More often than not, the solution is right there if you could only see it.

Stopping thoughts about a problem can speed up the time it takes for it to go away, if not eliminate it altogether. When we give energy to a problem, we give it more life and resonance in our brains, which only makes the problem seem more significant—and more stressful.

Stop. Stop thinking about it. Clear your mind, observe your surroundings, be in the moment, and you may find the solution revealing itself as you zero in on the purity of “being in the moment.”

As Greer and Whitnie uncover steps to getting into that space, you may realize that problems in your own life are not as bad as they seemed once your perspective shifts. Listen, like, and share this and all episodes of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops with your friends and followers.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss the task of delivering bad news. No one wants to be the bearer of bad news, but some things are inevitable, like the sunrise in the morning or rain in England. Life will periodically deliver lemons right to your doorstep, and when it does, it is important to know how to navigate the emotional terrain that goes with it, especially when you need to take the feelings of others into consideration.

Following the recent death of a close friend, Greer had to share the news with her son. While she did what felt right at the time, she later realized there is a “formula” one can follow to deliver the bad news that might help mitigate some of the negative outcomes. If only she had sought that blueprint beforehand. You can benefit from her learnings as Greer and Whitnie review 8-Steps to deliver bad news.

Whether you are sharing news about the death of a loved one, terminating an employee, or something in between, a few key points will make delivering the bad news easier for the person to receive.

"A river cuts through rock not because of its power but because of its persistence." ~ Jim Watkins

We don't get what we want because of a few moments of motivation. We get what we want through discipline, consistency, and persistence. Much like a river of water, if we keep at it, we cut through the stuff, the obstacles of life, and can flow to the place of our dreams. It doesn't happen overnight. And because it takes time, we have to recognize that we will not always be motivated, so to maintain momentum, we have to tap into a willingness to continue making progress. In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, Whitnie discusses the importance of continuous movement and forward progress to reaching your goals.

As the old saying goes, "talk is cheap." But you have to start somewhere.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss the latest mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, and consider how society might use this crisis to come together for meaningful change. With over 311,000 students directly impacted by gun violence (since Columbine), we consider a world where millions have a link to this uniquely American phenomenon. While no easy answers exist, talking about the problem is a start and certainly better than the alternative of allowing ourselves to be numb to our reality.

Maybe this time is when we'll stop talking past each other and start talking with each other to find a solution that protects the most vulnerable. Since the recording of this episode, hope shines a bit brighter as Senator McConnell has directed Senator Cornyn to discuss a bipartisan solution with Senate Democrats. Read more here.

First, there was FOMO, then JOMO.

Now there is FOPO? The fear of other people's opinions. Isn't it enough that you were born with an inner critic that you allow to keep you from the success of your dreams? Then why are you also letting what other people think of you, or whether they think of you at all, get in your way?

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, Greer and Whitnie explore the ways perfectionism—brought on by the fear of what people think of you or your activities—hold you back. Instead of entertaining those thoughts, start to ask some questions that will help shed light on your reality, then adopt a few strategies that will help you move beyond your fears, and into a place of lessons learned and ultimate success.

According to the Bard, "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." But in reality, would it? What's in a name? Is yours holding you back? Whether it's Moon Unit, Wilde Wolf, Greer, or Whitnie, what impact does your name, unique or not, have on your life?

Following the birth of her son, Wilde Wolf, Eve Jihan Cooper, the rapper known mononymously as Eve, Greer and Whitnie discuss the importance of your given name and how it shapes your life. Most people's names aren't quite as colorful as the one Eve and her husband, Maximillion Cooper, bestowed on their son Wilde Wolf Fife Alexander Somers Cooper; nevertheless, they experience life with the weight of other people's assumptions based on the relative normality of their moniker.

Whether it's right or wrong to judge someone based on their name, it's happening all the time. What ultimately is the way to move forward?

You've been there. Applying for a job is stressful. Getting an offer is exciting. Then comes the difficult part of negotiating your salary and benefits. How do you place a price on valuing your contribution to the company without pricing yourself out of the job or underselling yourself and leaving money on the table.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, Greer and Whitnie discuss the negotiations involved in your value in the workplace and the actual pay you receive. Using a recent example of an HR Director who bragged on social media about paying an employee the $85K/yr she requested versus the $130K the position was budgeted for, the discussion was a deep dive into the myriad nuances involved in determining a fair salary, when there’s little transparency.

Does a professional sports coach need to have played the sport they are coaching? Or does your neighbor make a million dollars before they start giving you financial advice? Should the unsolicited opinions and advice from people who have no experience or expertise doing what you're trying to do matter.

At a recent social gathering, Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts Greer and Whitnie were peppered with questions about the podcast then offered unsolicited advice, from non-listeners, on what direction the show should take in the future. The conversation, while interesting, was simultaneously off-putting.

You've been there. You're trying to accomplish something, and maybe it's completing your education, starting a business, or getting your health in order when someone who has never done what you are doing starts telling you the path to success.

How much should other people's opinions factor into your decisions and actions, and how should you respond to the advice of others?

In this episode of Life, Lemons and LemonDrops, Greer and Whitnie explore those questions and others, along with some general rules we live by on when to take advice and how to graciously (and kindly) move forward.

In this second episode on the topic of niceness v. kindness, Greer and Whitnie discuss the application in your work. Does being nice get you what you want or does your attempt to stay comfortable keep you in a perpetual state of stress?

Being kind is the better route because being kind is about being helpful in the situation rather than trying to avoid being uncomfortable. You may have to ruffle some feathers to maintain your boundaries or to get the outcome you seek. You have to decide what behaviors you are willing to accept and which don't serve you.

In this Bonus Episode, Greer and Whitnie recall the lives of some notable figures we lost during 2021 and what they meant to us. Sharing memories of their contributions and how we can learn from their examples makes their loss easier to accept and celebrate.

News broke soon after recording this bonus episode that comedian Betty White passed away. She was a couple of weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

Here are a few Betty quotes we thought you might find interesting.

On humor: "For me, humor is about rhythm. It's like an ear for music. It's hard to explain."

Passion: "I think everybody needs a passion. Whether it's one passion or a hundred, that's what keeps life interesting...I can't imagine living any other way."

On aging: "Somewhere along the line there is a breaking point, where you go from not discussing how old you are to bragging about it."

Regrets: "I have no regrets at all. None. I consider myself to be the luckiest old broad on two feet."

Having children: "Barbara Walters once asked me if I ever had desired to have a child. The answer is, I never did think about it."

Here we give Betty the final word on grief: "There's no formula. Keep busy with your work and your life. You can't become a professional mourner. It doesn't help you or others. Keep the person in your heart all the time. Replay the good times. Be grateful for the years you had."

We all have self-talk, so it's not a matter of doing or not, but whether it is serving you. For the most part, left unchecked, because of a phenomenon called the negativity bias, our self-talk is negative and does nothing to help us achieve our goals or live a better life. The good news? It's something you can change.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, Whitnie shares why your self-talk is essential and how to improve it if you find yourself thinking and saying things to and about yourself that are not supportive, encouraging, or uplifting. When you feel better, you do better.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, Greer and Whitnie discuss the benefits of "going the extra mile," also considered to be exceeding expectations. Have you heard the phrase "under-promise and over-deliver?" It's a good rule of thumb to live and work by.

The most successful businesses and people are the ones who give that little bit extra, setting them apart from the rest of the pack. The benefits not only inure to the benefit of your family, friends, customers, and clients but are also a boon to you. How? You are transformed by being a better version of yourself which results in increased confidence, consistency, and influence. The rewards can be financial, as well, when your boss, clients, or others notice you and compensate you accordingly.

Take the time to observe how you can go the extra mile, then enjoy what you get in return, whether psychically or financially. And remember, the extra mile tends to be a lonely place because so many people just won't put in the extra effort. That is one of the reasons your hard work is seen and can pay off.

In Part 2 of our three-part series with the authors of the book The Fearless Entrepreneurs, Greer and Whitnie discuss the importance of growth as a benefit of moving through fear and taking action before sharing the author's interviews. When we choose, our experiences help change us into versions of ourselves more aligned with who we were created to be. Fear, mental and emotional, is a construct that stands in the way of us being our true selves. The fear may result from past trauma or experiences, but it is not always the case that what we are feeling has any connection to the current environment. The more we step into that truth, the more we can be who we are meant to be.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, Greer and Whitnie talk about some of what gets in the way of us taking action on our thoughts and dreams. We share Part 1 of the interviews with some of the contributors to the book "The Fearless Entrepreneurs" by Lynda Sunshine West.

Lynda spent years of her life afraid, and it wasn't until she decided to be an action taker despite her fears that things started to turn around in her life and set her up for a life as an entrepreneur. If you judge people, you have no time to love them. ~Mother Theresa

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts Greer and Whitnie are talking about judging and being judgmental. How can we be less judge-y? "Judgmental" is having or displaying an excessively critical point of view, often borne of the notion that we alone have the answers or the best approach. When others don't conform to how we think they should be or how we would be in their situation, we then are critical of what they do or don't do.

Two current hot-button issues are the increase in coronavirus cases & the continuing resistance to getting vaccinated and/or wearing a mask; and Simone Biles' withdrawal from the Olympic gymnastics team and all-around competitions. The sisters dissect both issues and our reactions to them.

One of our highest callings is to love one another. When we live in judgment of others, we do so without regard often to what they are going through. That separation is helping to create the divide many are saying permeates American culture. More collectivist cultures, because they are focused on what is best for the community and not the individual, find it easier to live up to the model set not only by Mother Theresa but Jesus Christ as well.

Following are a few more quotes to provide food for thought and hopefully some inspiration to be unaffected by others' judgment and to be, yourself, less judgmental and more loving:

"Be curious, not judgmental." ~Walt Whitman

"Never judge someone without knowing the whole story. You may think you understand but you don't." ~Anonymous

"Let them judge you. Let them misunderstand you. Let them gossip about you. Their opinions aren't your problem. You stay kind, committed to love, and free in your authenticity. No matter what they say or do, don't you dare doubt your worth or the beauty of your truth. Just keep on shining like you do." ~Scott Stabile

"People are quick to point out others' faults, but never quick to point out their own." ~Anonymous

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss how to turn a “self-inflicted” lemon into a tasty LemonDrop. The sisters dissect the very human mistake made by 100 meter specialist Sha’Carri Richardson that earned her a 30-day suspension, and ultimately, removal from the 2021 US Olympic Track & Field team.

Using this very public case, they offer remedies and a path forward for anyone who finds themselves deprived of opportunities due to their own actions, but seeks a path to redemption and a roadmap for turning the experience into other opportunities that, perhaps, better align with their values and goals.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie tackle a subject that you may have faced--not getting a job you are more than qualified for, for reasons having nothing to do with your qualifications for the job. Sometimes, it's political, sometimes it's personal, but it's always painful. However it shakes out, you have to decide how you will handle it.

As a career management and transition coach, Whitnie sees all too often how job seekers don't value their worth enough to walk away from an application process when red lights are blaring. Those tell tale signs send all the messages needed to understand the the pitfalls that lie ahead. Most don't feel they can turn away any opportunity, let alone one they want, but in failing to do so, they end up subjecting themselves to something worse than if they'd simply chosen to go in a different direction in the first place. That's the choice Nikole Hannah-Jones made when she walked away from a tenured position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to instead join the faculty at Howard University.

If you've been paying any attention, you'll know that Hannah-Jones is an award-winning investigative journalist, including a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary, a MacArthur genius grant and a Peabody Award. She is an alumna of the very institution, UNC, that originally punted on her tenure application, then only after mounting pressure voted 9-4 to grant tenure. Hannah-Jones would be no different than most of us if she relished the idea of turning down the job, but dreaded the hassle of doing so and finding other opportunities. Ultimately, she triumphed with her ability to see that while her eventual path may not have been your preferred one, the one she ultimately travelled will have greater purpose in the long run.

Hannah-Jones' story, while the impetus of this episode, is about so much more. It's about you. It's about your choices and how you can elect to take the scraps someone else throws your way or you can stand up for yourself, defend what you believe is right and create an outcome that serves you beyond your ego and pocketbook.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss new love or rather renewed love. In the glow of the recently confirmed rekindled romance of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, we take a look at how you might consider revisiting a past love that may have not been right before, but for which timing makes all the difference.

Whitnie shares the story of her romance and subsequent marriage to her husband Michael 30 plus years after they first met. Whether reconnecting with a past love is in the cards for you or not, may boil down to whether or not you and your former significant other have grown with the passage of time. If a name comes to you, don't just write it off as an annoyance, but explore the possibility that there could be a reason to reconnect--anything from romance, to business, to just catching up--be open to possibilities as you never know where they will take you.

To work through blocks that may be keeping you from the life of your dreams, including work, business or romance, book a strategy session today to help you get clarity and create a plan to move forward.

In this episode, hosts Greer & Whitnie discuss the importance of letting go of grudges, not for the benefit of the one the grudge is against, but for the one holding the grudge.

A grudge is a persistent feeling of ill will or resentment from a past hurt or injury. The problem isn't necessarily having the feeling of ill will or resentment, but holding on to it in such a way or for a length of time, that it impacts your ability to move on or let go - that's where you can go wrong. Holding on to resentments can impact your health and relationships, so you'll want to address the source of your pain as soon as you are able. But as importantly, holding on to grudges can limit your opportunities, both personally and professionally.

Remember, nothing is as important as your mental and emotional health, so protecting them has to be a high priority for you.

If you need assistance moving through old hurts, hang-ups or habits in order to maximize your ability to live the life of your dreams, reach out to coach Whitnie at whitnie@shiftingintoaction.com. Or seek counseling from your mental health professional.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, a Greer-less Whitnie talks about the recent bruhaha over Naomi Osaka's decision to withdraw from the French Open after announcing she would not honor her contractual obligation to meet with the media. Osaka's actions highlight the need for us, particularly in the workplace to guard our wellbeing. Whether the way she went about communicating her decision was the best approach or not, the good news is that a spotlight has been placed on the divide between what is emotionally good for human beings and the price often paid for success.

Whitnie shares her thoughts about the importance of putting yourself first so you can serve and give from a whole and healthy you. Remember you cannot pour from an empty cup and sometimes making sure your cup is filled takes drastic measures to ensure your self-care. Rather than being judgmental, we should extend empathy and grace, as we attempt to understand how to provide support in areas it is needed. If Osaka with all the resources available to her is still feeling the need to step away from her work to take care of herself, what must those with fewer resources available be going through?

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie, chat with guest and health coach, Khieanne Dawson, about her health journey and how making small lifestyle changes helped her and will help you, too, get to the healthy body and life you desire.

We tend to think of our health and changes in our lives in general as 'all or nothing' or 'black or white.' It doesn't have to be that way. Yes, you want quick wins right out the gate that will help develop the momentum you'll need over the long haul, but by being willing to redefine success your own way and accept non-traditional ways of looking at your wins, you will help yourself keep moving in the right direction. Ultimately, it is the steady movement in the right direction that enables you to achieve your desired outcome. That and persistent action.

In our discussion, Khieanne shares how she trusted God for guidance, strength and wisdom and believed a solution was possible. Why it's important to take hold of the things you can control and let go of the things you can't. And how choosing to be persistent and consistent in taking action to got her through the challenges and one step at a time, she began to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

About Khieanne Dawson:

Khieanne is an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and owner of Abundant Life Integrative Health Coaching. She inspires, educates and motivates her coaching clients to make better health & lifestyle choices so they can achieve overall balance and embrace abundant living. She has been cooking plant-based foods for 23 years and teaches cooking classes showing how to make healthy and tasty dishes. She is currently writing a plant-based cookbook with recipes family and friends enjoy.

If you'd like to learn more about Khieanne or work with her, you can find her on her Facebook business page or she can be contacted at 607-759-8219 or abundantlifeihc@gmail.com.

You say something that someone sees as offensive. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Maybe you meant no harm. Nevertheless, people start coming for you. Next thing you know, they are calling for your job. When is enough too much?

In this episode, LemonDrops Sisters, Greer and Whitnie explore the phenomenon of Cancel Culture. Is it a real thing or is it just a fancy name for accountability? Spoiler alert, we don't deliver any solutions or solve the world's problems in today's conversation, but we think it's a discussion worth having. We all can be part of a societal shift away from cancelling each other (figuratively, of course), or we can join the crowd and pile on.

We are interested in what you think as well. Pop over to the LemonDrops Facebook group to share your thoughts or better yet, drop a voice message on Anchor and maybe we'll include it in a future episode.

Sorry, not sorry! It's more than a clap back from tweens and Gen-Z'ers. These words are not limited to relationships between people, they also exist in the corporate world. When you overthink your apology or focus more on mitigating your financial risk, your apology ceases being an apology and becomes a PR campaign...and the consequences can end up being worse than if you issued no apology at all.

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, co-hosts Greer and Whitnie continue the discussion about apologies by dissecting several recent events involving the apologies, or rather non-apologies, of public figures. Greer shares insights about the considerations of corporations and businesses and ways they can step up their apology game; and Whitnie offers commentary (not advice) on the legal liabilities apologies might trigger.

I'm sorry! Those two words can make or break even the most solid relationships. We've all done things that we are sorry for, but how we express our feelings about our own behavior says a lot. In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, co-hosts Greer and Whitnie discuss recent media events involving the apologies, or rather non-apologies, of public figures. They explore what apologies are, why and when you should apologize, or the reasons not to apologize if you do not truly feel sorrowful.

As we approach Valentine's Day (or Galentine's or Palentine's) or if you prefer, simply the day to love yourself, it's important to remember that love is the answer to much of what ails us. But how do we ensure the love in our lives is good for us?

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, Greer and Whitnie discuss some of the challenges inherent in relationships, romantic and platonic, including letting go and moving on once relationships have run their course. But how do you do that, especially if ending the relationship wasn't your idea? And even if it was, where do your start and how do you begin to put the pieces back together?

Letting go and moving on is not about forgetting, but forgiving--yourself and whoever caused you pain. Holding on to anger, bitterness or other negative emotions is harmful to your mind, body, spirit and future relationships. So do yourself a favor, get clarity on what you want in your relationships, focus on that and let the past be the past. Just remember to always cherish the lessons you've learned.

In Part 7 of this 8-part series on "Overcoming," Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts, Greer and Whitnie, welcome guest Jan Edwards who shares her story of a plan ride that changed it all.

About Jan Edwards

As a young girl and throughout most of her adult life Jan “played small” (using today’s vernacular). She always started from a place of “no.” Growing up, whether family and friends realized they were doing it or not, and through two failed marriages, she heard messages that she wasn’t smart, she wasn’t flexible, she was too neat and pressed, she was unapproachable, etc., and she took those messages and many more in and owned them as her truth. Looking back, she probably was unapproachable but it was a defense mechanism. If she stayed back and stayed quiet no one would notice her real insecurities and flaws and couldn’t further pile on her.

Despite how she felt about herself, Jan managed a long and successful career. At least to the outsider and until burnout appeared about 25 year into her career. She was exhausted with her schedule and the endless demands of her job. She was unhappy and unmotivated to take one more step. On a plane ride home one week Jan was at the lowest she had felt and in seat 5c, looking out the window with tears rolling down her face, she prayed, “Lord, what do I do?” By the time her plane reached its destination, Jan knew she needed to make a change and change she did.

After numerous conversations with God, time and a new lease on life, Jan began coaching and guiding women to shake off the limitations the world has imposed on them. She helps women tear down the false narratives and beliefs they have of themselves. She knows she was born to help women discover their purpose, their calling, and living in the abundance God is providing.

Four takeaways from this episode:

  • Know what you want – dream your dream, craft your vision, establish goals, and then go after them. Ask for advice if you need it, but don’t let anyone talk you out of your dream. Believe in yourself and your dream, even if no one else does.
  • Avoid comparisons – focus on what you want to do, be, and have. Your dreams and desires are yours – not your friends, your parents, what we see on social media, etc.
  • Speak kindly to yourself – negative brain chatter slows down your progress. Even when something doesn’t work out like you thought it would, love and praise yourself for what did go right and work on the areas that didn’t go as planned
  • God provides - God will provide everything you need to do what He calls you to do.

About Khalil Sikander  Khalil Sikander is native of Brooklyn, New York who now resides in Utah. He is an Afghani American who was raised in a difficult environment inside and out of the home. His love of basketball gave him a path to escape the grips of poverty. He chased his dream of playing college basketball through hard work and sacrifice and was able to make that dream come true and play at the Division 1 level. The first in his family to graduate high school and college, Khalil knows what it means to be resilient and persevere. Through the influence of many great mentors and teachers he learned the importance of education and became a high school teacher and coach. He has now turned his journey of education to the path of speaking in the world of education. Khalil shares his stories and experiences as a youth and as an educator who has endured bullying, harassment, racial injustice, and almost losing his career for saving lives.  His adversity has led him to truly find his dignity and moral compass to overcome his PTSD he continues to endured. He learned that by SCHAPEing others, it will build yours and others dignity. Khalil understands what it means to be the underdog and to never give up through his moral compass. In Part 4 of this 8-part series on "Overcoming," Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts, Greer and Whitnie, welcome guest Christine Lavulo. Christine Lavulo is a passionate author, relationship and life coach, speaker, and trainer. Christine has been married to her husband, Clawson since 1998. Together they have five amazing sons and one incredible grandson. Her passion is truly helping women have the greatest relationships of their lives with themselves, their spouses, friends, and family, and in their businesses. Christine has worked in the corporate world and has many years as a mompreneur. She knows that the key to success starts with successful relationships.

Christine’s passion and love for helping others eventually led her to speaking and coaching. Christine loves empowering women and is a certified Canfield Success Principles trainer, John Maxwell Team member, and Certified Professional Success Coach. She loves adding to her tool belt and currently has certifications in NLP (Neuro-Linguistics Programming), Ideal Life Vision, Transformation Code and Ho’oponopono. Christine combines her personal experiences with her certifications and education to help both individuals and corporations develop better relationships and have better personal and corporate culture. Christine is available as a guest speaker for women’s retreats, conferences and to keynote at corporate events. She also does individual and group coaching.

In her own words, Christine says: My life has definitely been filled with setbacks, even acknowledging at one point her life was the definition of a train wreck. One of the things I like to talk about is setbacks and failures in relationships. I was a single mom at 18, had my son a few months before high school graduation. That was a HUGE setback and me and my son's dad did not have a successful relationship. I never like to say "failed" because I don't believe that anything is a failure, just a stepping stone or lesson to be learned. I had another son at 22, new dad, again single mom. Then I married my prince charming but just a few months after 12th wedding anniversary, I moved out and was facing the strong possibility of divorce. The principles or takeaways in a variety of life situations are basically the same, but I think everything in life is really about relationships-with self, and others-whether bosses, co-workers, clients, family or friends.

Christine wants you to walk away from this episode with the understanding that:

  • You always have the power to choose the outcome you want by choosing the way you respond to everything that happens (E+R=O)
  • Forgiveness is the key to living a healthy life. When you forgive and let go, (not necessarily forgetting, but learning) you rid ourself of negative emotional baggage. Forgiving is for YOU, not the person being forgiven.
  • If you want to live an amazing life, you have to learn to ask for what you want. Talking openly about what you want or need, not with the requirement of others to meet your expectations, but with the desire to be understood.

To learn more about Christine and her services, you can follow her at Christine Lavulo Coaching on Facebook.

In Part 2 of this 8-part series on “Overcoming,” Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts, Greer and Whitnie, welcome guest Kristina Campos. Kristina is the founder of The Impactful Parent, an online community linking parents and caregivers with advice and resources to help make the parenting experience less difficult and lonely. Our conversation followed Kristina’s journey of losing and then rediscovering herself.

As a mother of four, Kristina found herself one day with a husband who no longer wanted to be married and having to start life over again. Hear her story and the steps she took to not only get in touch with who she was and would become, but to build a business that served her newly rediscovered identity and her family.

In her own words, Kristina says: I was living my dream. Stay at home mom, married, four kids, and a great teaching job. Things seemed great to me until suddenly my husband told me he wasn't happy. What!? To make matters worse, my children started acting out and my teens were getting increasingly more difficult. Then the bomb- He left. I was devastated. How was I going to do this alone? After many hours (ok- days) of crying in my closet, I had a choice. I could stay crying or I could get up and show my kids their mom's resiliency. I decided on resiliency, however the problem was I didn't recognize myself anymore. I had lived my life for everyone else for so many years that I didn't know who I was anymore. What did I like? What did I want to do?

Listen as Kristina retraces her steps from crying in the closet to living a life filled with happiness along with her four children…and her ex-husband.

When you think of habits what comes to mind? Good habits? Bad? Getting rid of habits you no longer want? Or developing the habits that will help you succeed? Habits are just patterns, short cuts that your brain uses to get done something that it is already doing. You have behaviors, thoughts, words you say that you no longer think about. Those are habits. Your goal is to ask whether those habits are serving you or not.

What you do when no one is looking is less important than what you do when you're not even looking. Your habits, those behaviors that come most naturally, can either help you get where you want to go, or it they can hamper your progress. Turning the negative around, to create positive outcomes is what the LemonDrop sisters, Greer and Whitnie, are here to guide you through and replacing undesired habits with goal-serving habits can be the key to your long-term success.

Get in the habit of building life-changing habits.

Here are some resources to help you develop the habits you want:

1 Habit for a Thriving Home Office, Steve Samblis and Debbie Rosemont

1 Habit for Entrepreneurial Success, Steve Samblis and Forbes Riley

Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill

The Power of Habit, Charles Duhigg

In this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, hosts Greer and Whitnie welcome health coach Cheryl Meyer, the Health Muse, to discuss her health and healing journey.

Cheryl’s story is all too familiar. For a time, she had horrible pain that no one understood. She woke up every morning more tired than when she went to bed. She had brain fog and required 2-3 cups of coffee to function. Every joint and every muscle in her body hurt. She was increasingly sensitive to products, including perfumes, under arm deodorant, fabric softener, even her cosmetics. She couldn’t clean without getting sick. She hated being sick all the time and just wanted to pull the covers over her head. She was girl interrupted. Most of all, she was frustrated because no one understood.

Eventually Cheryl turned from conventional medicine after the approach was to mask the symptoms with drugs and being told there was nothing wrong with her. Not wanting to live a life of pain and pills, Cheryl learned to control her stress, began eliminating toxins from her life, and found a functional doctor. But that’s not all. Years of research helped her cure herself and then she returned to school to shore up her bona fides. She is the author of award winning books including It Feels Good to Feel Good and is the host of a podcast by the same name. Cheryl is on a mission to help America become healthy again and toxin-free.

You can learn more about Cheryl and her mission to clean up America's diets and cupboards at www.cherylmhealthmuse.com and listen to her podcast It Feels Good to Feel Good at https://bit.ly/cherylpodcast.

In Cathleen's own words:

My Story FROM TRAUMA TO TRIUMPH My life was changed forever when I suffered the devastating loss of my 19-year old son, Logan, from suicide. As a single mom, I had fought to build a successful career in business, politics, and government, but the death of my son cracked me wide open. My emotional well-being teetered and my life fell into disarray and despair.

AT A CROSSROADS It is at this point where I faced a choice. I could live the rest of my days cloaked in guilt, pain, shame, misery, and regret, or I could begin to heal and learn how to live again.

I MADE MY CHOICE I chose to become whole once more. Through the pain, I rediscovered a powerful sense of self and a connection to the divine that empowered me to wake up and redesign my life.

In this episode, Life, Lemons & LemonDrops hosts, Greer and Whitnie, talk with Cathleen Elle about her journey and inspiration for writing Shattered Together. Join us for this heart wrenching, yet hope-filled discussion of loss and healing.

We remind you that if you find yourself in a place of grieving, please reach out to family, friends or professionals who can help you through the process. To learn more about Cathleen and how she can assist you, visit cathleenelle.com.

Greer and Whitnie, the LemonDrop Sisters, explore the value of having balance in your life and how it sets the stage for more productivity in all you do. They also explore the concept that balance isn't possible and that some variations on the theme are more appropriate, such as integration or harmony.

Regardless of what you call it, balance, integration or harmony, it is different for every person and living day to day or vision to vision with your priorities can take different forms. Your hosts help you consider the many variables that pull your attention and give purposeful tips that will help you achieve the balance, integration or harmony you seek.

In this episode, Whitnie references an article she penned earlier this year, "So ... Now Integration" that outline some of her thoughts about balance, integration or harmony. You can access that article here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/so-now-integration-whitnie-wiley.

The LemonDrop Sisters, Greer and Whitnie, welcome two (and a half) guests to this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops to discuss the fine line between being an adult woman who takes care of business and being a GROWN ASS WOMAN, who lives life on her own terms after a lifetime developing the wisdom needed to claim the title. Kathleen Hargan, Bobbie Lyons and Billie McVay, share insights into what it takes to achieve the ultimate level of self-actualization.

The GAW share:

  • their definitions of GAW
  • the place for drama and judgment
  • what ultimately moves you from a woman taking care of business to a GAW

Do you think you have what it takes? Listen to the conversation and you decide.

From setting the agenda for optimistic New Year's resolutions, to the bittersweet memories that help us reassess our lives, we can craft a path forward when loss and change occur.  Whether we’re collectively mourning the death of a celebrity, grieving the passing of a loved one, or celebrating a milestone event, the experience can provide the opportunity to consider and evaluate the lives we live and make the changes needed to grow. As you listen to this episode of Life, Lemons & LemonDrops, think about some of the lessons you've discovered as a result of the many milestones (happy and sad) you've experienced and what lessons you learned; certainly you've learned by now that there can be an up-side if you just look for it.

With a combined 80 plus years of work experience, Whitnie and Greer have learned a few lessons. To help you avoid learning many of those same lessons the hard way, the sisters share the highlights with focus on the lemons (bad bosses, colleagues stealing your ideas, low pay, no recognition) that they then turned into lemon drops.

  • Bad bosses to self-employment
  • Salty colleagues to productive partnerships
  • Create your own opportunities (projects and employment)

With COVID-19 and the continuing uncertainty about what's next, we continue to have a job market in flux, or as Greer calls it a "jobless" market in freefall. While this is a national, and to some extent global crisis, what we can do on an individual basis might not be as daunting as it seems. Getting clarity on our goals and focusing on those with laser-like precision can make all the difference.

If you've lost your job there are opportunities to be had. The question remains how will you view and approach those opportunities? Do you even see the opportunities that lie before you? These questions apply even in the best of times, and how we move forward when things go awry is foundational to being resilient and resourceful…and successful.

In this episode, Greer and Whitnie discuss key points in the decision-making process, particularly as they relate to job pivots and transitions.
